Activists mourn with family of Dominique Mulkey, a Black man fatally shot by Tampa police officers.

acial justice activists led a march and vigil on 50th Street Friday evening for Dominique Mulkey, a 26-year-old Black man who was fatally shot by two Tampa police officers last Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, after robbing a nearby Dollar General store while armed. Community allies and members of the local Black Collective Movement (BCM), who have led several Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death this past May, joined Mulkey’s family in marching to the Dollar General store—located at 3110 N. 50th St. in the Highland Pines neighborhood—and holding a vigil at the site where Mulkey was fatally shot. “All Black lives matter,” said K.D., an organizer with BCM Tampa. “A Black person that is a criminal matters… a Black person does not have to be perfect to not die at the hands of a police officer.” Mulkey’s family members—including several of his siblings, a brother-in-law, his foster mother, and stepfather—attended and spoke of their late loved one. “He died trying to get food,” said Mulkey’s mother, referring to the black trash bag of dollar store merchandise Mulkey had stolen shortly before his death, which included a box of CheezIts and a bag of Ruffles potato chips. Early that morning, at a press conference outside TPD’s third precinct, his mother explained that Mulkey had been in foster care, and that if she knew he was hungry there, she would have taken him out of the home immediately. With tears running down her cheeks on Friday night at the vigil, her voice broke. “I can’t blame nobody but myself,” Mulkey’s mother told the crowd, her face drawn. Immediately the crowd responded,“No.” Several people spoke. “Your baby was not a criminal,” one of the crowd members told her. “I don’t give a damn what anyone says. You are not to blame for them [Tampa police] taking his life.” Mulkey’s stepfather, Robert Smith, spoke at the site where his stepson was shot, five blocks from the Dollar General. Motioning towards the fence, Smith pointed towards the bullet holes,

and towards the homes behind them, which laid the backdrop of where the fatal shooting occurred. “Kids could have been out here. Anybody could have been out here.” During the morning press conference, local civil rights activist Michelle Williams also noted the sloppiness of the police who opened fire and unleashed bullets upon Mulkey and the homes behind him. Not only did Tampa police fire over 30 shots at Mulkey, who died that same day of his injuries, but they also wreaked property damage, an expense and trauma that pales in comparison to the loss of a man’s life, but nonetheless further burdens the community Mulkey leaves behind. “Our bodies are not expendable,” K.D. told the crowd of community allies. “Black bodies are not expendable.” The crowd lit candles at the site of the shooting. Several marchers led prayers. “Please use this time to cherish one another.” As the evening wind blew out the lit candles, and the sky darkened, Mulkey’s family thanked the community for coming out to hear them speak of their late loved one, and to light candles in honor of his life. “You never think this will happen to you,” spoke one of Mulkey’s sisters. Minutes before he was shot to death, Mulkey had been identified as an armed suspect from a Dollar General robbery. The officers, one of whom was wearing an activated body camera, encountered Mulkey five blocks away from the store, on 50th Street. “The Tampa Police Department murdered a man today,” one Tampa activist shared Tuesday on social media following initial reporting. “They murdered this black man with mental health issues over a bag of chips.” Video footage from the store, acquired and shared by the Tampa Police Department, shows Mulkey stuffing a black trash bag with store merchandise, later identified as various snack items. When store clerks took the bag away from Mulkey, he pulled out a handgun. The store clerks called 911, and Mulkey fled the store with the bag on foot.

His family also confirmed that Mulkey had a history of mental health issues, which the police officers were not aware of when responding to the initial 911 call. “He doesn’t have the cognitive thought to say, well okay, I’m gonna run with the gun in my hand. He doesn’t have that,” Mulkey’s stepfather, Robert Smith, told WFLA last week. Body cam video from the incident shows the officers opening fire, with at least one of the officers’ rounds striking Mulkey.

Chief Dugan, who spoke to the press shortly after the shooting, reported that Mulkey was then transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. According to Dugan—who’s been criticized in recent months for statements he’s made regarding Black Lives Matter protestors—one of the officers who shot Mulkey is a 25-year veteran of the police department, and the other a 24-year old with two years of experience on the force. As reported by the Tampa Bay Times, the officers involved have invoked Marsy’s Law—a victims protection amendment to the Florida constitution—to prevent their names from being released to the public, on the basis that Mulkey had pointed his gun at the officers prior to their opening fire, thus legally qualifying them victimhood. Police argue that video from one of the officers’ bodycams shows Mulkey “pointed/raised his gun at” the officers. TPD spokesperson Jamel Laneè told the Times that when that happened, “[officers] became victims of aggravated assault with a firearm.” Williams, however, disputes this claim, and asserts that the acquired footage from both the body-worn camera and Dollar General showed that Mulkey had not pointed his gun at the police officers, nor the store clerks. Nor was Mulkey violent, despite the evident threat posed by the firearm. “The officers are physically okay. I can tell you emotionally, they’re upset,” Dugan told reporters in the aftermath of the shooting.

“We had two officers who went through a very traumatic event,” he told press later that afternoon. “We have someone who has died. We had innocent store clerks and customers there. And now we have families that have to put the pieces back together.” Tuesday’s dollar store robbery was not Mulkey’s first encounter with the law. According to court records acquired by WFLA, Mulkey had two previous misdemeanor charges for petty theft and trespass for an attempted robbery of a nearby dollar store. As voiced by his family, Mulkey had unresolved mental health issues and was unable to access care for his disability. The Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities confirmed to WFLA that the agency had not had contact with Mulkey following his prior encounters with the law. The fatal shooting of Mulkey by Tampa police has caught the attention not only of locals, but also national news outlets and police reform activists across the country. They/ Them Collective, an activist group based in Washington D.C., shared that they would be holding a protest in honor of Mulkey. Mulkey’s family and activists who organized the vigil Friday evening confirmed the family would try to get a GoFundMe online in

next week or two to cover funeral expenses and related costs. In a statement released on the afternoon Mulkey was shot, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said, “This is a difficult day for all involved.” “My thoughts are with the family who lost a loved one under tragic circumstances, with the officers who were put into a position that required them to use deadly force, and the innocent store employees who were traumatized by this incident. The officers took actions today to protect our community," Castor added. "Now, FDLE will conduct an independent investigation as part of a new process that ensures objectivity and transparency.” Williams said the family has not heard from FDLE regarding a timeline on the investigation, nor has she heard from any Tampa City Councilmen (the council may be unable to comment until the investigation is complete). City Council is still considering proposed changes that would give Tampa’s currently toothless Citizen Review Board (CRB) power to issue and enforce subpoenas so that it can obtain the documents, testimony, and surveillance footage that enable it to perform meaningful investigations and seek out information overlooked by law-enforcement internal investigations.

