Tamarac Small Business Micro Grant

The Tamarac Small Business Micro Grant is a reimbursement-based grant program designed help support small businesses in Tamarac by covering eligible business expenses made in the last 4 months.

Intro:

How do I know my business is eligible to apply?

1. Must be a for-profit business located in the City of Tamarac

2. Must not have any violations, unpaid fines, liens, or encumbrances with the City of Tamarac.

3. Must be registered and have an active status with the Florida Division of Corporations (Sunbiz)

4. Must have a valid and current Tamarac Business Tax Receipt (Tamarac Business License)

5. Must have a valid and current Broward County Business Tax Receipt

6. Must have filed federal business taxes (current or previous year)

7. Have a gross annual revenue of $1,000,000 or less

8. Employ 20 employees or less

9. Must hold at least 51% ownership or be authorized to apply on behalf of the business

10. If applying as a resident-owned business, at least 51% of the business must be owned by current Tamarac resident(s).

What if my business is a startup and I have not filed taxes yet?

Businesses that have been operating for less than one year, can submit one of the following in lieu of their federal business taxes.

1. A full business plan

5. Proof of Active Status on

6. Employee Documentation (W-3 form, IRS Form 941, Payroll summary report, Employee roster)

7. If no employees (Letter, or Employee Document Waiver)

8. Federal Business Tax Return (Current or Previous Year) or (Business Plan/Business Bootcamp if Startup)

9. Copy of Executed Commercial Lease (If applying for commercial rent)

10.Proof of Purchases made within the last 120 days from when you apply. These purchases must be in the business name (personal expenses are ineligible)

Proof of Expenses:

1. Receipts, Invoices, Cancelled Checks, Bank Statements, or Combination of

2. Must be in the business name

3. Must be for an eligible expense

4. Must fall within the last 120 days from when you apply

5. Must show as paid:

1. Item (s) purchased

2. Date of purchase

3. Amount paid

4. Vendor name and or contact information (Vendor must be a verified and legitimate business vendor)

6. Secondhand or used items are not eligible

7. If requesting a reimbursement for commercial rent:

1. A proof of payment

2. Signed commercial lease (tenant, property address, landlord or property management company, monthly rent amount)

3. Digital payments like Zelle are acceptable, however additional documentation may be required.

How do I apply for the Small Business Micro Grant? You can apply for the micro grant online at www.Tamaracedo.com.

3. Once you fill out your application and attach your documents you will press Submit

What if I’m missing documentation?

If documentation is missing, the applicant will be notified and given three (3) business days to submit up to three (3) missing items. Applications missing more than three (3) required documents will be deemed incomplete and denied.

How long does an application take to review?

Applications are reviewed in the order they are received. Processing times may vary depending on an applicant’s position in the queue. Once under review, applications are typically processed within 1–2 weeks, given that all documentation has been submitted.

Once approved how long until I receive my reimbursement?

Once an applicant is reviewed the reimbursement is processed and delivered to the applicant through a check within 30 business days.

Once awarded how long until I

can apply again to the

program?

Applicants who have previously been awarded must wait twelve (12) months before reapplying to the program.

Intro: Tenant Improvement/Interior Buildout Grant

What is the Tenant Improvement/Interior Buildout Grant?

The Tenant Improvement / Interior Buildout Grant (TIIBG) is a business attraction incentive established to encourage businesses to move to or to establish new commercial operations within the City of Tamarac, by offering a reimbursement for eligible buildout costs and improvements at a commercial space in Tamarac.

Highlights:

ï‚— Maximum award amount is $100,000.

ï‚— Grant is issued as a reimbursement.

ï‚— Grant is for businesses moving to Tamarac or establishing their new commercial operations in Tamarac.

 Grant covers eligible buildout costs, improvements, furniture, fixtures, and equipment, as well as up to 25% of one month’s commercial rent.

ï‚— Grant must be applied for at the time of and in conjunction with the Certificate of Use (CU) and business license process.

ï‚— Maximum of three (3) grants (projects) per commercial plaza per calendar year.

How do I know my business is eligible to apply?

1. Must be a new business wanting to establish its operations in Tamarac or wanting to relocate to Tamarac from outside of the City

2. Must be a for-profit business

3. Applicant must hold at least 51% ownership or be authorized to apply on behalf of the business

4. Must apply during the pre-licensing phase, prior to issuance of a Tamarac Business Tax Receipt (BTR)

5. Business must operate from a commercial space (home-based businesses are not eligible)

6. Applicant must own or have an executed lease for the commercial space

7. Property must be properly zoned and free of code violations

8. Proposed improvements must align with eligible uses under the program

9. Construction, buildout, or related expenses must not begin prior to grant approval

Carpentry (built-in shelving, counters, millwork)

HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning)

Life Safety Systems (fire alarms, sprinklers)

Bathrooms (installation/upgrades)

Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment

Up to 25% of one month’s commercial rent

ï‚— Complete your application, attach your documents, and press Submit

What is the review and approval process like?

1. Application Review

The Office of Economic Development will review your application for completeness.

2. Grant Review Committee (GRC)

Once deemed complete, your project will be reviewed by the Grant Review Committee (GRC), consisting of the City’s Planning and Zoning Division, Code Enforcement Office, and Building Department.

3. GRC Recommendation

If the project meets all requirements, the GRC will recommend it for City Commission consideration.

4. City Commission Approval

The Office of Economic Development will present the project to the City Commission, which will vote to approve or deny the grant request.

5. Grant Agreement Execution

A grant agreement may only be executed upon approval by the City Commission.

How do I apply for reimbursement?

1. Project Completion

Reimbursement may only be requested after the project is fully completed and all required licenses, permits, and approvals have been obtained to legally operate within the City of Tamarac.

2. Submit Documentation

Submit all receipts, invoices, and proof of payment to the Office of Economic Development.

3. Review & Verification

The Office of Economic Development will review and verify all submitted expenses against the approved project scope and budget.

4. Reimbursement Calculation

The reimbursement amount will be the lesser of the approved grant award or the total eligible expenses incurred.

5. Payment Issuance

Once approved, reimbursement will be processed and issued within approximately 30 business days.

Two (2) projects have been approved by the City of Tamarac City Commission

5. Estimated completion date set for January 2027.

6. Total remaining budget: $1,001,364
