Let Us Help You

Imagine the Possibilities! P

icture this. You just moved in, and your home is a blank slate. Then you move in with your furniture, and it just doesn’t feel the same as it did when it was a blank slate. It’s also very common to live in a home for 20+ years and start to get tired of it. You loved the way you furnished it then, but over time it just doesn’t feel right anymore. It might be that your furniture no longer matches the character of the house, but it could also be that your style has changed – and that’s okay. It’s normal for our style and tastes to change over the years. Think about it, none of us are wearing what we wore 20 years ago, so why is your home still using the same furniture from then? Let your home reflect who you are now. As interior designers, we wear many hats: designer, decorator, styler, project manager, ordering, receiving, installer, you name it, but one of the many ways we help our clients is by giving them peace of mind. We do this by letting them see their space in a few different ways before deciding on their new path forward. Let’s go behind the scenes on a recent project where we helped a client update their space for who they are now. On the left, you can see a before image of a living room that was originally designed in the ‘90s. These clients love their home, and they loved this room at the time it was designed, but the homeowners were beginning to be tired of it. They loved the window and an original oil painting above the fireplace that they purchased when they first bought the house, but the rest of the room was no longer serving them. At this point, they had begun to hate the floors as well and wanted a simpler look. Another concern was the darkness of the space and lack of light. Additionally, they wanted a more comfortable seating arrangement that allowed the two of them to watch tv but have space for their adult children to also feel comfortable in the space and watch tv with them when they visit. After we met with the clients, we established a budget, took “before” pictures, and measured the space. Then we went back to the studio and got to

work. We took the information that we learned from the clients of their needs and wants for the space - as well as their style preferences, and we came up with a few layouts and color combinations that pulled inspiration from the color palette in their oil painting and created corresponding furnishing options to bring it all to life. You can see in the two proposed 3D room render concepts, how different each of the rooms feel, while satisfying their needs. Both layouts move the tv from the built ins that flank the fireplace and move those to the long walls. This provides an opportunity for more seating and a larger tv to be viewed from more angles. It also removes the occasional glare from the door and window. For comfort, reclining sofas or a pair of leather reclining chairs are shown for a more ergonomic and comfortable tv viewing. In both layouts, a larger rug anchors the space and adds lightness and pattern. A lighter paint color in a more neutral hue added a touch brightness, and lets the faux finish on the ceiling become a star in the room again. A pair of floor lamps flank the media piece as well as a pair of table lamps on either side of the sofa to create a more balanced arrangement of light radially throughout the space. Large mirrors on either side

of the doors help reflect more of the light in the space as well as reflect the built-in bookcases on the other side of the room. Behind the bookends we added a dark grasscloth to accent her white collectibles and accessories and continue the rich color of the leather recliners.

In the end, the layout with 2 recliners and a sofa in between won, and the colors selected featured an aqua and dark teal upholstery with jewel toned accents in a plaid fabric as well as that pulled from the oil painting. The furniture features a Continued on page 4A ...

I

Janucary Insights From the Publisher t’s a new year. But you knew that. Flipping the page of our calendar from 2025 to 2026 tends to prompt thoughts of change, but you knew that, too. For some reason, January 1 gives us psychological permission to draw a line and forget the mistakes of the past and encourages us to resolutely resolve, “This year, I’m going to see this goal through to the end.”

But where to start. Sometimes, we have so many things we want to fix or make better, we get overwhelmed and just don’t know where to start (at least that’s what happens to me). Maybe you want to redesign your office, living room, or garage. Maybe you need to finally sit down with a financial advisor or just start saving more. Or, you might want to make some positive changes in your own look and feel. Here’s a few goal setting tips I’ve learned over the years (though I often have to remind myself about them):

Whatever your focus will be for 2026, it is important to make a commitment and then follow through on it. Goals left to whither tend to drain us mentally. But taking steps toward your goals, any step, tends to motivate and energize.

If your list of resolutions, like mine, is as long as your arm, and you don’t know where to start, try starting with the one that bugs you the most; think about how great it will feel to lift that weight off your mind. The mental energy boost that you’ll gain is a huge byproduct of finally getting it done! That extra energy spurs motivation to attack the other items on your list – even if it’s not New Years. Just take on one item at a time – no matter how small. Like the joke says, “How do you eat an elephant? – One bite at a time!” I’ve also found it’s important to keep your focus ONLY on the bite you’re currently chewing. We at East Tennessee’s Mountain Views are celebrating a milestone this year. 2026 marks our 25th year sharing the best of what East Tennessee has to offer with our friends and neighbors. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you, our loyal advertisers and readers, for helping to make Mountain Views successful. Continue to send us your suggestions and comments, as we always appreciate your input. So, Happy New Year to all, and we wish you a very healthy and prosperous 2026!

