An optimistic outlook

By Steve Frankham TOURISM is looking good for the Costa in 2015, with businesses expecting a highly successful Easter holiday and hotels estimating occupation rates of at least 74 per cent. Data from January and February taken from across Malaga Province reflected an increase in both hotel occupation, numbers of travellers and employment. Figures prepared

by the National Statistics Institute (INE) show that hotels in the province have received 454,999 clients, an increase of more than 6.3 per cent on the same period in 2014, which was already a strong year on the Costa del Sol. These are the third highest figures ever recorded. Not only are more tourists staying, but they appear to be staying for longer

periods, with a 1.4 per cent rise in overnight stays in comparison to the year before. Elias Bendodo, Head of Malaga Provincial Government, said this represented a continued economic boost to the region and that the Costa del Sol’s successful 2014 was “not an isolated incident and that economic recovery which began last year is still very present in 2015.”
