No Need to Move the Party Inside!
When family and friends are outside enjoying a special event or just a time of relaxation, why be forced to bring your party back inside because of an unexpected afternoon shower or that relentless summertime sun? The solution is simple thanks to Undercover Systems.
If your home has a raised deck, Undercover Systems will install a modular designed roof system under the underside of your deck. Their patented roof/ceiling system, consisting of individual ceiling panels and integrated gutters, collect rain water and melting snow or ice, channeling water and debris from the panels to the system’s perimeter gutters and downspout system. While protecting you from rain, this same ceiling system will also provide much needed shade during those “Dog Days” of summer.
Homeowners appreciate the fact they can select from a variety of colors and panel profiles to create that showcase quality look that not only enhances their home’s exterior appearance, but also increases the value of their homes. “But be careful not to confuse Undercover Systems with the competition which uses generic, off-theshelf components purchased from the local
big-box retailers,” says local Undercover Systems owner, Jim Conn. “Every system we install is custom engineered, designed and manufactured by Undercover System specifically for your home’s raised deck. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here at Undercover Systems.”
Here are some other important facts to consider when selecting an underdeck roofing system:
» The Undercover System is self-supported by its structurally engineered load bearing gutter system that attaches to the inside perimeter of the area being covered.

JJune Insights From the Publisher
une ushers in the good old summertime in East Tennessee and temperatures have already been heating up. As a child growing up in Northern California, June meant the beginning of summer vacation and three months of freedom! Soon after school got out, we’d load up the trailer, hitch up the boat, and depart for one of the many beautiful camping locations around to enjoy God’s beauty – and get in some water-skiing. As soon as we’d make camp, and my chores were finished, I’d get on my bicycle and explore the area, basking in the cool mountain air and the gorgeous trees!
I love trees! I guess that’s one of the reasons we chose East Tennessee to make our home. I get that same “Aaahhh” feeling when I explore the gorgeous cool wooded areas around Tellico Lake and the Smoky Mountains as I did as a child exploring the northern Sierras.
June also marks the month in which we gather with family to celebrate Father’s Day. And although my dad has been gone now for a number of years, I still reflect back on memories of him when Father’s Day arrives. Memories of camping trips from Yosemite to Yellowstone, of going down the Super Slide, of accompanying him when he sang solos at church, of walking down the aisle with him at my wedding, of him insisting on fixing my sink for me on Thanksgiving, and so much more.
Dad taught me a lot. He taught me to read, to always try my best, and about fixing things, just to name a few. He also taught me to love and revere The Lord. Even though he’s been gone for almost three decades, I still think about sharing things with him and asking his advice. I miss him.
In addition to my dad, other fathers come to mind. Our only son is a relatively new father, recently blessed with his second child. Watching him dote on his precious little ones reminds me of watching my husband doting on our son at that age; another example of children learning from their parents and taking on many of their traits. Seems so much of life comes full circle. I’m grateful and proud of the father I had. I’m grateful and proud of the father my husband is. I’m grateful and proud of the father my son is already becoming. And, I’m especially grateful to my Father in heaven who blessed my life with these three wonderful men.
So, to all dads - and to those who fill the role of dad, we wish you a very

» This patented Under-deck Ceiling System does NOT attach to your home’s deck joists – no nailing, stapling or joist modification.
» To protect your deck joists, NO water or debris are brought into direct contact with your home’s deck joists.
So why are these facts important you might ask?
Architecturally recognized to promote the health of your deck, Undercover Systems modular, self-supporting Under-deck Ceiling Systems are designed to maximize the air flow in and around your deck joists ensuring their longevity. Systems that attach directly to deck joists can impair the free flow of air which can dramatically reduce the life of your deck.

Can You Hear Me Now?
