MESSAGE OF PRESIDENT LYDIA V. SOLIS Today is a bittersweet occasion for all of us. While we are here to congratulate Lady Hope Robillos as the Kalayaan Incorporated President for 2021, along with her officers, we are also gathered albeit virtually not to sa fare ell to beloved Consul General Adelio Angelito S Cru but to bid him so long hope to see ou again someda We are full of sadness and ill miss him and his ife Ms Catherine Amon Cru parents to Christian Nathan, Aaron Mathew and Angeline Nicole. Consul General Cruz came to Los Angeles in 2016, and his four years of dedicated service as Consul General in Los Angeles earned him outstanding ratings from the Philippine Embassy in Washington and excellent feedback from his constituents in Southern California, Southern Nevada and Arizona. During his tour of duty he first attended our Kalayaan Grand Ball in 2017, during Relson Banas term He made his debut as Guest of Honor and Ke note Speaker in during the term of Susan Dilkes, and we fondly remember how well received his remarks were. In 2019, he welcomed Guest Speaker, Senator Risa Hontiveros, during the term of Annie Cuevas-Lim. Consul General Cruz would have been our Guest Speaker last June 6, 2020, but COVID-19 robbed me and Kalayaan Incorporated of our beloved Consul General s presence But ConGen Adel, as we fondly call him, has kind words for Kalayaan Incorporated. As an organi ation composed of leaders of other Fil-Am associations he stated close working relations with Kalayaan, Inc. has enhanced my tour of duty as your Consul General in the southwest region of the United States. The organization remains steadfast in its dedication to promote the interests of the Philippines and our kababayan community. I have said this before and I do not hesitate to say it again Kala aan Incorporated has consistentl been one of the most esteemed Filipino-American community partners of the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles I ill ne er tire of thanking all of Kala aan Inc s member-associations for all the hard work given to honor the sacrifices of our heroes who fought with incredible courage to secure our freedom as a nation, as well as to showcase Filipino culture and heritage Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz is a true patriot. He loves our country, and his parting words to us as he concludes his tour of duty in Los Angeles and continue to serve the public through their headquarters in Manila are: that we should continue to help and support each other in the community. He encourages us to connect with fellow Filipino-Americans and reach out to various community organizations in Southern California. He also encourages us to continue helping our kababayan back home in the Philippines, even as we help our local communities here, and represent the best of our Filipino traits and cultural heritage while getting to kno our people s histor and culture And finall he said When e are able to travel again, I encourage you to visit the Philippines and learn more about the more than 7,000 islands in our magnificent archipelago Kalayaan Incorporated salutes with endless pride our Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz, and we salute our homeland, its countless heroes and people with a message that belongs and is nurtured by Filipinos everywhere MABUHAY!

In these trying times, we are inspired to further our cause and show the world the true spirit of Filipino Bayanihan. We will bring hope and lift the spirits of our kababayan to keep them going when times are dark. It is significant that I begin on this day to acknowledge the task as President is above my talents. However, I claimed the judgment of the Lord is true and righteous and therefore, I trust Him and submit to His will. The success of any organization lies ultimately in its people. People that are committed to the core values. People like you, me, us. We are the backbone, we are the driving factor behind Kalayaan Incorporated. ACKNOWLEDGMENT I would like to thank everyone for their contribution to the success of this lone project for 2020, the Souvenir Book. My heartfelt big THANK YOU goes to Ethel Rubio for proposing this idea, spearheading the fundraising project, and putting this book together, and to Ex-Officio Gil Mislang for sharing his artistic talent and unselfishly volunteering to create most of the ads. To Lydia Soriano for coordinating with the members to ensure nothing is missed, a sincere thank you. I believed that nothing is too little or too ordinary, if it shows and shapes our common goals. Our commitment to Kalayaan Incorporated is, once again, showed and demonstrated in this program how we are as one. To our contributors and sponsors, our deep appreciation for your support. For omissions, errors and mistakes, we convey our apologies. Lastly, for all the officers, Board members and Ex-Officios, for their endless support. You are awesome and my inspiration. Thank you all for making our Farewell Celebration for Consul General Adelio Angelito Cruz successful, that includes the Induction of 2021 Kalayaan Incorporated Officers and Board of Directors. Heartfelt Thank You to the outstanding planning committee members: Lucy Babaran, Zeny Sabocor, Christine Consunji, Gil Mislang, Lydia Soriano, Aida Jugo, Ethel Rubio, and visual/audio artist Sidric Panganiban.
