CROWN TINTED GREEN: SERPENTS UNBEATABLE AS SCF CHAMPS Nicole P. Relativo

ollege of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM) secured its sixth championship title in the Annual Collegiate Sports and Cultural Festival, held October 24-26, 2023.

After bagging gold in three major and three minor events, the CITHM Green Serpents continued its five-year legacy, emerging as champions for the sixth consecutive year in SCF 2023.

The department immediately established itself at the top of the leaderboard during the first day, as they claimed the first victory of the event in the bench yell competition. The overwhelming cheer heralded further triumphs as the Serpents successfully maintained its reign in volleyball women’s division and avenged last year’s loss in basketball against the Lynx in the following days.

Even prior to the event, players and coaches alike have expressed their confidence to once again dominate the competitions as they train intensively and apply various techniques.

“A week before the SCF, I had so much ‘what ifs’ in my mind, but

I don’t let my mind and emotions take away my dedication, eagerness and goal to continue our legacy. I just gave my 101% support and trust to our players and representatives,” Governor Aries Sinag tells The E as he admits to the pressure of continuing the department’s streak of victory.

He highlighted teamwork, passion, perseverance, and the unwavering support of the entire department as the key to the Serpent’s success.

“We achieved this remarkable feat with our unity, dedication, and unwavering spirit. I believe those characteristics are the most important foundation in achieving the success that we are aiming for. Thank you to all CITHM students, players, officers, and professors as we successfully manifest those characteristics and we were able to achieve this victory with pride and happiness,” Sinag added.

The Serpents outmaneuvered the first runner-up CTELA-CNAHS Blue Wolves, second runner-up CCST Red Hawks, and third runner-up CBA Golden Lynx to cement their legacy as long-time reigning champs in MSEUF-CI’s sport and culture history.

nvergistas’ cheers and rumbles echoed in the EUC Gymnasium, on the morning of October 24, 2023, Tuesday, as the annual Collegiate Sports and Cultural Festival 2023, themed “Unleashing the Envergan Spirit: EU are the Miracle,” began.

College students, athletes, and faculty members woke up the university with their cheers as they paraded from the quadrangle to the gymnasium, taking pride in their respective color organizations, ready to indulge in this year’s wild bout for supremacy.

This year, the teams competing are the Blue Wolves - the combined colleges of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, Teacher Education and Liberal Arts; the Golden Lynx, the joint colleges of Business Administration and Accountancy; the Red Hawks, the united colleges of Computer Studies and Computer Engineering; and the Green Serpents of the college of International Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Added to the festival’s grandeur are the remarks of key individuals towards the festival’s realization. Mrs. Elenita Marquez, EUC’s Sports and Cultural Coordinator, voiced an optimistic opening statement, emphasizing that each participant is a winner in their own way. Mr. Gaspar Hector Tapire, the Administrative Officer, delivered a powerful message, encouraging everyone to leave it all on the field and appreciate the exceptional talent within the EUC community. Dr. Crystal Quintana, Dean of Studies, then reminded everyone of the importance of events like this which encourage excellence in all aspects of university life.

The traditional raising of pennants, led by the muses and escorts of each color

organization, built up students’ excitement toward the commencement of the festival. Blue wolves finished first, followed by Green Serpents in second, Golden Lynx in third, and Red Hawks in fourth. The Department Heads of each color organization then release the color balloons, with Blue Wolves landing in first, followed by Red Hawks in second, Golden Lynx in third, and Green Serpents in fourth.

The torch lighting ceremony led by selected cluster and regional PRISAA delegates Glenn Umali, Angelo Fule, Crisjohn Laylo and Disa France Celemin, ignited Envergistas excitement toward the events. Celemin, chess delegate for Regional PRISAA 2023, then led the oath of amateurism of the players.

Dr. Quintana officially declared the commencement of the festival, paving the way for thrilling sporting events and cultural showcases.

