This is one place where there are no laws or even rules to guide you. Sure you can leave it where it is, or you can do the right thing, even if no-one is looking. Nobody gets credit for moving their cart, but it shows me that you know how to be a responsible adult, even when there is no pat on the Thereback.isa
TV show I am sure many of you have seen or at least heard of called “What would you do?” In this show people are tested in fabricated situations to see their reaction when they think no-one is watching. Many of these situations involve stepping up when people are being harassed or bullied and yes, we should all put a stop to that kind of behavior. My issue with this is that nowadays it can be dangerous to react in the way you would want to. I have told my daughters, in particular, not to intervene if their safety could be at risk. But it should not be that way. People should always do the right thing, even if they don’t get kudos or acknowledgement. People should also not harass or bully others too, let’s be honest here.
I don’t mean inside the store, although I will judge you harshly if you allow your child to ram it into my ankles. Nope, I mean outside the store, in the parking lot. Once you get all your chocolate chip muffins, cheese balls and lactose free milk into the car and you have an empty cart, what do you do? Do you leave it where it lands? Do you push it onto a curb so it doesn’t roll away? Do you put it carefully between the parked cars next to you? Or do you take it to the cart stand, ready to be rolled back to the store?
This brings me back to the cart situation. Do the right thing, people. Even if no-one is watching you. Catherine UretskyEditor, Viva 623-398-5541catherine@estrellapublishing.commagazine

In my opinion the measure of a man (or woman) can be taken by observing what they do with a shopping cart.

Hair is an important part of your personal style every day, it can help you look and feel your best. If you’re experiencing thinning hair or hair loss, it’s important to know you’re not alone. “If you’ve noticed your hair doesn’t seem as thick as it used to be or more is falling out than normal, don’t be alarmed. Learning about the causes of hair loss and how you can keep your hair healthy can make a positive impact, no matter your age,” said Dr. Elizabeth Houshmand, board certified dermatologist and Viviscal It’sspokesperson.normaltoshed
Dr. Houshmand shares some ways to help maintain hair health and encourage thicker, fuller, healthier hair: Nourish from the inside: Healthy hair starts from within, so it’s important to look at your diet and eat nourishing foods. Protein is particularly important because it’s a building block for hair.
between 50 and 100 hairs a day, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association. You may temporarily shed more than this for a few months due to stressors such as giving birth, losing a significant amount of weight, or recovering from an illness or operation. Hair loss is different because it occurs when the hair stops growing - this can be caused by things such as medical treatments like chemotherapy, or hereditary hair loss, where you have inherited genes that cause hair loss.
Mind wet hair: Remember, wet hair is weaker and therefore more vulnerable. Switch up your bathing routine by detangling before your shower rather than after to protect strands.
Let a Real Estate Paralegal and Retired Police Chief help you with the biggest investment of your life.
Deep condition: Leave conditioner on your hair for longer periods of time so it really nourishes hair. Strive for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. With these few simple steps, you can help your hair be its healthiest yet.

Wash every other day: A dirty scalp can be itchy and irritating, leaving hair dry and brittle. Washing every other day is the ideal frequency for most people to promote hair health.

Cut heat: When possible, cut down on using heat styling tools or turn the heat down to the lowest effective setting. Explore alternatives that don’t use heat, such as rollers.
Go loose: That slick ponytail or braid may look chic, but it can damage your hair if worn on a regular basis. These styles pull at the roots and can cause breakage mid-strand.

Some house cleaners may try to cut their cleaning time short by rotating items, which means they likely won’t remember to clean them until they’re visibly gross. Be sure to make a list of what you would like cleaned and review that list together.

This kind of cross-contamination is easy to prevent if a house cleaner has a plan in place. If you ask a house cleaner this question and they stumble or cannot give a detailed answer, this is a red flag.

Your home should be a sanctuary to take refuge from the world, relax and recharge. However, keeping a home clean and tidy can be difficult when life gets busy. With Professional House Cleaners Day approaching on Sept. 17, it may be the perfect time to consider hiring a professional house cleaner to do the heavy lifting and deep cleaning for you. If you’ve never hired a professional cleaner, it can seem daunting to find the right one. Melissa Homer, chief cleaning officer at MaidPro knows what makes a great house cleaner. Light it up: Replace burnt-out bulbs with bright, non-glare lightbulbs.