“Despite rumors to the contrary, City Council’s authority to do so by ordinance is well-established under Florida law,” Tampa For Justice—an activist group that has outlined 12 specific changes it would like to see for the CRB—wrote in a September press release. The CRB currently only has power to do its investigation after officials conclude theirs. If council gives activists the changes they want, the CRB—ideally working with its own attorney as to not impede on FDLE and possible State Attorney investigations—could conduct its own investigation, at the same time as FDLE or Professional Standards Bureau using evidence it obtained independently. But even then, the CRB’s conclusion could only act as an additional opinion to other investigations. Proponents of the changes say that knowing an independent body like the CRB was doing its own investigation could implore the FDLE or TPD Professional Standards Bureau to do a more thorough job. The Times reported that last month, “City Attorney Gina Grimes pledged to work with the ACLU and police union officials to find a workable solution to an overhaul of the volunteer Citizen Review Board by Thanksgiving.” “Council members then voted unanimously to have Grimes bring back a draft ordinance at the council’s Nov. 19 meeting,” the Times added.

State Attorney says no charges for driver who hit protester. By Colin Wolf

ver the summer, a driver in a red pickup truck accelerated through a crowd of Black Lives Matter protesters in Tampa’s Hyde Park Village and struck and injured local organizer Jae Passmore. Despite multiple videos and witnesses, the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office says no charges will be filed. Following a four-month investigation that involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tampa Police Department, the State Attorney’s Office announced Oct. 23 that there isn’t sufficient evidence to press charges. “Despite a thorough examination of the facts, extensive analysis of available video evidence, and interviews with many witnesses across multiple states, we could find no evidence to prove the identity of the driver of that pickup truck,” Grayson Kamm, Chief Communications Officer for the State Attorney, wrote in an email. “The identity of the driver is an essential element necessary to prove beyond a reasonable doubt who committed the crime. Without this information, and having no other credible investigative leads, we have closed our investigation without the ability to pursue criminal charges.” The office says the investigation involved 13 witness interviews, multiple photo lineups, and analysis of five known videos related to the case. Though they were able to identify the owner of the truck, the State Attorney says it was not able to prove this individual was also the driver involved. “Investigators quickly located the registered owner of the truck. The registered owner refused to be interviewed or cooperate,” added Kamm. “Under Florida law, for crimes such as Aggravated Battery, identifying the registered owner is not the same as identifying the person behind the wheel when the incident happened. To charge a person with a crime, prosecutors must be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the suspect was the person controlling the vehicle at the time.” One witness, who has since moved to Boston, was unable to identify the driver in a photo lineup. Investigators also cou'dn't identify other witnesses because of face coverings. Some protesters also refused to cooperate, says the State Attorney’s Office. “Every agency involved has worked diligently on this case—turning your vehicle into a weapon can never be tolerated in our community,” said Kamm.

“Because no witness has been able to identify the driver, however, our office has ended its investigation at this time. We can and would reopen the case if new information is received in the future.” On June 21, roughly 20 Black Lives Matter protesters marched through Hyde Park Village, blocking the intersection of West Swann and South Rome avenues. A dispatch report from 3:47 p.m. stated “Car drove through protest.” Videos from the incident show the driver crossing over the median and striking Passmore, who says she suffered a concussion and injuries to her hip and right leg. According to the Tampa Bay Times, a manager who worked at the nearby Irish 31 pub approached TPD officers with information about the driver. However, the officers told her they “wouldn’t be contacting demonstrators.” In August, Tallahassee civil rights attorney Ben Crump—who’s represented the families of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown—was added to the legal team representing Passmore. “UNREAL. This Tampa driver purposefully STRUCK a peaceful BLM protestor. Jae suffered a concussion and other injuries!,” Crump wrote on Twitter after joining Passmore's team. Crump also said that TPD knew the identity of the driver of the truck, but added that TPD “refuses to provide it citing an ‘open investigation.’” Passmore’s legal team could not be reached before publication. The decision in Passmore’s case comes two weeks after the office of State Attorney Andrew Warren, who is up for re-election, decided to go ahead with an Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon charge against protester T Munoz, who was driving a white Kia, which hit the side of Jeep that attempted to drive in between two groups of protesters who’d stopped traffic on Howard Avenue in South Tampa on Sept. 15. In 911 calls obtained by CL after the Sept. 15 incident, the driver of the Jeep told dispatchers, “I need the police here now to move these cars, because if I have to, I’m going to run over them.” The Passmore news also comes nearly a month after State Attorney Andrew Warren’s office decided to drop charges against another protester, Indigeneous activist Jason Stuart Flores, who was struck by a vehicle during an anti-racist protest in Hyde Park on June 27. Flores was arrested for allegedly causing felony

Locals support Black Lives Matter, but are split along racial lines. By Nora O’Neill

new poll shows Black and white Tampa Bay residents feel very differently about a lot of racial issues. According to a survey by the Tampa Bay Partnership, most residents said that race relations in the area are much better in Tampa than throughout the rest of the country. However, most other topics showed a large divide between the sentiments of Black and white residents. For instance, 72% of Tampa Bay residents said race relations in the area are “generally good.” While only 29% said the same about the country as a whole. Since spring the country witnessed a racial reckoning of sorts, as the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor galvanized Black Lives Matter protests calling for police reform and social justice issues around the country. The survey shows 61% of local residents support the Black Lives Matter movement. The divide is clear though, as 91% of Black residents support it and 31% of white residents are strongly opposed. The difference in opinion is the most striking when it comes to the topic of police. When encountering an officer only 7% of local Black residents feel safer, compared to 60% of white residents. Released less than two weeks from the presidential election,

the study reflected that 51% of Tampa Bay residents believe issues of racism are important in the election, with 53% of residents believing Joe Biden is more likely than Donald Trump to improve race relations in the country. These findings come a couple months after the partnership released its 2020 Regional Equity Report. That study demonstrated Tampa Bay’s Black residents are likely to be paid much less than their white counterparts, and are more likely to live in poverty. “The findings of this survey aren’t surprising, but they do validate the feelings and opinions of our residents in a quantifiable way,” said Partnership President and CEO Rick Homans. “We hope this data will foster important dialogue within our community, and inform the hard conversations about race that are needed to create a diverse, inclusive region.” The poll was conducted in collaboration with the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, United Way Suncoast and the USF Muma College of business. Research company Downs & St. Germain surveyed a demographically representative group consisting of 450 residents in the area. The survey has a 95% confidence interval.