CITHM Green Serpents bags the first win of the day in the Bench Yell Competition, CTELACHNAHS Blue Wolves hails first, CCST Red Hawks being third, and CBA Golden Lynx placing fourth. Afterwards, a spontaneous dance showdown was also held in which Marjorie Villanueva of CBA Golden Lynx emerged victorious.

The EUC Jaguars kicked off the Sportsfest Spectacle with a roaring triumph, ensuring that the three-day annual Collegiate Sports and Cultural Festival is a phenomenal chapter in Enverga University Candelaria’s history.

GREEN SERPENTS DETHRONE GOLDEN LYNX AS THE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS

wice rivals, Green Serpents and Golden Lynx rematched in the same court. With seemingly turns of table the Serpents ultimately defeat the Lynx and seize the title of Basketball Champions during the final game for SCF ‘23, October 24th at the EUC Gymnasium.

Former basketball finalists and rivals, CBA Golden Lynx and CITHM Green serpents’ filled the EUC Gymnasium with burning desires to triumph as they shot their fate towards victory in the first match of this year’s basketball tournament.

Audience roared for both departments’ teams as they scored one after the other. The match ended with a close score of 46-50 with Green Serpents showing their superiority over the Golden Lynx. Not long after, the second game commenced where the Red Hawks soared to victory against the Blue Wolves at 49-34. The third game of the day is a win-to-win match between the Green Serpents and Red Hawks, where the former achieved a second consecutive triumph as they defeated the Hawks with their poisonous strategies. Determined to recover from initial loss, the Lynx concluded Day 1 with a victory against the Wolves in their lose-to-lose match.

During the second day of the SCF23, the basketball match commenced with a game between the Golden Lynx and the Red Hawk, both vying for a spot in the championship. The Golden Lynx showed their remarkable skills and secured the championship by earning a score of 58-64. Subsequently, the most awaited

championship game has begun with the Green Serpents against the Golden Lynx. The game proved to be fiercely competitive, with each team resolutely focused on achieving the title of this year’s champions. The Green Serpents maintained a lead throughout the quarter with the scores of 12-20, 30-32, 42-47, and 58-64 making them the SCF23 Basketball Champions.

The conclusion of the basketball championship game marked the triumphant victory of the Green Serpents, showcasing their exceptional skill and determination as they outplayed the formidable Golden Lynx.

The tense battle left a lasting impression on the competition, securing the Green Serpents’ rightful reign as winners and exemplifying the spirit of sportsmanship and competitive excellence.

In the end, CITHM Green Serpents clinched the first place, followed by the CBA Golden Lynx, CCST Red Hawks landed in third, and CTELA-CNAHS in fourth. Additionally, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the Mythical Five are announced, with Justine Montecer of the Green Serpents recognized as the Basketball MVP. His teammates Lorenz Ken Javier and John Glen Umali, Karl Darren Gonzales of Red Hawks, Aivan Orense and Mark Joshua Casaldan of Golden Lynx, are named as the Mythical Five.

GOLDEN LYNX SPIKERS TAMED BLUE WOLVES: SEIZE VICTORY IN MEN’S VOLLEYBALL John Andrew A. Mendoza

T

he CBA Golden Lynx completed their vengeance in the volleyball men’s division as they dethroned the CTELA-CNAHS Blue Wolves during the final championship game at the EUC Quadrangle, October 26.

After a heartbreaking runner-up finish last SCF2022, Golden Lynx ended the Blue Wolves’ reign, clinching the championship title with a two set against one winning record.

Impressive offense, unpredictable drop balls, aggressive serves, and on-spot blocks gave the Golden Lynx led by the “Lacdao Brothers”, Joseph and Bernard Lacdao, total dominance after sweeping all teams, getting a twice-to-beat advantage and a championship round spot.

The Blue Wolves and Golden Lynx are locked in a tense struggle in the opening nervewracking set, with a score of 10-10. However, Francisco Ramos was able to set the ball with ease and give the Blue Wolves an 8-point cushion by dint of Angelo Fule’s clutch cross-court spikes and the team’s strong reception. With a 25-16 record, the Blue Wolves kept up their lead until the very end of set 1.

