BREAK IN: Five girls robbed a woman in Manacor after locking her in her own apartment. (INSET: Recovered jewellery) By Kat Ashton Five women, aged between 16 and 25, have been detained for allegedly locking an elderly woman in her apartment in Manacor and stealing ₏4,000. Local media sources report the girls entered the w o m a n ’s a p a r t m e n t a f t e r discovering the door was open and took the cash, as well as a large amount of jewellery.

b e p a r t o f a l a rg e r c r i m e network, with several having previous criminal records for stealing. The police were able to recover some of the stolen cash and jewellery and

have not ruled out making further arrests. They also recommended that older residents keep their doors locked and not trust any strangers who try to get into their homes.

Monster fire DOZENS of firefighters struggled to extinguish a huge blaze that tore through a Marratxi industrial estate. The fire broke out at noon on Saturday and affected 10 warehouses, with three of them almost completely destroyed. Among the worst damaged were a t-shirt printing facility, souvenir storage warehouse and an office block. There were no injuries and crowds gathered to watch the firefighters secure the area.
