FOLLOWING the excitement of the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the eyes of the world were focussed on Manchester and the first anniversary of the bombing. Thousands of young people and parents had turned up at the Manchester Arena on May 22, 2017 to enjoy the music of Ariana Grande but their joy turned to horror as one man, Salman Ramadan Abedi blew himself up, taking 22 people with him, wounding 139 and leaving hundreds more with psychological damage. Various political leaders as well as Prince William arrived in the city to attend a Remembrance Service in a packed Cathedral alongside many of those who had survived and relations of those who had been killed. In a show of solidarity, leaders from all of the major religions banded together to show their abhorrence for the ruthless
22 young people died for no reason PRIDE: Manchester was at least on one day, a city, united.
massacre and there was a general feeling of pride in the resilience of the people of Manchester tinged with sadness for those who were so brutally robbed of their lives. Ariana Grande who has clearly been affected by the events of the previous year and had bravely staged a charity concert in the city just a few weeks later tweeted ‘thinking of you all today and every day I love you with all of me and am sending
you all of the light and warmth I have to offer on this challenging day.’ Many added their own personal messages to a ‘tree of hope’. There was a one-minute silence which was observed by many across the UK and there was a festival of music which included an appearance by the Manchester Survivors Choir made up of children and their parents who had been present at the bombing.
It is quite amazing how people can suffer the greatest of indignities when they are totally innocent, yet manage to bounce back and carry on with their lives to the best of their abilities. The loss of 22 innocent lives (plus the bomber) is a tragedy and quite rightly makes headline news but this is just a drop in the ocean when one considers the daily loss of life in wars and insurrections around the world. Syria and Yemen are still the
current hottest spots as different world powers become involved in fighting proxy wars and as is so often the case, thousands of people are sacrificed in order to advance the ideological wishes of a few leaders. Going back to the First World War, the generals sat back whilst the ‘proles’ died in their hundreds of thousands to win a small stretch of mud in Belgium or France (and this is not to take away from the magnificent men who fought the war). Unfortunately, whilst in the west, war is no longer so common (but let’s not forget Bosnia), everyone is now a potential target but life goes on. Here in Spain whilst we may get irritated by bureaucracy and a different pace of life, at least we can be happy that generally we are not on the ‘front line’ and the only real skirmishes are when the occasional visitor has too much to drink.

ESTEPONA’S Town Hall has inaugurated an open-air museum showcasing creations from a renowned Spanish sculptor. Twelve of Santiago de Santiago’s sculptures are now located next to the El Angel beach in Estepona. Town mayor Jose Maria Garcia Urbano said the new display is one of the most important cultural happenings of the year because it comes from “one of Spain’s most famous 20th century sculptors.” The artist’s work is also on show at museums in Saint Petersburg, Moscow and Tokyo. De Santiago also made several public monuments in other Spanish locations and abroad including in Mexico, Denmark and the United States, among others. Estepona’s collection pays tribute to master Spanish painter Francisco de Goya. Eight of the sculptures represent young and beautiful women named Carmen, Kalima, Nemesis, Diana de Estepona,

The Ambassador Simon Manley was ever present making sure that he chatted with all of his guests and John was able to spend some time talking to him about the video recording sent to British communities around Spain which had been inspired by the EWN Media Group wedding party. His daughter bravely sang the opening chorus of God Save the Queen to much applause and the Ambassador said “This wonderful event today illustrates the enormous breadth and depth of the contributions made by British people working with our local partners in almost every corner of Spain. “For example, we have commu-
nity groups that work with the elderly and the unwell, the Royal British Legion, church groups, community groups, British schools representing the 55,000 children who study in British schools across Spain, and of course, our local partners, from town halls and our Honorary Consuls. “It has been an honour to meet such a huge range of inspirational people today, and celebrate this Royal Wedding together.” All who left the event to travel back to their homes across Spain were clearly proud to be British on that special day.

Risky beaches Ex-mayor claims his plans were ignored MIJAS’S Popular Party (PP) leader Angel Nozal is pushing for investment to stabilise the town’s beaches whose erosion is reportedly placing seafront properties at risk. Nozal - who is running to be mayor in 2019 expressed his concerns in a centre-right PP press release. He wants an €80,000 prevention plan, he studied while serving as the mayor in 2014, to be acted on urgently. “The most urgent case is the Almirante building, in Alhamar,” the ex-mayor said. “Sea water crashes on the property’s walls during storms and on normal days, there is hardly any sand.” “It is one of Mijas’s main problems and I cannot see the tripartite government worrying very much about the matter,” the PP leader added. While serving as mayor in 2014 he ordered a diagnostic study to get to the root of the erosion problem and to devise possible solutions. The report identified the cause of erosion at Calahonda and El Bombo beaches, according to the statement. Among the remedies suggested were digging out a 150-metre long ditch at the first location and constructing and installing groynes at the second. The document’s conclusions were approved

by the national government’s coastal demarcation body, despite environmental concerns, the press release said. But opposing political parties have reportedly resisted the plans on three occasions, instead opting to spend on “festival lights, mayoral pub-
licity and vehicles,” Nozal said. But none of the quoted €65 million in spending went to improve coastal infrastructure, he added. The state of the coast will be one of the exmayor’s campaigning points in next year’s mayoral elections.
From the Kop to Kiev via Marbella IN the lead up to Liverpool’s European Champions League final match with Real Madrid tomorrow (Saturday), the team were brought to Marbella for warm weather training. Clearly a favourite spot for manager Jurgen Klopp the whole team was seen undertaking their usual football practice as well as enjoying a few nights together reinforcing friendships and bonds. Some fans have been let down by airline companies as 1,000 had been told that their flights to Kiev were in danger, but the Liverpool Club has been doing all that it can in order to ensure that these loyal fans get to see the match. In the meantime, the squad set off for Ukraine yesterday (Thursday) to give them a short period of time of acclimatisation before what will be the biggest match that many of the players have ever taken part in.