By RoBeRt FeRRaRo – tellico HeaRing SolutionSWhy you should get your hearing tested sooner than later: The sound of silence did wonders for Simon & Garfunkel, but for us mere mortals the silence caused by hearing loss is nothing to sing about. Hearing loss is a major issue for an estimated more than 50 million Americans. But too many ignore professional advice to use hearing aids, have not had their hearing tested, and may not even realize that they have a problem. But in fact, hearing loss ranks just behind arthritis and heart disease as a leading cause of disability. Hearing loss can be caused by many different factors such as advancing age, a noisy work environment, being subjected to loud music, viruses, ear infections, and even some prescribed and over-the-counter drugs. Sometimes, the cause is unknown. But all research points to an increased risk for dementia and falls. The social effects of hearing loss are as serious as the safety issues. It can lead to social isolation by limiting engaging in conversation because it’s just too much effort to try to keep up hearing it all. This leads to “dropping out” and a diminished quality of life. A recent study on healthy aging done by the University of Michigan Institute for Healthcare Policy & Innovation reported that more than 75% of Americans over age 50 have not been asked about their hearing by their primary health care provider. Lack of knowledge about how hearing loss affects people with regard to their long-term health (for example, higher risk for cognitive decline and impact to their psychosocial quality of life) is often ignored. Other studies strongly recommend that anyone over the age
of 50 who has never or has not recently had a hearing test should do so, if only for the sake of getting a baseline for future testing. And anyone over the age of 60, whether or not they currently have hearing aids, should be re-tested annually to check on any progression of hearing loss.
Other factors that may cause people to hold back on getting tested are cost and the vanity and stigma issue. Some people think of hearing aids as a sign of weakness or defect. But we must move past that! They should realize them as a valuable tool to maximize their overall quality of life. We seem to be much more accepting of glasses than hearing aids whereas both are merely tools to help with a sensory-based decline. And as far as cost goes – at Tellico Hearing Solutions we provide tests to analyze your current hearing condition at NO CHARGE. And more insurance programs are (finally!) picking up some or all of the costs of the devices.
So please don’t put it off any longer and call us today to schedule your FREE testing appointment.

Adventures of the Early Church
As the early church came under persecution and Stephen was stoned, the Apostles and church leaders left Jerusalem, dispersing in all directions. These early leaders were now on an adventure to preach the Gospel wherever they went. God was able to use the persecution to spread the Good News of Jesus to cities in Asia Minor and then into Europe. The Christian Church exploded as thousands of Jews and Gentiles became believers in saving work of Jesus Christ. Pastor David Talley will continue his study in Acts of how the Christian Faith continues to spread throughout the world, even amidst the terrible persecution Christians are facing in some countries today.
Here at First Baptist Church of Tellico Village we try to make everyone feel at home. We have always been known as a friendly church caring for the needs of our members and guests. We do livestream our Sunday morning Worship Service beginning at 10:30 AM. If you would like to watch our service, simply go to FBCTV.org and click on the livestream link. We also serve a wonderful dinner every Wednesday evening and guests are welcome. Call the Church office for details at 865-408-0110.
If you are looking for a church home, come and worship with us as Pastor Dave teaches us about ‘Acts of the Apostles’ and shares the Words of Jesus. Enjoy a worshipful experience with our worship team that includes choir and orchestra. Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples and we take that charge quite seriously. Under the leadership of Associate Pastor Kem Lindsay, we offer several adult Bible study options at 9:00 AM. Sunday Morning Worship Service follows at 10:30 AM. For more info visit FBCTV.org.

KID’S FIRST CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER
By Donna navRatilIf you log into the Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church website the following will pop up on your screen: “Love God; Love our neighbors”. But who are our neighbors? Are they the folks living next door to you, friends you associate with on a regular basis, or the people you worship with on Sunday mornings? Yes, yes, and yes! And then some! Our neighbors are also the folks in our community and beyond who need a helping hand for any number of a variety of reasons. At Shepherd of the Lake, we take loving our neighbors very seriously by reaching out and supporting many organizations surrounding our Tellico Village neighborhood. The Kid’s First Child Advocacy Center in Lenoir City is just one of them!
