As I look back on the past year, I remain grateful to represent our fantastic City! Whether it ’s been attending our wonderful community events, ser ving on County and State boards, or meeting residents and businesspeople for coffee and conversation, it has been a great year! It has been another year of achievements and awards for our City to celebrate! Here are just a few:
• Tamarac was ranked by Consumer Affairs as the fif th-best place to move to in Florida in 2025! Our population grow th of 11 8% between 201 8 and 2023 , combined with the highest home appreciation of the top five locations between 202 2 and 2023 , also earned our Cit y first place in the Economy categor y.
• Tamarac Fire Rescue continues to win awards individually and as a team , and this year was awarded their second consecutive 5 -year accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, which administers one of the most comprehensive fire ser vice evaluations ever developed!
• The City of Tamarac won its third award in three years from the Florida League of Mayors! This year it was for the Municipal Innovation Awards in the “Service Delivery Improvement ” categor y for the City’s project Transforming Municipal Ser vice Deliver y project. Since the inception of the FLM Awards Program, the City of Tamarac is the only City to be an award recipient three years in a row! We received this honor in 2023 for the Tamarac Pet Pantr y, in 2024 for the Shine Tamarac Campaign, and now in 2025 for Tamarac’s Omni- Channel Call Center Solution

As we welcome the fall season , I am grateful for the oppor tunit y to reflec t on the wonder ful moments we’ve shared in our communit y over the past few months . One of the highlights of the summer was our Senior Health & Wellness Expo, which brought together residents , organizations , and ser vice providers for an af ternoon of resources , health screenings , and connec tion . Seeing so many of our seniors engaging, learning, and enjoying themselves was truly rewarding, and I thank ever yone who par ticipated in making the event a success.
This summer, I was also for tunate to host a student intern from Millennium 6 -12 Collegiate Academy. Mentorship is a power ful tool, and providing students with hands- on civic experience is something I deeply value. It was inspiring to witness the dedication and fresh perspec tive our intern brought to Cit y Hall, and I am hopeful about the future leaders coming from our schools .
In addition , I am proud to share that the Distric t 4 Home Improvement Program was a success and provided financial assistance to several residents These investments help families strengthen their homes and , in turn , strengthen our neighborhoods . Looking ahead , I am excited to connec t with you at upcoming communit y events . Please stay engaged by following me on Instagram @ drkiciadanielvicemayor or on Facebook @Commissio ner Kicia Daniel, Cit y of Tamarac Distric t 4 . Stay connec ted for updates , oppor tunities , and ways to get involved . Yours in Ser vice, Dr. Kicia Daniel Vice Mayor, Distric t 4

The holidays are upon us, and the weather is finally beginning to cool. We have many blessings for which we must give thanks and many opportunities to share our good fortune. As we enter the holiday season, let us take this time to let those around us know how much we value their friendship. This time of year also reminds me of when I was first elected to the Tamarac City Commission
I was first elected to ser ve you as Commissioner nine years ago this November. Residents in District 1 wanted change, so they went out in great numbers to make it happen. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to ser ve the City of Tamarac for three consecutive terms. I have remained attentive to the needs of our residents, and I am ver y thankful for the ideas they of ten bring to my attention, or projects they want me to advocate for

We saw the completion of many projects in east Tamarac. We saw the sale of the old Shaker Village Club House which will be transformed into a world-class community center We also saw construction for the barrier wall along Commercial Blvd , west of Rock Island Road begin I am excited for the future of our city
Oc tober is Breast C ancer Awareness Month . My office is proud to present two impor tant events that will bring our communit y together to suppor t a great cause. We invite you to join us for the Tamarac For the Cure Run/ Walk on October 11th and the Pink Heroes Gala on October 18th

Recent Projects
Streets across the city are brighter and more vibrant thanks to infrastructure enhancements

A key initiative, the NW 94th Avenue Crosswalk & Roadway Drainage Improvements Project, is improving pedestrian safety and accessibility near Challenger Elementar y and Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy. Scheduled for completion in Fall 2025, this project will enhance mobility and safety for students and residents alike

District 2 is home to the first of three locations of the project along Pine Island Road and Commercial Boulevard
These effor ts are all par t of Tamarac ’s mission to create a safer, more welcoming, and more vibrant communit y. As these improvements continue, we invite ever yone to get involved!

