From Me To You... I had a most wonderful experience recently. It was the occasion of my baby’s 17th birthday, and trying to find a way to celebrate that he would enjoy (and his friends would be able to participate in) during social distancing was quite a challenge. Obviously it had to be an online occasion and that actually had the advantage of opening it up to friends from near and far. I began my search. My son enjoys cooking so I thought that an online cooking class would be a fun thing to do so online I went.
I have used AirBNB on the past for my travel arrangements and had much success with that company so I looked up their online experiences for a cooking class. After many days falling down that rabbit hole I eventually chose Pietro’s Pasta Making Class. Pietro is an Italian living in Milan who has been running this online class for many months now, quite successfully if you
read his reviews. I found the most complicated part of the booking experience was figuring out a time that worked for both us and Pietro. As he is in Milan he is 8 hours ahead of us, and incidently he has very young twins, which complicated our schedule too. Eventually a date and time were set and invitations were sent out. The day arrived and I was really anxious. What if it all went horribly wrong? I really wanted my son to have a great time, he has had a heck of a year and I felt that I owed him a fun birthday. I should not have worried. Pietro was a consummate professional who managed to teach the teenagers how to make pasta from scratch, introduce them to Italy and it’s beauty, and keep them all entertained at the same time. Ross not only learned how to make a wonderful meal, he was able to share the experience with friends in Ohio, Flagstaff, Phoenix and Goodyear. I will add that the pasta was delicious and so easy to make! If you look further in the magazine you will find the recipe so you can make some yourself. I can also tell you that I have been bitten by the online class bug. We have a wine tasting event scheduled for later in February, with adult friends, and I am going to set up a monthly date night. I am thinking of dance classes, how much fun would it be to learn Salsa without the embarrassment of being in a classroom making a fool of yourself? There are so many interesting classes to choose from, GINspiration History and Cocktails, Follow a Plague Doctor Through Prague, Family Magic Show and Magic Lesson, Meet and Draw a Llama, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many ways to learn and have fun that were not available to us before we were hit with this virus. Why not take advantage of a few and have some fun online with your Valentine this year? Money Matters
With the enactment of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021, millions of eligible individuals will receive a second Economic Impact Payment. The Bureau of the Fiscal Service (Fiscal Service) is distributing these payments on behalf of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). To speed delivery of payments, some individuals will receive their payment in the form of an EIP Card, which is a safe, convenient and secure prepaid debit card. EIP Cards were mailed beginning the week of Jan. 4, 2021. Individuals receiving a second round of stimulus payments through an EIP Card will receive a new card. Funds will not be loaded onto previously issued EIP Cards. Some people who received a paper check last time will receive a debit card this time, and some people who received a debit card last time will receive a paper check.
EIP Cards offer an easy-to-use way for Americans to receive and access government and emergency relief benefits. These prepaid cards look and work like traditional debit cards. The first step when you receive your EIP Card is to activate it by calling at 1-800-240-8100 or online at EIPCard.com. During activation, you will be asked to input your card number, the last 6 digits of your Social Security number and the 3-digit security code from the back of your EIP Card. You could be asked to further validate your identity by providing, at minimum, your name and address, or answering identity verification questions. You will also be asked to create a 4-digit PIN required for ATM transactions, automated telephone assistance and to obtain your EIP Card balance. For your account security, do not use personal information as your PIN. For more information on Economic Impact Payments, visit EIPcard.com.
These prepaid Visa debit cards are sent in a white envelope that prominently displays the U.S. Department of the Treasury seal and enable individuals to directly access their EIP. EIP Cards can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.

