VERA & DISTRICT LIONS is forging ahead with its fundraising efforts in the ‘new normal.’

“We are now operating in very different times, as meetings and fundraising events have had to be drastically reduced due to the social distancing requirements.

“However looking to the future is very important for the club,” explained Vera & District Lions joint press officer, Ceri Norman.

“Fundraising is vital to enable the Lions to play their part now and in the future,” Ceri stressed.

At the end of July Vera & District Lions opened the club’s first ALMERIA is offering a packed autumn programme of guided tours and active tourism experiences.

With a view to luring tourists to the provincial capital for weekends and mini-breaks, the ‘Tu otoño’ schedule features 46 guided visits and active tourism ideas with 45 local companies.

Despite only opening initially on Friday and Saturdays between 10am and 2pm the shop has “more than exceeded expectations” in its first two months of operation, Ceri reported.

“Sales have been good, and the club is very grateful for all the regular donations from the public that have enabled this to be maintained.

“Although at present the shop cannot accept donations of larger items of furniture, smaller items that can be dropped off or collected by car continue to be very popular.”

FORGING AHEAD

WORTHY CAUSE: All the money raised by Vera & District Lions is earmarked to help people in need in the local community.

AUTUMN TOURISM The Alcazaba fortification is one of the main tour attractions. There are also themed turns around the city, like ‘Legends of Alme-

ria,’ ‘Muslim Almeria’ and ‘Cinema Almeria.’

The council stressed all tours are carried out “under the umbrella” of the Safe

Tourism certificate, an accreditation which all Almeria’s municipal public tourist spaces boast.

The active tourism programme features a range of free time possibilities, going from water sports to an escape room.

Another important fundraising tool for the Lions is public donations.

The club is always actively looking for more venues happy to take one of its bright yellow cash collection boxes. Look out for them in your local shops, bars or restaurants.

The new 30,000sqm ‘Parque de Cristal’ offers locals up-to-date sports and recreation facilities, like shaded seating areas, bio-fitness zones, children’s play areas and boules courts, but also reminders of the past thanks to the Roman remains at the site.

The park is located right next to one of the most interesting archaeological and geological attractions in the region: the lapis specularis mines.

The mineral, the first in history to be used to make see-through windows, adds a beautiful touch to the park flooring, and gives the area a special glow in moonlight.

Charity collaboration HUERCAL-OVERA Council is collaborating with the Caritas charity on social actions in the locality and providing direct funding.

Well-being councillor Jose Diego Lopez explained that as well as material collaboration and the cession of the municipal premises for its headquarters, the local authority is also contributing financial assistance to help cover the costs of transporting consignments of foodstuffs from the Food Bank to the municipality. Mayor Domingo Fernandez highlighted “the important work which Caritas carries out in the municipality, helping to cover the needs of the most vulnerable collective in our society.”

Book boost ADRA Council has bought hundreds of new books to expand the municipal library catalogues and provide a boost to the local economy at the same time.

The local authority’s councillor responsible for the municipal library, Antonio Sanchez, revealed that a €5,000 contribution from the Junta de Andalucia’s regional Culture minister had allowed for the purchase of nearly 400 books from shops in the municipality.

He said the idea was to help the local cultural sector recover from the impact of the pandemic on economic activity.

The new books are being shared between the main municipal library and the Puente del Rio and La Curva branches.

Plantation bust

A 23-YEAR-OLD is under arrest after Guardia Civil discovered a marihuana plantation with more than 400 plants just metres from a primary school and a sports ground in Roquetas de Mar. A raid on the property also revealed an illegal hook-up to the electricity network.

Supporting students HUERCAL-OVERA Council has opened a new round of financial assistance for university students who have an Erasmus grant for the period September 1 to July 31, 2021.

Mayor Domingo Fernandez said the initiative reflects their policy of backing training for young people.

THE Little Owls Voluntary Support Group of Arboleas has sadly ceased to operate and has divided its remaining funds amongst local charities.

“The group has been going now for some 10 years and has hopefully assisted and supported many people within our community,” said Little Owls President and founder member, Cathie Ringrose.

“I could not close without a special thanks to all my ‘Little Owls’ past and present for their total commitment and support to me over the last decade.”

