Dorky Dance Fitness is hotter than a bottle of hot sauce that got put in the oven and then lit on fire and also covered in lava … and also dipped in that fluorescent orange nacho cheese that’s way too hot and sticks to the roof of your mouth and burns even a few days later. But a good burn. A nice burn. Feel the burn! Dorky attire highly encouraged (but not required). (all ages)

7 pm “Nathan Mosher Is Injured: A Compilation of Jokes, Songs, and Poems About a Breakup, a Breakdown, a Breakthrough, and Everything in Between.”

Comedian, poet and singer-songwriter Nathan Mosher weaves together stand-up, music and poetry for a night of laughter, sorrow, reflection and, ultimately, hope. (parental guidance suggested)

Award-winning Canadian magician Keith Brown brings magic straight to you. Awarded Toronto’s Best Magician and he’s not even from Toronto. Keith recently performed for the President and First Lady of Iceland. Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl thinks he’s incredible, and we know you will too. (all ages)

10 pm “Ingenue: Deanna Durbin, Judy Garland and the Golden Age of Hollywood”

Judy Garland is an icon, beloved as Dorothy in Oz. But in the 1930s, Deanna was a much bigger star. A favorite of Roosevelt, Churchill and even Mussolini, at 27 she left the screen for a life of obscurity in France. “Ingenue” tells the true tale of the lifelong friendship – and rivalry – of these two idols of Old Hollywood. Starring Melanie Gall, from Fringe hit “Piaf and Brel.” (parental guidance suggested)

Join Lily E. Garnett of “War Paint” for a fun children’s workshop in basic stage makeup. (All are welcome to participate!) Lily will walk viewers through the process of applying and safely removing stage makeup, basic skin care, and the importance of positive body image and self love. Viewers are welcome to apply pretend or “play” makeup along with Lily, draw a picture of their face and color in the makeup as we go, or simply watch the workshop. This award-winning solo show, written and performed by Andrew Erskine Wheeler, was exquisitely staged at Minneapolis’ Ritz Theatre by director Matt Sciple and filmed before a live audience for the 2019 Minnesota Fringe festival. SUNDAY, MAY 24 3 pm KIDS FRINGE! “The Prophecy Stone: A Stardust Kingdom Interactive Adventure”

Darcy the pirate invites you to join him for story time. Long ago before Darcy raised a fallen star, rescued a tree or defeated the evil queen, before he was even born, there was a prophecy stone, a forest and a young fairy with an important destiny. Between the pages of this magical storybook is a unique interactive experience where you guide Destiny the fairy on her journey. You will make the choices and it’s up to you to help her find the prophecy stone in this all new Stardust Kingdom adventure. RENAISSANCE FARE Farm & Haus is at the forefront of East End Market’s post-COVID culinary revival

Being a restaurateur in the age of COVID-19 is stressful enough. Being a restaurateur forced to shut down food service operations while being 40 weeks pregnant in the age of COVID-19 has got to reach air traffic controllerlevels of stressful. And while coronavirus has allowed some of those good folks to take a breath, that wasn’t the case for Farm & Haus’ Brittany Walsh Lyne. The only breaths she took were of the patterned sort and on March 29, the day she and husband Patrick Lyne announced Farm & Haus’ temporary closure, she gave birth to baby boy Callahan. “I think, mentally, I gave myself permission to have him since the stress of staying open was removed,” she says. The stress of staying open. The stress of closing down. Stress wears many masks dear reader … pregnant pause … and so should you.

Brittany admits it’s been a “huge relief” to be open again after being closed for the entire month of April. And, I’ll admit, it was nice walking into East End Market to pick up my order, even if “Phase 1” had the place looking somewhat disorganized. No, we wouldn’t be enjoying Farm & Haus’ brand of “healthy comfort food” inside the market, but the courtyard outside was open, with plenty of appropriately distanced seating available. It also happens to be a great place to enjoy breakfast items – eggy numbers don’t really travel well, not unless you live less than five minutes away. So have a seat outside and get your avocado toast ($8) with an egg on it, or an OG breakfast sandwich ($8) with a thick (and I mean thick!) maplesage sausage patty, gouda cheese and sunny-side-up farm egg in an English muffin.

For whatever reason, a majority of my visits to Farm & Haus have been for breakfast, often with friends visiting from out of town. In my experience, F&H never fails to make a great first impression. Tourists seem to get a kick out of those “Wakey Wakey” ($10) and Southwest hash bowls ($12), but that’s not to say their lunch items deserve second billing – they don’t. Anyone who’s tried their ultrafresh Mediterranean salad bowl ($10) knows it’s more than just a pretty face of vegetables dolled up with hummus, crispy chickpeas and tahini.

The Lynes are big on local sourcing – Everoak, Frog Song, Lake Meadow, Olde Hearth and Herta Berk Schwein being just some of the purveyors they turn to in salads and more. They’re big on bold flavors, too. A chicken coconut curry ($13) with veg didn’t skimp on the turmeric, and the jasmine rice was as fragrant as the shrub in my neighbor’s front yard.

The cafe is only open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., but they offer a hot dinner pickup from 4-7 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays with portions intended for parties ranging from one to eight people – everything from orange chicken to vegan shepherd’s pie to Southwest braised chicken with grits and grilled okra-tomato salad. They’re also delivering their farm-fresh fare via East End Market’s Mobile Delivery Truck, so suck it, GrubHub. Yes indeed, 2020 has been a pretty good year for the Lynes, and the appreciation shows.

“There’s no greater feeling than seeing all our regular customers come back and order their favorites,” says Brittany. “That’s what we love so much about Orlando, how everyone comes together to support their own.” And they’re grateful for every bit of it, from birth to rebirth. fkara@orlandoweekly.com

Pho, like sushi, better burgers, omelets or fried anything, isn’t very conducive to the takeout experience – the at-home slurp is never quite as pleasurable as it is at a restaurant. Hien Pham and Huong Nguyen, the husband-and-wife team behind Z Asian Vietnamese Kitchen on East Colonial Drive, seem to agree, and they’re doing something about it. The pair is selling meal kits with detailed instructions so that you, too, can enjoy restaurant-quality pho in the comfort of your own home. The caveat: You need an Instant Pot to replicate the soupy sorcery.

I brought home a kit containing vacuumsealed packages of oxtails, aromatics and rice noodles, along with garnishes (bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeños and the like) of the freshest quality. A container holding a concentrated form of their secret stock went into the Instant Pot along with the meat, aromatics and 18 cups of water. It took 38 minutes for the water in the pot to boil; 35 minutes for the ingredients to cook; 40 minutes for the concoction to depressurize; and three minutes to boil the noodles. That’s a quarter of the time it would normally take to make pho. The result? Absolute bloody magic. Damn if this wasn’t one the best bowls of pho I’ve ever had.

A few days later, I busted out the Instant Pot for a kit of vegan bún bò hue (spicy beef noodle soup) I picked up from Z. The stock, fashioned from jicama, daikon, carrots, lemongrass, onions and spices, was shockingly good, its flavors thoroughly permeating the strips of “beef” during the pressure cooking. The thick, round rice noodles required a quick one-minute zap in the microwave prior to assembly, and instead of hoisin and sriracha, Nguyen included her house-made chili oil. It’s a knockout soup with a broth that punches well above its weight. The greatest vegan soup of all time? I’d say it’s the reigning champ in this town. Visit eatzasian.com/ mealkits to order.