In the second set, things took a different turn when the Golden Lynx managed to establish an 11-point cushion. The Golden Lynx easily won the second set with a score of 25 against 11, outplaying the Blue Wolves, who struggled to receive and committed numerous errors, mainly due to Bernard Lacdao’s off-theblock spikes and Joseph Lacdao’s aggressive serves.

The Golden Lynx kept up their momentum in the opening part of the third set, making it the match’s decisive set. The Golden Lynx were able to establish a 5-point lead, but the Blue Wolves were almost able to tie the match

late in the third set due to a 4-0 run courtesy of Fule’s clutch, demonstrating why his team is the defending champion. When the score reached 1413, the game became more tense, but the Blue Wolves were unsuccessful

“Naniniwala po ako na walang sikreto sa aming pagkapanalo at pagkuha namin sa championship. Pero in terms of advantage, ang naging lamang ng CBA men’s volleyball ay ang aming puso. Una, kapag gumagawa tayo ng bagay na ating gusto at sinamahan pa ito ng puso, makukuha natin ang ating pinakamimithing panalo. Pangalawa, ginamit po namin lahat ng aming experiences at failures, hindi namin hinayaan na maging dahilan ito para hindi namin makuha ang aming goal which is makuha ang gold medal this year. We’ve been through in this exactly same situation last sportsfest kung saan nasa amin ang twice-to-beat advantage sa championship pero nabigo pa rin kaming kuhanin. Pangatlo, naniniwala ako na ibinigay talaga ito ni Lord para sa amin, sa lahat ng pinagdaanan ng aming team, walang imposible sa Kanya.”

Joseph Lacdao expressed in an interview about the secret of this comeback win against their arch-rival, the Blue Wolves, in the championship round. He also expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of the College of Business and Accountancy headed by Mrs. Elocel Delgado, together with their faculty coach Mrs. Rosana Jimenez, and DSC Governor and coplayer, Gerald Eslita.

Following the conclusion of the match, CTELA-CNAHS Blue Wolves followed the claw of CBA Golden Lynx as first, CITHM Green Serpents in second, and CCST Red Hawks in third. Lynx’s remarkable captain, Joseph Lacdao, was then named the Most Valuable Player. The mythical six in the men’s division were declared to be Gerald Eslita, Joseph Lacdao, Francisco Ramos, Angelo Fule, John Dino Marquez, and Mark Perez.

ITHM Green Serpents’ crown remains untouchable as they battled against Blue Wolves on the championship title for Volleyball Women’s Division held at the EUC Gymnasium, October 25.

Facing each other once again in the finals, CITHM Green Serpents continuously dismayed the Blue Wolves as they won 2 sets out of 3 in the championship game of Women’s Volleyball giving the CTELA-CNAHS Blue Wolves their first spot. CCST Red Hawks secured the second spot and CBA Golden Lynx in the third spot.

The women’s volleyball team from the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management clutched the volleyball girls division championship title against the joined forces of women’s volleyball team from College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts and College of Nursing and Allied Health Services. With the powerful attacks, serves, offenses, unexpected drop balls, and a synergy of defenses, led by Katherine Atienza, the Green Serpents dominated the volleyball game scoring: 22-25, 25-17, and 15-11, in the annual Collegiate Sports and Cultural Festival 2023 Volleyball Event.

When asked about the secret of her team in winning the championship, Atienza refers to their teamwork. “Hindi naman namin makukuha ang Championship kung hindi kami nagtutulungan. Nagkaroon din kami ng training sa school and nag-ensayo din talaga kahit nasa bahay lang. Unexpected pa rin na kami ang nagchampion dahil hindi naman namin ikakaila na malakas at madepensa rin ang nakalaban namin. Ginamitan lang talaga namin ng pagkakaisa at maraming dasal.”

Conclusively, Atienza of CITHM Green Serpents is hailed as the SCF23 Women’s Volleyball MVP. Dheyniel Anne Zoleta from CCST Department, Bea Quarto and Jade Sugay from CTELA-CNAHS Department, Beatrix Faye Robles, Regine Tumacas and Jessica Lanete from CITHM Department were the SCF23 Women’s Volleyball Mythical Six.

