Archaeological artifacts moved to a new home in Almuñecar ARCHAEOLOGICAL artifacts inappropriately stored in the basement of the health centre in Almuñecar have finally found a new home. Council archaeologists have placed them in a secure room at the Casa de la Cultura after 19 months spent identifying and classifying them. For the time being they are still in boxes as the cultural centre does not have the space to display them properly. However, they are kept in a room at a constant temperature and guarded by council workers. The artifacts were discovered in plastic bags in boxes intended for custard apples, next to debris and other rubbish. Council archaeologists found Phoenician amphorae and Roman figures made with stucco, a material used to decorate vaults. Archaeologists claim the objects are of inestimable value. They also believe the artifacts could be invaluable in researching the commercial relationships formed between towns in ancient times as they throw light on the history of Almuñecar from its very beginnings.