EQUALITY, team spirit and respect will be the values of San Roque’s newest sport club. The Centurias sports club’s main objective is to use sport as a means to achieving full physical and mental development. It will work in different areas of the municipality and with all age groups. Senior councillor, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, announced proposals for the new sports club alongside sports minister Antonio Navas and the head basketball and athletics coaches. Basketball will be one of the new club’s strongholds. And the town’s reputation in the sport will allow the club to start on the right foot. The club’s basketball section will “prioritise young players, without forgetting about the senior categories, and will also pay special attention to women’s basketball at all levels,” club representatives said. There will also be an Athletics section in the northern part of the town which Centurias officials hope will grow quickly, given the ‘strong demand’ that already exists. To achieve the ‘highest quality’ of sports provision the club plans to invest highly in training its staff, whether they are sports or psychologist specialists. The new club encouraged anyone who wanted to join their ‘great family’ to get involved.

Fuel seized WALKERS: Literally jumping for joy.
Walking against cancer raised €29,000 LAST Sunday CUDECA Cancer Care Hospice, together with 1,600 participants, celebrated its annual Walkathon along Benalmadena’s seafront. CUDECA’s charity walk aims to raise awareness about the Foundation’s work as well as raising funds which go towards covering the costs of the free assistance programmes provided by teams of doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, physiotherapists and qualified volunteers.
Every year CUDECA Hospice assists more than 1,400 people with cancer or other advanced incurable illnesses, giving support to their families. Since the charity was formed in 1992, CUDEC A has cared for more than 14,000 patients, completely free of charge. Thanks to the generosity of participants, friends, collaborators, sponsors and the effort of more than 100 fantastic volunteers, more than €29,000 has been raised at this event. This family-fun sports day was attended by
members of several local institutions including Víctor Navas, mayor of Benalmadena, Alicia Laddaga, councillor for Health as well as Paloma García, Vice President and Institutional Relations Delegate at Acosol; Antonio Velligre, Director of the CaixaBank office in Torrequebrada, and on behalf of the Cudeca Foundation, Dr Marisa Martín, Chief Executive and Medical Director and Rafael Olalla, Deputy Chief Executive and Financial Director.
GUARDIA CIVIL officers have uncovered a stash of more than 3,700 litres of fuel in La Linea de la Concepcion as part of a wider crackdown on drugs gangs. Police reportedly found 149 25-litre plastic jerry cans full of the liquid in a storage space in La Atunara in the town. It was the largest seizure of fuel in a single operation, according to Spain’s Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido. Zoido said on Twitter the seizure was part of a strategy to tackle drugs running gangs on all fronts. “In this war we continue to hit drugs traffickers on all sides: on logistics and on supply lines,” he wrote. Police are now tracing the owner of the depot, according to Guardia Civil sources.

affair that had retained much from its glory days, and I was amazed to see faces in it that I’d ever only seen on the big screen - Kenneth William, Alec Guinness and Denholm Elliot, to name but a few, I was even more delighted to learn that the bar had gained worldwide fame when it was featured in the 1961 British suspense film Victim, starring Dirk Bogarde and Sylvia Syms. It was the first English language film to use the word ‘homosexual’ - and it played a significant role in the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK. It was in the Salisbury in 1975 that I met the first great love of my life, an ex-army signalman called Brian Parry. We instantly bonded, and remained happily together for 21 years. Cancer took him in 1996. He was just 47. With decades of gay history stretching back to Oscar Wilde’s time, one would have thought that The Salisbury would remain a haven for gay clientele forever, but in the mid-1980s a decision was made to turn it straight. In a move that left regulars hurt and bewildered, staff turned really nasty to-

ON the very first day I arrived in London from Johannesburg in South Africa back in 1973, I stood rattling the door of a bar called The Salisbury in St Martins Lane, wondering why, at 4pm, it was shut. Just then a handsome young copper came ambling up, and said “you must be a tourist, or else you would know that bars don’t open until 5.30.” Then he added with a sneer: “You shouldn’t go into that place unless you’re a bleedin’ poofter.” I replied that, although I wasn’t actually in search of a gay bar, it was good to know that I’d inadvertently found one. “So, thanks for your help, officer, and if you care to join me here later I’ll gladly buy you a drink.” He blushed all the way up to his helmet (pardon the expression) and hissed “I can have you for propositioning me, sunshine, but I’ll let you off with a warning this time.” And off he strode in a huff. When the bar eventually opened I immediately vowed to adopt it as my local. Built around 1899, it was a sumptuously-appointed Victorian

Gay or straight, all are welcome at the Company Bar in Benidorm. wards those who had supported the bar for years, if not decades. This move left The Salisbury completely depleted of customers. The proprietors discovered the hard way that, while you can easily
rid a bar of unwanted clients, it’s a damn side harder to kill its reputation. Heterosexuals, believing it was still a gay bar, gave it a wide berth and, for about two years, it remained virtually empty.
I was reminded of The Salisbury by an article that appeared recently in RTN which suggested that Benidorm’s Old Town, a long-time Mecca for LGBT tourists, was in danger of losing its gay identity as a result of an influx of straight stag and hen parties. A guy who read the piece said he thought that local gay bar owners should actively discourage such groups. “Gay bars should be for gay people only,” he grumped. “Nope,” I replied. “All my life I’ve campaigned for equality, and that extends way beyond LGBT issues.” I then pointed out that some of the best nights I’ve had in the Old Town have been in the company of men and women of all ages gay and straight - who have come to spend their money in establishments that fly the rainbow flag precisely because they enjoy the campness, camaraderie and the sheer gaiety that many other bars and clubs lack. Wherever inclusivity trumps suspicion, hatred and fear the result is bound to be gatherings of people who no longer feel the need to cocoon themselves among their own kind. The days when there was a real need for exclusively gay venues like The Salisbury have long passed and I, for one, am glad that they have been replaced by a new order that allows people to be themselves in whatever bar or club they choose to patronise. Every company needs a Nicki Burgess IN every successful business, there is an unsung hero without whom, things would run less smoothly. In the case of the EWN Media Group, publishers of six Euro Weekly News titles, three RTN newspaper titles and Sol Times, that person is General Manager Nicki Burgess. She has become a well-respected figure around the regions that the newspapers cover and goes out of her way to make friends with clients wherever she goes. Although a super sales person, as General Manager, Nicki is literally here, there and everywhere, ensuring that the day to day life of the business proceeds as smoothly as possible. She is involved in recruitment, accounts, sales, day to day management and is the first person that proprietors Michel and Steven Euesden turn to when there is a problem. A bit like a swan, she is calm on the exterior whilst paddling furiously to ensure that everything for the company goes according to plan and when it was decided at relatively short notice to hold the Royal Wedding party - featured in this week’s newspaper - Nicki visited various local charities in order to invite guests to attend. But that wasn’t all, she was the glue that held
the entire operation together organising support from local businesses, finding the food, drink and even the bunting and being last out and first in every day in the build up to the event. Nicki even managed to explain to a Spanish cake maker how to create the Union Flag decoration on the special cake. All at the EWN Media Group take this opportunity to join in with the publishers in their thanks to this long serving and exceptionally efficient member of the family.