MEN’S DIVISION: SINGLE A

Fiercely represented by Lorenzo Pakingan, the Green Serpents snagged the championship title from all his games with his overwhelming skills and tenacity, victory after victory.

In the first game, Pakingan defeated Golden Lynx player John Harry Dave, in a fast-paced and action-packed exchange of smashes. Attacks were served back and forth, leaving no corners unguarded with his exceptional techniques in smashes and returns.

The second game had Pakingan battling out with Red Hawks hitter Seth Dizon in a back and forth exchange of offense and defense. The serpent secured his win after defeating the hawk in quick and intense battles. The match was a thrill to behold, with both players giving their all and pushing each other to the brink, the execution of their shots and court awareness on full display throughout the matches.

After the Green Serpents, the first place is taken

In his second game, that being the championship round against the Green Serpents’ Daniel Mathew Lumbres, he once again took the win for 3 sets straight. Despite the game being a decisive round for the championship title, both players showcased lighthearted banter and powerful hits simultaneously. Red Hawks’ Ojo never let up with his offense, delivering hit after hit in quick rallies and fast-paced exchanges. The momentum of the games eventually delivered the championship that the hawk had been eyeing for.

When asked about his experience during the games, Ojo said, “Masaya syempre, dahil nai-represent ko yung department namin at saka marami rin akong mga b a g o n g nakilala na naglalaro rin ng favorite sport ko.

Noong championship game medyo naging masaya dahil medyo mabiro nakatapat ko kaya mas naging enjoyable din yung game namin.”

He also expresses in the same interview that he attributes his success in the table tennis games to the years of experience he attained.

Laylo stated. Furthermore, he expressed his joy in their championship with his partner Licuanan, saying that their rigorous training is worth it.

Licuanan expressed his sentiments about their success in snatching the championship crown, saying, “Masaya kasi nakabawi na ako sa nangyari last year.” He is pertaining to his unfortunate loss in the previous year’s Sports and Cultural Fest where he participated as a player in the Single B category, being attributed to the sole of his shoe giving out and consequently throwing off his game. However, this year’s smashing victory seemed to be proof that God has better plans for Licuanan— including his partner Laylo.

The Red Hawks’ dynamic duo also refers to teamwork, coordination, and communication as the most important factors that made their success possible.

With Red Hawks Laylo and Licuanan clutching gold, they stand as victors of the men’s table tennis doubles category. The Green Serpents’ Clarence Quilantang and Justin Villanueva rank first, followed by the Golden Lynx’s Renz Aljenson Caringal and Lloyd Lontoc in second, and Blue Wolves’ Jhino De Guia and Jahnsen Domingo in third place.

Meanwhile, Frances Catipon of Green Serpents joined her in the final match by conquering Trisha Mae De Mesa of Golden Lynx.

With her tenacity and paddle skills, the unmatched paddler Barraca claimed the victory against the Green Serpents with a 3-0 standing. Barraca was also the defending champion of the Sportsfest 2022 Table Tennis Women’s Division Single B. Barraca solidifies her strength and wit in the field of Table Tennis.

As Red Hawks secured the first place, the Green Serpents, Blue Wolves, and Golden Lynx concluded as second, third, and fourth, respectively.

In her first match, Sazon proves the deftness of a reigning champion as she showcases her mastery on table tennis. Sazon drives the ball to defeat Marjorie Villanueva of the Golden Lynx, with a score of 3-0 to advance to the championship round.

Meanwhile, on the opposite end of the court, Red Hawk’s Zyn Karol Leal utilized deft strategies to sidespin Eddah Kimberly Bataller of the Blue Wolves, winning 3-0 in favor of the hawks.