One of our favorite details is a custom faux iron treatment that enhances the architecture of the window and adds interest to the window without removing the view or the light. The pattern features a large-scale stain glass motif proportional to the window. We repeated this element in the large picture window in the foyer to continue the new architectural detail throughout the home. The final result speaks for itself, and all within the client’s proposed budget. In addition to the furniture and window treatment selections, we helped this couple select new flooring as well as freshen up other areas in their home such as their kitchen, dining room, bedroom, and foyer. You can see in the final image just how different this room feels compared to what it was like in the beginning. We are grateful that we were able to help them transform their home into a place they are happy to spend another 20 years in. “Working with Sandy and Rachael at Decorating Den Interiors was an outstanding experience. My Unexpected Journey of Joy

F

or the past several years, it has been both a joy and an honor to write this monthly column about Our PLACE for East Tennessee’s Mountain Views. I hope my words have offered comfort, encouragement, and understanding to families walking the difficult path of dementia care. As this is my final column, I want to share my unexpected journey of joy that Our PLACE —and everyone connected to it—has brought into my life. My involvement began while I was recuperating from ankle surgery, when one of the “angels” in our community, Ginny Ranck, called to ask if I would consider writing this column. I said yes, not realizing then how deeply I would come to admire the Board of Directors, financial supporters, staff, volunteers, participants, and caregivers who surround Our PLACE with such dedication and heart. That admiration has only grown. I have seen firsthand the profound love and care shared with participants living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Our PLACE is truly the best day program in our region for both families and their loved ones— and I only wish the opportunity had existed when my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s years ago. What began as a vision by Sue Newman following her husband’s diagnosis has flourished through the leadership of the Board of Directors, now chaired by Rob McCoy. Today, Our PLACE continues to offer evidence-based memory care, meaningful engagement, respite and emotional support for caregivers, and vital education and resources for families throughout the community. There are not enough words to describe the care and intention that go into planning each day’s activities. Sarah, Brandi, Amanda, and the Program Assistants greet every participant with a smile that conveys warmth, dignity, and genuine

Pickin’ and Grinnin’

8A • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, January 2026

O

By Bo Carey

ur band was playing a Knoxville appearance last week at Buddy’s Banquet Hall, a place known for bluegrass music far and wide. Someone asked how long our group, the Early Morning String Dusters, had been together. Frankly, I couldn’t remember, but our lead singer quickly pointed out it’s going on 48 years. Well, that is an eternity for any bluegrass band, as not many musicians can stay together that long. Having said that, I’d like to use this column to pay tribute to the bandmates who have made it fun...not work...for almost half a century. Indeed, the cliche “pickin and grinnin” defines string music, but it is particularly appropriate for “the Dusters.” That’s because our niche is Bo Giving A History Tour as much comedy (grinning) as it is music (picking). In 1978, three Loudon natives began putting a band together in Knoxville. Guitarist Oscar Tedford and mandolinist Sam Carey were singing some pretty good harmonies and invited me to be their fiddle player. Next, they added a banjo and bass player who were real pioneers in the group but eventually had to give it up for day jobs and raising families. That opened the door for Bill Rasnick on banjo and Mark Jones on mandolin, allowing brother Sam to shift to the upright bass. Sam and I grew up playing multiple stringed instruments, but our childhood heroes were Homer and Jethro, the guitar & mandolin duo internationally famous for their hilarious parodies of classic tunes. Those two greats were originally billed as the Stringdusters before they tied up with Chet Atkins and big contracts with RCA Records. We had toyed with taking on our heroes’ former name in some form, but it took an all night jam session (we were all in our 20’s then) to make it real. Wiping off the strings at sunrise, the name just clicked - we are the Early Morning String Dusters! In appropriate fashion, our first paying gig was an “early morning” breakfast event at the University of Tennessee. My theory for how it’s lasted so long is that we have so much fun and enjoy playing together. If it was about the money, we wouldn’t have lasted a month. We have had the pleasure of playing at the Bijou Theater, the Appalachian Heritage