Under the direction of Chris Evans-Longmire, the Kid’s First Child Advocacy Center ministers to children whose lives have been impacted by acts of severe abuse or violence and drug endangerment. Her staff consists of forensic interviewers & medical
services, sexual assault advocates, family advocates, and therapists. All these services are administered at their offices in Lenoir City at no cost to those they serve. Sadly, the need for such services in the Roane, Meigs, Loudon, and Morgan counties are unbelievably great! And, being a private, non-profit 501c3 organization means the CAC is operating out of an extremely tight budget made up of grants and personal donations. Shepherd of the Lake has been a regular supporter of the CAC both with financial aid and manpower and you can be too! The needs are great. Just providing snacks to children coming in for services amounts to approximately $222 per month! Watch for their community wide fundraisers such as “Soup’s On” or call their office to get on their mailing list and/or to see how you can help. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, nurturing environment where they can be free to explore their surroundings, learn and have fun – basically to just be kids! The Kid’s First Child Advocacy Center aims to do just that!

Thanks for Caregivers and Community
By Diane StReveR anD SaRaH MaRtin FoR Our PlaceWe are filled with gratitude this month for all of the blessings we’ve experienced at Our PLACE
We want to thank Jim Dezzutti for his vision, dedication, and leadership in establishing Our PLACE as a viable, important service to the community. Jim and the Board of Directors developed a business plan, raised the necessary funds, and were able to have the original facility built. With Jim retiring from the Board, Rob McCoy has taken his place as chairman.
We have just completed the Phase 1 building expansion and can now accept more participants into our Alzheimer/Dementia Day Programs. Please contact our Executive Director, Sarah Martin, at 865-757-7222 for more information!
We are proud to announce that Our PLACE received the Loudon County Chamber of Commerce NON-PROFIT OF THE YEAR AWARD for 2024! We also recently received a grant from the Pat Summitt Foundation to enhance outreach and education through Zinnia TV. The channels on Zinnia TV have 10-minute videos on a variety of topics, which are designed to stimulate conversation and engagement while reducing stress and anxiety.
We also are thankful for all who supported the Our PLACE Gala on May 19th! Those who attended had a great meal and wonderful entertainment, but everyone understood the real beneficiaries that evening were the participants, families and caregivers who face Alzheimer’s and dementia every day! We thank all businesses and individuals who provided items for our auction that evening. Please save the date for our next major fundraiser - our annual “Walk to Remember” on October 5th at the Lenoir City Park!
Our Moment of Joy individual this month is Darrell. Darrell is a native East Tennessean who grew up in Hamblin County. He met his wife Sue in Knoxville; they have been married for 66 years and have two children. Darrell spent 30 years with the Air National Guard in Alcoa and traveled to Germany during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. (Darrell was able to share with me just last week the fueling missions he could vividly recall during that time.) He made several trips to Germany, and Sue was able to travel with him through Europe. While in the Air National Guard, Darrell enrolled in night school at UT, majoring in accounting. He earned his CPA degree and would do income tax preparation as well. He retired at age 55 and continued to travel with Sue. They resided in Florida from 2008 to 2023, then moved back to TN.

Darrell has been in the program at Our PLACE since December of 2023, and attends three days a week. Sue felt he would benefit from the program because he was sleeping lots, needed stimulation, and watching TV. He also was isolated from friends, as they were too far to visit with him. His doctor recommended the Pat Summitt Clinic, but Sue already knew of Our PLACE and its program. Darrell loves people, and he has opened up, “blossomed” with the friends he sees there. He is much happier, and delightful to be around. Sue says he can remember names of the other participants in the program, and it is easy to get him up and out those days. Darrell especially loves the music that visiting groups or individuals provide. When he is at Our PLACE, it gives Sue the chance to relax, shop at her own pace, or enjoy sewing for leisure. Sue feels the difficulty with a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia is “you don’t know what to expect.” The joy is in those “bright moments you cherish.”