A STUDY will be the first step towards making municipal buildings universally accessible in Huercal-Overa, in what the council says is an ambitious project.

The local authority is carrying out the study in conjunction with the ONCE National Organisation for the Spanish Blind.

Urban Planning councillor Jose Lopez, Social Well-being department technicians, the municipal ONCE director Maria Jose Gomez, and one of the organisation’s rehabilitation experts met this week to discuss the coordination of the study on building accessibility for the visually disabled and the timetable for actions in the coming weeks.

“Vera has been paralysed for many years with its strategy of growth on not having sufficient water resources for the development of all economic sectors,” he commented.

According to Garcia attempts to launch new investment projects had been hampered by the ‘obstacle’ of a socalled ‘hydrological deficit.’ The general aims of the now approved plan include promoting lower water consumption, applying technology to increase saving and efficiency, and raising public awareness about the rational use of water. Also promoting and regulating the use of alternative water resources for purposes which do not need potable water and developing measures which save on water used for irrigating parks and private and public gardens.

Among the main projects which feature in the plan are the construction of a new drinking water treatment plant and a new seawater desalination plant.

ALMERIA Council has given the green light to road upgrades in Albanchez, Lubrin and Pechina.

The nearly €300,000 in the three projects comes under the provincial government’s ‘Programa Acelera’ designed to speed up and promote the modernisation of public infrastructure and services in the103 municipalities at the same time as boosting the construction sector.

PEDESTRIAN crossing pictograms in Huercal-Overa to help people on the autism spectrum are a pioneer initiative in the province.

The council is painting the pictograms on cross-

ings which provide access to schools, sports centres and municipal facilities to promote the selfsufficiency and highway safety of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The initiative stems from an agreement between the local authority, the TEAVIAL non-profit association for autism and road safety, and TEAVIAL collaborator, the provincial ASTEA autism association.

THE ICTE Spanish Tourism Quality Institute has awarded Cuevas del Almanzora municipal tourist office its ‘Safe Tourism Certified’ stamp for the implementation of a Covid-19 health risk prevention system.

The tourism office has also earned Secretary of State for Tourism recognition as an establishment prepared for Covid19 and Safe Tourism through the SICTED project.

Computers for ‘vulnerable’ students SPANISH utility company, Endesa, has begun delivering 5,000 computers and internet connection cards to ‘vulnerable’ students across 60 towns and districts.

The initiative aims to ‘protect against the digital divide’ caused by the covid pandemic.

In addition, both students and teachers will receive training in digital skills.

The distribution of computers and internet connections will begin in Ceuta and extend to Melilla, Andalucia, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Castilla y Leon, Aragon, Galicia and Extremadura in the coming weeks.

In total, 5,000 students from around 500 public schools will benefit, while approximately 800 teachers will receive training.

This is the second phase of Endesa’s Public Responsibility Plan.

offer help MORE than 2,000 retired doctors have offered to return to work to help out in the face of the health crisis in Spain.

The country is experiencing a shortage of health personnel and last week it was revealed the national health service needs some 88,000 doctors, nurses and orderlies to cope with the coronavirus pandemic.

And, according to Antena 3, the situation has been made all the more critical as many health

professionals are forced to look for work abroad ‘in search of decent contracts.’

In light of the shortage several autonomous communities across Spain are experiencing, 2,000 doctors have offered their ‘valuable experience.’

Dr Carlos Gálvez, spokesman for Retired Doctors of Sevilla, said “we, retired doctors, have done everything, we have experience that I think is valuable.”

Hotelier Busted A HOTEL manager hosted a 200-person strong funeral party and has been fined a staggering £10,000 as a result of breachi n g t h e U K ’s c o r o n a v i r u s l o c k d o w n re strictions.

Furthermore, his hotel, Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel in Solihull, West Midlands, has been restricted from hosting any further public gatherings or holiday events until January 2021.

Madrid Confusion THE Ministry of Health restrictions that were brought into effect in Madrid on Friday, October 2, have caused confusion for the city’s citizens.

More than 4.5 million people are affected by the new restrictions however many people have expressed concern and confusion over the new rules.

Manhunt

A BRITISH man from Southport, Merseyside, has been stabbed to death in Cuidad Quesada near Alicante on the Costa Brava.

