B ridging G enerations Through Technology

s a communit y leader, one of the greatest oppor tunities I have is fostering relationships across generations . This summer, we launched “ The Bridge,” an initiative designed to bring seniors and teenagers together, creating meaningful interactions and mutual learning experiences .

During this event, high school students visited assisted living facilities to assist seniors with their technological needs . These young volunteers dedicated their time to teaching residents how to use various applications on their phones , tablets , and computers and helping troubleshoot any technical issues the residents encountered

In a generous gesture, business par tners provided tablets at no cost to

the seniors , ensuring ever yone had access to the latest technology. “ The Bridge” was not just about technology but about understanding and building connections between generations .

This event was a resounding success , thanks to the collaborative effor ts of ever yone involved. It was hear twarming to see seniors and teenagers talking, laughing and learning from each other

I ’m grateful to ever yone who made this possible and eagerly look for ward to the next “ The Bridge” event. Let ’s continue to build and strengthen our communit y, one connection at a time.

s Independence Day nears , communities across the United States eagerly anticipate fireworks illuminating the night sk y. Yet, amid the excitement, a sobering realit y lurks: the dangers of mishandled fireworks . With more than 19, 50 0 repor ted fires ignited by fireworks annually and burns accounted for 4 4% of emergency roomtreated injuries around July Four th , it ’s critical to always put safet y first.

It ’s not just adults who fall victim to these hazards; children aged 1 0 -14 have the highest rate of fireworks injuries . As we prepare to celebrate our nation’s freedom , raising awareness of fireworks safet y is imperative Fireworks should be used by trained personnel, but if you choose to use legal consumer fireworks , follow these safet y tips from Tamarac Fire Rescue to ensure your Four th of July festivities sparkle with joy, not accidents .

• Never allow young children to handle fireworks Older children should be closely super vised

• Use glow sticks as a safe fireworks alternative

• Soak sparklers in a bucket of water for a few hours before discarding. Hot items can ignite dumpster fires

• Always have a garden hose or fire extinguisher handy.

• Only light one device at a time; maintain a safe distance af ter lighting.

• Instead of at-home fireworks , use red, white and blue silly string. It ’s fun for all ages

• Never re -light or handle malfunctioning fireworks .

• Never use illegal fireworks

• Never hold lit fireworks in your hands

• Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol

• It ’s best to leave fireworks displays to the professionals . Family-friendly event like Tamarac ’s All-American Celebration is a fun and safe home fireworks alternative