Our PLACE is an independent, 501©(3) nonprofit that seeks to improve quality of life by providing a day program of social interaction, enrichment, and therapeutic activities in a safe and nurturing environment for adults living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia-related diseases.

Millions of Americans suffer from tooth loss, primarily the result of injury, periodontal disease, or decay. In the past, treatment options included bridges and dentures, but unfortunately, neither option addresses the issue of bone loss of the jawbone that often results from the loss of natural teeth.
One of the major advantages of dental implants is that the implant root, which is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth, actually helps to support and maintain a healthy level of jawbone mass, much the same as your natural teeth. Preventing jawbone loss helps to maintain both your health and a more youthful appearance, preventing the “collapsed” jaw look of those who have experienced significant bone loss of the jaw. The presence of natural tooth roots or implant roots continues to preserve the jawbone through the pressure and stimulus resulting from normal chewing action. This healthy pressure and stimulus is reduced by 90% or more with conventional dentures.
So the positive and healthy implications of dental implants go far beyond just your appearance. With good oral hygiene and regular dental care, your implants can function just like your natural teeth while lasting a lifetime. And with the added advantage of the implants’ roots, you can avoid that sunken, premature appearance that happens when jawbone loss occurs.
At Heritage Family Dentistry in nearby and convenient Farragut, Dr. Jonathan Bradshaw and his team of experienced, caring, and compassionate dental professionals can assist you in making the right choice of dentures or implants, as well as provide family friendly dental care. Heritage Family Dentistry can also assist you with financing to help assure that you receive the dental care you need. eyes to different approaches. We would throw an idea out, and he’d say, “OK…what if we did this?” This is where the fun part came in. Creating together, to build our truly custom dream home.
The sub-contractors of Keener Homes are like a family network. This network of folks, working together for many years, is essential for a successful custom home. If the subs didn’t coordinate, the build could be chaos. We saw the importance with synchronization of the subs with Keener Homes, under the direction of Derek Miller. Finally, the Keener Homes team are truly great people. Kit, Derek, Krisha & team, are skilled professionals, but more importantly, they are great human beings. SAYING YES TO LIFE
By yvonne MaRSH cFP® cPaHow would you answer the question, “What does it mean to be wealthy?” Interestingly, according to the Charles Schwab Modern Wealth Survey 2023, 7 out of 10 people said that their definition of wealthy was “not having to stress over money” and “being able to enjoy experiences”. So for the vast majority of people, wealth is about well-being and the quality of their life experience - not a fixed dollar amount.
So how do we get to that nirvana state of stress-free wealth? It’s different for everyone of course, but I say that it starts with a plan and some deliberate thought. Pretend like you have to drive to Dubuque, Iowa and you set out on your journey with a full tank of gas and yummy snacks, but no map and no plan as to how to get there. You think you’ll just figure it out as you go – until you get hopelessly lost in the middle of Illinois and wish you’d gotten a AAA TripTik (remember those?) or Google mapped it.
I’m just saying that this is how most people approach retirement. They’ve saved up for that full tank of gas and snacks, but they have no map for retirement – no plan as to how they want to experience life after their work stops. In fact, according to that same survey, only 35% of people said they have a written financial plan. No map = no successful journey.
A financial plan also defines the type of experience you’ll have along the way. After years of teaching yourself to say “no” to so many things in life while you’ve been paying to raise the kids (and put them through college), get the mortgage paid off and save…save…save for retirement, it’s a whole new skill to learn how to flip the script and say “yes” to life in retirement. To say yes to that glorious European river cruise, to the thrill of a new car, to the generosity you want to share with your family. It’s hard to say yes when you don’t know if you CAN. What I see happen time and again is that people without a plan ultimately say “no” to retirement glory. They live way below their resource level, playing defense against the potential what-if’s in retirement – whether an unknown health event, a big market correction or just living way longer than they thought they would and running out
of money. But guess what? Their kids inherit the money that was never spent, and the KIDS live the glory; they live the “yes”.