Band members have played at William and Mary in Virginia, bluegrass festivals all over the south and for U.S. Senators and Tennessee governors. That sounds boastful, so let’s clear the air. Individually, Bo Carey is not a great musician... a clown and decent front man, but not a gifted violinist. Reality is that I’m surrounded by four very good musicians who have been successful in other bands, and they are all fine vocalists as well. And like me, they’ll all try just about anything to get a laugh. So, here’s to the aging boys in the band - may we keep playing as long as our fingers hold out. Surefire Predictions

10A • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, January 2026

T

By Joe Roybal

rying to glimpse the future is an inherent human obsession. Picture shamans puzzling over bones scattered in the dust, or studying the entrails of sacrificed animals – behaviors that amuse us today. More recently, there’s been a fascination with the musings of 15th-century thinker Nostradamus, who some claim foresaw (via his vague quatrains) the French Revolution, Napoleon, Hitler, and the 9/11 terrorism. Prediction encompasses both fortune-telling and prophecy. Fortune-telling (divination) is more secular, while prophecy carries a religious context. An online A.I. summary explains their appeal this way: “they offer a sense of control, reduce anxiety, and can be intellectually stimulating – allowing us to prepare for the future, make better decisions, and even engage in imaginative thought.” This fascination has sold millions of books and millions of hours in consultations. Many would be surprised to learn, however, that the top work for prediction (that is, prophecy) is the Bible at more than five billion copies sold! Most folks have some awareness of the Bible’s lessons – David and Goliath, the Good Samaritan, etc. Less known is that almost a third of the Bible’s content is prophecy, and half of those thousands of prophecies have already occurred. What’s more, if fulfilled, they occurred just as foretold – with those regarding the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ among the most astonishing. Written by 40 authors over 1,500 years, the Bible is the basis of Christianity and considered by believers as inspired by God Himself (2Timothy 3:16). The significance of biblical prophecy is that these are not the musings of men, but messages communicated by God through His prophets (2Peter 1:21) “For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” This divinely-inspired prophecy includes the foretelling of historical events (many confirmed by contemporary histories and modern archaeology), the coming of the Messiah, and the end times of humanity. In a world full of confusion, anxiety and loneliness, the Bible offers forgiveness, purpose and salvation, and is THE best source to learn what is right and wrong in God’s eyes. It is a book of redemption loaded with lessons you can take to the bank – here and in the hereafter. Led by Pastors David Talley and Kem Lindsay, First Baptist Church Tellico Village (FBCTV) is a welcoming community of believers studying God’s Word. Join us by attending or streaming our Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. Visit FBCTV.org for more information. Pastor Dave’s prayer: “Lord, we owe You a debt of gratitude for Your wisdom and

perfect knowledge in revealing what is to come and Your goodness and mercy in allowing us to see those things actually come to pass. You have proven repeatedly that You are the sovereign Ruler of the universe, so help all who read this to trust what the Bible says about what is still to come and to see You in Your glory and to worship You in Your majesty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.” FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF TELLICO VILLAGE 205 Chota Road, Loudon, TN 37774 (865) 408-0110 www.fbctv.org

NEW BEGINNINGS: A Season of Renewal in Christ “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

A Fresh Start Rooted in Faith

Every new beginning is a reminder of God’s promise of renewal. Just as dawn breaks after the night, so too does the Lord invite us into fresh chapters of life. New Beginnings are not simply about turning the page—they are about trusting that God is writing the story.

Hope Beyond the Past

Scripture teaches us that God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23). For those carrying burdens or regrets, New Beginnings offer freedom. They remind us that yesterday’s trials do not define tomorrow’s blessings. In Christ, we are given the courage to step forward, leaving behind what hinders us.

Community in Renewal

New Beginnings are not journeys we walk alone. Churches, ministries, and neighbors are called to be companions in renewal—lifting one another up, offering encouragement, and celebrating transformation. Whether through prison ministry, outreach programs, or simple acts of kindness, we embody Christ’s love when we help others begin again.

Testimonies of Transformation

>> Kairos Prison Ministry: One woman shared how, after years of feeling forgotten, she encountered God’s love during a Kairos weekend. “I walked in broken, but I walked out knowing I was a daughter of the King,” she said. Her new beginning was not freedom from prison walls, but freedom in Christ. >>Community Outreach: A local father, once struggling to provide for his children, found hope through the support of Our PLACE and Food Lion donations. “I never thought I’d see my kids smile again at the dinner table. Now, every meal feels like a miracle.” >> Church Renewal: A retired teacher began tutoring children in the congregation, discovering fresh purpose. “I thought my season of teaching was over, but God gave me a new classroom—one filled with laughter, hope, and His Word.”