At the championship round, Green Serpents Sazon continued her legacy as she secured her crown as the defending champion for Sports and Cultural Fest 2022 Table Tennis Single A, Women’s division. Sazon clinched this year’s championship title with a flawless smash, scoring 3-0 against the Red Hawks. Furthermore, the Red Hawks, Golden Lynx, and Blue Wolves finished off as the second, third, and fourth consecutively.

he court echoed with the rhythmic thud of rackets and the swift whoosh of shuttlecocks, as CITHM Green Serpents, CTELA-CNAHS Blue Wolves, and CCST Red Hawks claimed Men’s Badminton championship tilt, October 25.

MEN’S DIVISION: SINGLE A Ian Roy Andal of the Green Serpent shows unparalleled agility and strategic prowess, opposing Vien Pitahin of the Red Hawks in the Single A Category. he racquet rivalry of the four color organizations ended after Blue Wolves and Red Hawk came out on top and secured victory at the Women’s Badminton Championship, held on October 25, 2023 at EUC gymnasium.

Queenalen Manongsong of Blue Wolves out smashed Kristine Laylo of Green Serpents in a three-set badminton bout. The clash for the Women’s Single A championship proved unpredictable as fierce competitors took turns with the lead.

Blue Wolves’ Manongsong strike points through heavy blows that shattered the Green Serpents defense.

Strikes after strikes, Blue Wolves harvested the first set triumph with the close score of 21-19. Keeping the defense alive, Green Serpents seized the court in the second set of the game, 21-17. Meanwhile, Golden Lynx and Red hawks also seized the chance to set the court ablaze in the Single B Category. Red Hawks Lady Smasher Jane Ramos battles Golden Lynx Alhlaiza Shyne Alvarez for the championship title after successfully defeating their respective opponents in the elimination rounds.

The duel between the two smashers intensifies as they both gear up for the final match. Ramos from the CCST Department secured the first set of the finals with a narrow four-point lead at 21-17. Alvarez’s defense and agility pushed for a closer score gap in the second set, but proved barely short against the strong and sharp blows of Ramos. The latter further established her dominance upon ruling the badminton court with a final score of 21-18.

Cielo Pagkaliwagan and Michelle Sarmiento of CTELA-CNAHS Blue Wolves secured their comeback victory in the Women’s Badminton Doubles Category after defeating their opponents Ayessa Mae Cadacio and Ivy Shane Mangubat of the CITHM Green Serpents.

The pairs exchanged heavy and intense blows, ending the first set with a score of 21-7 in favor of the wolves. The second set witnessed crossout attacks from the leading duo until the Pagkaliwagan-Sarmiento tandem was declared victors with a final score, 21-11.

While other color organizations tried their best to serve strong attacks and build tough defenses, the Pagkaliwagan-Sarmiento duo demonstrated their synergy’s toughness and expertise in racket games. he freshmen of CBA Golden Lynx dominated SCF23 Sepak Takraw bout as they extinguished the senior CCST Red Hawks despite Hawks twice-to-beat advantage in the championship games, October 25.

The burning spirit of the Lynx ST team, composed of freshmen, John Lloyd Salas, Niño Kherby Galeon, Justine Cagas, and Jefferson Cueto fueled the team’s spikes and kicks, dethroning the Hawks as former ST Champions.

With the Lynx’s overwhelming win against Green Serpents in an intense two sets play.

Twice rivals, Hawks and Lynx meet again on the same field, with hawks once again having the upper hand with an undefeated streak in its first two games which advanced them to the championship.

In a thrilling sepak takraw clash between the Lynx and Hawks, standout moments included the Lynx’s dominance in the first game with a solid 21–14 victory. The second set added intense excitement as the Hawks fought back fiercely, narrowly securing it at 22–23. The Lynx, however, showcased their resilience, clinching the third set 15–13. The Hawks rallied back in

the fourth set, winning 7–21, setting the stage for an epic final set. The highlight came in the last set, where the Lynx sealed their triumph with a breathtaking 21–23 win, securing a memorable victory and claiming their championship title.