A far-right extremist group is now a fixture at Florida GOP rallies.

t an Oct. 23 Trump campaign rally at Florida’s largest retirement community The Villages, a man wearing a Proud Boys hat was spotted repeatedly flashing the “White Power” hand gesture directly behind the president’s podium. At one point the president says “We have made America proud again.” The man then responds by throwing up the gesture, while smirking towards the camera. Since the 2016 election, the far-right extremist group Proud Boys has typically been relegated to the wings of Florida politics. But ever since Trump ordered the self-described “Western Chauvinists” to “Stand down, and stand by” at the first presidential debate, the group has become increasingly visible, especially at recent Republican campaign rallies in Florida. Just days following the debate, Proud Boys were present at Donald Trump Jr.’s Oct. 8 Tampa rally (see photo above). And, last weekend, multiple members of the group provided event security for a “Pro America” event in Milton, Florida, that featured Congressman Matt Gaetz, reports WEAR-TV. It’s important to note that Gaetz has a long history of cozying up with far-right figures like the Proud Boys (including white supremacist Holocaust deniers). The congressman expressed this during his weekly podcast, where he claimed (in the most Trumpian way possible) that he didn’t know anything about the group. “I don’t know much about the Proud Boys

in terms of their doctrine and ideology, but I do know a Proud Boy and he’s a gay rights activist,” said Gaetz, seemingly referencing a Florida provocateur who claims to be “embedded” in the group. The congressman also stated that the Proud Boys can’t possibly be violent racists because they were helping secure an event that featured “Black voices for Trump.” “As I was leaving the event, someone came up to me and said did you notice who was helping with security,” Gaetz shared on the podcast. “I said no and she said, the Proud Boys. I thought, my goodness, the Proud Boys providing security and safety for the Black voices for Trump attending a pro-America rally in the Deep South... doesn’t seem to match their characterization.” Gaetz later confirmed to WEAR-TV that the Proud Boys did in fact provide security for the event. Like QAnon, the Proud Boys have now become a regular fixture at GOP events. Of course, none of this should be too surprising. Trump has forced the fringe into the mainstream, and very few leaders in the GOP seem to care enough to disavow any of it. We’re now at the point where major GOP super PACs are dumping massive amounts of money at QAnon-pushing Republican candidates, so why wouldn’t the GOP embrace a Southern Poverty Law Center-designated hate group that was part of the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally?

Mitch McConnell is banking on Democratic fecklessness, and he’s probably right.

itch McConnell is barely hiding his contempt for democracy. “A lot of what we’ve done over the last four years will be undone, sooner or later, by the next election,” the Republican Senate majority leader proclaimed on Sunday, nine days before he and his party will face voters at the polls. “But they won’t be able to do much about this for a long time to come.” This, of course, referred to the appointment r 45. of Amy Coney Barrett, the least-experienced Supreme Court nominee in American history, and probably the most reactionary since Robert Bork. She’d just survived a procedural motion by a 51–48 vote, and was confirmed on Monday night. You hardly need a cipher to read between the lines: McConnell knows that the president is likely to be defeated and possibly eviscerated next Tuesday night, and with him McConnell’s hard-won Senate majority. If that happens, Donald Trump’s only major legislative achievement, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, will quickly be rolled back. His executive orders and federal regulatory changes will soon go, too. There’s also a chance—small, but real—that 2020 could mark a semi-permanent realignment. True, the Senate will maintain its rural bias, providing Republicans a structural advantage, but a big enough landslide could swing legislative chambers in North Carolina, Texas, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, and Iowa, giving Democrats a say in shaping legislative and congressional districts for the next decade where they haven’t had one That means Republicans are facing not merely the prospect of losing House seats this year, but losing any chance to reclaim the House for years to come. This is especially true is the GOP reacts to a loss by retrenching into a narrower, more ideologically rigid version of itself, further alienating educated white suburban voters. Along with demographic changes and increasing urbanization, that dynamic might also dash the GOP’s White House hopes. This year, the reliably red Texas and Georgia have become something akin to toss-ups. Should they flip, either this year or in 2024, it would become near-impossible for a Republican to reach 270 electoral votes. Of course, progressives have been tumescent about retaking Texas for 15 years, and it hasn’t happened yet. But whether Republicans are exiled to the

wilderness for two years or 20—even if everything else Trump accomplished is chucked into the woodchipper—McConnell knows that he won, and he’s certain that his victory will outlive him. That’s why he was gloating Sunday. By hook and by crook, by bending every rule and breaking every norm, Mitch McConnell ruthlessly remade the federal judiciary. He obstructed President Obama’s nominees in an unprecedented fashion. He invented a justification for denying Merrick Garland even a hearing during an election year. He changed Senate rules to fast-track Trump’s judges. He invented a second justification for ramming through Amy Coney Barrett at record speed just eight days before an election. And he shrugged aside charges of hypocrisy—McConnell is a guy who once filibustered his own bill, after all—and Democrats’ threats of retaliation. With Barrett on the bench, McConnell believes his legacy is secure: Democrats are bluffing. It’s hard to imagine he’s wrong. I wrote recently about a central driver of governmental dysfunction—that Republicans behave like a European parliamentary party, while Democrats try to operate within a constitutional system. More ideologically coherent and politically strategic, Republicans employ maximalist tactics and do what it takes to win. With their looser and messier coalitions, Democrats are more likely to abide by norms and seek compromise. You can’t make peace with an enemy committed to total war. That’s why Democrats spent the last six years of Obama’s presidency getting their asses kicked. That’s why McConnell is so confident. He knows that, like Lucy pulling away the football from Charlie Brown, no matter how many times Republicans make bipartisan overtures that turn out to be obvious acts of bad faith, Democrats will keep coming back for more. Already, Democrats have politely begun signaling a seemingly inevitable surrender. When the media asked about adding seats to the Supreme Court and/or giving justices term limits, Joe Biden hemmed and hawed and eventually announced that he would form a—wait for it—bipartisan commission to consider judicial reforms. Sublime simplicity