Spanish Tax Office is described as ‘inquisitor’ by 35 professors by Antonio Flores
Abogado/Lawyer LLM (Essex) - Reg. Nº 4712 I.C.A. Málaga E-mail: aflores@lawbird.com Homepage: http://belegal.com/blog-by-antonio-flores www.lawbird.com
THE Spanish Tax Office has come under heavy fire from a select group of 35 tax and law professors for what they consider is an ‘inquisitorial’ approach to taxcollection. The experts, who met in Granada a few days ago, showed no sympathy for a state organisation that ‘bullies’ taxpayers into submission by flouting principles such as presumption of innocence, juridical and legal security and equality. The declaration signed by the
legal experts touches on various aspects: - Gradual conversion of the role of taxpayer into a ‘tax servant.’ - Excessive zeal for aggressive tax collection campaigns -perceived as unfair and unjust - that are producing a deterioration of legal security. - Higher tax tolerance for multinational companies who, due to their unlimited resources, can dramatically reduce their tax exposure in Spain. The document refers to online giant retailers that avoid taxes by distorting the interpretation of ‘geographical’ location in revenue legislation (and get away with it). - ‘Cantonization’ of the Spanish tax system by reference to the notable differences, or discriminations, between different Spanish territories. - Usurpation by the govern-
ment of tax legislative functions, in detriment of the Parliament’s functions. Far from easing their grip on taxpayers the Spanish Revenue System, commonly known as ‘Hacienda,’ has upped the ante by finalising the drafting of a Code of Good Conduct where tax advisors and lawyers handling tax affairs will be held jointly liable with their clients, in cases of fraud and evasion. Whilst many see in the Spanish Tax Office a tyrannical entity intent on extorting wealth from lawabiding citizens, others see this as the price to pay to become a full ‘Western’ nation in control of its people. As George Washington stated more than two centuries ago: […] Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

An interview with Sandra Danby INTERVIEW
SANDRA DANBY: An author who now lives in Ronda.
by Ali Meehan SANDRA DANBY is an award-winning author who specialises in writing stories around the theme of adoption. A proud Yorkshire woman, Sandra is a tennis nut and tea drinker. She believes a walk on the beach will cure most ills. Why did you move to Spain? Our first villa holiday was to Mallorca and we fell in love with it and wanted to explore more of Spain. During our second villa holiday, this time in the mountains behind Palamos near Barcelona, we decided we wanted to live here. That was followed by a succession of short breaks, city breaks and [yet more] villa holidays as we stayed in different parts of the country. We realised quite quickly that we like the sun and so focused on Andalucia. The first time we visited Ronda, we knew it was the place for us. The countryside and mountains are spectacular, there is some of the best hiking, horse-riding and bird watching here. It ticked our boxes of nature, privacy, sun, and access to Malaga airport.
Then, of course, food and wine. Everyone here grows their own vegetables, it is much simpler than at home given the amount of sunshine. Also our finca is groaning with olive, fruit and nut trees. Ronda has its own wine denominacion and there are some wonderful bodegas to visit, taste and buy.
The people are so friendly. We live in a small village - we are the only ‘English’ in the village - and people are unfailingly helpful and forgiving of our muddled spoken Spanish. A cup of coffee is a social ritual, as are the swapping of vegetables [everyone grows too many!] Tell us some of your history - what were you doing before you moved to Spain? We were living in Wimbledon and were at a point in our lives when our jobs were changing. I transitioned from working as a freelance journalist to becoming a full-time author, and so was suddenly able to write anywhere. It gave us the freedom to be away from London and the south-east of England for the first time. Where do you get your ideas from? There is no Idea Factory [to quote Stephen King]. I read a lot - novels, history, newspapers and magazines - I visit galleries and museums, I walk in the countryside. I think as a writer you become a sponge, absorbing what
surrounds you and reusing it sometimes years later. What usually happens is that, at a time when I am distracted by something, I get a Eureka moment, the connection which knits it all together. Often it is better to stop searching and let the sub-conscious do its work. Your latest project is…? My second novel ‘Connectedness’ is published this month. It follows on from ‘Ignoring Gravity,’ which tells the story of journalist Rose Haldane who finds out, in her 30’s, that she was adopted as a baby. In ‘Connectedness,’ Rose is asked by artist Justine Tree to find the daughter she gave away when she was an art student. ‘Connectedness’ was written after we moved to Spain and so there is a big role for Malaga - how could I ignore the birthplace of Pablo Picasso which is on our doorstep. Both books are available at Amazon as ebook and paperback. Author website: http://www.sandradanby.com/ The interview was with Ali Meehan founder of costawomen.com, a free community for Women living in Spain, or planning on heading this way.