The man, who has not been named, was discovered fatally wounded early on Thursday morning with multiple stab wounds to the neck. It is understood that a fight broke out at a house party and the incident occured shortly after. A police manhunt is now being undertaken and it is understood that the attacker is also British. After he was stabbed, the victim stumbled out of the house onto the street and subsequently collapsed and died.

It appears that many people are confusing the new restrictions with those implemented nationwide back in March and furthermore with previous restrictions that were instigated in specific areas of the city in September.

The Ministry has confirmed it is working hard to clarify the confusion for the public.

Geneva Pays EXPENSIVE: The Swiss city.

GENEVA is on track to introduce the world’s highest minimum wage after two-thirds of the population backed the plan at a recent referendum.

The new minimum wage will see workers earn a staggering £41,430 per year, which works out at a monthly salary of £3,500. Geneva has a voting age population of around 500,000 people and with two-thirds of them voting in favour of the rise, the Swiss city will now commence the new minimum wage. Geneva is the world’s second most expensive city to reside in however public finances took a hit due to a reduction in tourist revenue due to the pandemic.

8 - 14 October 2020 TOUR operator TUI has restarted flights from Germany to the Canary Islands with plans for selective Covid-19 testing of travellers.

The German travel company has initially scheduled seven weekly flights to Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, according to the Canary Island government.

Speaking on Thursday October 1 following a videoconference meeting with TUI group CEO Sebastian Ebel, regional President Angel Victor Torres described the decision to set up safe travel corridors to the Canaries at this time as “very good news.”

Tourism minister Yaiza Castilla explained that the Canary administration has reached an agreement with TUI on voluntary selective Covid-19 testing for tourists taking winter holidays with the firm in accordance with the levels of infection in their destinations of origin.

Trapped inside A BOY, three, spent hours locked in a school bus without anyone noticing he was missing.

The child reportedly fell asleep and didn’t get off at a bus stop in Oleiros, in A Coruña.

Neither the bus escort nor the driver noticed that the young boy was still on board.

It was only when the school bus was parked up at a nearby town hall four hours later that the child was discovered by another driver, who took the boy to Lui Seoane Primary School where he is a pupil. The Territorial Chief of Education is investigating what happened, while the school claims the child ‘did not enter school grounds so it was considered that the family did not send him.’

According to Spanish press reports, residents have expressed their ‘indignation and disbelief’ about the incident, with one quoted as saying “we all have failures, but here there are no excuses, he is a child.”

BRAVE: Young woman survives nightmare to tell her story.

THE incredible story of a young woman from Elche, who was rescued from a perverted Peruvian sect leader, has been made into a stunning new book.

The book titled ‘Hágase tu voluntad’ (Thy will be done) is the story of a young woman who was lured by the leader of a ‘religious sect’ to Peru, abandoning her family and entering into a life of horror in the process.

The book is written by Vanesa Lozano who tells

the extraordinary story of Patricia Aguilar which aims to raise awareness to young people about the dangers of the internet.

Patricia Aguilar was only 16 when she fell for the teachings of ‘guru’ Félix Steven Manrique, who called himself ‘The Prince.’

Manrique managed to convince Aguilar and other women that they needed to take care of him.

The book tells the story of how Aguilar met Manrique online and how he per-

suaded her to leave home when she was 18 and abandon her family.

Patricia was forced to live with the 35-year-old man and two other women.

The young Elche woman was with the man, the women and five other children for a year and a half before being rescued.

She intends for her story, via Lozano’s book, to give visibility to issues such as ‘religious sects’ on the internet that lure people in via chatrooms and social media.

THE Black Widow of Alicante, Conchi Martin, has been found guilty by a jury of her peers for the murder of her former husband.

Martin stabbed her husband, José Luis S G, a 69year-old retiree, to death in August 21, 2018.

The jury, composed of four men and five women, arrived at the verdict in the early hours of Saturday

Rule Breakers

CONCHI MARTIN: Found guilty.

Five Injured FIVE National Police officers have been injured in Estepona on the Costa del Sol while arresting two Brits who were on the run for a shooting at the Benavista Shopping Centre, in the El Saladillo urbanisation.

The officers were in pursuit of the pair in the El Paraíso area of Estepona.

According to police the two British men, aged 27 and 30, were arrested for their participation in a fight which saw shots fired. No one was injured during the shooting.

