TOURISM is flourishing on the Costa de A l m e r i a , 2 0 1 9 p ro v ing to be another excellent year for the sector, according to p r o v i n c i a l To u r i s m delegate Fernando Gimenez. “Exceeding one million tourists and the five million overnight stays was n o t a o n e - o ff s u c c e s s , a s there have now been three consecutive years of registering the best results,” the delegate stressed at a press conference focusing o n t h e s e c t o r ’s y e a r a n d the provincial tourist board’s promotional activities over the last 12 months. Gimenez maintained national tourism has grown by 42 per cent and international tourism by 290 per cent since the current provincial government team came into office. He referred specifically to points like an increase in international flight connections in recent years, having among the longest average visitor stays in the country and to positive tourist feedback on the Costa Almeria destination. The delegate talked about the launch of a direct flight between Milan and Almeria, saying it had encouraged the arrival of more than 20,000 Italian tourists. He referred also to efforts to make greater inroads into

the French visitor market. “We are going to continue working so that tourists come to our province, and do so throughout the year and throughout Almerian t e r r i t o r y, ” Gimenez promised. “Our position is to develop a varied and diverse tourism model, but also one of quality and which is sustainable, based on resources which do not exist in all the European continent.”
