Skate Plaza to be named after Spanish terror attack hero A DECISION has been made by the Fuengirola council to re-name the Skate Plaza after Spanish terror hero Ignacio Echeverría. Ana Mula, mayor of the town explained that this was an easy choice to make considering that the young man had sacrificed his life to protect others during the London Bridge terror attack in June of this year.
The idea is to give a very special meaning to the plaza and to recognise the unselfish bravery of the young Spaniard who was killed by terrorists. The 39-Year-old bank worker was walking with friends, carrying his skateboard when the terror attack took place on June 3 and he stopped to try to help a victim who was being attacked in the streets.
It is believed that he may have used his skateboard as a weapon to try to fight of the assailant but it was he who was stabbed and died on the street. “I’m convinced that Ignacio, who had been practicing skateboarding since childhood, would have liked this gesture. He was a hero and was always, always appreciated for his generosity “, said the mayor.
