MALLORCANS are celebrating Day of the Balearic Islands today (Thursday), with events planned throughout the island. The holiday marks the day when the islands were granted their autonomous community status on March 1, 1983. This year is the 35th anniversary of the statute coming into effect. Medieval markets, concerts, sports events, exhibitions and public readings are planned.
