Choice of coffee size

The coffee itself should always be the main focus when it comes to coffee preparation. Then comes the barista‘s experience, and finally, the devices that help you achieve the perfect result. Below, you will find a few tips on how to achieve the best possible espresso, which takes coffee beverages to the next level. The type of coffee and the intensity of roasting, as well as its freshness, play a crucial role. The difference between coffee purchased in a regular store and fresh coffee from a roastery can be quite significant. We do not recommend extracting overly long from heavily roasted coffee with dark and oily beans; it is ideally suited for strong espresso or a ristretto. On the other hand, if you prepare very lightly roasted coffee, let it extract for a little longer - even beyond the usual recommended 35 seconds. Depending on the type of coffee, not only the extraction time, but also the amount of coffee in the portafilter can vary. Since espresso is made up of 98% water, the choice of water (tap, bottled, or filtered) is another crucial factor that significantly affects the quality of espresso. When preparing espresso, it is necessary to eliminate any heat transitions. Before extraction, make sure to heat up all the components: Insert the lever with the portafilter into the coffee machine and let hot water flow through them into the cup. This will heat up both the coffee machine, the lever including the portafilter, and the cup as well. Following those steps you can surely enjoy a delicious espresso with a rich flavor and irresistible aroma. For achieving a balanced espresso taste, proper settings and procedures are essential. Although it may take some time to adjust all aspects, the result is definitely worth it. You can see it for yourself with the Nero Crema coffee machine.

TIP: Prepare espresso in double-walled ETA glass cups, which will maintain the correct temperature for much longer.

Before the first use

Remove the protective film from the display, right after unpacking the coffee machine from the box. Find a good spot for your device and plug the power cable in.

Coffee grind size adjustment The adjustment of the coffee grind size is done while the coffee machine is running - directly during the grinding of whole beans. When changing to a different brand of coffee, it is necessary to check the grind size (each type of coffee requires different grind settings).

Adjustable coffee volume option You can easily adjust the settings to make the resulting espresso, cappuccino, and latte macchiato exactly how you like them. You can customize the pre-set coffee volume for one or even two cups, as well as the amount of frothed milk for each drink. You can find all the information and a step-by-step guide in the attached manual.

What milk to use for frothing? The chilled whole milk is the best option when frothing milk. As an alternative, you can use soy, almond, or oat milk. Nevertheless, for the desired effect, we recommend using beverages labeled as „BARISTA.“

What do the individual icons on the coffee machine display signify? By pressing it for the first time, you increase the strength of the coffee (+ 1–2 g of coffee per serving), and that will light up the symbol utton „espresso“ – preparation of a beverage with a volume of 40 ml B (default setting - can be adjusted) Button„lungo“ – preparation of a beverage with a volume of 60 ml (default setting - can be adjusted) utton „cappuccino“ – preparation of a beverage with a volume of 110 ml B (default setting - can be adjusted) utton „latte“ – preparation of a beverage with a volume of 140 ml B (default setting - can be adjusted) Function for hot water – pressing it will release the hot water through the steam nozzle Preparation of milk foam – the default setting is for 140 ml of milk foam (can be adjusted) Function for cleaning the interior of the coffee machine – during the cleaning, 140 ml of water will flow through the coffee machine, and the whole process takes about 2 minutes Icon signaling lack of coffee beans – fill the bean hopper with coffee beans Icon signaling lack of water – refill the water tank Icon for the brewing unit – perform maintenance on the brewing unit t least one of the following parts is removed from the coffee machine: brewing unit, A residual water tray, or coffee grounds container. Check and place properly all of those parts. I con signaling to empty coffee grounds – vempty the coffee grounds container. Do it only when the coffee machine is turned on! Icon for stronger coffee – use the button to turn on/off higher coffee strength

67 °C

Before preparing an espresso, preheat the cup by filling it with hot water. This will clean the coffee machine and reduce unwanted heat loss. The prepared espresso will then have an optimal temperature of 67 °C .

Emptying the coffee grounds container

Make sure to always empty the container with the coffee grounds when the machine is in standby mode, which is when the coffee machine is turned on. The icon indicating a full container is based on the number of prepared coffees, so emptying the container when the machine is turned off would result in reseting the counter.

Why is there no water coming out of the coffee machine? Due to transportation, longer periods of inactivity, or other circumstances, the internal system of the coffee machine may become clogged. If there is no water coming out of the coffee outlet, stop the preparation. Then, press the icon for water and let about 50 ml of the liquid flow out. After that, the coffee machine should work smoothly again, as you are used to.

Maintenance of the coffee grinder You can easily remove and disassemble the grinder for the proper cleaning. We recommend cleaning the grinder at least once a month, or if you use it daily, clean it even more frequently. Clean the grinder and its parts using a dry method. Tap, blow, or brush off any coffee residue that may have stuck to the grinder. The brush for cleaning the grinder is included in the packaging. You can rinse the plastic parts with warm water and a bit of dish soap. Make sure to let everything dry thoroughly before using it again. TIP: We recommend cleaning the grinder anytime you decide to change the coffee brand or type of coffee. You can find detailed instructions on how to remove and reassemble the grinder in the manual.

Maintenance of the coffee machine

Maintenance of the coffee machine after the preparation of milk-based beverages After preparing a milk-based beverage, it is necessary to clean the coffee machine. You can store the milk container in the fridge. To clean the interior parts of the lid and milk nozzle, use the automatic program and follow these steps: • Turn on the coffee machine and wait for it to heat up • Submerge the milk tube in a container filled with water • Place a suitable container under the milk nozzle • Finally, briefly press the milk froth button

Weekly maintenance Clean the steaming unit once or twice a week (depending on how often the machine is used).

Monthly maintenance Descaling should be done at least once a month. It is not complicated - detailed instructions for the procedure are in the manual. Use the ETA Decalco ETA518000201 product to descale the coffee machine.