After the incident the pair fled the scene, however,

were apprehended after being caught on a vehicle detection camera system set up to find them.

Upon being discovered, police tried to stop the culprits by setting up a road blockade however, instead of stopping, the suspects reversed at speed, the wrong way down the road and collided with a stationary police car attempting to block their escape.

This collision resulted in the five officers being injured. The pair have been arrested and a full investigation is ongoing.

TWO Manchester based women have been fined £1,000 for their refusal to self-isolate for the required time after returning from a weekend break to Spain.

It has been confirmed by police that one of the women lied to her employer and immediately returned to work after the pair’s short jaunt to Spain.

The, as yet, unnamed women have been used to make an example of by local police due to their reckless disregard for self-isolation rules.

Officer PS Jackson of GMP Tameside North and East stated on social media, “Another two £1,000 fines issued for breaching quarantine regulations after returning from Spain.

“Two females from the Ashton area decided that the rules did not apply to them and after a long weekend away, they refused to quarantine.”

Mane the Saint Sadio Mane.

A BRAND-NEW documentary about the life of Sadio Mane tells many tales of the Liverpool striker’s life.

However, one particular story stands out among all the rest.

Mane has also generously gifted £40,000 to the Senegal government to help fight coronavirus.

PROTESTS: By doctors, nurses and specialists.

FIFTY-FIVE scientific groups have come together to demand that the management of the pandemic in Spain be detached from political confrontation.

Doctors, nurses, and specialists from all over Spain are fed up and angry with what they feel are political parties using the crisis as a weapon against each other in order to gain public votes. The recent spats between the Federal government - Pedro Sanchez and the regional president of the government of

Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, being cited as an example.

A total of 170,000 Spanish Health Professionals have joined together in a manifesto to demand that decisions against coronavirus be based on ‘the greatest possible scientific evidence detached from the ongoing political confrontation.’

This is directly aimed at the statements the governments of Pedro Sánchez and Isabel Díaz Ayuso have issued in recent days due to the health crisis in the Community of Madrid.

Foul mouthed A ZOO had to remove ‘Swearing Parrots’ after complaints from the public!

Lincolnshire Wildlife Park in the UK was forced to move the ‘rude’ birds to an ‘offshore’ enclosure and out of earshot of patrons.

A group of African Grey parrots at the zoo were removed after repeating obscene language at visitors. Just like the cheap battery-powered toys that kids have for presents, the ‘feathered foul-mouthed flock of Parakeets’ were so rude that they even had the keepers red-faced!

Some patrons thought it was hilarious, but many others didn’t, especially some parents who couldn’t believe their ears after holding their kids to ‘look at the pretty birds,’ only to receive a barrage of fourletter words from the badly-behaved birds!

BAD PARROTS: Swearing at the public.

Human Guinea Pigs RESEARCHERS are to start infecting trial subjects with Covid-19 to test a vaccine and there are over 2,000 volunteers that have signed up for the experiment.

Many British people are volunteering to become part of the abolishment of the disease through a vaccine. The volunteers will be vaccinated with the potential preventative and will be later introduced to the Covid-19 disease to see if the vaccine is successful.

The human trials will be scheduled to start in January 2021 and the volunteers will be experimented on in Whitechapel, east London in a very secure address.

Back on his feet A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy who was thrown from a viewing platform on the 10th f l o o r o f L o n d o n ’s Tate Modern museum last year can now ‘stand without support’ his family have revealed.

The child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered severe injuries after he was pushed by Jonty Bravery, then 17, on August 4, 2019.

Bravery was sentenced to life in prison in June, and will serve at least 15 years.

In a statement posted on a GoFundMe page, set up to help cover the costs of medical expenses, the brave young boy’s family said he has been admitted to a new hospital-rehabilitation centre more suitable to his requirements.

Officially Broke A BILLIONAIRE who wanted to give away his entire fortune before he died is officially broke. Charles ‘Chuck’ Fenney, 89, is the co-founder of the airport retailer Duty Free Shoppers, having set up the franchise with Robert Miller 60 years ago.

But having achieved success and an unimaginable bank balance, the philanthropist pioneered the idea of Giving While Living and has now spent most of his fortune on charities.