“We don’t expect na makakarating kami sa ganoong stage dahil nga sa reason na puro high year level ang makakatapat namin. Iba rin kasi para sa’kin at pati na rin sa aking mga teammates yung pressure na naramdaman dahil dito naglagay nalang kami sa aming sarili ng excitement at joy, at mas ibinigay ang pressure sa kalaban. Through pure dedication, hardwork, and efforts, the Green Serpents’ undaunted strategist Rommel Pantoja secured the gold medal for the male division of chess.

“My goal is to win talaga, yun lang palagi nasa isip ko whenever I play. Pero in order to do that, syempre you must work hard for it. You must study your moves, understand its principles and make sure aware ka din sa mga tinitira o ginagawa ng kalaban.” said Pantoja.

With this thought in his mind during the competition, the road to a gold medal is a linear direction for him to ultimately manipulate the pieces to his advancement to victory.

“The most important thing to remember when playing chess is that you must always find the best move to win against your opponent/s.”

One of the highlights of the game on men’s chess was the draw between Pantoja and Abraham Angelo Perez of Red Hawks.

The intense quiet match between two resolute players concluded as they come into an agreement to let the game draw for their constant attempts to defend their pieces had put them in an unorthodox position where all their moves would simply end in a redundant manner. This match only demonstrated the

unparalleled professionalism and sportsmanship of two outstanding players who are adept at both determining the outcome and masterfully defending their pieces.

In spite of the fact that he finished the game with 1 draw, Pantoja retained his momentum as a spirited player and strategically dominated the 5 rounds with a score of 4.5.

“During the competition, there’s this one athlete na talagang alam ko na magiging hindrance sa pagkapanalo ko. Champion kase siya last year sportsfest and nag-regional siya this year. Pero through preparation, na outsmart ko siya and naging patient din ako during our game. Kaya another thing to remember when playing chess is you must be patient din, kase napakalaking factor noon sa pagkapanalo.” said Pantoja.

With this, the result concluded with Abraham Angelo Perez of CCST Red Hawks bagging the 2nd place, and Chrisjohn Laylo of Golden Lynx CBA for 3rd place.

WOMEN’S DIVISION With unmatched maneuver, the unvanquished Disa France Celemin of the female chess division calmly scored points to capture the gold medal for CBA Golden Lynx.

Being the last year’s reigning champion, the pressure was on for Celemin as she stood her ground and proved her prowess on how she commands the war on the boards.

Calm, focused, and deliberate advancement of pieces was one of the strategies that Celemin distinctly displayed during her plays.

“Nababasa ko yung magiging move ng kalaban ko kapag malapit na sa middle game kasi madalas ay may pattern sila na sinusunod dito para makatakes sila ng piece or makamate” said Celemin.

Despite being queenless in the last round, she tactically handled the situation unabashed and secured the 5 win streak with unwavering dominance.

One of the highlights of the SCF23 chess tournament was the 4-move win of Shaira Magtibay from CTELA-CNAHS. The tension of silence was broken down when the game had already ended after a few seconds of its commencement.

In the end, Reinne Anne Belmonte of the CCST Red Hawks and Nycer Nasher Portos of the CTELA-CNAHS Blue Wolves ultimately took second and third place, respectively.

CRIMSON WINGED PREDATORS REIGNED LEGENDARY ON MOBILE LEGENDS TOURNAMENT

A

fter a series of intense MLBB matchups, CCST Red Hawks were able to defend their title as the Champion of the tournament after sweeping the Green Serpents of the CITHM Department, October 25.

During the preliminary rounds, the Blue Wolves, Golden Lynx, Green Serpents and Red Hawks underwent into a round robin series in which each team should play against every other team in order to determine the rankings which will decide the playoffs’ brackets—the ranked 1st and 2nd teams will advance to the championship while the ranked 3rd and 4th teams will battle for the bronze.

Interestingly, after the 4th match of the series, the CITHM and the CCST representatives tied at 1st and 2nd spots, both scoring 2-0. On the other hand, the CTELA/CNAHS and the CBA were also tied at 3rd and 4th spots, both scoring 0-2. The remaining matches for the preliminary round were also between the tied teams.