Living Into God’s Promise

New Beginnings challenge us to live with expectancy. Isaiah 43:19 declares, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” As a community, we are invited to perceive God’s work among us—through changed lives, restored relationships, and renewed purpose.

A Call to Embrace Renewal

As we enter this season, let us embrace New Beginnings with faith and gratitude. May we trust God’s hand in every transition, knowing that He is the author of hope. In doing so, we not only honor the past but also step boldly into the future He has prepared.

Avoid This Expensive Financial Mistake People Make After Age 50 By Yvonne Marsh, CFP®, CPA

W

hen people think about financial mistakes later in life, they often imagine dramatic ones — panicselling during a market downturn or chasing the latest hot investment. In reality, one of the most expensive mistakes I see after age 50 is much quieter: assuming your investment and tax strategies are being actively adjusted when they aren’t. Many people in their 50s and early 60s already work with an advisor. They’ve saved diligently, stayed invested, and followed professional guidance for years. Everything appears to be “on track,” so it’s natural to assume the strategies in place will continue to serve them well. But this is exactly when those strategies need to evolve. An investment mix that made sense at 45 may no longer fit at 65. Tax strategies that worked during peak earning years can become inefficient as income sources change. As retirement approaches, decisions about asset location, withdrawal sequencing, and risk management begin to matter as much as market returns. The issue usually isn’t neglect. It’s inertia. I often meet people who have an advisor but haven’t had a thorough review of their investment allocation or tax strategy in years. Portfolios haven’t been recalibrated for

retirement income, tax decisions aren’t coordinated with investments, and assumptions haven’t been tested against real-world retirement scenarios. Nothing feels wrong — but small inefficiencies quietly compound over time. That’s where the real cost comes in. An outdated allocation, missed tax-saving opportunities, or poorly coordinated withdrawal strategy may not cause immediate concern, but over a long retirement, those gaps can translate into significant dollars lost and unnecessary stress. The encouraging news is that this mistake is also highly fixable. A focused second-opinion review can help confirm whether your investments still match your life stage, whether your tax strategy is working efficiently, and whether the two are properly aligned — without requiring a full financial planning overhaul. If it’s been a few years since your investments and tax strategy were last reviewed together, the start of a new year is a natural time to take a fresh look at your finances. GOLF PRO TIPS by Sharon Lemelman

Sharon recently received her Quarter Century Membership marking 25 years of work done in the name of The Professional Golfers’ Association of America.

I

Grip

n golf, although boring, you must nail down your basics. Number 1 is the grip. The grip is so important because your starting grip controls the club face. Sorry to burst your bubble but hitting a golf ball is not a hand/eye Sharon Lemelman coordinated motion. The leading hand (left hand for right-handed players) needs to have the grip close to the lifeline of your hand. The heel pad is ON TOP OF THE GRIP. If the club is palmed, then the wrists won’t hinge, and the elbows will hinge instead. The leading thumb (left for right-handed players) will be slightly on the left side of the club and the right hand (for right-handed players) will cover the left thumb. Grip pressure is also a necessity to maximize your clubbed speed. If all your fingers are clenched on the club, you have eliminated the ability for your wrists to freely hinge. The last 3 fingers of the leading hand (left for right- handed players) can be firm but keep the thumb and index finger relaxed and the trailing hand as a support. Remember, the purpose of the hands is not to control the face of the club but only to hold the club. Do not control your swing with your hands but swing your arms instead.

Happy New Year and Happy Savings!

J

by Brenda Bryan

anuary is a great time to reassess your winter wardrobe. There is finally time to go through all of the pieces hanging in your closet that haven’t been worn yet this year and either donate them or take them to your nearest consignment shop. Whichever you choose, you’ve begun the process of updating your own winter wardrobe while selections are still great and on sale! At The Lily Pad, our sales are huge semi-annual events which take place in January and July. Our winter merchandise is now 25% off, and on Saturday, January January 24th, at 10:00 am, every piece that’s left goes to 50% off! Also, open Sunday January 25th - 12 ‘til 5 for this special event! We’ve found this method to be quite effective to not only clear out the store, but also to pass tremendous savings on to our customers. As the winter merchandise goes on sale, our “La Sale Boutique” (the big room in the rear of the store) goes to 70% off. Thus, the clearing out begins as we ready ourselves and the store for a brand-new season! Spring fashions have been ordered, new, fresh looks are arriving, and the holiday decorations have been put away for another year.