Happy to be part of the local community AS crowds gathered on the streets of Windsor last Saturday and people across Britain and Spain got ready for their own wedding parties, so a band of British expatriates met up to celebrate in the Costa del Sol. The British Embassy was holding a party in Madrid, and amongst those who had been invited were Michel and Steven Euesden, proprietors of EWN Media Group and publishers of Euro Weekly News, RTN and Sol Times who thought that it would be more appropriate to spend the money involved in travelling to Madrid on members of the local community. That doesn’t mean that EWN wasn’t represented at the Madrid event as John Smith who is increasingly more involved with the RTN newspaper had also been invited and made the journey with his wife. As the Group was to be represented by a senior staff member in Madrid, those who remained on the Costa del Sol put their not inconsiderable skills to organising an event for local, mainly elderly residents, to enjoy the Royal Wedding in company with a drink and a bite to eat. First they had to find a suitable location at short notice and Bob and Linda Hackshaw, owners of the Villalinda restaurant on the Mijas road, volunteered their delightful property with extensive terraces as the venue with the hope that the weather would remain pleasant. The event was sponsored by Currencies Direct in conjunction with media partner Spectrum FM and other local companies including Iceland, Calvin’s Hairdresser, Bunches Florist, Bing Asian, Don Alfonso Restaurant, La Parra Gold and Cardland. Two great entertainers, Antony Wolfson and One Wish Steve volunteered their services and the EWN staff rallied round helping to lay out the tables and chair, hang out the bunting and balloons, preparing sandwiches and drinks and then clearing up afterwards. Representatives of the EWN Media Group visited local charities such as Age Care and Age Concern who had particular contact with the elderly and invited their
clients and members who might wish to attend and in the end, some 150 people arrived to share the excitement generated by the wedding, having first being greeted with a glass of Pimms (which flowed freely throughout the day) and to chat with friends old and new. Nicki Burgess, General Manager of the group was a tower of strength, working behind the scenes to ensure that all went smoothly and it was she who arranged for the baking of a sensational Union Jack cake made by Pin Ups Cakes in Fuengirola. It was also important to be able to welcome David Toms, the celebrity photographer who was unfortunately paralysed in a motorbike accident in 2016 and although still in need of constant care is very slowly showing some signs of partial recovery. Nicole King, presenter of Marbella Now TV was present to record the event and to the delight of all made a special presentation of a personalised RTV Marbella award to Michel Euesden, thanking her for all she has done for the local community over the years which came as a complete surprise that for once left Michel almost speechless. All of the guests were able to enter a free prize draw which saw Janice Stanford win a brand new large screen TV. British Ambassador Simon Manley was not to be left out and at the suggestion of the EWN Media Group, he recorded a message which was broadcast at the event and ended in a toast to the new young Royal couple. In this part of Spain, the Royal Family is held in great esteem and the turn out to this event with so many people dressing up in Union Jack inspired costumes, ready to wave their flags shows this Costa del Sol community still retains patriotic links with the ‘mother country.’
Thank You

Starting a business in Spain? Choosing between limited and autonomo Costa Luz Lawyers by Keith
By María L. de Castro Lawyer. Director. Costaluz Lawyers THERE are different economic, as well as legal reasons in order to choose between one or other trading form. You need to choose the legal form that best suits your needs. • Disclaimer: In the case of self-employed, the liability is unlimited while limited liability companies’ liability is limited to the capital. Thus, when a limited company goes bankrupt, only the company possessions can be touched, never the assets of the company owners. • Financial requirements: A limited company requires a minimum capital of €3,006.00. • Taxes: Self-employed individuals can obtain benefits for their business
and will be taxed on their income. However, a limited company is taxed through corporation tax. • Number of members: More than one person trading together usually makes a company, although law envisages the possibility of one-person limited companies, consisting of a single person or entity. • Social security and taxes formalities: To commence a business as a sole trader is much faster and easier than opting for a limited company. As a selfemployed person you just need to register within the Treasury department and start paying taxes and social security fees. As a limited company, you need to first establish the company - through the granting of a Notary deed and register it in the Commercial Registry - and also perform registration at Taxes and Labour departments. web@costaluzlawyers.es C/ Regino Martinez 30, 3 Algeciras Phone #: 0034 956 092 687 Pioneers and Number one National Law Firm on Off Plan Refunds Full catalogue of Legal Services for expats in Spain

food & drink This week Celebrity Chef from Ready Steady Cook & Master Chef Steven Saunders, proprietor of The Little Geranium in La Cala is cooking for The Queen!
Royal stories! Steven Saunders FMCGB The Little Geranium La Cala de Mijas & Marbella
www.thelittlegeranium.com THIS last week or so has been completely consumed by the Royals and the Royal Wedding of Harry and Meghan. So it seems an opportune time to tell you some of my Royal stories! I was involved with The Lowry in Salford Quays Manchester with the objective of opening in 2000 as a Millennium arts centre and restaurant project. I sat with the board and they asked me who I knew that was famous to open The
Lowry. One of them said, you were out with that Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen last night weren’t you? Could you ask him? Laurence is a fantastic guy but I was thinking we could shoot a little higher, so to speak… why don’t we ask The Queen and if she declines we could then consider a number of celebrities? I said. The board agreed and wrote to the Palace. When the Queen accepted we were all very surprised but delighted. Now we had to make arrangements for the Royal visit and we were nowhere near ready to open. In the early 90’s Princess Diana had been a client of my Pink Geranium and she had always loved our famous crispy duck salad (still on the menu). I suggested that we served that as a starter for the Queen’s lunch at The Lowry but having to meet protocol we were instructed not to discuss or mention Diana with the Queen and therefore after thinking about it, the duck salad would definitely not be something we should serve! Before the days of Princess Diana visiting the Pink Geranium we were well-known for Prince Charles frequenting the restaurant
and I was always passionate about serving organic and home-grown food which Charles loved. So I created a menu for the Queen with organic ingredients. Terrine of organic vegetables with organic goat’s cheese, organic lamb from Highgrove (Prince Charles’ Estate) with accompanying wines. We were warned of the Duke’s (Prince Phillip’s) sense of humour and when they arrived we formed a line and formally greeted them. We were advised how to neck bow and how to address the Queen starting always with Your Majesty and subsequently Ma’am pronounced like Jam they told me. Imagine it with one A… Jam, Mam. The Duke stood next to me looked up at all the immense glass (similar design to the Guggenheim Bilbao) and said... “do you need a window cleaner?” It may not sound that funny now but w h e n you are
in line and on your best behaviour it made me laugh out and having already met the Queen minutes earlier I had the mam/jam story in my mind and I apologised to her for laughing out loud and said I am so sorry Jam! Fortunately I don’t think she heard me and although I could hear the sniggering of the people next to me, I think I got away with it. After all of that if I had served Lady Diana’s favourite dish to Her Majesty, I think I may have been executed! Anyway it’s a dish that’s always amazingly popular and I have shared the recipe with you before but some time ago. So here it is, a Royal salad endorsed by Princess Diana and actually Charles loves it too!
Crispy Duck Salad Ingredients for 4
500 ml of water
2 large legs of confit duck (cooked duck meat) (We confit our own duck legs but confit duck is also available in good supermarkets either in tins or vacuum packed. You will need approx half a duck leg per person, the meat is picked from the bone carefully so that there are no bones, skin or gristle.) 4 heaped tablespoons of cornflour seasoned with salt and black pepper Oil for frying (sunflower) pre heated in a wok or fat fryer, heat to 190 c For the sauce 6 tablespoons of sweet chilli sauce (bottles are available from supermarkets) 1 tablespoon of soy sauce 2 tablespoons of white wine 1 tablespoon of plum (or hoi sin) sauce (available in most supermarkets) 1 stick of fresh lemon grass chopped into 2cm pieces 1 stick of cinnamon (broken in half) 2 pieces of star anise 4 cloves garlic peeled and cut in halves 2 teaspoons of sesame oil 1 piece of fresh ginger (approx 3cm) peeled and sliced into large pieces
For the salad Assorted premium salad leaves ½ red onion peeled and finely chopped 1 small bunch of fresh coriander (picked, so that you have little sprigs) 1 small bunch of fresh mint some picked, some chopped 2 mild jalapeno chillies finely sliced seeds removed The seeds of fresh pomegranate (approx 2 tablespoons) Micro cresses to finish or rocket leaves
Method First prepare the sauce by mixing all the ingredients together and heating in a saucepan until thickish. Add a little cooking white wine or light chicken stock to loosen it a little if need be. Set aside and allow to cool. It should be the thickness of double cream. Remove the pieces of ginger, star anise, cinnamon and garlic which we left in large pieces so that we could remove them at the end. Now pull the salad ingredients together so that it is all mixed ready to use. Take the picked duck meat and toss it through the sea-
soned cornflour and dust the flour off the meat using a sieve so that it isn’t thickly coated. Fry in the pre-heated oil in either a large wok or deep fryer and fry until crispy and season immediately with a few flakes of salt Drain onto tissue Put the crispy duck in a clean bowl Take approx one flat tablespoon of the finished sauce per person and add it to the duck with the red onion and the contents of the salad dropping in the leaves, herbs, pomegranate etc. into the bowl, mix well together. Serve in small bowls (1 per person) or serve moulded into a 4-5cm ring to make it more special to look at! Serve with chopsticks!