CH AN G E YO U R CLOCK , C HA N G E YO U R BAT TE R I E S
As the year comes to a close, we’d like to remind ever yone that daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 2 . When you set your clocks back , remember to replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be tested monthly and replaced ever y 1 0 years . Homes should have smoke alarms in each bedroom and in the immediate vicinit y outside each room
Homes with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages need carbon monoxide alarms . The holiday season is a time for gathering, celebrating and sharing meals, but it also brings an increased risk of cooking-related fires As kitchens heat up with festive activity, it ’s important to stay alert and practice safe cooking practices. Tamarac Fire Rescue urges residents to take precautions to prevent fires and protect their homes and loved ones during the busiest cooking season of the year.
Cooking Fire Statistic s*
• Tamarac Fire Rescue responded to more than 35 cooking-related calls in 2024
• Clothing is the item first ignited in less than 1% of home cooking fires, but clothing ignitions caused 8% of home cooking fire deaths.
• Ranges or cook tops account for 53% of home cooking fire incidents .
• Unattended cooking is a fac tor in 29% of repor ted home cooking fires and half of the associated deaths .
* Based on 2017-2021 annual averages .
What you should know about home cooking safety
• Stay aler t. Don’t cook if you’re sleepy or have consumed alcohol.
• Always remain in the kitchen when cooking. Use a timer to reduce the chances of burning your food
• Keep any thing that can catch fire — oven mitts , wooden utensils , food packaging, towels and cur tains away from your stovetop
• Never throw water on an oil fire
If you have a cooking fire
• Get out! Close the door behind you to help contain the fire and call 9 -1 -1 .
• Keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires Smother the fire by sliding the lid over the pan and turning the stove off. Leave the pan covered until it is completely cooled
• For oven fires , turn off the heat and keep the door closed

The latest pizzeria just touched down in Tamarac , and you’ll want a “pizza” this! The NY Pizza Place is widely known for its authentic taste of New York-st yle pizza with secret family recipes dating back generations . This beloved family- owned chain has three locations in Broward Count y, making Tamarac Town Square, 8275 NW 8 8th Ave., its newest home.
With a menu that offers diverse bites , from buffalo chicken pizza topped with chicken , mozzarella cheese and drizzled with buffalo sauce to popular NY street foods like the meatball parm panuozzo, which is a 14-inch pizza dough baked golden and stuffed with meatball, marinara and mozzarellait ’s sure to satisf y your cravings .
“In South Florida, we realized something was missing real New York pizza. As a native New Yorker, I knew the secret was in the dough, so we went straight to the source: Brooklyn,” said Elyshia Allen, Owner. “Today, ever y one of our pizzas, garlic knots and panuozzos are made with dough we proudly bring in from Brooklyn. We of course only use Grande cheese and Italian plum tomatoes. And then there’s our oven, The Dragon —an Italian brick beauty that cooks each pizza in just six minutes at
700 degrees, recreating that old-school New York flavor ever yone loves. It ’s more than pizza to us it ’s a little slice of New York we get to share.”
Not only does their pizza incorporate the classic flavors of New York, but as you enter the Tamarac location, this culinar y hotspot, stretching more than 1, 200 square feet, proudly displays graffiti artwork by native New York artists. The restaurant walls are scaled with brick and subway tile, bringing the culture of New York to the South Florida scene.
Whether you’re looking to dine in, order takeout, or grab a pie for a special occasion, the warm and inviting atmosphere is sure to make every visit a memorable one. Don’t miss out on the chance to experience a taste of New York at The NY Pizza Place You can learn more about The NY Pizza Place’s hours of operation at www NYPizzaPlace com or follow their social media for their latest updates

Fire Chief Mike Annese, a 27-year veteran of Tamarac Fire Rescue, retired in September
Chief Annese began his career with Tamarac Fire Rescue in 1998 as a firefighter/paramedic and rose through the ranks to serve as Rescue Supervisor, Fire Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief. The Tamarac City Commission unanimously appointed him to Fire Chief in February 2022.
During his leadership, the department joined Broward County’s Closest Unit Response Program, administered more than 2,000 COVID-19 vaccines to Tamarac residents, and maintained both its international accreditation and Class 1 rating with the Insurance Services Office.
“It ’s been an honor to serve the City of Tamarac as Fire Chief,” Annese said. “I want to thank the men and women of Tamarac Fire Rescue who work tirelessly every day to keep our community safe.”
Annese’s retirement marks the end of a career dedicated to public service and

CELEB R ATI N G STR EN GTH , WELLN E SS AND COMM U N IT Y
This October, Tamarac honors one of its brightest examples of strength and vitality
Violet Polstein, who turns 80 this month. A Tamarac resident for a decade and a familiar face at both the Community Center and Tamarac Parks and Recreation programs for more than seven years, Violet lives each day with energy, purpose and joy.
Violet first discovered Tamarac through regular visits to her son in Florida .
“ Ever y year I visited my son in Florida . He would say, ‘ Mom , why don’t you move here? It ’s like living your childhood in Belize with the sun , the water and all the tropical fruits .’ My husband and I decided to take his advice ”
For Violet, Tamarac ’s centers are more than places to exercise they ’re a second home.
“ My health and wellness , and the many lovely people I have met, keep me coming back . I ’m devoted to my workouts and the staff who push me to be happy and healthy.”
Her dedication doesn’t just fuel her own journey it lif ts others as well
“ The many compliments I get wherever I go I hear, ‘ Violet, I want to look like you! ’ make me feel good about myself and remind me that I ’m inspiring others ”
As Violet celebrates her milestone bir thday, her stor y is a power ful reminder that Tamarac is more than a Cit y—it is a communit y where health , wellness , and connec tion thrive at ever y age.