In Tampa’s Drew Park, a family stand offers legit Mexican taco heaven. By Jon Palmer Claridge

hand and on your palate, which is sublime in its simplicity. Other menu choices are essentially alternative “delivery” methods: Tortas (on a bun), huaraches (cheese and bean-filled masa dough, flattened and fried), sopes (thicker and openface). I stick to tacos, but the choice is yours. The family also offers a carne asada entree including rice and refried beans (the frijoles are a neighborhood favorite) plus frequent weekly specials; (read: quesabirria). Two splendid salsas are offered to spice up the tacos. The salsa roja has enough biting spice to clear your sinuses and lingers on your palate long after you swallow. Fans of heat will be doing a happy dance. Wimps like me, are happier with the mild acidity delivered by tomatillos in the salsa verde. Regardless of whether you are of the asbestos-mouth fire-breathing school or just prefer a pleasant grace note, these sauces let you tweak your tacos to taste. Esquites (Mexican street corn) is a tall styrofoam cup of deliciousness. You miss the tactile

nature of nibbling from a cob, but a big spoonful catches you off guard. The corn is fresh and creamy with cotija cheese balancing spice and acid that makes it sing on your palate. You just want more. The spice is lively without being intrusive; it’s just enough to make it pop. A refreshing and authentic way to quench your thirst is to grab a cold soft drink from the cooler that sits just under the window in front. I lift the lid and reach down into the ice-filled water and pluck out two bottles of Jarritos, Mexico’s favorite. There’s a wonderful range of fruit flavors—strawberry, Mandarin, lime and my picks, pineapple and fruit punch. These sodas are made with real cane sugar instead of corn syrup. There’s a great balance between fizz and sweetness; in each case more reserved than most popular U.S. brands. The Fruit Punch looks like Hawaiian Punch but is less cloying and quite refreshing despite its Day-Glo color. Pineapple is a golden yellow, with the tartness associated with fresh fruit present on the finish. Sadly, COVID-19 forced cancellation of weekend hours (although the family hints at new, expanded hours soon), but you can travel vicariously Tue.-Fri. midday to rush hour. A mere eight months ago, Taqueria Margarita hosted a private birthday complete with a live mariachi band, another iconic symbol of great Mexican culture. As we patiently wait behind our masks longing to share the communal joy of music to fill our hearts, at least we have access to the authentic tastes of old Mexico to fill our bellies.

While the tiny building is modest with just an outdoor picnic table and umbrella, the food evokes the essence of Mexican street food that would not be out of place near Frida Kahlo’s brilliant cobalt blue La Casa Azul. The goal here is not to push boundaries like at Bartaco or Shaker & Peel. You won’t find hibiscus tortillas or glazed pork belly. Instead, proteins all exhibit maximum flavor unmasked by the condiments we so often mindlessly ladle upon our Mexican cuisine. There are no dollops of sour cream or chunky guacamole to distract from the goodness of the warm soft meat-topped homemade tortillas. Irene Manglis now serves her twist on a family recipe in Palm Harbor. By Jenna Rimensnyder

hen it comes to owning a mobile kitchen, success is all about location, location, location. But what happens when your ideal location has voted against mobile units? You improvise. Irene Manglis, the founder of Meli Greek Street Donuts, did just that when Tarpon Springs—known for its affinity for Greek food and culture—restricted mobile units to operate in city limits. Manglis and fellow food truck hustlers would either have to operate inside an industrial park if they wanted to operate around there. Refusing to serve up her recipes passed down by generations of women in her family next to cranes, Manglis took her trailer to Palm Harbor where a friend owns a shopping plaza and allows her to set up shop on weekends. Manglis remembers watching her mom making doughnuts for church festivals, benefits and get-togethers. “They would have to start at 4 a.m. to get the wood super hot to make enough heat for the oil to reach its temp. Then they would fry all day, and people would come to pick up their orders. My mother came to America and had it much easier. She just had to turn on a stove,” Manglis told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay via email. The original doughnut recipe was passed down by her mother’s yiayia (grandmother) in Greece and has since been the base of every offering at Meli Greek Street Donuts. Serving up made to order Greek doughnuts, aka loukoumades Manglis puts her own spin on the classic. "Meli," translates to "honey" in

Greek, and is a large part of the loukoumades recipe—which are traditionally served with honey syrup and cinnamon. While wanting to give a major nod to her great grandmother, Manglis decided to put her own twist on the recipe, incorporating Nutella, Oreo, bacon, whatever is both delicious and on-trend. Like the Let’s Get Fluffy, with white chocolate praline, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and honey fluff from Tarpon’s own Bayshore Bees. There is also the Classic Kanella (great grandmother’s recipe), Churr’All I need, Poli Oreo and the Choco-Fretta (pictured above). Keeping things seasonal, Manglis is offering pumpkin spice doughnuts with pumpkin whip. Meli’s also mixes up frappes and Greek iced coffee. Manglis creates every bite out of an old horse trailer that she renovated in January while working by day as a paralegal and what she calls a “dough girl” by night. “Meli wasn’t just a good idea for me. It’s my family tradition, it’s my culture, it was my dream! I’ve poured my heart into every detail Meli has. Too good not to share. I took a chance and it’s the best thing I ever did.” Once local markets and events are back in full swing, Manglis hopes to take Meli’s all around town for all of Tampa Bay to get a taste. Stolen musical themes run the gamut from the Beatles to Broadway to the Spice Girls. Raabe continually upends expectations by delivering melodies in surprising idioms. Jazz appears when you least expect it plus there’s incongruous use of maracas and a Patagonian rainstick. Third teammate, Matthew McGee, demonstrates once again his versatility in a series of humorous cameos—as the omniscient narrator periodically reminding the audience in ominous tones that “none of what you are watching is real,” as a chief master sergeant reassuring despite obvious chaos, and as an alien leader who curiously must have watched our VP debate. The livecast is at their best as an ensemble, but the women, in particular, also demonstrate considerable vocal chops. Heather Baird sexily coos a mashup that uses Rosemary Clooney’s “Come On-a My House” as a springboard for all things candy, while Eileen B. Lymus belts out a Dolly Parton “9 to 5” mix. James Martin Roberts charms, and Robert Spence Gabriel lends his ukulele skills for a Mr. Rogers Neighborhood remix. Surprise is the order of the day. There are so many clever elements, but to discuss them would be to rob you of the moment. Suffice it to say, I laughed out loud on several occasions. So much so, that if I had been drinking, my car interior would have been victim of a vaudevillian spit-take. Set and lighting designer, Tom Hanson, has built an outdoor steel truss stage that fills the formerly open space between the two main buildings on the north side of the freeFall campus. The angled surfaces catch the colorful lighting, which frames the action in deeply saturated

