GENERALITAT president Ximo Puig declared that there are no plans for blanket closures throughout the Valencian region. Neither the Costa Blanca nor anywhere else would return to lockdown although Puig admitted the possibility of closing “premises or certain areas.” The regional president was talking last Sunday in Morella (Valencia) at a homage to the 23 people living there who died from Covid-19. “This isn’t a question of black or white,” Puig said. Outbreaks have oc-
curred in safe places where people were letting their guard down at family gatherings and celebrations or nightlife venues. neither he nor the region’s Health chief Ana Barcelo, saw grounds for closing them down. In an interview given to the Informacion and Levante newspapers at the weekend, Ana Barcelo said that she doubted the economy could withstand another lockdown. She also rejected closing nightlife venues and
pointed out that young people would only look for alternative. “The answer isn’t restriction, but awareness,” she declared. Barcelo was also reluctant to predict a Covid-19 “second wave” but confirmed that the regional government was more than ready to cope with one if necessary.
