PM’s Brexit pledge Pedro Sanchez vows to protect expats’ rights By Joe Gerrard SPAIN’S prime minister has told lawmakers the government will approve measures to cover a no-deal Brexit scenario including protecting the rights of British expatriates. Pedro Sanchez said the plans also included measures to allow for co-operation between Madrid and London on administration and legal matters, as well as crime. “The goal of the plan is to

preserve the rights of Spanish and British citizens, as well as preserving a normal trade flow and safeguarding Spanish economic interests,” Sanchez said. “My main goal is to guarantee that Britain’s decision to leave the EU would have the smallest possible impact on people and businesses,” the prime minister added. Sanchez added everything that Madrid and London had agreed in regards to Gibraltar post-Brexit would also stand,

Police prevent pensioner fall FIVE policemen in Torrox have reportedly saved the life of a 79-year-old man who tried to jump from a terrace. Officers from the Local Police said they received a call from family members, who said the man, who reportedly suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, was trying to throw himself from a balcony in the family home. The family are said to have first contacted an off-duty Velez-Malaga police officer who lives nearby, before Torrox officers intervened. Police arrived and helped the man inside before leaving him with his family. According to Spanish media, minutes later, the man’s wife - who is also ill - called again saying her husband was now trying to jump from a height of around eight metres. The man was later transferred to Axarquia Regional Hospital and the Torrox Local Police headquarters praised ‘the professionalism of the officers from Torrox and Velez-Malaga.’