colors to amplify the mood of each musical mashup. The pre-show ultraviolet is appropriately disquieting. In what at first glance seems a relatively simple production, the demands of COVID-19 mean that the band is hidden, with its members performing remotely from the black box theatre’s chair-less risers separated by plexiglass. The singers all have dividers onstage as well, which fits the radio format. But sound designer, Stephen Kraack, melds it all into a unified, balanced whole. The transitions from live to video are seamless and the music couldn’t sound better as it fills your car. You can also access the feed on a cellphone, but I’d highly recommend using the superior car stereo. A healthy battery should easily handle the hourlong show. The plot (such as it is) is ultimately tied up by a deus ex machina (see Greek drama) with BOTB drag performer, Adriana Sparkle. Apart from some well-earned warnings about climate change, this entertainment is ultimately not about the drama, but a welcome escape from pandemic lockdown to savor the shared thrill of live performance that we’ve all been missing and craving these many months. So grab your masks, load your pod into the car, and scurry on down to the freeFall drive-in. Be prepared to LOL, forget your troubles c’mon get happy. It’s a romp. Note: Access is on the east side from the north driveway off of 60th St, just south of 1st Ave. N. Beer, wine, and snacks are available on site from the rolling concession cart. show you something you’ve never seen before. “Synchronic” actually delivers. Bonus points for anyone so inspired that they go seek out Benson and Moorhead’s first three films (“Resolution,” “Spring” and “The Endless”) before watching their latest. The duo has talked openly about how each of their films is connected through a shared universe, and I suspect that “Synchronic” is no different. I cannot wait for a repeat viewing.

The Mortuary Collection 4.5 stars, 108 minutes, Shudder One of horror’s most entertaining genres, the anthology, has seen a massive uptick in both quality and quantity in the 13 years since the gold standard, “Trick ‘r Treat,” debuted. “The Mortuary Collection” stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the all-time greats. Writer-director Ryan Spindell’s gory bouquet truly has something for everyone, and Spindell thankfully sticks the landing by delivering a wrap-around story that’s just as good as the short segments contained therein. Set in the town of Raven’s End, where newspaper headlines warn that the Boggy Bay Tooth Fairy remains on the loose, mortician Montgomery Dodd (Clancy Brown) regales a young job applicant, Sam (Caitlin Custer), with a flurry of dark wonders. “As with all stories, it’s not the length of the tale, but the quality of content,” Dodd says, and boy howdy, he ain’t lying. From a pretty pickpocket who discovers a portal to the Elder Gods, to a college freshman (Ema Horvath) looking to spread her seed, to the phantasmagorical mindfuck that awaits a caregiver who fails to ease his wife’s suffering, “The Mortuary Collection” is a ghoulish delight that commands your attention.

Or the hero, Rob Justice (co-writer Timur Turisbekov), a former runway model turned wasteland assassin, who can’t help but have sex with everyone, including his mustached sister Raksha (Doroteya Toleva), also a vicious assassin. Or the perpetually naked and aroused uber villain/former catwalk king Rafael, the only man with a better ass than his, as Justice proclaims during a voiceover. It could be that this Bulgarian import from Kazakhstan eschews all norms of conventional genre cinema. Or maybe it’s just the intoxicating way that Turisbekov and the other actors speak their dialogue as if it’s the first time they’ve ever uttered words. If you loved “Iron Sky,” prepare to go gaga for “Bullets of Justice,” an instant cult classic.

Bullets of Justice 3.5 stars, 79 minutes, Streaming The latest balls-out assault on cinema from writer-director Valeri Milev, is batshit crazy in the best possible way. Maybe it’s the genetically mutated German pig soldiers who fly around on jet packs with little people strapped to their backs as tail gunners. Or the faux advertisements hawking “Grade A human meat” for sale

Chop Chop 3.5 stars, 81 minutes, Streaming “Chop Chop” might just be one of the oddest, most ambitious debut feature films to come along in quite a while. For 75 minutes, writer-director Rony Patel crafts a gloriously gory take on the worst night a young couple could ever have. Seriously, I had no idea what to expect, but I definitely wasn’t prepared for “Chop Chop” to

Synchronic 4.5 star(s), 96 minutes, Theatrical If you’ve yet to experience a movie by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, “Synchronic” is the perfect gateway drug. If not for the COVID19 pandemic, this likely would have been the breakout smash that finally introduced the world to Benson and Moorhead’s immeasurable filmmaking talents. The film focuses on two New Orleans paramedics who must contend with a growing body count from a new designer drug. The kicker isn’t the drug, but what it can do, which is basically transport people of a certain age and medical condition to different moments in history, but only those moments that occurred wherever the user is when they take the pill. “Synchronic” is a brilliant twist on time travel, an epic mindfuck of surreal imagery, and a beautiful meditation on mortality and friendship. Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan have never been better, but the real star here is Benson’s audacious script. A lot of movies promise to

Ivy (Poser) is a local spiritualist who makes her living reading tarot cards and channeling the departed spirits of loved ones missed by her elderly clientele. Ivy’s daughter,

Echo (Zelda Adams), is a wise-beyond-her-years goth-girl teenager. And Kurt (John Adams) is new in town, a drifter who plans to renovate and flip a long-dilapidated property next door to Ivy’s home. These three lives will intersect in ways both familiar and unexpected, but that’s not what makes “The Deeper You Dig” such a discovery. Adams and Poser approach each scene with imagination and ambition, using light and shadow to phenomenal effect. Their take on the overused ‘purgatory’ trope is revelatory. And the bond between Poser and Zelda Adams, as real-life mother and daughter, radiates off the screen, infusing “The Deeper You Dig” with an urgency and aching sorrow that resonates and hits home.

