‘Fake agents’ probe goes on

Friend claims driver has ‘no memory’ of events Photo credit Twitter

EXCLUSIVE by Matt Ford A FRIEND of an expatriate man being hunted by Spanish police claims a Costa del Sol horror accident has been misreported as details of the dramatic incident continue to emerge. According to Spanish media, the Briton, 35, leapt to safety seconds before the car he was driving plunged 30 metres off the A-45 dual carriageway, rolling several times before landing on its side in the Guadalmedina River. He managed to walk to a hostel in the nearby village of Casabermeja and was driven to Carlos Haya Hospital in Malaga City with minor bruising, but allegedly failed to tell medics that a 35-year-old man from Riogordo, Axarquia, was still inside the vehicle. The Spaniard was freed five hours later after a passing motorist spotted the wreckage, with rescue workers later describing his con-

But a mutual acquaintance, who wishes to remain anonymous, exclusively told the Euro Weekly News that the two men are “the best of friends,” and “there’s no way that ‘he’ would have abandoned ‘Ricardo’.” The source also claimed there were other inaccuracies

in the stories being circulated by other media before adding: “I have talked to him [the fugitive]. “He says he can’t remember a thing and just woke up in hospital asking what happened. “He’s a really good guy and is trying to decide what to do. “I think he’s handing himself in.” The investigation remains open as investigators continue to trace the man.

Attacked for €20 A 45-YEAR-OLD woman from Torrox called Local Police after she alleged a friend assaulted her in Velez-Malaga to get €20. He then beat her several times, k i c k e d a n d w h i p p e d h e r. P o l i c e s a i d they saw wounds on the woman’s back

which looked like whiplash. The victim told police the alleged assailant was still in the area after they arrived. Her nervousness over the assault made it impossible to trace him, so she was taken to the Regional Hospital and was discharged at around 4am. The woman said she did not feel able to take medication for her injuries and she preferred to rest. Police took her back to her home in Torrox.

POLICE are hunting for six thieves who allegedly robbed a Puerto de la Torre house while posing as Guardia Civil officers. The gang - thought to be of South American origin - used fake Guardia Civil identification cards to enter the home, according to investigators. Once inside, they tied-up the residents with cables and threatened to cut off their fingers if they didn’t reveal where the money was. The robbery happened just after midnight on Sunday in the Chaparral area. When police arrived around 1.30am, they freed the middleaged couple and informed active patrols in the area.