We’ll look forward to seeing so many of our customers and friends during our unbelievable sale days. If you’ve every spent a day at Filene’s Basement in Boston, The Lily Pad is almost as wild on the first days of our sale! Plan to spend some time with us as you visit with friends and neighbors, every arm loaded with bargains and having the time of our lives! What a fun day during a not-so-fun month… it’s a social event you won’t want to miss! At the Lily Pad, we reflect on how blessed we have been this year to again be a part of your lives. We truly appreciate the vote of confidence you place in us to be your fashion headquarters! Our most sincere wishes from the entire Lily Pad staff for a happy and healthy 2026!

East Tennessee Area Beauty:

Frost Flowers

Photographing the beauty of the Tennessee area, and the wildlife who call it home.

By Kalley Cook

ou might be driving on a cold morning and possibly notice what looks to be litter on the ground next to the side of the road, which is what it looks like to me anyway. But, on closer inspection, you will see something more beautiful called a frost flower. They only form on roughly 30 species of plants worldwide; in Tennessee you can find them on certain native plants such as white crownbeard, dittany or wingstem. The phenomenon is apparently rare, but I’ve witnessed it many times. Frost flower formations can only be found in the morning time and only form when the temperature is just right. They only appear in late fall/early winter and form when freezing air meets damp ground with unfrozen soil which allows the plant roots to still draw water up into the stems. Then when freezing air hits the stem, it causes the water inside the stems to expand which causes the stem to crack and water is pulled through the cracks creating these beautiful formations. People describe them as spun glass, cotton candy, or ribbon and some look very unique and beautiful, but all are so delicate. You can have frost flowers right in your own backyard by just planting native plants and holding back on the trimming until further into winter. I’ve seen them more often than I have photographed them, but I was out one morning recently and saw them and thought to myself this will make a good article for the wintertime and decided to photograph one! During our second fall here in East Tennessee, we witnessed hile this one is more of a simple and small frost flower, it gives you an idea on how they form on the stem. I loved how the morning light was shining on this one and the only one I photographed that morning. our first frost flowers in our yard. – Kathy Rose, ETMV

JanuaryIn the Garden

H

by

Lisa Grugin

appy New Year! I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season and are ready to start thinking about 2026 in your yard/garden. January is an interesting month. The holidays are over, the seed catalogs are arriving, and the yard outside looks like it stayed up too late on New Year’s Eve. In addition, the weather is erratic, it gets dark early, and you want to hibernate like a bear. It doesn’t feel like it’s time to start planning a garden yet, but don’t be fooled! This is one of the most important months for setting up your garden’s success. Let’s take a look at the four essential Ps of January gardening: planning, pruning, preparing, and planting. Planning Start by grabbing a notebook (hopefully the one I suggested you use last year to write down what did well, what didn’t, and what you wanted to change) and plan what you want your garden to look like. Do you want bigger beds? Smaller beds? More vegetables? Fewer vegetables? Now’s the time to refine your layout, rotate crops in your veggie garden, and set intentions for a more manageable, beautiful landscape. Planning also means doing what you can as early as you can so spring doesn’t hit you like a runaway train. There will be some beautiful days this month to get outside and walk around. Think about which plants and hardscapes you want to add, subtract, or relocate. If you are going to need professional help, get on their schedule ASAP. It is very sad to have plans for spring that have to be pushed to fall because you didn’t get on the landscaper’s schedule in time. The best part of January planning? You can also do it in pajamas, under a blanket, with hot tea in hand. No weeds involved. Pruning For those of you that have been chomping at the bit to start whacking on your plants, now is the time. While plants are snoozing, you can give them a good shaping because, well, wouldn’t you want to be asleep if someone is cutting on you? January is a great time for pruning fruit trees, berries, and many non-spring blooming deciduous shrubs. Peaches, apples, pears, figs - you name it - they all appreciate a winter trim. Remove crossing branches, thin the center for airflow, and cut out any dead or damaged wood.