Timeshares?
Once upon a time, if you said you owned a timeshare, you might get a side eye from a well-meaning friend who was concerned you caved to a hard sell for a vacation option. But times have changed, and a quiet revolution in the industry now shows that timeshares can be a savvy vacation strategy. According to Consumer Reports, timeshare is an increasingly attractive travel option that has evolved since its start in the 1970s. But do people buy timeshares anymore? For Kassi and Keith Parker, who bought a timeshare in their late 20s, the decision was a no-brainer.
“When we first sat down with the sales rep, we felt a bit guilty for wasting his time,” explained Kassi, who, along with her husband, invested in vacation ownership with Hilton Grand Vacations. “But not long into our conversation, it dawned on us that we could spend less on travel and continue to explore the world with all of HGV’s properties and experiences. And still being south of 30, we saw so many amazing trips in our future at such a better price.” Kassi isn’t alone. According to the State of Shared Vacation Ownership Industry study from ARDA, a timeshare company’s credibility is just one consideration consumers have when deciding to buy a timeshare.
According to the ARDA study, timeshare owners travel better and more often: * Half of owners visit resort areas more frequently since purchasing a timeshare. * On average, timeshare owners took more than three vacations a year. * 70% of owners agree that owning a timeshare makes them vacation more regularly. * 72% of owners agreed that owning a timeshare improves their quality of travel. * 69% of owners agreed that owning a timeshare gives them better value for their vacation dollars.
51 Years
Other reasons listed include: * Location of properties * Flexibility of programs * The ability to save money on future vacations * Ownership making vacations a certainty * Quality of accommodations

On Our Cover Painted Stones of Kindness
I’m a new kid on the block. Just moved here three months ago from my small farm in Iowa. Married a resident of PebbleCreek. A sweetheart I serendipitously remet at our 60th high school reunion summer before last. Still seems like a fairytale. PebbleCreek has been an adjustment. From my kitchen window in Iowa I can see only green pastures, a wide river, dense deciduous forests, and cows. But now, Arizona is my new home for the winter until I become a summer-bird and return north come spring. I look forward to cutting grass, tasting rejuvenating weekly rainstorms, and collecting fresh brown eggs from the young hens we raised last summer from baby chicks. I like PebbleCreek, although I would be hopelessly lost without Google navigation. The streets are so unexpectedly clean, the plethora of cactus and palm trees are delightful but still a strange sight, the clubhouse and facilities are amazing, and the immaculate golf courses don’t seem real. And yet… although the corona pandemic-thing is keeping people indoors… I hardly ever see anyone. Where are the people, don’t they do yardwork and spend time out-ofdoors? Of course, I see some folks at the doggy-park and in golf carts rambling down fairways when we venture into town to replenish our food stocks. But I rarely see neighbors. I know we have some, for every Tuesday early morning when we take our two dogs out for a walk to do their jobs, up and down the street there are all these pairs of large plastic trash barrels. And sometimes during late-afternoon dog walks, I catch the aroma of grilling steaks coming from no nowhere. I’m tempted to shout-out “Make mine medium rare!” But I can’t see anybody. Must be some folks in all those beautiful brown homes. 8