The tomato and me Credit: DZeta Shutterstock
by Colin Bird The opinions published in Colin’s weekly column are not necessarily representative of those of the publishers, advertisers or newspaper sponsors. I HAVE never understood why I have this problem when it comes to eating or preparing tomatoes. It’s as if they possess some weird alien intelligence whose mission it is to make me look bad in the eyes of the Princess. A tomato is not even sure of its own identity. It is a fruit if you happen to be a botanist, but definitely veg if you are the chief cook of the household like me. What I do know is that it’s a treacherous beast and it came as no surprise to learn that the tomato is a member of the deadly nightshade family. They seem to be waiting for me wherever I go and no matter what precautions I take, they ambush me when I am least expecting it, blitzing my clothes. The problem is I love tomatoes;
DELICIOUS: However, the cunning tomatoes are just waiting to pounce.
whether they be part of a Greek salad, a bolognese sauce or simply on toast, but when my eagle-eyed lady gets a hint that I am about to indulge once more, I receive the dreaded Medusa look. It has been known for me to be seated in a restaurant with a napkin tucked
into the top of my shirt; another wedged into my waistband and newspaper draped over both legs, before the Princess will allow me to take one bite of a tomato based dish. It’s embarrassing. And pointless, because invariably I will find that once I have been un-
wrapped there are blobs of tomato on my shoes (white ones of course) or in my hair. I thought I couldn’t go wrong by eating those little bite sized cherry jobs, but no, although I pop one in my mouth and seal my lips tight shut, as soon as I bite down the juice finds the smallest of gaps and spurts out under pressure down my shirt front. My last encounter was with a chilli con carne at a local eatery where, because my dear lady was absent, disaster was inevitable. Cutting into a chunky chip with the edge of my fork, one half of the potato leapt into the air, did a double back flip and taking a dollop of tomato rich sauce with it, hit me in the chest and dropped onto my lap. My white, newly pressed linen shortsclad lap. I was pondering this yesterday as I absently pulled the aluminium ring on a tin of sardines. The lid came away like a coiled spring and showered my shirt with a deadly mixture of fish oil and the inevitable tomato sauce. That stain will never shift, so I have quietly disposed of the garment in the bin and hope that my beloved will not notice its passing.

Each new pair in the Kylie Minogue eyewear collection takes its name from one of her classic tracks, including All The Lovers and Spinning Around. The six glasses, two fashion-tinted glasses and one sunglasses frames join the rest of the glamorous collection in Specsavers Opticas stores from Wednesday May 23. With Kylie describing the style cues as ‘reinterpreted retro’, the collection features a chic mix of rose gold, soft pastels and classic monochrome, adorned with delicate Swarovski crystals and her unmistakable ‘K’ tag. To complement the specs, Kylie has, for the first time, designed a selection of stylish glasses chains in black, midnight blue and dark brown faux leather. Kylie said: “After the success of my debut collection, I was so excited to

Love At First Sight Sun Rx “These frames are great for adding that little splash of colour to your wardrobe on holiday. The pilot-style adds a touch of masculinity which contrasts with the rose-tinted lens. These are my favourite, it was love at first sight!”

Why are you broke?
by Michael Walsh
CAREFUL with your finances and pay your credit cards on time to avoid interest charges? Don’t be too smug. Every time you purchase a train ticket; buy a pair of shoes or use public services roughly 40 per cent of the outlay will have gone to the banking industry’s vaults. According to Ellen Brown, chairman of America’s Public Banking Institute, bank interest charges are regressive, which means the poor are milked to gratify the rich. A public banking sector would discount up to 40 per cent off everything we buy or use. This is the reason why the private banking system can’t ultimately challenge nationalised banks like those of Russia, China and Iran. It explains America’s $21 trillion debt. Farmers, manufacturers and transportation costs are dependent upon bank credit. Each in the supply chain must invest, use premises, engage labour, materials and transport, etc. This before
the end product is available. This credit is accumulative and variable. German professor, Margrit Kennedy reveals that 35 to 40 per cent of everything we buy goes on bank interest. Each time local government and ordinary purchasers spend €100, 40 per cent is si-
phoned off by the banking conglomerate’s accumulative interest rates. Dr Kennedy discovered that even in fiscally prudent Germany bank interest adds 12 per cent to the cost of refuse collection. When we receive a water bill presume an eye-watering 38 per cent of the

invoice value will go directly to the e-vaults of the private banking sector. In Germany a breathtaking 77 per cent of rentable public housing goes in private bank interest. American citizens need not smirk; compound interest on most mortgages amounts to 80 per cent
of what they pay for home or business premises. The home of the free is actually the home of the free ride if you are a bondholder, banker or financier. The noted German researcher and analyst draws heavily on the findings of economist, Helmut Creutz. His findings are based on the German economic model. However, if you are not German don’t get too excited; the same corrupt banking system is in place throughout the European Union and United Kingdom. Financial sector profits comprise an incredible 40 per cent of the price of whatever Americans purchase. This may go some way to explaining why 1 per cent of Americans own 42 per cent of the national wealth. Only 5 per cent of America’s wealth is shared between those making up 80 per cent of the population. If we had a financial system that transferred private bank interest back to the public purse 35 per cent could be lopped off the price of everything we buy. That means we could buy three items for the price of two; our salaries would go 50 per cent farther than they go today.