Don’t let that be you. If you don’t have a plan and you’re within 5 years of retirement, it’s time to get one. I promise it’s not difficult or time-consuming. The clarity it will bring, and the incredible retirement you’ll have, is well worth it. Schedule a complimentary 30-minute phone call with me to learn more about how to get started by going to https://calendly.com/yvonnemarsh/connect.

East Tennessee Area Wildlife: PILEATED WOODPECKER
Photographing the beauty of Tennessee, and the wildlife who call it home.
By Kalley CooKWe have 7 different types of woodpeckers in Tennessee, but I’m going to talk about our largest species which is the pileated woodpecker. The pileated is not just the largest woodpecker in Tennessee but also North America. It’s hard to tell by photos just how big they are, but they are roughly the same size as a crow if you’ve never seen one. They are amazing to watch and are actually pretty calm around humans, so it usually makes observing them pretty easy.
Their population is stable and increasing here, so if you don’t have one around your yard now, you probably will eventually - especially if you live near woods. You can attract them to your yard by leaving dead or dying trees or snags on your property alone; they’ll use these to forage, roost or even nest in them. If you don’t live around woods and would like to see one, public parks are great places to observe them. If you can’t see one, just listen - they are very vocal and have a loud piping call that lasts for several seconds which sounds like “wuk, wuk”. I encourage you all to go searching for one. You won’t regret it!

Good Neighbors Make Great Deals While Giving Back
Looking for great deals in gently used and new women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, shoes, accessories, housewares, linens, books, antiques, collectibles, and furniture? Visit the Good Neighbors Shoppe, Lenoir City’s premier resale shop.
In 2001, Loudon County residents Gene and Roberta Burwell dreamed up a giving-back-to-the community store: a simple shop where quality, gently-used merchandise could be donated and sold, with proceeds going directly to Loudon County organizations and residents in need. Over 23 years later, the Good Neighbors Shoppe has grown and expanded beyond Gene and Roberta’s imagination. As GNS grows and changes, maintaining community credibility and respect is priority No. 1. The Good Neighbors Shoppe Board of Directors, which is dedicated to preserving the store’s original ideals, provides handson oversight. Each month the Board thoroughly reviews the organizations and scholarship recipients that receive our financial help.
Proceeds from this successful and growing, all-volunteer, non-profit store are donated to various organizations in Loudon County (and also some in Monroe County), which in turn reach residents in need. In 2023, the Good Neighbors Shoppe recorded over $1 million in sales, of which $825,000 was given in donations of various amounts to local agencies as well as scholarships for Loudon County students. Since its beginning, The Good Neighbors Shoppe has proudly given back over $7,000,000 to those in need.
Staffed by caring volunteers, the Good Neighbors Shoppe opened its doors in 2002, in a small space in downtown Lenoir City. Each year the shop has grown in size and profits, and is now considered a premier, upscale resale shop, highly respected in and around the area.
Some key facts about the Good Neighbors Shoppe are:
» The have over 250 volunteers. No one takes a salary.
» They clean all clothing donated before selling.
» They will pick up large items.
» Their biggest seller in clothing.
» They donate to many local charities and give college and graduate school scholarships.
» They also sell collectibles. The keystone to their success is the generosity of local donors who witness what they have been able to bring to the community. Through hard work and strong friendships, the Good Neighbors Shoppe continues its original mission of helping those in need right here in Loudon County.

Put the “Magic” Back into Your Expensive Your Oriental Rug!
