Civil protection investigation A COURT in Torrox is investigating why certain members of Civil Protection reportedly carried out tasks initially allocated to Local Police officers. According to the court, this could lead to a possible case of perverting the course of justice.

Costas are top draw for most visitors to Malaga

FORTY per cent of tourists who come to Andalucia visit the Malaga coast. According to the Malaga Tourism Board, 9.1 million tourists visited the province in 2012, which was 42.33 per cent of all those who visited Andalucia. Their average daily expenditure

Wine harvest photo contest winner ‘LA VENDIMIA’ by Francisco Orozco Saenz was the winner of the First Wine Harvest in the Axarquia photographic contest. A panel of judges chose the picture because it portrayed the ‘extreme difficulty’ of the wine harvest in the Axarquia area. ‘La llegada del arriero’ (The Arrival of the Mule Driver) by Jose Alfonso Torres Garrido, and ‘Dulces uvas’ (Sweet Grapes) by Juan Quesada Galdon won second and third prize respectively. A total of 103 pictures were entered in the contest, which was organised by Jorge Ordoñez Winery, the University of Malaga and Malaga Provincial Government.

Andalucia Councillor for Tourism and Commerce, Rafael Rodriguez, announced that between January and November this year, there have been 4.3 per cent more overnight stays in hotels in Andalucia than over the same period last year, amounting to 41.3 million. The number of visitors amounted to 14.2 million, 3.1 per cent more than in the first 11 months of 2012.
