Drugs haul A 24-YEAR-OLD man was arrested by Guardia Civil in Motril after allegedly trying to smuggle six kilos of hashish through the port, hidden inside his car’s battery. The drug was found during a routine check of vehicles travelling on board the Volcan de Tinamar ship from Melilla. Sniffer dogs were the first to alert the authorities of the presence of drugs. The man, who has a previous criminal record, has been remanded in prison.

Jobless queues down in Malaga The service sector has led the April fall with 2,940 people finding work

By Maria Jose Fernandez Unemployment rates have decreased in Malaga by 3,446 people in April, bringing hope to residents in the Axarquia and Costa Tropical. The data represents the second highest fall in Andalucia, beaten only by Sevilla, which registered a reduction of 5,330 people, thanks to the April Fair holidays. In total, 14,425 people have been taken off the lists of those out of work in Andalucia. A total of 206 people have been deregistered as unemployed in VelezMalaga, if compared with the figures

from the previous month. This rate is similar to those registered back in 2012, when unemployment amounted to 9,811 people. In Torrox, 75 people found a job during April, while in Nerja a total of 182 more are now employed. All areas have experienced the April drop, led by the service sector, which reduced by 2,940 people, followed by construction (618 fewer unemployed), agriculture (-237) and the industrial sector (-68). By gender, women continue to be the most affected by unemployment, with 101,309 of them registered as jobless, as opposed to 87,144 men.