IT’S really up to us to decide whether we have a good, bad or indifferent day. How is that you may ask? It’s quite simple. You see it’s not when we wake up, it’s how we wake up. It’s not when we go to sleep, it’s how we go to sleep. Whether we realise it or not, most of us are attached to negativity and drama, whether it’s watching television or reading a book etc. Unless it is empowering, then it doesn’t serve us well. When we go to bed at night, the last thing we do, read or watch will be the last thing we remember before falling asleep. Anything that doesn’t give us peace and calmness before we fall asleep leaves a marinating effect on us for the time we are asleep. We then wake up and the first thing we generally reach for is our phone to check messages, news etc. This really isn’t the best way to start our day as we simply trigger our minds prematurely to naturally start stressing, worrying and planning the day ahead, literally minutes after opening our eyes, leaving us no time to be grateful for the many good things we all have. Our thoughts control our feelings and our feelings determine our emotions, this impacts on our mood for the day, which in
How do you start and finish your day?
POSITIVE THINKING: No need to wake up to bad news.
turn affects ourselves and people around us, which will determine our results for the day. I invite you to try this exercise for a month to see what results you get. Before you go to bed, read something that serves you, such as a book on personal growth or an uplifting book that makes you feel happy. Do not read or watch negative news or
violence on television before bed, instead, watch something light-hearted or something that makes you laugh, although, not at the expense of others. Buy an alarm clock, and leave your mobile phone in another room. When you open your eyes in the morning, you won’t be tempted to reach for your phone, so spend that time thinking of
something you are grateful for. Being grateful alleviates worry, fear and even anger as they are opposing emotions and cannot be expressed at the same time. You are the best qualified person on the planet at being you, so it’s up to you to work on yourself and create an amazing life which you deserve. So let’s start with making each day better and build up from there. Remember, there is no road to happiness, happiness is the road and we are already on it. The best way to predict your future is to create it. Robert is a former broker who will be writing for RTN newspaper once a month and told us “My aim during my career was to find a way of breaking the corporate shackles and creating a better life for myself and my family. I have achieved this since moving to Spain. “Due to the privilege of having more time to study, train and develop myself further, I am now in a position to help others who need direction and personal growth.” He will be happy to respond to reader’s enquiries through robshallis@gmail.com.

-IR verb endings in present simple
Basic Spanish for everyday needs
by Jane Cronin
so we can repeat it for all six changes. WE are still working on our present simple tense of verbs and the changes that they make depending on which group they fall into. To understand how the present simple tense works we have to divide verbs into three categories: 1. Standard verbs which follow simple regular patterns; 2. Root-changing verbs which also follow regular patterns; 3. Irregular verbs of which there are only four. We are currently still in category 1, and we have looked at the changes made to -ar and -er ending verbs. So, in this article we shall look at standard -ir ending verbs, which will mean that one main category will have been dealt with. Let’s take a common -ir verb: VIVIR which means ‘to live.’ Remember that the first thing we must always do is separate the ending -IR from the root VIV. This is a basic procedure that we need to get into the habit of doing whenever we are dealing with verbs. As we have seen with our previous standard verbs, the root VIV will not vary,
Viv Viv Viv
Viv Viv Viv
Now for the ending changes which indicate who is the person or persons who live. These are as follows. o es e
imos is en
You will notice that these are not dramatically different from the ‘-er’ verb endings. In fact there are only two forms (first and second persons plural) which vary. I like to think that -ir verbs have a slight identity problem. They are inclined to copy -er verbs at the drop of a hat. Now let’s put our example verb together. Vivo Vives Vive
Vivimos Vivis Viven
A reader writes about Michael Walsh articles JUDGING by the repetitive views espoused by M i c h a e l Wa l s h i n y o u r p a p e r e ac h w e e k o n b e half of Vladimir Putin and the Russian government, I believe he is in grave danger of presenting himself as a modern day King Canute. Apar t from Jeremy Corbyn, V ladimir Putin and his cronies and M i c h a e l Wa l s h , t h e re can’t be too many people on the planet who seriously believe that Russia is not involved in some way with the very serious events which took place in Salisbur y recently. “Needless to say there
wasn’t a shred of evidence to sug gest Russian involvement” he writes! He accuses the media of peddling fake news - “ There isn’t enough evidence of Russian responsibility t o re a c h a M a g i s t ra t e ’s Court”! Really! - How does he know? D o e s h e s e r io u s l y b e l i e v e t h a t t h e w o r l d ’s leading security services would not have evidence which they are unlikely to share with him or the general public? Would so many of the world’s leading nations, headed by the United States, have been so eager to add their names
to the condemnation of R u s s i a w i t h o u t g re a t e r evidence of involvement than that published in the general media? I’ve noticed over the years that whenever there is criticism of Russia in general and Putin in par ticular, Mr Walsh is the first to their defe n ce , w h i c h c a u s e s m e to wonder - without wishing to add to the subject of ‘fake news’does Mr Walsh have connections in that regard? I am relieved to note your disclaimer at the bottom of the page, distancing yourselves from his views. Ken, San Fulgencio
I can’t resist reminding you what this all means, just in case you are losing the plot - vivo (I live), vives (you live - when there’s only one ‘you’) vive (he lives, she lives, it lives, and the more formal - you live), vivimos (we live), vivis (you live -
37
when there’s more that one ‘you’), viven (they live - or more rarely the more formal - you, when there’s more than one you to be formal to). Now you can understand why it’s not terribly convenient to repeat all of that every time! Just in case that last one has upset you, just stick with: viven means ‘they live’ and that will be just fine! Well, there are of course many other standard -ir verbs that behave in the same way, for example: escribir (to write), abrir (to open), recibir (to receive). If you remember we saw in the last article that occasionally the first person singular (I) form ‘does its own thing.’ This also happens with some standard ‘-ir’ verbs, for example salir (to go out). The first person ‘I go out’ is salgo, but the rest of the verb is completely regular. Likewise conducir (to drive) conduzco (I drive), oir (to hear) oigo (I hear). Oir makes some other minor spelling adjustments although it remains a standard verb. However, I see I’ve got rather carried away today so you’ll be sad to know we haven’t got time to discuss oir any further. ¡Hasta la semana que viene!