SERIOUSLY, DON’T LOOK: ‘Don’t Look Back’ isn’t worth a glance. deftly stitch together a grab-bag of influences from teleporting mutant killers to torture porn and still keep me transfixed. Patel doesn’t stick the landing, sadly, but it’s difficult to fault him for taking a risk and trying one last twist in the final six minutes. “Chop Chop” deserves to be seen, and Patel is definitely a director to follow. I can’t wait to see what he does next. Love and Monsters 3.5 stars, 109 minutes, Premium Video-on-Demand Nine years after breaking out in MTV’s “Teen Wolf,” and thankfully two years past the conclusion of his “Maze Runner” trilogy, Dylan O’Brien has been gifted with a new potential franchise, and it’s so much better than anyone likely expected. “Love and Monsters” imagines a world decimated by twin disasters. First, an extinction-level asteroid is blown up prior to impact. But the fallout from the bombs, which spreads across the globe, causes everyday creatures like cockroaches, ants, earthworms and centipedes to grow exponentially into massive monsters that lay waste to cities and kill most of humanity. Joel (O’Brien) was just 17 when the world as he knew it ended, thick in the throes of first love with Aimee (Jessica Henwick), and excited for college. Now, seven years later, he lives in an underground bunker that’s constantly being attacked by giant critters. By chance, he reconnects via short-wave radio with Aimee, who is surviving 85 miles away on the northern California coast with another group. “Love and Monsters” is both a coming-of-age story and a robust survival thriller. The special effects, a healthy mix of practical and CGI, are solid. The cast, including Michael Rooker as a wise mentor,

commits wholeheartedly. And just when it ends, you can’t wait to see more.

Honestly, I don’t have a fucking clue what “Broil” is about. I just know it’s not very good.

Amulet 3 stars, 99 minutes, Streaming Tomas (Alec Secareanu) is a former soldier living on the streets of London and wracked with guilt over his role in an unidentified war where he was tasked with guarding a check point. When he’s offered refuge by a nun, Sister Claire (Imelda Staunton), and a job as a caretaker at a dilapidated estate, Tomas sees an opportunity for redemption by helping Magda (Carla Juri), whose mother lays dying on the third floor of the massive house. “Amulet,” the first film from Romola Garai, takes its time getting to the spooky stuff, but it’s worth the wait. My main fault with “Amulet” is Garai’s decision to leave certain critical moments open to viewer interpretation, specifically where it concerns a strange totem that Tomas digs up during the war.

I Am Toxic 2 star(s), 76 minutes, Streaming Hailing from Argentina, “I Am Toxic,” which is known overseas by the preferable title, “Soy Tóxico,” is set in the distant future of 2101 after the Earth has been ravaged by war and a virus that turns the infected into vicious, desiccated monsters. I love a good dystopian action-horror mashup, but sadly there’s not much originality to be found here. While it’s clear that the creative forces behind “I Am Toxic” gave it their all, the end result falls far short of better apocalyptic thrillers that you’ve already seen.

Broil 2 stars, 90 minutes, Blu-Ray and streaming Fans of “Jerry Maguire” rejoice! Jonathan Lipnicki, the adorable kid who knew the weight of a human head, is all grown up, and apparently no longer making smart career choices when it comes to the movies he stars in. Lipnicki plays The Chef in “Broil,” a new horror movie about a deranged, cannibalistic family—I don’t know if they’re demons or celestial beings or a third-rate version of the Kardashians—that gets together once a year to celebrate The Harvest. Only this year, two of the family members want out of the big tradition, and they offer up their first-born teenaged daughter as penance. Things do not go as planned. A toddler gets grilled and eaten. Lots of other people die. It’s all very confusing.

Don’t Look Back 1 star, 90 minutes, Streaming “Don’t Look Back,” the new film by Jeffrey Reddick, the guy who came up with the story outlines for “Final Destination” and “Final Destination 2,” basically ignores its own advice. Not only did Reddick look way back 20 years to his first film for inspiration, but he also forgot everything that worked so well to make “Final Destination” an iconic horror franchise. It’s not just that “Don’t Look Back” sucks. It’s the depth of suckage that truly offends and confounds. “Don’t Look Back” is about a group of supposed strangers who all happen to be in a public park on the day that a beloved local philanthropist is brutally murdered while the group all watches and does nothing to intervene. Some even stream the beating in real-time oline. Quicker than you can say ‘no one cheats death,’ the group suddenly finds themselves being picked off, the seeming victims of karmic retribution for their inability or unwillingness to be a good Samaritan.

Only, instead of the inspired and over-thetop grand guignol deaths from the “Final Destination” series, viewers are treated to a series of underwhelming, wholly pedestrian fatalities that would barely make the opening segment on the local news. Avoid at all costs. House of Shadows 1 stars, 75 minutes, Streaming/DVD “House of Shadows” starts strong with a young woman, Sarah (Elena Delia), being notified that she is the sole heir to a substantial inheritance, which includes a secluded retreat where her mother lived. But the film quickly, and inexplicably, undercuts what could have been a satisfying gothic thriller. “House of Shadows” just plods along with characters you don’t feel attached to, a host of mysteries that go too long without being resolved and no real sense of urgency or dread, which is a hallmark of the paranormal genre. Redwood Massacre: Annihilation 0 stars, 104 minutes, Streaming You would be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of scream queen Danielle Harris, but even I walked away from “Redwood Massacre: Annihilation” feeling pissed. This is, quite honestly, one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, and I suffered through the entirety of Daniel Myrick’s “Skyman.” There’s just no point whatsoever. Watching “Redwood Massacre: Annihilation” is like watching clueless counselors wander around Camp Crystal Lake for nearly two hours while they bitch about the experience and you barely get to see Jason Voorhees. It’s an offensive, interminable film that should be ashamed to call itself part of the slasher genre. Read more via cltampa.com/arts

A rare dodecagon in St. Pete’s ‘Pink Streets’ district is now for sale. By Colin Wolf

one-of-a-kind 12-sided home, or dodecagon, is now for sale in St Pete’s “Pink Streets” district. Located at 7117 Sunshine Dr. S., the Willingham House, was designed by architect Al Willingham for his wife Eleanor in 1970. The 1,827 square-foot home has since been restored to its former glory and comes with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and, well, an incredibly circular lifestyle.