Are people not friendly here in PebbleCreek? In Arizona? I was wondering. Christmas brought surprising comfort. Colored lights, wreaths, and even blown-up characterizations of Santa appeared in people’s graveled front yards. No music but wonderful Holiday displays. I even saw one such inflated Santa being pushed around by the wind while he was attempting to enter an inflated outhouse. It made me believe in Santa even more. Then it all changed one afternoon when my bride said, “Did you see that painted stone on top of our mailbox?” “A what? No, I didn’t.” So, I went out to see for myself. Sure enough there it was, a small, river-rounded stone with a beautifully hand-painted Christmas wreath! I can’t paint but appreciate talent when I see it. Then she said the unexpected. “Our neighbor has one too.” No way. So, I leashed up Kidd and GunnerMeatball and strolled up and down our block trying my best to appear to be walking the dogs, when in fact I was checking out everyone’s mailbox. Sure enough. Some 14 homes had an amazing, artfully-hand painted stone: candy canes, Christmas trees, wreaths with colored ribbons, poinsettia flowers, and more and more. I was impressed. No, actually I was moved that someone anonymously and silently gave all the neighborhood a Christmas-painted stone of kindness. But you can’t thank’em. You don’t know who they are. So, we wrote up, printed out, and Gorilla Taped a public sign to our concrete mailbox –
February 2021
“THANK YOU MYSTERY STONE PAINTER… ARTFUL & THOUGHTFUL”. Joining in the appreciation, our cheerful and enthusiastic Pickleball players from next-door attached to the sign a handwritten Post-It Note saying “We agree with this.” End of story? Nope. A couple weeks later we noticed that some painted stones had been taken indoors by their recipients. In remembrance of their significance, I took photos of the remaining art work. As I approached one home the gentleman of the household was returning from walking his dog. We exchanged greetings and I mentioned the stones and how much they meant, adding I didn’t know who the mysterious painter was. Then much to my surprise he responded, “Oh… that’s my wife.” “Wow… please thank her for us and tell her she’s a great artist.” “Oh, she dabbles with paints, does as many as two to three stones in a single day. But her sister is the real artist in the family.” “Just the same we are much impressed and appreciative.” End of story? Nope. The next day in expression of pandemic troublesome times there was a second painted stone on our mailbox with the single optimistic word… “HOPE”. PebbleCreek, a quiet neighborhood of beautiful brown homes… is also occupied with kind and talented people. Thank you mystery stone painter… artful and thoughtful. Dr. William L. Adult Vaccines Now, more than ever, it is important for people to be fully up to date on the vaccines we do have to help prevent disease. Primary care physicians and pharmacies have created safe places and protocols for adults to get vaccines during the pandemic crisis and it’s important to continue with routine healthcare.
Most illnesses, hospitalizations, disability and deaths from vaccine-preventable illnesses occur among adults. An estimated average of 50,000 Americans die of vaccine-preventable diseases each year - with adults, and especially older adults, disproportionally impacted, according to CDC. Thousands more suffer serious health problems that could have been prevented with recommended immunizations. According to a 2020 survey* conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of GSK, the vast majority of primary care physicians (95%) say staying up to date on their vaccines is one of the most important things older adults can do to stay healthy. Seventy-three percent of adults ages
50-59 believe it is absolutely essential, extremely important or very important for adults their age to get vaccinated, however, around one-third or more of adults in this age group have never heard of or are unfamiliar with many of the vaccines recommended for them. Adults ages 50 and older may need a number of vaccines, based on their age, underlying medical conditions, lifestyle, prior vaccinations and other considerations. Recommended adult vaccines protect against diseases like influenza, pneumococcal disease, shingles, hepatitis, pertussis and tetanus. Although vaccines have significantly reduced or eliminated many infectious diseases that once regularly killed or harmed people, the viruses and bacteria that cause these diseases still exist. By getting vaccinated, people can help protect themselves from much of this unnecessary suffering. If you’re 50 or older, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the recommended vaccines you may need and can safely receive now. To learn more about adult vaccinations, visit broughtbyvaccines.com. Sleep Apnea
If you’re not coping with the symptoms of sleep apnea yourself, you likely know someone who is. The condition caused by interrupted breathing during sleep has become rampant in the past couple of decades. In fact, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine estimates that 26% of adults between the ages of 30 and 70 - some 25 million Americans - are dealing with the serious health condition. Despite that prevalence, according to the American Sleep Apnea Association, 80% of moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea cases in the U.S. go undiagnosed. One reason for this is that common myths around sleep apnea create confusion and keep many people from fully understanding the condition, which discourages them from asking their doctor about it, or seeking out effective treatment. To help better inform people who could unknowingly be suffering from obstructive sleep apnea, here’s a roundup of the five most common misconceptions out there when it
comes to the abnormal breathing problem. Myth No. 1: Sleep apnea may affect your sleep, but it’s basically harmless. Not true. Complications of sleep apnea can include high blood pressure, heart problems, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome or liver problems. Daytime fatigue resulting from sleep apnea can also contribute to irritability, difficulty concentrating or depression, and put you at greater risk of motor vehicle and workplace accidents. Myth No. 2: CPAP machines are bulky, cumbersome and a hassle to use. While CPAP machines - machines designed to help people suffering from sleep apnea breathe more easily and without interruption through the night - may have been bulky in the past, newer models are significantly lighter and easier to transport. Myth No. 3: Only obese people get sleep apnea. While more than half of people with obstructive sleep apnea are categorized as either overweight or obese, the causes of the sleep disorder are complex and are not boiled down to just one factor. In fact, lean, physically fit people can also develop the condition. Myth No. 4: If you don’t snore, you don’t have sleep apnea. Up to 20% of patients who have sleep apnea don’t snore. Myth No. 5: Only older people suffer from sleep apnea. Not so. While the disorder is more common after age 40, it can affect people of all ages - even children. Sleep apnea can be a serious condition but understanding its symptoms and keeping up on the best treatments available are the first steps toward managing it effectively.

