Killers strike in Mijas A 46-year-old Colombian man has been shot and killed in a targeted attack carried out by three masked men in Mijas. The gunmen fired at least 20 times at their victim who has not been named but is understood to have only recently arrived on the Costa del Sol. The man was hit by several shots fired at point blank range, including one in the neck. The 27-year-old woman who was with him was hit three times in the back, arm and thigh. The shooting took place at the corner of Calles Romeral and Margarita, near the El Zoco shopping centre. The woman managed to escape from their attackers and appears to have hidden in a nearby car. several hours later. She was later taken to hospital where her condition was initially said to be critical. An elderly British resident told police she was awake at the time of the shooting in the early hours of Friday August 19 and heard “several banging noises.” “I didn’t want to believe it was gunfire, although it was
the first thing that sprang to mind,” she said. Officers from the Local Police and Guardia Civil were quickly on the scene at the Calypso urbanisation, Calahonda. The woman’s condition has improved in hospital where she is now said to be stable. The killing in Mijas resembles another shooting in the
town which took place in September 2015 when a Colombian resident was shot
in what was said to be an ongoing drugs war between rival cartels.