Help when you most need it
ENGLISH FUNERAL DIRECTORS: Offering a caring and professional service.
THE loss of a loved one at any time is traumatic but if it happens here in Spain, you may well need help from a caring and knowledgeable team to deal with what could be a difficult process. The English Funeral Directors, based on the Costa del Sol was created by proprietor John in order to offer expatriates a service to steer them through the requirements of Spanish law and ensure that the important administrative work is completed on their behalf. Traditions and practice with regards to death in the UK are quite different to those in Spain, where the deceased is normally buried within 24 hours but if required, the English Funeral Directors can arrange to delay the process so that friends and family can be alerted to travel over for the ceremony.
They can also contact an Englishspeaking minister or celebrant to conduct the service or arrange repatriation to the UK which will be organised personally by John. Death can be an expensive business for those left behind and the English Funeral Directors offer various pricing options to suit your needs, as well as the opportunity for individuals to subscribe to pre-paid funeral plans which can be used in the UK or Spain. If you have the unhappy need to contact a funeral director, then John will be able to offer a caring and personal service and you can reach him by calling 699 664 660 or via email to john@eng lishfuneraldirectors.com. Aries. Pluto is incumbent this week, and so don’t listen to the tittle tattle of others, but do come to your own conclusions, offering helpful assistance wherever it is appropriate. Trining with Jupiter means that you may be out on a limb somewhat, but better than to suffer in silence than accepting other people’s version of events.
Libra. Balanced by the Sun in cahoots with Saturn your innermost energies are called to bring timbre to a situation that appears to be veering out of control, before your very eyes. Rather than think of your quest for balance, feel that your input right now is very much the icing on the best cake, and presentation and turn out are absolutely vital.
Taurus. The opposition with Saturn sees that your planetary leader is working against the odds to come up trumps for you right now. Taking into consideration all that has happened recently Saturn may not assist in speeding things up, but you are getting a second opinion that is truly second, to none, whilst others get a true run for their money.
Scorpio. Your strong healing energies are sought this week to bring resolve to conflict and to end hostilities. If at first you don’t succeed, look within to use that powerful energy to make a difference, because things cannot go on like this for much longer. Forget the apology you deserve, as it won’t be too long in coming your way now anyway!
Gemini. Mercury enters at the end of an eventful week that has given you the chance to show others what you can do if you are given a blank canvas. Build on this because it can only work well for you in the future. Accept that the kudos of a present Mercury allows channels of communication to not only open, but to work for you on your behalf.
Sagitarius. It would seem as if somebody is literally biting the hand that feeds them, and this has become unbelievably ugly as late. Jealousy and greed has seen that someone didn’t get their two pennyworth, but that was not of your making and neither was it your intention. Jupiter rescues financial woes by rewarding actions with Neptune.
Cancer. Moon magic and the Sun nudging up to Saturn and you are going to have to be patient a little bit longer in the current scheme of things. The good news is that you are both prepared and ready to act when called, which will be when the time is right and compromise is no longer a feature of the action. Be assured all will go well, but not yet!
Capricorn. Take what is going on around you with a pinch of salt. Truth is the answer to the negativities of those who obviously do not have your true interests at heart! The Mercury ingress in Gemini helps you to weigh up the pros and cons somewhat, and so too keeps you with a level head and the very best of intentions to work with.
Leo. Go with the flow this week because you have put a lot of energy into a project that has in turn seen you change your mind about things. Jupiter is in trine with Neptune and your powerful and productive energies are much sought after now that things are at a critical level, and you offer solution and the strong leadership to enable and back it.
Aquarius. Take some time for yourself this week. You have been taking on too much recently, but now that you can take the pressure off a little, do so. Ideally pack a bag and travel, but if this is not possible take some well-earned rest, and put your feet up! There is a busy time ahead, and you know it, so rest and relax now, while you can, and enjoy!
Virgo. You have been both questioning and unsure of late, so you have shelved things that could be possible, and are currently awaiting solution any which way it comes along. This is a time to take control and to focus on the positive, not the probable. You never know what you can do until you try, but the way things are, you are about to find out!
Pisces. Your deeply spiritual energies can sometimes be at loggerheads with the negativities of an uncaring World around you. Right now your creative balance is calling you to work with other people, as you have skills that you need to share with receptive people who can see, more than ever, the great difference you could make to them!

Albert Costa still ready to compete.
Marbella Mayor Muñoz with Manolo Santana.
THE Spaniards Carlos Moyá, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Albert Costa, the Russian Marat Safin, the Croatian Goran Ivanisevic, and the French Sebastien Grosjean and Yannick Noah will compete in the Senior Masters Cup 2018. The competition will take place on September 28 and 29 at the Tennis Club of the Puente Romano Hotel. This is the third Senior Masters Cup to be held in Marbella and this time, three former world number ones and six Grand Slam champions will meet. The tournament is now becoming an important date in the sports and social calendar of the Costa del Sol with tickets now on sale today either through the tournament website (www.seniormasterscup.com) or ticketea (www.ticketea.com). “We are very pleased to present this impressive list of players for the third edition of the Senior Masters Cup. A list that ensures a high level of tennis, entertainment and spectacle. There is already a desire for tennis in Marbella,” said Albert Costa, tournament director and winner of the first tournament. The records and details of those taking part are very impressive, although this year former favourite John McEnroe will not be attending. Carlos Moyá returns to the capital of the Costa del Sol to revalidate his title after defeating a combative John McEnroe last year.
Some of the tennis greats return to Marbella Moya will not have anything easy. The Spaniard remains very fit to keep pace with Rafael Nadal, who trains with much of the year, but the competition is high in this edition. Ferrero is probably the toughest contender for the Mallorcan given his demonstrated skill on clay. To his credit he previously won the title at Roland Garros and the Valencian is very fit exercising as a coach of new stars in world tennis. His most recent pupil was the German Sasha Zverev. Spectacle and talent in its purest form will come from the hands of the Russian Marat Safin and the sometimes eccentric Croatian Goran Ivanisevic. For the third year, Albert Costa, who is the director of the tournament, Sebastien Grosjean and the charismatic Yannick Noah, return to the city
and once again the French tennis player will be the main musical entertainment on the Saturday night at the VIP Lounge where he will perform a concert in this exclusive social area of the event. As in previous years there is a wide variety of different prices with general admission costing €25 or €45 for both days. Preferential seats, which include access to a special zone with Open Bar, can be purchased for €80. VIP and Palco seats are also available with access to Open Bar, Premium dinner and tickets to the Yannick Noah concert. For more information contact info@seniormasterscup.com. By way of a change, this year the organisers have introduced changes in the usual schedule of the competition. On Thursday, September 27, there

