Second murder rocks coast
A SECOND killing has taken place in Axarquia in one week. Police have arrested a 46year-old man on suspicion of murder and breaching a restraining order after a 44year-old woman was found s tabbe d t o d e a t h i n h e r home in El Morche. The mother of two, named only as Manoli C S, is repo r t e d t o h a v e b ee n s tabbe d u p t o 1 2 t i m e s in the apartment she had lived in for a short time in the Mirador building on Calle Poniente. A judge has since jailed a man named as Juan Antonio ML - reportedly the victim’s boyfriend - without bail. Police explained the Torre del Mar local had previously breached a restraining or-
d er p re v en tin g h im from contacting Manoli and had been arrested on three occasions on July 7 and August 12 and 22. Residents in El Morche to ld o n e p u b lic a tio n t he couple had ‘very frequent’ public arguments but that Manoli told friends she could not live without her partner. Police say the victim was known to have been in o th er v io le n t rela tionships, however, and they are not ruling out other possible suspects. Officers from the Local Police were first called to the scene at around 3am last Saturday after neighbours reported hearing screams. Seeing blood coming from the entrance, police called in the Guardia
Civil to investigate. The y re port finding Manoli on the floor already dead from her wounds and showing signs of being stabbed multiple times. A pos t-morte m la te r showed the victim had been attacked between 10 and 12 time s a nd ha d de fe ns ive wounds to her arms and hands. Police officers arrested the vic tim’s re porte d boyfriend later that day before he was jailed earlier this week. Loc a l politic ia ns ha ve come out to pay tribute to Manoli, condemning the violent killing. The president of the Junta de Andalucia, Susana Diaz, said, “our society will never advance if we do not stop
this pa tte rn of dome s tic crimes,” after it emerged Manoli was the fifth Spanish woman to be killed in a dome s tic inc ide nt in jus t over 48 hours.

Abusers face jail PROSECUTORS are seeking prison sentences for a father and brother accused of sexually abusing a sixyear-old girl in 2010. The girl’s father who is now 74 years old is facing eight years in prison, while her 27-year-old brother faces three years and eight months in jail after they allegedly sexually assaulted the girl in their family home. The victim’s 44-yearold mother may also receive a two-year sentence after she was accused of watching the incident but doing nothing. The al l eged at t ack, whi ch t ook pl ace i n a small town in Axarquia as yet unnam ed by t he au-
thorities, is said to have taken place in the victim’s parents’ bedroom after the girl was dragged there and pinned down by her father. The girl was placed in a foster family in December 2010 before the incident came to light and was reported in February 2015. Prosecutors are now seeking €70,000 in compensat i on f or t he vi ct i m , €50,000 from her brother and €20,000 from her parent s, i n addi t i on t o t he prison sentences. The victim’s brother is said to ‘suffer from mental disability,’ and may theref or e r ecei ve a sm al l er prison sentence than his father.