He set himself the goal of giving away all of his money before he died so that he could control where it went and see the results for himself. Through his private foundation the Atlantic Philanthropies, the Irish-American, gave $570 million (£485m) of the total fortune away.

However, the list doesn’t stop there.

Employees in Spain typically receive approximately 41 days of annual leave per years whereas in the UK you only receive a measly 28. With those extra days off you are able to fully experience the rich and vibrant culture of Spain that is evident around every corner you turn.

Furthermore, the UK regularly ranks as one of the worst places to live in Europe.

Multiple studies over the last decade have placed the UK at the bottom of the list and the Expat Insider Report, 2019, revealed the same results.

With Spain on your doorstep and the option to integrate yourself into this vibrant culture still readily available until December 31, 2020, it is a wonder that, despite the current global situation, that Brits aren’t flocking here.

Throughout the pandemic, Brits in Spain have hailed the response of the Spanish government, police and army for their handling of the global pandemic. Although the draconian measures were tough on everyone, the clarity and immediate action by the authorities meant that the population felt safe and knew what was expected of them.

Since the lockdown was lifted, Brits who have travelled despite quarantine restrictions in the UK have applauded the Spanish response with numerous tourists taking to social media to express how much safer they feel in Spain during this crisis than they do in the UK. Furthermore, if you get your skates on and move prior to the end of this year (December 31) you will still be fully covered under the UK’s Withdrawal Agreement with the EU, which means you can ensure you retain permanent residency in Spain.

So, the question really is less about why you should move to Spain but instead why aren’t you moving to Spain?

With a glorious friendly culture in a warm and comfortable climate, where you can enjoy sandy beaches, a cocktail in hand or walk your dog while enjoying the range of nature on your doorstep … why are you not already here?

Spain… it’s not Britain… and we are glad about it!

It has therefore announced that it will be closing at least 250 shops during 2021 as it expects online shopping to continue to grow and although sales are beginning to recover, they are still 5 per cent down when comparing last month and September 2019.

Record employment results SEPTEMBER was a record month in Spain for the number of new jobs created which when coupled with a further fall in unemployment is per­ haps surprising although there are still large numbers of people on fur­ lough or working shorter hours.

Overall, however it has to be posi­ tive news that the State Public Em­ ployment Service reported the num­ ber of unemployed fell by slightly more than 26,000 (0.7 per cent) and the number of new jobs created broke 84,000.

In ‘normal years,’ September is considered a bad month for Spanish

workers as the main tourism season comes to an end and many people on short term contracts who are as­ sociated with the hospitality indus­ try find themselves unemployed.

That was then and this is now! The lockdown and pandemic have com­ pletely changed the rules and many of those in hospitality found that their season ended much earlier and they entered the public system in previous months.

Now to record 84,000 new jobs suggests that other areas of the economy are beginning to recover and either creating new work or

bringing employees back to their old jobs from which they had been placed on furlough.

According to Expansion this drop in the number of unemployed in September has never been so large since records began in 1996 and since 2008, unemployment in Sep­ tember has gone up rather than down.

This is part of an ongoing drop in unemployment over the past three months, but it must be remembered that there are still more than 3,750,00 on the unemployed list, many of them young people.

Is TIE obligatory?

After reading the article about TIE I am con­ fused. I am British, and I am tax resident here in Spain. The article says that, ‘We suppose that you would apply for the new TIE.’ Is it manda­ tory that we all have to change our existing resi­ dency card for something new, and if we do not, what could happen?

A L (by email) If you in­ tend to YOU AND THE LAW continue to reside IN SPAIN in Spain, you need to exchange your present ‘Certificate of Residence of a European Union Citizen’ for a TIE, a Tarjeta de Identificación de Extranjero. This is because you are no longer a citizen of the European Union. This TIE is in fact a European Union card. It is based on Article 50 TEU in accordance with Article 18.4 of the UK withdrawal agreement. You should make this exchange before December 31. You will need Form EX23, which you can download from the internet and Form 790 code 12 on which you pay the small fee and one identification card size photo. If you do not get the TIE, at some point next year you will be considered a non­resident of Spain.

JUST a year since regulators refused to approve a merg­ er between Asda and Sains­ bury’s, American owners Walmart have announced that they have sold the su­ permarket chain for £6.8 billion (€7.5 billion) to a British consortium.