Are you someone who’s hand-picked the perfect (and expensive) Oriental rug for your living space, only to wonder over the years if wear and care is tarnishing its eye-catching beauty? Each Oriental rug is unique with a magic all its own, and yours is no exception. Giving the Gift of an Organized Garage for Father’s Day
Father’s Day is a time to celebrate and honor the dads in our lives. One unique and practical gift idea is an organized garage. For many fathers, the garage is a sanctuary for hobbies, projects, and tools. Transforming this space with customized storage solutions can greatly enhance its functionality and appearance.
Recognized as East Tennessee’s leader in custom garage flooring and storage solutions, PremierGarage has been serving clients in the Tellico area for more than 15 years. Our custom garage cabinets add both function and style, creating a uniform and inviting look. You can tailor the storage to fit your exact needs, incorporating upper and lower cabinets with drawers for organizing sports gear, tools, lawn care items, car cleaning products, holiday decorations, and more.
The customizability of these cabinets is a significant advantage. You can include baskets, drawers, and dividers to suit your storage preferences. Adding adjustable racks above a workbench provides quick access to essential tools and supplies, streamlining your dad’s workflow for any project.
One key benefit of garage cabinets is their ability to offer fully enclosed storage, protecting belongings from dust and pests. This is particularly important for safeguarding children and pets from harmful liquids and dangerous tools. PremierGarage also offers a multitude of finishes to customize the look and feel of the garage, ensuring it complements your home’s aesthetic.
In addition to cabinetry, slatwall storage systems are an excellent option for organizing a garage. These systems offer remarkable flexibility, allowing configurations to change as storage needs evolve. Slatwall organizers come with a range of accessories, including hooks and baskets that integrate seamlessly with the system.
By incorporating hooks into the slatwall system, you can easily store large tools like rakes, shovels, and brooms. This keeps items off the floor and makes them readily accessible for quick gardening or maintenance tasks. Baskets on the slatwall can hold various smaller items, catering to diverse hobbies and activities. This is particularly useful for growing families whose interests and equipment may change over time.
PremierGarage’s professional installation ensures that your garage organization solutions are not only functional but also safe. We guarantee that the heaviest belongings can be stored securely, giving you peace of mind. With a free in-home consultation, PremierGarage makes it easy to start designing your dream garage, tailored specifically to your dad’s needs and preferences.
Giving the gift of an organized garage this Father’s Day is a thoughtful and practical gesture that any dad would appreciate. Whether through PremierGarage’s custom cabinets or the versatile functionality of slatwall systems, transforming the garage into a well-organized, efficient space can enhance your father’s daily life. Celebrate this Father’s Day by helping him achieve the garage of his dreams, where every tool has its place, and every project becomes a pleasure. - Lucy Esch Master MassageLoudon County Historic Courthouse –Surviving the Fire
By Bo CaReyWorking across the street from the Loudon County seat, one is questioned daily
“When will the courthouse be ready?” Almost five years after the fire, it’s impossible to know when; after all, it’s government work.
The historic building was erected from 1871-1872 at a whopping cost of $26,000. 153 years later, renovations could exceed $10 million. Although visitors have not been able to use the courtroom and offices these past years, a few traditions have endured for public use.
First, Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day ceremonies have continued to be celebrated in the courtyard honoring those who served their country.
Secondly, the burned beams from the courtroom were salvaged by the county’s sesquicentennial committee. The Tellico Village Woodworkers Club contributed their talents by crafting the charred wood parts into time capsules. The plan is to display them in the
And finally, the old hitching posts on the southeast corner are fully intact as a reminder of bygone days when folks came to town on horseback or carriage and tied down their

TIn the Garden June
By lisa gRuginHIS HAS been another interesting spring. Wild temperature swings, torrential downpours, and nasty storms - topped off by cicadas hatching by the thousands. At least it hasn’t been boring! Some of you are still trying to plant because Mother Nature has been less than cooperative. Some of you are in the maintenance stage. Whichever stage you are in, there is plenty to do.
» If you are still trying to plant, it’s OK. There are plenty of plants to be found. They may require a little more care if planted now because it is hard for plants to grow and establish roots at the same time. You will need to water more frequently once the spring rains stop. Other than that, go ahead and plant. Trust me, most of my plants don’t go in until June!