Homebodies
After spending so much time at home in 2020, you might be running out of ideas to keep yourself entertained. If you find yourself with extra time on your hands, you’re not alone. Many people are looking for new ways to improve the time they spend at home. Follow these tips to revamp your space and enhance the time you spend at home. 1. De-clutter to cultivate calm Make your home your happy place away from the hectic world. Target the hot spots for mess and get organized to regain peace of mind. Do a bedroom makeover to create a space more conducive to sleeping. Whatever you decide, your body and mind will thank you. 2. Binge a new podcast Though they’ve been around for years, podcasts continue to grow in popularity. While you’re spending time at home, they can make you feel like you’re part of a fascinating conversation. Search for a subject or topic you’ve always wanted to learn about and dive in.
Or choose a show or film from a genre you don’t typically follow and see what all the hype is about. 4. Up your work-from-home game If you’re working from home, you might be getting tired of sitting at the kitchen table or lounging on the couch. Make your work setup official by finding a designated office space within your home. 5. Increase your cleaning efficiency Since you’re spending more time at home, you’re likely spending more time doing mundane chores. Get your cleaning done better and faster by boosting your laundry room setup. 6. Do nothing When you’ve run out of activities, work and chores, there’s nothing wrong with just letting yourself be. Many people don’t take enough time to decompress and recharge. Take advantage of some downtime to de-stress and relax.
3. Watch something out of your comfort zone Sure, you could turn on another season of your favorite show, but why not try something completely different? Choose a topic you don’t know enough about and turn on a documentary.

Non-Stress Powers Of Attorney Powers of attorney are helpful to avoid the stress that can arise if you need assistance due to illness. Dealing with financial institutions or hospitals can be difficult even when there are no issues about capacity. Powers of attorney are needed to authorize your agent to act without you having to be declared incapacitated. When a doctor provides a letter that a person is incapacitated, then the person loses the legal ability to handle finances or even healthcare decisions.
The durable financial power of attorney identifies the person who can legally assist you with paying bills and accessing your accounts for funds you need. Even a spouse cannot withdraw funds from an IRA for you unless you have a durable financial power of attorney. The medical healthcare power of attorney identifies an agent, such as a trusted family member or friend, who can give consent to medical treatment if you cannot. Arizona law also allows for the mental healthcare power of attorney which helps avoid costly court intervention when there is mental illness, brain injury, dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Without powers of attorney, the court must get involved. Two lawyers need to be hired; one for the patient and a one for agent or petitioner. After a court investigation, a hearing is held in open court—which is set commonly 45 days after a petition is filed. Pietro’s Pasta Ingredients 2 large eggs 1 cup all purpose flour
Directions • Pour the cup of flour onto a clean work surface and make a well in the middle. • Crack both eggs into the middle of the flour and using a fork lightly whisk the eggs making sure not to break the flour walls. • Gradually incorporate the flour walls into the egg by scraping small amounts into the center and whisking together. • Once the pasta has combined into a ball put the fork aside and start kneading. Don’t worry if not all the flour was used to get to this stage. If your pasta is sticky then add more flour! • Knead until dough bounces back after pressing your fingers into it.