The goal is to shape the tree now so it can focus its energy on good fruit production later. Blackberries and raspberries also benefit from a winter haircut. Clear out canes that fruited last year and tidy up the remaining ones so they don’t create an impenetrable mass. Shrubs such as roses, crape myrtles (NO crape murder!), butterfly bushes, and panicle hydrangeas are just a few that can be pruned. Remember that you are doing surgery, so please don’t start chopping until you educate yourself. Google, YouTube, and even ChatGPT can give you step by step directions. Also, remember that if you prune spring bloomers like azaleas, you will have no bloomers. Preparing Think of January prep as the gardening equivalent of sharpening your pencils before class. It may not be glamorous, but it makes everything easier later. Start by checking your tools. Did your pruners get gummed up? Are your gloves missing a partner? Did your mower gnaw the grass off because the blades were so dull? Give tools a good cleaning and sharpening and replace those that have worn out. Next comes soil prep, though that doesn’t mean extensive digging yet. What you can do is top-dress with compost where the ground isn’t frozen. The freeze-thaw cycle will help work nutrients in naturally. If you’re planning new beds, now is a great time to lay down cardboard or map out the borders. Please don’t get overzealous in your cleanup! Our pollinators sleep in stems and plant debris. Planting Surprising as it may sound, January can be a good time to plant. While you won’t be tucking tomatoes into the ground (please don’t), you can plant several hardy favorites. This is an excellent month for trees and shrubs, which are both cheaper and easier to establish in cool weather. In the vegetable garden, you can sow cold-hardy crops like spinach and some lettuces. With a cold frame or low tunnel, you can even keep them growing steadily through the winter. January may not be the greatest month for gardeners, but don’t let it get you down. Every plan drafted, branch pruned, tool cleaned, bed prepared, and seed sown is a promise to your future self. Let the hope of spring pull you through the darkness of winter.

A RESOLUTION TO KEEP

W

By Connie Ferraro – Tellico Hearing Solutions

hat’s your New Year’s resolution? With the start of the New Year come all the New Year’s resolutions. Some people try to make simple changes like joining a club or breaking out of your comfort zone once and a while. Others make more complicated goals, such as losing weight, breaking a bad habit, or establishing good ones. Everyone’s resolutions are different. But there’s one thing everyone knows about New Year’s resolutions. Hardly anyone ever keeps them. Maybe keeping the resolution was more difficult than we expected, or else life simply got in the way. Sometimes it’s because that resolution was never very realistic to begin with. Whatever the reason, the result is the same. But this New Year, we’ve got a simple and achievable resolution for you. This year, resolve to get your hearing tested. We here at Tellico Hearing Solutions want to help you find out if a hearing device is right for you. Our cutting edge technology helps us perform complete and thorough testing here in our office, or even in the comfort of your own home. After a comprehensive testing of your current hearing, we’ll tell you if a hearing aid is appropriate to you and fit you with the best device for your hearing situation and budget. If needed, we can

A New Year’s Resolution for Better Hearing!

additionally provide you with devices to make everyday living easier for you, such as listening devices for use with your phone, TV, or other audio equipment. Thanks to new technology, we no longer have to settle for only being able to hear certain volumes or frequencies. We can help you enjoy the simple pleasures, like a conversation with your family or a good song on the radio, better than you’ve been able to in years. Getting your hearing tested can be a scary thought, as can the thought of having to adjust to a hearing aid. We get it. After all, Robert, our Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist, wears a hearing aid himself, and he’s very familiar with what it’s like to deal with hearing loss. But he’s also experienced the joy of getting his hearing back through his hearing device, and he wants to help others experience the same thing for themselves. That’s why we can guarantee you’ll receive compassionate, thoughtful care and the best hearing aid available for you. Our resolution is to provide you with the best options available to resolve your hearing loss. But ultimately the decision on whether or not to take advantage of those options is up to you. The New Year is the perfect opportunity to take the first step and schedule a hearing test and evaluation of your hearing situation. Unlike most other resolutions, it’s free, it’s simple, it’s easy, and it can actually change your life for the better. So, make getting a hearing test your New Year’s resolution. We’ll be here to help you every step of the way. Tellico Hearing Solutions, PLLC 865-635-1887 contact@TellicoHearingSolutions.com www.tellicohearingsolutions.com

n 2017, when the Henrys moved to Tennessee from North Carolina, they were sure to include a few convenient roll-out drawers in the kitchen cabinets of their house when it was being built. They quickly became aware that the limited number of roll-out shelves actually made it more difficult to access the items in the deep lower section of their cabinets. Not big fans of resorting to dropping to their knees on the floor in order to reach items way in the back, they decided that more roll-out shelving would be the best solution. They had seen ads for Shelf Help, noticing that it was a local company, and gave them a call for a free estimate. After a very positive meeting with the owner of Shelf Help, where they were able to see product samples, discuss solutions for more challenging areas - like cabinets under sinks - and an installation time line, the Henrys were ready to place an order. And what an order it was! “After Shelf Help gave us an estimate, we were so impressed with them and their product that we immediately