The unique home was built by local architectural firm Harvard Jolly, which was also responsible for quite a few Tampa Bay landmarks, including the old Inverted Pyramid St. Petersburg Pier, the Hospitality House at Busch Gardens, the Williams Park Band Shell and others. Nine live music events for Halloween weekend.

By Ray Roa t’s Halloween weekend, and we’re in the middle of a pandemic. As of press time, Florida had recorded 4,298 new cases of coronavirus since Oct. 26. That said, there are in-person party options for you, and most promoters have built in their own safety precautions. Here are eight live gigs (and one virtual concert) for those of you looking to dance with the devil on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. THURSDAY OCT. 29 Opera Tampa “Witching Hour” Straz Center’s stage on the Tampa Riverwalk is a good option for those looking to wade back into live events in the age of coronavirus, and on this weekend Opera Tampa gets in the Halloween spirit with a wicked concert where singers from the company promise to “unleash the greatest coven of witches of all time.” Table reservations go from $10-$20 depending on the size of your party. “Witching Hour” shows happen on Thu.Sat. Oct. 29-31. (David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa) FRIDAY OCT. 30 Soul! Nite w/DJs Funk Jesus and Gregg Schmidt Everyone loves soul-flavored acts like The Bar-Kays, Otis Redding, Ketty Lester, Meco and Marlena Shaw, but how often do you get to hear their spooky songs (respectively: “Monster,” “Trick or Treat,” “The House Is Haunted,” “Love Me, Dracula” and “Easy Evil”) while partying during a pandemic? Orpheum gives clubgoers a chance on Halloween-eve with this $3 cover show where costumes are encouraged. There are two-for-one drink specials all night, but you need a face mask to enter. (Orpheum, Ybor City) La Luchaween Does the prospect of contracting coronavirus makes it too scary to get out in person? We feel you, and apparently La Lucha does, too. The St. Petersburg jazz trio—drummer Mark Feinman, pianist John O’Leary and bassist Alejandro Arenas—has a new album out (Everybody Wants To Rule the World), but it’s putting it on the shelf for this virtual Halloweenthemed gig. Instead, La Lucha—alongside host Ken “Count” Peplowski and his vicious beat Honey Pie—has plans to score three classic horror scenes from the silent films “Nosferatu.” “The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari” and “The Phantom Of The Opera.” You’ll need Facebook to watch; costumes encouraged. @laluchamusic on Facebook

SATURDAY OCT. 31 Pleasures Pleasures is easily one of the freakiest, most fun psych-rock acts in Tampa Bay, and there’s always a surprise built into its live set. That’s why it’s fitting that the band tops the bill for this Halloween party at The Bends, which is having its first live event in almost eight months. Concerts at the shotgun-style St. Petersburg dive are usually jam-packed inside affairs, but for this one, Bends co-founder and co-owner Matt Kaye says he and the crew have installed an outdoor stage and doubled the bar’s outdoor seating so patrons—asked to take part in the “Dead musicians” theme—can take in the set along with DJs for the dance party. “This is such a weird time,” Kaye told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay, adding that he expects to see some good costumes. “Bowie, Prince, Tupac, Juice WRLD, O.D.B., James Brown. Just to name a few.” Everyone entering The Bends needs a mask, but they’re not required outside (although Kaye is highly and kindly encouraging everyone to wear them and party responsibly). (The Bends, St. Petersburg) Florida Night Heat w/Moonthing In a year packed with horrible and unlikely surprises, the Tampa music gods blessed us with one welcome and wholly unexpected development: the reunion of Florida Night Heat. Fans haven’t seen the instrumental-rock trio since its smoldering set at the 2017 farewell show for the Ybor City location of New World Brewery. The beloved venue, restaurant and bar has since reopened in Sulphur Springs, but the Florida Night boys settled back into their scattered existence afterwards (guitarist Jensen Kistler in Las Vegas, bassist Andre “Black Viking God” Jones in New York and drummer Chris Wood, aka Mes McDonald, in Tampa). They’re all back in one place, for one night only, and to celebrate, Florida Night Heat is re-releasing its 2013 EP, Omegas (home to the head-bobbing homage “Joe Haskins (Remix 96)”), on 180-gram vinyl. Only 50 copies of the vinyl will be available at the gig, where only 100 people will be admitted to create social distancing. If you miss out, there’s a livestream, but don’t expect to see the band back together again anytime soon. (Crowbar, Ybor City)

Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson & the Magic Rockers w/Kid Royal In the afternoon, outside Hideaway Café, the St. Petersburg listening room hosts a sidewalk show with Lounge Cat. That night, however, the venue goes inside for a limited capacity gig headlined by blues guitar legend Luther Johnson. The 81-year-old Chicagoan also known as “Guitar Junior” was a touring guitarist with both Magic Sam and Muddy Waters (a period of Junior’s life when he also shared stages with The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers and Johnny Winter). He even appeared in “Blues Brothers” playing backup for John Lee Hooker. As a special treat, Kid Royal will record a new live album during his opening set. (Hideaway Café, St. Petersburg) Blood Ball w/Bangarang/Iamdoechii/ DJ Qeys/Jroc Jones Iamdoechii’s “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake” is exactly the kind of bisexual club hit you want to hear when you’re about five G&Ts in and ready to cut loose with your friends. If you’re the kind who goes out these days, then The Bricks gives you a chance when the Tampa rapper joins BOTB-winning rock band Bangarang on the bill for this no-cover Halloween night party. Even if you can’t make it out, you deserve to have a spin with the ‘doechii banger “Spookie Coohie” which was ultra-nasty before Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion made misbehavior mainstream with “WAP.”

