KINGS’ MAGIC SPECIAL VISIT: The Three Kings surprised seriously ill children at Son Espases Hospital.

JOYOUS NEW DECADE PARADE: The Three Kings parade delighted residents and tourists in the capital. T H E a r r i v a l o f T h re e Kings Day in Mallorca brought a wave of excitement across the island, where thousands of people descended to watch the iconic parade tour in the capital on Sunday, January 5. Illuminated under the magical sky, Balthazar, Gaspar, and Melchior stunned the crowd at Moll Vell, as the Kings made their way off Rafael Verdera, the oldest active sailboat in the entire Spanish fleet. The traditional procession then commenced its journey towards the centre of Palma, bringing a kaleidoscope of colour to the streets. Made up of 41 groups and 13 floats, the cavalcade delighted children and the young at heart with an assortment of sweet treats. The leading float was named l’Estel, which was masterfully revamped for this year’s edition at the hands of Daniel Puig, the

Artistic Director of the parade. The float was accompanied by a constellation troupe, made up of talented performers from the leading Angela Bruno Dance Factory. Music also played an important role in the highly important festive event, where live music filled the capital’s streets, thanks to performances from the Municipal Band of Music, Gegants, Capgrossos and Xeremiers of Palma City Council. Passing through Antoni Maura and onto the Passeig del Born to Placa Joan Carles I, La Rambla, Passeig Mallorca and Jaume III, the procession then reached its final destination of Casal Solleric. Here, the Three Kings descended up onto its historical

balcony where they were met with roars of applause from the crowd below. Palma City Council has praised the efforts of all those involved, renouncing the event as a great success. They also thanked all the residents and tourists who flocked to the parade, and promised a bigger and even more exciting procession for next year.

THE new decade has been marked with a host of wonderful initiatives and celebrations, aimed at bringing joy to children across Mallorca. One of the most touching moments took place on Three Kings Day (January 6) where the Magis of Bethlehem paid a special visit to Son Espases hospital. Meeting several seriously injured children who have sadly spent the entire festive season receiving round-the-clock medical care, Balthazar, Melchior and Gaspar delivered a treasure trove of presents to the young patients. The surprise arrival brought waves of smiles to every child and their parents, largely because the holidays can be one of the most difficult

times of the year. The lovely gesture was made possible by Francina Armengol, the President of the Balearic Islands and Patricia Gómez, the Regional Minister of Health, who both were in attendance. Meanwhile, an assortment of gifts were handed out to 51 children under the age of seven years old at Grupo Serra, the most renowned publishing house in Mallorca. President Carme Serra expressed his wish to deliver a memorable moment for the youngsters. The day before, thousands of children took part in the Kings Race at Parc de ses Estacions, a long-standing and fun-filled event organised by the Institute of Sport.