“We can’t say enough great things about Shelf Help, their products, their timeliness, or their installation. We are very happy campers!!” - The Henrys ordered more than 40 roll-out shelves,” said Dick Henry. “We decided to install them everywhere there were cabinet shelves in the entire house. We ordered them for the kitchen, the laundry, the butler’s pantry, our rec room, and the master bath, which has his and her sink areas. We also ordered shelves for under the kitchen, laundry, and bathroom sinks where we never thought we could have them. Shelf Help can come up with a solution for anywhere you want roll-outs.” The Henrys were able to have their practical and useful roll-out shelving installed in just a couple of weeks - as promised! The roll-out drawers fit right into any home’s

existing cabinets or pantry, providing easier access, better organization, and maximum use available storage space. Shelf Help was able to complete the installation in less than a day so that disruption was limited. Excited to have their cabinet access and function restored, the Henrys could not be happier with their Shelf Help roll-out shelving. Jane Henry reflects, “Never a day goes by that we don’t mention how glad we are to have the many rollouts. The quality of the shelves is outstanding, it can’t be beat!” If you are experiencing challenges reaching items in your cabinets, Shelf Help has the understanding and know-how to evaluate, design, measure, and professionally install solutions tailored to your needs and budget. Locally owned and operated, let Shelf Help make the most of your home’s kitchen, bath, or pantry storage space. Shelf Help 865.675.5098 ShelfHelpTN.com

Enhancing Your Garage Flooring This New Year: Not All Coatings Are Equal

A

re you tired of cringing at the sight of your garage floor marred by pits and stains? Has it become a hazard with crumbling concrete, cracks, or slick spots from years of oil leaks? As the gateway to your home and often the largest room, the garage deserves attention to transform it into a safe extension of your living space. Homeowners are turning to concrete coatings to achieve this, but it’s essential to recognize that not all options are created equal. According to Brian Falls, co-owner of PremierGarage of Knoxville, a leading garage flooring company in the area, the choice typically boils down to epoxy or polyurea systems. Falls emphasizes that polyurea stands out as the most advanced and durable coating in concrete flooring technology, providing quality you can rely on. Here are the additional benefits of opting for a polyurea system for your garage floor: 1. Unparalleled Durability: Polyurea withstands extreme pressure, heavy impacts, and spills, offering superior protection against common garage chemicals like gasoline and paint thinner. It boasts flexibility, up to 20 times stronger than epoxy, and is

UV-resistant with no harmful VOCs. Importantly, it withstands high temperatures, preventing issues like hot tires lifting the coating. 2. Enhanced Safety: Polyurea, combined with polymer paint flakes, creates a slip-resistant surface, reducing the risk of accidents on wet floors. The coating is also antibacterial, stain-resistant, and non-toxic. 3. Rapid Installation and Longevity: Unlike standard epoxy systems that take several days to cure, polyurea hardens within hours and is ready for use in a day. PremierGarage’s polyurea floor coating, backed by a 10-year warranty, retains its color and finish integrity. 4. Easy Maintenance: Spills are effortlessly cleaned with a paper towel, and occasional cleaning with water and vinegar keeps the floor looking new. PremierGarage relies on our expertise and the experience of our manufacturers to produce the highest quality garage floor system on the market. Derived from the resinous floor industry’s research, testing, and knowledge. Your garage floor may not be the first thing that comes to

mind when you think of home improvement, but it plays a vital role in aesthetics and functionality. Our team is uniquely talented and qualified with 100+ years of combined experience with these resinous floor systems. We are a team of people that install concrete coatings as our core business. It is our primary focus, which means our integrity, consistency, and ongoing success is dependent upon our being the best at what we do. Investing in a polyurea garage floor not only enhances your home’s value but also combines beauty with strength, proving to be a worthwhile investment.