Given the scenario, the facilitator decided to go straight to the playoffs round wherein the Hawks bagged the gold at the cost of the Serpents. Meanwhile, the Lynx secured the bronze medal after defeating the Wolves who fell in 4th place.

The vocal powerhouse of Golden Lynx, Marianne Matugas showcased her aweinspiring skills in flawlessly executing her rendition of Regine Velasquez’s classic “Pangarap Ko ang Ibigin Ka.” Her clear pronunciation and projection of the lyrics, stability in singing the right notes, as well as her breathtaking stage

Matugas did well in sustaining the flow of her performance by properly pacing herself.

Being the first to perform her piece did not deter her from performing as splendidly as she could. It showed her years of experience and training, being able to confidently outperform the representatives of the other departments.

midst a crescendo of remarkable vocal performances, the CTELA-CNAHS Blue Wolves Duet Ma. Theresa Marquez and Reynaldo Garcia emerged triumphant in a harmonious vocal duet competition at SCF23.

The final day of the Sports and Cultural Festival featured the various cultural competitions that exhibited the musical prowess of the Jaguars. To impress audience and judges alike, vocal duet participants trained relentlessly days prior to the event. Their aim is to give justice to chosen song covers through eloquent story-telling.

The sweet-sounding performances of the four department organizations delivered at the EUC Gymnasium were a mesmerizing display of musical skill and synergy, demonstrating the power of harmonious collaboration, hiding amid the throb of spectacular passion.

With the seamless connection, synchronization, and a keen awareness of the subtleties of their companion, Blue wolves truly sees triumph in their rendition of “Makita Kang Muli ‘’ by Sugarfree, an OPM song about longing and persistent love. The pair successfully conveyed the raw emotions of the song through voice and body language alike.

n October 26th, the grand finale of the three-day Sports and Cultural Festival 2023 at the EUC Gymnasium witnessed the crowning of Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest champions, Ellaquim Dave Berredo and Eunice Cabatian.

The Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest competition is a long-standing tradition held on the concluding day of the EUC Sportsfest. This event features eight confident candidates from different color organizations, gracing the stage and participating in a Q&A segment to determine who was deserving of the coveted title. In the end, both candidates from the Golden Lynx who displayed their beauty and wit, secured the coveted titles.

Mr. Sportsfest 2023, Ellaquim Berredo, expressed a mix of joy and surprise at winning the title and conveyed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from his department.

He happily shared, “Masaya ako na natanghal na Mr. Sportsfest 2023 dahil nakita ko ang pagkatuwa ng mga ka-department ko pati na rin ng ibang sumuporta at naniwala sa amin.”

Ms. Sportsfest 2023, Eunice Cabatian, also revealed the nerves she felt during the competition, acknowledging the exceptional beauty and impact of her fellow contestants.

She stated, “I was so happy at that time dahil nagkaroon pa ‘ko ng magandang memories ngayong last year ko na sa Enverga.” She knew that she gave her best, not just for herself but for the entire CBA department.

he show stopping CTELA-CNAHS’s Standard Dance pair, Joshua Andal and Glaiza Camille Magnaye, and CITHM’s iconic Latin Dance couple, Kimson De la Vega and Khim Tibayan, won the battle of groove and grace during the Dancesports competition as part of the recent Sports and Cultural Fest 2023, 26th of October, at EUC Gymnasium.

Hosted by the SSC Officers, the awaited final event of the SCF ‘23, Dancesports Competition, commends the immense dancing skills of College Envergistas as they represent their prominent color organizations in the category of dance. The program began with a well-applauded parade of two pairs competing for Latin and Standard dances, from the CTELACNAHS Blue Wolves and CITHM Green Serpents.

Two contenders for the Standard Dance competition had the opportunity to take turns in owning the centerstage as they performed one dance after another before proceeding to the final showdown, consisting of three dances: Waltz, Tango, and Quick-Step.

Competitions did not end with thrilling performances for the first category as the Latin Dance competition cues the crowd with their exhibition dance and final showdown. Both couples own their spotlight on the dancefloor as they showcase their flicks, twirls, and dynamics in their showdown dances: Cha-Cha, Rumba, and Jive.

