In my opinion the measure of a man (or woman) can be taken by observing what they do with a shopping cart.

This is one place where there are no laws or even rules to guide you. Sure you can leave it where it is, or you can do the right thing, even if no-one is looking. Nobody gets credit for moving their cart, but it shows me that you know how to be a responsible adult, even when there is no pat on the back. There is a TV show I am sure many of you have seen or at least heard of called “What would

This brings me back to the cart situation. Do the right thing, people. Even if no-one is watching you.

My issue with this is that nowadays it can be dangerous to react in the way you would want to. I have told my daughters, in particular, not to intervene if their safety could be at risk. But it should not be that way. People should always do the right thing, even if they don’t get kudos or acknowledgement. People should also not harass or bully others too, let’s be honest here.

you do?” In this show people are tested in fabricated situations to see their reaction when they think no-one is watching. Many of these situations involve stepping up when people are being harassed or bullied and yes, we should all put a stop to that kind of behavior.

I don’t mean inside the store, although I will judge you harshly if you allow your child to ram it into my ankles. Nope, I mean outside the store, in the parking lot. Once you get all your chocolate chip muffins, cheese balls and lactose free milk into the car and you have an empty cart, what do you do? Do you leave it where it lands? Do you push it onto a curb so it doesn’t roll away? Do you put it carefully between the parked cars next to you? Or do you take it to the cart stand, ready to be rolled back to the store?

coping with the loss of a loved one: Talk about the death of your loved one with friends and other members of the family. Let others know it is ok to talk to you about it.

For most, the sadness will diminish over time, but taking the time to grieve is an essential part of the process. We are naturally resilient, and most of us can cope with a loss and can, over time, move on with our lives. But everyone reacts differently to death. Research shows that most people recover from loss on their own with time, especially if they have a strong support system. It is important to remember that there is no “normal” amount of time for someone to grieve.

Accept your feelings. People will experience all kinds of emotions after the death of a loved one and all are normal. Take care of yourself. Eat well, exercise and get plenty of Celebraterest.the lives of your loved ones.

And when one loses a spouse or a significant other, this grief can be compounded. Although loss is a natural part of life, one may still feel overwhelmed and struggle to deal with these new circumstances.

Counseling professionals including clergy, can understand the importance of how culture and religion can impact how you handle a loss. These professionals will be sensitive to your traditions and will work with you to establish a plan that best fits your personal needs.

Coping with the loss of a loved one can be one of the toughest challenges many of us will face.

Coping With Loss

Grief has many possible faces and can express itself in many different ways. Remember, you are your own person with your own life experiences and relationship with the one who died. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You may benefit from talking with a licensed professional counselor who can help you cope, understand and accept your feelings and help you navigate through the grief process.

For many years, licensed counselors and other mental health professionals believed that processing grief was a predicable process for people. That once you were through the grieving process, you had reached closure and could move on. Experts now understand that each person processes grief differently and coping with grief does not follow a particular pattern. As a licensed professional counselor, I work with individuals experiencing loss. What follows are some strategies that I have found helpful when

Another difference from other states is the mental healthcare power of attorney which helps avoid costly court intervention when there is mental illness, brain injury, dementia or Alzheimer’s. If a person does not have these healthcare powers of attorney, the court must give authority to act. An attorney is needed for the patient and a different attorney for the petitioner. After a court investigation, a hearing is held in open court—in about 45 days after a petition is filed. Time, money and privacy is saved by appointing an agent through healthcare powers of attorney.

The medical healthcare power of attorney identifies an agent, such as a trusted family member or friend, who can give consent to medical treatment if you cannot. If insurance requires transfer to a skilled nursing facility before going home from the hospital, your agent can arrange that for you. Different from other states, the Arizona allows you to authorize your health care agent to follow your instructions for burial or cremation. Otherwise, when there is no surviving spouse, all of the children or other family members may have to be consulted.

Spiritual Thoughts

Alright families and communities, how are you doing? Is school going well? Are you transitioning into a new home comfortably? Are you working through the grief of a loved one? Perhaps some other, smaller change has made life a little challenging? As school started for my children in August, we were reminded that all change is loss, and all loss is grieved. This helped my children understand it was okay to feel sad about summer ending. It is a good reminder for all of us that even when we experience positive changes in our lives, like promotions, or a new pool, there can be a sense of loss at the same time. A promotion might bring a different work location, or different colleagues to interact with. A new pool might bring with it grief over lost time spent at the community pool.

I am reading/listening to a book called, If You Knew My Family, You Would Understand by Jack Shitama. He reminds us that there is no way around grief, only through it. He also reminds us that developing resilience to pain and loss helps us when the next big change comes around. By working through the pain of loss, we can handle loss better the next time it happens. Resilience helps us have a higher threshold to someone else’s pain as well, so when we see a family member experiencing loss, we are not so affected that we have to take away their pain entirely which in turn helps them become Someresilient.passages from the Bible that help me when I feel the pain of loss include: Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” And Romans 5:3-5 “And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”

May your days be blessed. Don’t forget, Spirit Song Church is dedicated to living out the commands to love God and love our neighbor. One way we are doing that is by offering a free after-school program starting in September on Wednesdays where school gets out at 1:00 pm at the Mountain Vista Club.