will be a clinic that will allow children from municipal academies and tennis clubs in the area to rub shoulders with tennis figures on the court and the day will culminate in the official dinner of players where the attendance of prominent personalities of Marbella and the society of Malaga is expected. September is the Senior Masters Cup not just in Marbella but also outside the city. This is supported by its figures: more than 6,500 spectators at the last events, more than 93 million readers in the media and more than 700,000 hits on Social Media. Are you dirty? by David Hudson I MEAN your vehicle not you. Madrid in its campaign for a clean city has launched a roadside machine that instantly gauges the amount and type of smoke emitting from your exhaust and register the toxins. As you pass the monitor will light up with either a smiling green face which means you are clean or a red sad face that says you are dirty. At the moment this is to advise drivers of the condition of their vehicle but it is expected that when the trial is over then it will be used to monitor vehicles and fine or ban vehicles. This is like a sledge hammer to crack a nut because like all cities that are built in a valley with a river the natural weather pattern will cause a cloud of fog in the winter. In the 40’s and 50’s London suffered from smog a thick yellow acid killer fog that was so dense that when my wife’s suitcase burst open when getting off a bus at Crystal Palace she could not see what came out and had to feel to find them.
The solution was very simple because the smoke from house fires mixed with the fog produced the killer mixture. When coal fires were stopped the smog disappeared. The problem today is they dispel particles that sit about 30 feet above city streets with tall buildings and contain all toxins that build up. This has been known for decades and the answer would be to phase out diesel powered vehicles plus making the regular ITV test monitored and greater testing. But that is too simple. The Euro solution is to have electric vehicles. The problem is countries can hardly manage to meet electric demands now. Spain tries to meet extra demand by sun, wind and water while France is using nuclear power and the UK is still trying to find an answer. Ever since the combustible engine was invented companies have been

trying to produce an electric powered vehicle that competes with petrol engines. I remember the Co-op electric m i l k f l o a t s a n d t h e N o d d y Ve l o c e t e Police motorcycles. The electric motorcycle was good for sneaking up on suspects because you could not hear them approaching as I found out. But they did not last even though they were reliable because they did not use instant fuel. In the Euro’s enthusiasm for electric vehicle they do not have any commercially produced
vans, lorries, buses or motorcycles. The combustible engine is like the wheel, though people try really hard, nothing has replaced its versatility, off-road ability and can fill up in seconds as well as being able to carry additional supplies. Today Repsol has released an initiative with offering €400 of Auto gas GLP fuel if you convert your engine to take the GLP. The fuel meets the Euro minimum emissions as well as being cheaper and now Repsol are stocking it in most of their stations. This means that most of the vehicles on the road can be saved from what could be a massive problem for the future.
Bond beauty under the hammer AN Aston Martin used in the 1995 James Bond film Goldeneye could sell for between €1.37 and €1.83 million when auctioned in July. The Aston Martin DB5 will be sold by Bonhams, one of the world’s oldest auction houses founded in 1793. Pierce Brosnan raced the 1965 vehicle in one of the most famous Bond car chases. The drive-off sees the MI6 agent evade a Ferrari F355 driven by sexy assailant Xenia Onatopp along curvy Monaco mountain roads. “A Bond DB5 is surely the pinnacle of cinematic cars,” Bonham’s spokesperson Poppy McKenzie Smith said. Goldeneye is not generally remembered as the spy franchise’s finest but it is securely wedged in the imagination of 90s generation viewers. “This car captures the glamour, daring and quintessential Britishness of every-
J-TURN: Duchess to ditch carriage for evasive driving course.
BOND RECORD: onlookers eye-up Bond’s DB5. one’s favourite spy,” McKenzie Smith said. It holds the record for the most expensive James Bond memorabilia ever sold when auctioned off in 2001. Bonhams said it is “easy to see” why the car is so sought-after. Its spokesperson said the vehicle is a “truly beautiful machine in exemplary condition, and still capable of up to 150mph. “The DB5 is one of the most recognisable and evocative British classics in the world, and the links with Bond make this even more
special,” McKenzie Smith added. It is painted in classic Silver Birch colour and underneath sits a six-cylinder, 4.0litre engine generating 282bhp. Some argue it is one of the best-looking cars ever produced by a British manufacturer. It will be on show on June 1 and 2 at Bonhams’ Englefield House showroom in Berkshire and will be under the hammer at Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 13.
Duchess to drive like Bond
THE Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, will learn how to drive like James Bond as part of her Royal initiation. All members of the Royal Family have to be taught tactical and evasive driving techniques in case they need to escape an attack or a kidnapping attempt, former Met Police officer Mick Croome, told press. The skills would be used as a “last resort manoeuvre,” he added. And the new Duchess will learn a trick known as the J-turn, Croobre said. In the move, the driver reverses the car before spinning it around and speeding off in the other direction. The techniques she picks up could be vital. But the newly-wed’s 24-hour person-
al security team should mean they will not be needed, British media reports. Despite having personal drivers, the Royal Family has a history of getting behind the wheel. If the duchess follows suit, the skills may just come in handy, according to media. And the new royal couple have already shown a flare for fancy cars as they left their wedding in a specially converted 1968 Jaguar-E-Type. It had its straight-six engine replaced with a battery electric motor for the special day. Toby Grafftey-Smith, a Jamiroquai musician, owned the silver-blue coloured British classic before he died of cancer aged 46 last year, media said.
