Liz Barclay is the Small Business Commissioner for the UK. She has a background in broadcasting and journalism specialising in small business, personal finance and consumer affairs and is author of several business books. She is also Chair of the Fair by Design Campaign (to tackle the poverty premium); and a non-executive Director of the Lending Standards Board and member of the Equity Release Council Standards Board.

Until she took up the role of SBC Liz was a Financial Inclusion commissioner, an Ambassador for Business Debtline, a member of the Fundraising Regulator Standards Board and ran BackinBusiness.org.uk to give small businesses a voice with policy makers. She works with Boards and small businesses on improving governance, trust and culture, inclusivity, employee engagement, and understanding customer behaviour. She is also a communication and presentation skills coach and chairs national and international conferences.

Uday Dholakia is an experienced Board member of regulatory bodies, with special and particular experience in simplifying and improving regulation. He champions the role of regulators along with the interests of business, consumers, employees and the environment. As an ardent advocate of Better Regulation, Uday is passionate about promoting the UK’s regulatory landscape, as UK PLC’s foremost unique selling proposition.

JUDGE

Uday brings a creative and dynamic experience as Non-Executive Director at CTSI, with a record of successfully delivering strategic planning and decision making, service delivery, change management, risk management and performance management. He has served at Board level in the regulatory functions of Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Electricity Distribution, Broadcasting, Policing, Planning, Aviation, better regulation at the Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO), and as lead Director on SME’s, European Commission and Diversity.

David Mendes da Costa is Principal Policy Manager at Citizens Advice and leads on consumer policy for the charity. Prior to working at Citizens Advice, David spent over eight years at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in a variety of policy roles across domestic, EU and global issues.

During that time, he had the opportunity to lead projects for the UK Debt Management Office and the Money & Pensions Service. More recently, he has focused on consumer credit and debt, and helped deliver the influential Woolard Review of Unsecured Credit.

JUDGE

Eleni has worked in Trading Standards and been a member of CTSI for 12 years. Her first role was as a consumer advisor, which provided an excellent grounding in all things Trading Standards.

In Eleni’s current job as an Enforcement Officer she gets to see first-hand the issues that affect consumers every day. Protecting consumers is at the forefront of what Trading Standards do, and Eleni is very proud to be a part of a profession that champions this and recognises the important work of others.