On the face of things, the purchase of Asda by Wal­ mart 21 years ago wasn’t a great investment as they are making just £100 mil­ lion (€110 million) profit from the sale but they are keeping some shares and will have a single seat on the board.

Triumphant purchasers are petrol billionaires Mohsin and Zuber Issa who own the Lancashire based EG Group working with

London private equity firm TDR Capital who between them look to see the super­ market return to growth and have promised to keep prices low whilst investing more than £1 billion (€1.1 billion) over the next three years.

Initially at least, there are unlikely to be many major changes as headquarters will remain in Leeds and current CEO Roger Burnley has received a vote of confi­ dence and will be main­ tained in his role.

According to YouGov pollsters, Asda is now the seventh most popular su­ permarket in the United Kingdom and has a long way to go to beat leaders Aldi, M&S Food and Lidl.

Ties with Iran THE Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described Tehran­ Madrid relations as developing and expressed hope that both sides boost economic relations despite US sanctions as he wel­ comed new Spanish Ambas­ sador to Tehran Luis Felipe Fer­ nández de la Peña.

The new Spanish Ambas­ sador noted that Iran and Spain are striving to strengthen bilat­ eral relations especially eco­ nomic ties in line with the large capacities of the two countries.

Coinciding with the presen­ tation of the Ambassador’s cre­ dentials it was announced that the first flight in 17 years from Tehran to Madrid took off with Iran Air to run a weekly direct flight as the two nations dis­ cuss methods of cooperation in both trade and possibly tourism.

Odds on takeover BRITISH betting firm, William Hill, fronted on TV by such stars as Ray Winstone is likely to be taken over by Caesars Entertainment, the US compa­ ny which owns Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for £2.9 billion (€3.2 billion) subject to share­ holder agreement.

What attracts the American company is that William Hill USA (in which Caesars holds a 20 per cent stake) has 170 bet­ ting shops scattered across the USA. The board of William Hill, which is unlikely to open more 100 betting shops in the UK, sees this as an opportunity to gain value for shareholders in what may be a stagnant mar­ ket.

Pricing across Europe varies dra­ matically depending upon the level of sales tax and VAT imposed on fu­ els as well as garages’ views on the ability to pay higher prices in differ­ ent geographical locations.

Public debt is rising

FINANCE MINISTER MONTERO: Called for a “fiscally responsible” approach.

ACCORDING to figures released by the Bank of Spain, the public debt soared to €1.29 trillion in the second quarter of 2020 which is its highest level for 20 years, due to its efforts to cope with the results of the pandemic.

Although this is a huge amount, it compares favourably with the United Kingdom debt which reached £2 trillion (€2.2 trillion) at the end of June and like Spain still continues to increase on a monthly basis.

Normal rules no longer apply and whilst the European Union set targets for all member states requiring that public debt should be no higher than 60 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP),

this is simply unrealistic at the present time.

The reality is that whilst it stood at 99 per cent in the first quarter, it rose to 110 per cent as Spain was in lockdown for much of the second quarter and was trying to assist those in financial need whilst reeling from the loss of important tourist and export business.

Taking a pragmatic approach, the government has decided (like Britain and some other countries) to suspend the budget and try to cope with matters as they occur whilst maintaining what Finance Minister, María Jesús Montero called a “fiscally responsible” ap­ proach when announcing this at a press conference.

LEAPY LEE SAYS IT OTHERS THINK IT JUST recently a 16-year-old young hoodlum became invol ved i n a car ch ase w i th a number of police vehicles.

Attempting to swerve around a police road block his car struck a young officer who was dragged along before being thrown off and sustaining multiple injuries, including a fractured leg. The car was finally brought to a halt and the driver arrested. The charges were, stealing a car, failing to stop; possession of cannabis; failing to provide a blood sample; causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without a licence or insurance.

The officer was off work for five weeks and also suffered a psychological impact that required mental treatment and counselling.

At his trial the judge’s ruling on this young toe rag was a piddling, noncustodial 12 month rehabilitation order, and a fine of £100! You really couldn’t make it up. What this basically means is that this waste of space was back with his mates that evening, his ‘street cred’ on a high, a

New generation of youngsters joint in his mouth and his eye on whatever other criminal endeavours he could turn his hand to.

