SAVE OUR VENUES CAMPAIGN The collapse of several Sunshine Coast venues has sparked concern about the future of the region’s live music, entertainment and hospitality scene, prompting Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien MP to launch a community campaign – Save Our Venues. Closures including Solbar, The Station and Terella Brewing have rattled the sector and highlighted the financial and regulatory pressures facing local operators. Mr O’Brien said the closures were a “warning sign”, with businesses under pressure from rising costs, shrinking margins and growing red tape. He has
opened a month-long consultation to gather community feedback, saying the loss of venues is devastating and the impact extends well beyond the businesses themselves. “A thriving hospitality, entertainment and music scene is about far more than a few bars and stages – it’s part of the Sunshine Coast’s cultural identity,” said Mr O’Brien. “When venues close, we lose jobs, opportunities for local patrons, musicians and performers, and part of what makes this region such a vibrant place to live and visit.” As part of the campaign Mr O’Brien Cont. p3