• Cover the dough and let it rest for 20 mins. • Liberally dust your surface and pasta with flour and roll it until it is thin enough to see through. Keep adding flour to prevent sticking. Traditionally pasta is ready when you can read a newspaper through it! • Cut your pasta into desired shape, we tried squares then pinched the center to create bow ties, and cut into thin strips to create fettuccine ribbons. What ever you do, have fun with it! • Cook in boiling salted water for 1-2 minutes • Serve with your favorite sauce or go for a simple butter and Parmesan topping. • Enjoy!

Social Isolation “Social isolation has reached epidemic proportions during the pandemic,” says AARP Foundation President Lisa Marsh Ryerson. “Decades of research on prolonged social isolation and loneliness show that it’s worse for health than obesity, and as damaging to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.” If you or a loved one are experiencing social isolation, whether it’s COVID-related or a daily reality that was already present, here are some important facts to know - followed by tips that can help increase social connection. Few have sought help about their feelings. Of those reporting social isolation during the pandemic only 11% have turned to medical professionals to help address these concerns, and nearly a third haven’t sought help from anyone. Women are more susceptible than men. Women 50 and older are more than twice as likely as men to feel overwhelmed as a result of the pandemic. Forty-six percent of women in that
age bracket have felt anxious (compared to 36% of men), and 50% have felt stressed (compared to 40% of men).
Low-income adults have seen greater impact. People 50 and older in income brackets of lower than $40,000 a year have been more affected by isolation than those with incomes of $75,000 or more. Here are some steps you can take to help yourself or a loved one combat social isolation: * Discuss with your primary care doctor how you’re feeling and that it might be related to social isolation. * Request a supportive phone call from one of AARP’s Friendly Voice volunteers. This program is available free of charge, and you can arrange for ongoing check-in calls. * If the holidays or winter season have made social isolation worse for you or a family member, take the 3-minute test on the Connect2Affect site to assess your level of connectedness, then check out some practical tips for interacting with others. Social isolation can affect anyone. Find more helpful information at AARPFoundation.org.

Ready, Set, Go! There’s no doubt the pandemic has hit small businesses hard. Even in its early weeks, February to April 2020, the number of active businesses plummeted by 22%, according to a report from the National Bureau of Economic Research. Does that bad news mean that now is the wrong time to consider starting a new business? Not necessarily. Opportunities exist for small businesses today, including support and funding for start-ups. If you want to start a small business, here are steps to get you started. 1. Do your research First, make sure you understand the current market for your business. This step is crucial to turn an idea into a full-fledged business plan. Ask questions like: * Is this product or service in demand right now?

* Are there similar products and services out there, and are they succeeding? * Can this product or service be delivered safely for employees and customers? * Could the business support rapid growth if it really took off? 2. Write a business plan No business can find funding, investors or partners without a solid business plan. Learning to write a comprehensive plan also forces you to fully think through every aspect of your proposed idea. The SBA is a great resource to research types of business plans. Enlist the help of other business owners during the process if you can to understand how their plans helped them and what to avoid. 3. Fund your business Every business needs capital to get started. Your business plan’s financial section should provide a clear idea of the capital you need to launch. Most businesses rely on multiple financial sources, including: * Personal funds * Bank loans or personal loans * Investors * Crowdfunding 4. Develop a marketing plan Creating a brand identity and communicating it well is crucial to success. Consider hiring or contracting marketing services to help you choose your business name, create a logo, build your website and develop a strategic marketing plan to get the word out about your business. 5. Take care of business Dotting the Is and crossing the Ts is necessary for any business. Details include choosing your business location and registering your business, applying for all the required licenses and permits - plus opening your business bank account. Starting a small business is a daunting challenge, but it can also be a rewarding opportunity.

Yes! The owner(s) may add other family members or place the home in a trust, so family automatically has ownership in the property and equity as well.
Will my family be responsible for the debt?
If I take out a reverse mortgage, does that mean I will leave nothing to my family?

NO! Reverse mortgages have insurance automatically built in to protect the family. Most homes continue to increase in value over time leaving even more equity for family. Even if the property value should decrease below what is owed, the family can acquire the property for 5 percent less than market value regardless of how much is owed or how low the value may be.
