What a con! A HOLIDAY home scammer is under arrest in Almeria. Police said the woman is suspected of conning some 50 people out of at least €10,000 in all through online adverts for fictitious holiday lets over the last year. She passed herself off as an estate agent, offering rentals in Retamar-El Toyo, the Zapillo neighbourhood of Almeria City and Roquetas de Mar. After speaking to her on the phone, victims paid the alleged con artist a reservation for the full amount. But the tourists were in for a holiday spoiling shock. When they pitched up at the apartments they discovered they were already occupied or didn’t actually exist. To remain under the radar the fraudster moved from place to place around the country. This brings the number of sites in Almeria categorised as Natural Monuments and meriting special conservation
due to their singularity, beauty, rarity, or scientific, scenic or cultural importance to 10. The Isla de Terreros and Isla Negra in San Juan de los Terreros, the Albar juniper in Chirivel, the Posidonia reef in Roquetas de Mar, the Isla de San Andres in Carboneras, the Rock of Lobera i n L u c a r, a n d t h e A m b r o s i o C a v e i n Velez-Blanco were already included in the Andalucia Natural Monument network.