This is exemplified on the recently conducted Sports and Cultural Festival wherein officers from CITHM, CTELA, CNAHS, CCST, and CBA poured tremendous effort to assist the Supreme Student Council in organizing the event

and the participants from their department in their respective competitions.

The DSC officers are well aware that planning is the cornerstone of any successful event. They begin idea generation, goal setting, and thorough planning weeks in advance of SCF23. To guarantee maximum participation, much attention is taken in selecting the event’s date, venue, and timetable. A well-considered budget is created, accounting for expenses related to venue rental, supplies, awards, and refreshments.

A successful Sportsfest event is the product of DSC officials working together as a team, not of individual efforts. These committed leaders collaborate closely with instructors, coaches, and volunteers to make sure every part of the event goes off without a hitch. They delegate particular tasks such as registration, security, publicity, and logistics, to various committees and members. Collaboration and efficient communication are essential to the event’s success.

A significant part of a student’s academic journey is their involvement in extracurricular activities. These activities, organized by various student groups and associations, not only promote personal growth but also foster a sense of community and unity among students.

Nuisances Behind the Success of SCF ‘23

hile the university found the event to be successful, various sports including sepak takraw, basketball, and mobile legends, encountered nuisances during the commencement of Annual Sports and Cultural Festival 2023.

The recently elected officers of the Supreme Student Council appears to fill the gap in the leadership of the previous administration.

They have shown their ability to serve the student body while upholding the bare minimum requirements of being a student leader. The Sports and Cultural Festival 2023 served as their second official event after the Teacher’s Day celebration in October 2023. It was given that the three-day sports and cultural event would not be easily prepared for, as they will be the one who will be accountable to the failure and success of the event. However, as they promise to assure a fair and healthy competition among the students, they were also expected to be the voice for those who fought fairly. Though they oath to fulfill their duties to the best of their abilities, there have been some inadequacies on the part of the student leaders.

Among the major concerns during this annual celebration was the incident involving the forfeited game in Sepak Takraw. During the play of CITHM Green Serpents and the CTELACNAHS Blue Wolves, although the Serpents forfeited the game in its second quarter, they were declared as winners of the game.

According to a source, the Green Serpents dominated the first quarter and, with a 5-0 lead going into the second quarter, their team chose to concede because they lacked some players. Although their scores may make it seem reasonable, it is a general rule of thumb that a team that concedes or forfeits is deemed to have lost the game. The Supreme Student Council, however, doesn’t seem to anticipate this circumstance to happen, thus it was not addressed properly with appropriate rules and regulations.

This led to a delay and inconvenience when the game failed to commence at the time originally scheduled. In addition to insufficient guidelines, noncompliance was also observed.

“No coach, no play” with the sanction of tenpoint deduction in case of violation was one of the student council’s general rules, but this was infringed upon during the competition.

Lastly, the CBA Golden Lynx complained about their short fifteen-minute break in between their two major games during the most-awaited basketball championship. They had only fifteen minutes of rest after defeating the CCST Red Hawks in the semifinals and before competing against the CITHM Green Serpents in the championship game shortly afterwards. Given that CBA Golden Lynx were the defending basketball champions of Sports Fest 2022, it is possible that this concern had an impact on their performance in this year’s championship game where CITHM Green Serpents seized the coveted title.

Nevertheless, the student council took accountability of their shortcomings and deficiencies in this year’s Sports Fest celebration. They saw this as an opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses to better improve their future plans for the institution.

Even though unanticipated conflicts do arise, they learned from this experience to improve as a team. They acknowledged the essence of establishing appropriate guidelines and ensuring strict compliance to prevent ambiguity and confusion on their upcoming events. These student leaders want to serve as the best example of good leadership and camaraderie among the student body. Neither faultless leaders nor projects exist in this world, but being receptive to feedback regarding their manner of leadership helps them become more adept student leaders who constantly strive for improvement and learning.
