Paying Tribute to a Founder and Head: Dr. Feltin Retires! It was wonderful to reconnect with many of you as we honored Dr. Feltin with a beautiful retirement celebration in May at the Mountaineers Club in Seattle. Her years of dedicated hard work were acknowledged as parents and alumni shared their Eton stories. Thank you to all who participated in making the evening a truly special event. Even though retired, Dr. Feltin remains very active within the Montessori and the independent school communities. She plans on travelling to different parts of the world and spending more time with family and friends. Dr. Feltin with Eton Alumni at her Tribute party, May 2012 in Seattle.
New Head of School: Introducing Dr. Russell Smith During the summer of 2011, a committee made up of faculty, parents and board members conducted an extensive search for a new Head of School. Dr. Russell Smith was one of three finalists who came to Eton last November to meet with everyone here in a rigorous two day visit. He officially started as head of Eton School this past July. Russell attended a Montessori school in Miami as Dr. Smith learns origami from sixth grade student Jonathan at the 2012 Culture Fair. a young boy and then finished his secondary education at a boarding school in England. He returned to the US to pursue his studies at the University of Miami where he received a BA, an MA and later a PhD, all in History. Russell taught Middle School in the public schools and then eventually made his way into independent schools. Before Eton, he taught Middle School History 2701 Bel-Red Road, Bellevue, WA 98008
and Social Studies at the Alexander Dawson School in Las Vegas and then became Head of the Middle School. Russell and his wife, Rebecca, are enjoying being here in the Pacific Northwest and are happily living close to the lake in Kirkland.
Coffee with Russell Russell invites people to either come to one of the Coffees that we have scheduled here at school or to make an appointment to come in to chat. The Coffees are a great way to learn about Russell’s background and hear how supportive and enthusiastic he is of our amazing Eton program. He understands and beautifully articulates a vision of the evolution of Eton that has been created by faculty and staff here over the years. There is a coffee scheduled for 9:00 am on Thursday, November 15, in the Activity Room in the Main Building.