The neighborhood hangout will have DJ Gloffy (aka Jeremy Gloff) playing selector. An open bar option is available ($25 donation, starts at 9 p.m. ends at 1 a.m.; cash bar when it opens at 8 p.m., and until it closes at 3 a.m.), but masks are required when not seated at the bar or a table. Chef Tony Macaroni (read more about him on p. 23) will be cooking to satisfy your drunken hunger pangs. Easygoing Tampa duo The Sunsetters plays the early set (3 p.m.-5:15 p.m.) that’s part of a full weekend of live music at the downtown food and biergarten (Shevonne + the Force play on Friday, reggae band Jahfari has a four-house set on Sunday). Jealous typologies I’ve been in a relationship with a wonderful guy for the past year. The only problem is that he works with a girl he used to fuck. It wasn’t just sex—they would go on dates and even went on vacation together. He kept this little “detail” to himself for six full months before giving himself away by mistake. He then apologized, said he hadn’t told me so that I wouldn’t worry for no reason and that he no longer has any feelings for her whatsoever. Disclaimer: I’m an extremely jealous person with huge trust issues, so knowing he kept all this from me is devastating. I no longer trust him. Just thinking that he’s seeing—on a daily basis—a woman he used to sleep with is driving me nuts! I repeatedly asked him to let me meet her in person, at the very least, but it didn’t happen. So one night, after giving him a headsup, I showed up at their workplace. He had said it would be ok for me to stop by sometime but once I got there he freaked out. He accused me of not trusting him! My question: Am I being crazy and overreacting—I’ll admit I’ve been agonizing nonstop about this—or is he acting like an asshole with something to hide? I’ve been struggling to curb my anxiety about this, and I’ve even had a few panic attacks he’s not aware of. Him changing jobs is out of the question. —I’m Terrified About Losing It And Nuking Everything How long were you dating this guy before you outed yourself as an extremely jealous person (EJP)? I’m guessing at least a few weeks, ITALIANE, if not a few months. Because as you’re no doubt aware—as all EJPs are aware—it’s not a desirable trait, which is why very few EJPs disclose on the first date. (“I grew up in Milan, I have two sisters, and I’m the type of person who’ll show at your workplace and cause a huge scene if I think you might be fucking someone else or have ever fucked someone else.”) If you’re anything like EJPs I’ve dated and dumped, you didn’t show your boyfriend this side of yourself until long after he’d developed feelings for you, making it harder—harder by design—for him to end things. I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess he found out his new girlfriend is an EJP before you found out your boyfriend works with a woman he used to fuck. At some point before the six-month mark, ITALIANE, you blew up at him about a waitress or someone he follows on Instagram. And at that moment he realized he couldn’t tell you he works with a woman he used to fuck. Because now he feared—because now he knew—you would lose your EJP shit over it because he’d seen you lose your EJP shit over far less. The only thing more exhausting than being with an EJP is dealing with an EJP who resents you

for hiding something from them—something like working with an ex—that would set them off for days or months. I get it, I get it: he kept this from you. But if the last six months (!) are proof of anything, ITALIANE, they’re proof your boyfriend was right to keep this from you. Since changing jobs wasn’t an option and since he can’t jump in a time machine and go un-fuck this woman, what other option did he have? Given a choice between telling you and spending the next six months dealing with your bullshit or keeping his mouth shut and hoping you never found out, he quite understandably chose the path of least bullshit. If you can’t see how your own behavior may have contributed to his omission—and if you can’t forgive him and you can’t take, “No, I’m not fucking her now,” for an answer and you refuse to see this as your problem, not his— then do your boyfriend a favor and dump him. If you don’t and if you keep this shit up, if you keep saying you can’t trust him one minute and then complaining about him accusing you of not trusting him the next (?), be prepared to have your ass dumped. Because there’s only so long a person, guilty of wrongdoing or not, will put up with an EJP’s bullshit. And finally: Your boyfriend was under no obligation to disclose the current location of every girl he’d ever fucked at the start of your relationship, ITALIANE, or at any other point, for that matter. While some people can be open with their partners about their pasts and their partners can be open with them, it’s not compulsory. And if someone wants to try and make it work with an EJP, it’s not a good idea. I don’t know why anyone would want to make it work with an EJP, ITALIANE, but there are people out there who do. Your boyfriend might be one of them. But don’t push your luck.

I’ve been with my partner for a year-and-a-half and have been long distance from the start, and she’s working towards moving closer to me in a more permanent way. But I’m worried about the sex as I feel a lack of desire for her. I believe it could be my newfound awareness of “patriarchal gaze,” which I wasn’t conscious of before meeting her. I used to enjoy kink but I no longer consider it sexy. I used to have a lot of sex with my ex-boyfriends and used to feel some conflict, but power games were a turn-on. Loving care has replaced dirty games, and I feel wrong for now if I try to watch porn and I no longer enjoy touching myself because I cannot get off without thinking in sexist ways. Please advise on how to feel sexy again without being destructive. —Still Horny Deep Down Somewhere There’s nothing wrong with objectifying someone who wants to be objectified by you, and there’s nothing wrong with being objectified by someone you want to be objectified by. (That’s what you mean by the “patriarchal gaze,” right?) In addition to being three-dimensional human beings with wants, needs, agency, and autonomy, we are also physical objects, SHDDS, and sometimes we want to be appreciated for the objects we are. (Or the objects we also are.) So long as the person you’re objectifying—so long as the person on the receiving end of your gaze—enjoys receiving that kind of attention from you and vice-versa, there’s nothing wrong with it. To gaze at someone who desires your gaze, to touch them and play dirty games with them, isn’t inherently sexist or dehumanizing—so long as it’s consensual and mutually pleasurable, which I realize it all too often isn’t, particularly for women. But we shouldn’t let assholes (mostly men) who can make people (mostly women) feel unsafe or uncomfortable with a look ruin what isn’t just enjoyable when consensual, but affirming and at times transcendently pleasurable.

To be perfectly frank, SHDDS, I’m concerned about your relationship. If you feel so awful about your desires and sexual history that you’re incapable of enjoying sex anymore—if you can’t even masturbate anymore—and those feelings entered your life at roughly the same time your partner did… maybe your partner is part of the problem. If you were evolving in a different direction with her sexually, if you were moving away from power games—which can be very loving—and toward something else, I wouldn’t see a problem. But you aren’t opening up to something new in this relationship, SHDDS, you’re shutting down. Even if your partner hasn’t said or done anything to make you feel ashamed of your sexual desires or history, SHDDS, I’m not sure she’s right for you. And I don’t think it would be right of you to let someone you don’t desire move across the country to be with you. But whether you decide to stay in this relationship or not, you would benefit from speaking with a sex-positive/kink-positive therapist about your conflicted feelings.