The message taken back to his fellow young cronies? As long as you’re under 18, you can get away with just about anything. Some of these judges are not fit to serve up slop in a prison kitchen, leave alone serve up justice on the bench. The way to prevent young thugs like this re-offending is to bang ‘em up in a serious boot camp. Control their every waking and sleeping moment with the strictest regulations and make them never want to be put back inside again.

But it won’t happen will it? The ‘wokes’ and liberal lefties of our society have somehow managed to take control of our rules and regulations and appear to have completely dispensed with common sense.

Under the guise of ‘sex education’ they have allowed live sexual acts to take place in our classrooms. Tried to normalise grown men in dresses sharing locker rooms with young girls and made parents afraid to chastise or discipline their own children for

fear they will be reported for some form of child abuse. Unless it agrees with their own warped doctrine, they have also managed to virtually destroy freedom of speech and influence our children into regarding any decision by the authorities as an infringement of their ‘uman rights.

The result of all this dangerous nonsense, is new generations of youngsters with, no regard whatsoever for law and order, an utterly self-centered attitude of entitlement, and the belief that despite a history of utter failure, socialism is the answer to everything.

To the left of course it all makes perfect sense; the more dependent the people are on the state the more they can be controlled. Their ultimate ambition is communism and the brainwashed young their prime targets. By the time our youngsters realise they have been duped it will all be too late. The only thing Orwell got wrong was the date!

What truly stands out for me MIKE SENKER IN MY OPINION Views of a Grumpy Old Man IT’S no secret that I detest Donald Trump but not because he’s a Republican. It’s the actual person I detest because he is a liar, a racist and a misogynist.

I watched him and Biden ‘debate’ recently and it seemed to me Trump had decided as he was unable to discuss any point that the moderator asked, he would disrupt proceedings by heckling, interrupting, lying and changing the subject. It’s hard to know where to start.

How is it that from 600 millionish people in the USA the best they have is two old farts who couldn’t hire a car from Hertz as they are too old, but can run the country? I don’t actually think Biden would make a good POTUS either but at least he appears the more honest one.

Whenever I write about Trump it’s amazing that I get emails telling me how great he is and saying yeah we know all the bad things he is, but look at all the good he’s doing. I do look and, to be honest, I can’t agree with you. If you add up all the good against the bad,

the bad wins every time. Let’s just take the thing that truly stood out for me.

This is the exact question and answer: ‘Are you willing, tonight, to condemn white supremacists and militia groups and to say they need to stand down?’

The President shrugged his shoulder.

‘Sure, I’m willing to do that. But I would say almost everything I see is from the left wing, not the right wing.’ Trump continued to say words, but say nothing. ‘I’m willing to do anything. I want to see peace.’ Moderator Wallace pressed the question: ‘Well then, do it, sir.’ Former Vice President Joe Biden jumped in: ‘Say it. Do it. Say it’. For what seemed like the first time in the debate Trump paused.

‘What do you want to call them?’

Trump gestured at Wallace. ‘Give me a name, give me a name.’ ‘White supremacists,’ Wallace answered. ‘The Proud Boys’, Biden added, referring to the far-right group of self-described ‘Western chauvinists’ who often engage in armed violence at protests. ‘Proud Boys, stand back, and stand by,’ Trump said. The same night on the Proud Boys website was their new motto. Google Proud Boys to see what they stand for. For not condemning them or white supremacists alone Trump should not be POTUS. One manufacturer who succeeded is Toyota, with their luxury brand Lexus.

Launched in the UK back in 1990 with the LS400 - early second hand models with large mileages still fetch surprisingly good money - it was a car that was never going to set your driving senses alight but used the best materials and engineering and was supremely refined.

Although style is very subjective Lexus models have become less conventional in their looks but continue to major on quality and reliability. One the newest Lexus to the UK is the ES300 and it continues that theme with a drivetrain that’s smooth, refined and economical, but not one to thrash across a twisting cross country road.

Priced from €38,650 (£35,200) the ES sits just below the largest Lexus offering, the LS, and has just one engine option of a 2.5-litre four-cylin-

At €50,157 (£45,680) the ES isn’t cheap but it offers a size and level of equipment that puts others to shame.