» Do frequent walk-arounds. Plants were stressed by the temperature yo-yo and are therefore more vulnerable to disease and insects. If you catch problems when they are just beginning, you have a better chance of getting them under control.
» We are seeing a lot of fungal issues this year. Treat with Copper or Neem to start. Some plants that are especially susceptible to disease may need a systemic product such as Infuse™. Most plants will get better once we enter a drier stage.
» When you start treating for insects, please remember that some insects are your friends. Make sure they are doing damage before you spray. Overuse of insecticides not only kills the good bugs that we need, it also makes the harmful insects more resistant to insecticides.
» You can prune winter damage from shrubs now if you haven’t already done so. You can also cut back spent bulbs, the stalks of spring bloomers (iris, peonies, etc.), and annuals that are getting leggy. If you want to reduce the size of your spring blooming trees and shrubs, prune soon after they stop blooming so they have not set bud for next year.
» Keep an eye on your container plants. Most will need to be deadheaded, cut back, cleaned up (don’t let the spent blooms settle down into the container), and fertilized weekly. Container gardens tend to have problems with air circulation because they are densely planted, which can lead to fungus and insect problems. Be sure you are checking down inside the plant, not just the surface.
» If you planted vegetables, watch for insects and diseases, and treat before they get out of hand. Splashing water is a quick way to spread disease, so always use soaker hoses or water at the base of the plant. Mulch will help, especially if applied over landscape fabric. Call us if you have problems.
Now let’s talk about perennials because June is perennial month! We have a new partnership with American Beauties Native Plants®, and many of you have already taken advantage of the program. Native plants are great because they grow here naturally and require less care. In addition, they provide pollen and nectar for our native pollinators. There are some things that you need to keep in mind if you are not used to growing perennials. First of all, many perennials do not have a long bloom time; 4-6 weeks is average. This means that if you want consistent blooms, you will need to plant sequential bloomers. Start out your spring with creeping phlox, candy tuft, irises, peonies, brunnera, and baptisia. Add summer bloomers such as daisies, lilies, phlox, purple coneflower, yarrow, bee balm, rudbeckia, and salvia. If your yard is shady, hostas, coral bells, and ferns will give you blooms and wonderful foliage color combinations.
As we move into the fall, asters, mums, sedums, and some of the sages will continue the bloom show. Winter has hellebores to bloom in the gloom.
Country/ Southern Rock Music & Showing
We are excited to announce the upcoming concert in the Elite Tunes Series at Tellico Village 2024 lineup. Join us Saturday, June 29th for a fantastic lakeside concert featuring Waller Wilson, from Season 23 of The Voice, with a generous portion of the proceeds benefiting our charity partner, Hugs for Our Soldiers. Tickets are on sale now through Eventbrite. com for this event to be held outdoors at the Yacht Club of Tellico Village (100 Sequoyah Lane, Loudon) from 7-10pm.
Here is some other information about perennials:
» It takes them a little while to get going. The third year is when most really start performing.
» If you have worked good compost or soil conditioner into your soil, most do not need fertilizing.
» After 3-5 years, you can divide and share. Research timing or give us a call, because some prefer spring division and some prefer fall.
» Most can be moved if they (or you) are unhappy with their location. Butterfly weed has a taproot and cannot be moved.
» Perennial does not mean forever. Some, such as peonies, can live for decades. Others tend to start fading after a few years.
» There are a few perennials that are toxic. If you have pets that like to nibble on your plants, please do some research!
We will continue to get trucks in throughout the summer, so stop by and check out what is new. Let us help you have a beautiful garden.
Hugs for Our Soldiers is celebrating 23 years as a 100% volunteer nonprofit organization with a mission to show love & respect to our troops by sending care packages, Christmas gifts and making Welcome Home bags. To learn more, visit hugsforoursoldiers.org.