While the risk of falling increases with age, one can take measures to help prevent falls.
Store for success: Keep frequently used items between your waist and shoulder height.
The calendar says fall starts in September, but Arizona’s cooler season will wait awhile. One thing that won’t wait are the measures to reduce your risk of injury due to falling hazards. Falls are a leading cause of injury for people age 65 and older, according to the National Council on Aging (NCOA), but they are not an inevitable part of aging. During national Fall Prevention Awareness Week, Sept. 18-24, doctors from Abrazo Health want the public to know there are things you can do around the house to help prevent falls. “If fall injuries aren’t something that you’ve thought about, there is probably someone in your life who’s worried about it,” said Dr. Jason Black, medical director of Emergency Services at Abrazo West Campus. Most falls are caused by a combination of risk factors. The more risk factors a person has, the greater their chances of falling. As we age, our risk of falling and being injured increase. After age 65, your risk of falling is about one in four. These falls may result in

Falls among adults age 65 and older are very costly. “Basic oral care can make hospital stays safer and reduce germs in the mouth that cause pneumonia,” said Dian Baker, Ph.D., NP, RN.
10 Estrella Publishing - Viva magazine September 2022
If you or a loved one have been hospitalized, maintaining proper oral care is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of hospital-acquired pneumonia. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
* During your hospital stay, remember to brush as you would at home under ideal conditions, 2-4 times per day.
hospitalized patients can develop pneumonia. Requesting and using quality oral care products while staying in a hospital will help address the risk factors of pneumonia for you or your family members. This isn’t an unknown phenomenon to health care workers. Nurses reported oral care as the third most missed element of nursing care.
* Ask a nurse for a soft-bristled toothbrush, toothpaste, and antiseptic mouthwash.
To learn more about proper oral care, hospitalacquired infections and how you can advocate for yourself and your loved ones, visit Stryker. com.
When life requires a hospital stay, it can be easy to let your oral hygiene routine slip. However, doing so may leave you vulnerable to developing the number one hospital-acquired infection (HAI): pneumonia. Hospital-acquired pneumonia is a serious condition that may extend a hospital length of stay by 15 days, require more antibiotics to manage and ultimately increase hospitalization costs. While pneumonia is often associated with the elderly, intensive care units and ventilated patients, every hospital patient is at risk for contracting pneumonia. One of the easiest ways to significantly address the risk factors of pneumonia during a hospital stay is by continuing with proper oral care using high-quality products. While this seems like a simple solution, the truth is that most patients don’t receive the tools they need, like a toothbrush and toothpaste. In cases when patients are provided oral care supplies, they are often given cheap toothbrushes, basic toothpaste and non-antiseptic oral rinse. Given these factors, it’s easy to see why many
Brush Up
* Because toothbrushes can easily collect bacteria and germs, don’t use a toothbrush that has been sitting out in the hospital room. Ask for a fresh toothbrush.

An attorney is needed for the patient and a different attorney for the petitioner. After a court investigation, a hearing is held in open court—in about 45 days after a petition is filed. Time, money and privacy is saved by appointing an agent through healthcare powers of attorney.
Estrella Publishing - Viva magazine September 2022 13
The medical healthcare power of attorney identifies an agent, such as a trusted family member or friend, who can give consent to medical treatment if you cannot. If insurance requires transfer to a skilled nursing facility before going home from the hospital, your agent can arrange that for you. Different from other states, the Arizona allows you to authorize your health care agent to follow your instructions for burial or cremation. Otherwise, when there is no surviving spouse, all of the children or other family members may have to be consulted.

3)ones?Make motivation part of your routine: Find ways to remind yourself of your why. Put notes on a mirror or a kitchen cabinet. Change your phone background to a photo or quote that motivates you.
“Building healthy habits takes time and dedication, but doesn’t have to be overwhelming,” says Alyssa Burnison, MS, RD, LN, and the director of program and nutrition, lead registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist at Profile Plan. “Incorporating just one of the following tips can make a world of difference.”
7) Track your progress: To make a new habit stick, you have to build accountability. Make a plan, then track your progress. You can create your own or find one to download online. Profile’s can be found at profileplan.com/profile-planner.
How many of us planned to go to bed early only to stay up streaming our favorite shows? What about scheduling time to work out, then getting caught up in work and running out of energy? Even when you’re highly motivated, it’s easy to get sidetracked. The key is finding ways to reset, bring yourself back into balance and set yourself up for lasting success.

eliminate bad habits before you can build new
1) Give yourself a break: Life is hard and we all slip up from time to time. Forgive yourself, approach your journey with compassion and don’t waste time on shame, frustration or guilt.
4) Start small: Break larger goals into smaller, specific steps that will work for you. You don’t need to hit the gym for an hour every day to see results. Small changes add up quickly.
5) Link a new habit to an existing one: The easiest way to make a new habit stick is to connect it with an ingrained one. Instead of just walking to get your mail, extend your trip and walk a few blocks as well.
“Embrace just a few of these ideas and you’ll be headed in a healthier direction,” says Burnison.
Habit Reset
2) Start the planning process: Take stock of what condition your habits are in. Have you slipped up on good habits and need to rebuild them, or do you need to start from scratch? Do you have to
6) Cut comparison: Comparison is your biggest enemy. No two people have the same journey, and you are sabotaging yourself by comparing your progress to others’.
