From Me To You...

I truly believe that we all have superpowers.

Some people can climb the tallest buildings with a single bound, others can see through walls, and yet others can shoot webs out of their wrists.

Oh, right, that would be Marvel superheroes.

All kidding aside, I do think we have amazing strengths that we use in our daily lives. You hear about the person who lifts a car off of an injured person in an accident, the surge of adrenaline helps there I am sure. Or maybe it is as simple as a mother’s intuition that someone is getting in trouble, usually preceded by a deafening silence from the room full of toddlers.

My superpower is spatial awareness. Not impressed? You should be. I can load a dishwasher to capacity and everything gets clean. I can parallel park any vehicle in any space more than 6 inches larger than the car in question without a scratch. I can drive on roads in England and not get my car totaled by passing hellions. I can go grocery shopping and be able to fit every last bag of frozen peas and tub of Ben & Jerry’s into my freezer.

The best of all though is my packing ability. I was taught by my Mum how to pack things in things - you know socks inside boots, stuff like that. But it goes beyond the simplicity of ‘Traveling Tetris’. If you give me a pile of clothes and sundries I can, 9 times out of 10, make it all fit in your suitcase with room for one more cute top or pair of flipflops. The last time I came home from England I packed so efficiently I had one extra suitcase free - I of course used that space to bring home extra chocolate.

I wish I had more superpowers, like the ability to stay on task for more than two minutes, or keep my house clean and tidy without the panic of impending visitors. Also the ability to get things done in a timely manner. That is one superpower I would trade spatial awareness for in a heartbeat. Actually, I think I will keep the powers I have, unless someone wants to trade for invisibility?

Much of the country is still in the middle of a redhot real estate market. Home values are rising due to high demand and first-time homebuyers should be aware of how the value of their home impacts the way their premiums are calculated.

Location and structure type are two examples of considerations that can affect home insurance premiums, but so do the features of the home, policy limits, and, in some states, even a homeowner’s personal finances. Policyholders should be aware of the variables that are factored into their insurance coverage.

Location Location is perhaps the largest component when it comes to the costs of your insurance premium since it deals with exposure and hazard to the home’s physical structure. The type of home you have, where you live and the state or city in which you reside can drastically affect how much you will pay. In fact, location is such a primary factor that coverage in certain areas may require special policies. For example, homeowners living in or near large urban areas may find that

their premiums cost more due to the higher cost for construction or repairs.

Replacement cost

The more your home costs to replace, the more you will need in coverage to insure it.

“Replacement cost is a measure of the amount it would cost to replace or rebuild your home after a loss with a similar home of like kind and quality,” said Bonnie Lee, Mercury Insurance vice president of property claims. “This amount takes into account factors such as the square footage of your home, the local construction costs per square foot, and construction details unique to your home.Replacement costs and market value are often used interchangeably, but they are two completely different concepts. Market value accounts for how the neighborhood and its conveniences impact a property’s attractiveness to buyers, while replacement costs only refers to the expense of rebuilding a home after a loss,” Deductible The insurance deductible is one of the most important parts of a homeowners policy and plays a significant role when determining insurance premiums. The deductible is the amount of money a policyholder must pay before the policy pays out for repairs or a loss.

Homeowners that pay a higher deductible may decrease the cost of their premiums, but may have to pay more out of pocket when filing a claim. Home insurance premiums are calculated based on a number of factors that homeowners should take into consideration when researching the best coverage for their needs at a reasonable cost.

Preparation:

1 dozen large eggs, beaten 2 cups fresh spinach 1 medium red onion, sliced 3 large white mushrooms, sliced 1 clove garlic, minced Salt and pepper to taste

Saute spinach, onion, mushrooms and garlic until spinach is wilted and onion is translucent.

In a greased 8 x 8 pan, combine that mixture with the beaten eggs and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until firm.

ACEs

People from all walks of life are investing in creating awareness and understanding of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences). ACEs have been found to have a high correlation with the risk for cancer, heart disease, diabetes, substance use disorder, suicide, obesity, COPD, and premature death – all of which are preventable.

Research started by the CDC and Kaiser Permanente leaves no doubt that a child’s developing brain subjected to adverse experiences and toxic stress, is at far greater risk of succumbing to one or more of the leading causes of death in adulthood. A major factor, if not the main factor, underlying substance use disorder is ACEs that have not healed and are concealed from awareness by shame, secrecy, and social taboo.

Right now, data shows a dramatic worsening of ACEs in our youth. The number of Arizona children with two or more ACEs is significantly

higher than the U.S. as a whole (www.azaces. org). The price tag on outcomes related to toxic stress from childhood adversity is yet another factor compelling society to take note and make changes. According to the CDC, “the economic and social costs to families, communities, and society totals hundreds of billions of dollars each year.” (cdc.gov).

The ultimate goal is the prevention of ACEs and building resilience for those who have experienced ACEs. Widespread improvements in policies and practices within organizations, communities, caregiving settings, and households can turn this trend around. Just as research has made us aware of the shocking extent of the problem, research is also providing tools and new ideas for prevention and healing.

Legal Advice HEALTH CARE POWERS OF ATTORNEY

The medical healthcare power of attorney identifies an agent, such as a trusted family member or friend, who can give consent to medical treatment if you cannot. If insurance requires transfer to a skilled nursing facility before going home from the hospital, your agent can arrange that for you.

Different from other states, the Arizona allows you to authorize your health care agent to follow your instructions for burial or cremation.

Otherwise, when there is no surviving spouse, all of the children or other family members may have to be consulted.

Another difference from other states is the mental healthcare power of attorney which helps avoid costly court intervention when there is mental illness, brain injury, dementia or Alzheimer’s.

If a person does not have these healthcare powers of attorney, the court must give authority to act. An attorney is needed for the patient and a different attorney for the petitioner. After a court investigation, a hearing is held in open court—in about 45 days after a petition is filed.

Money Matters Many people have financial goals - maybe it’s to get an education, buy a car, purchase a home, or start a business - that require access to credit.

Sunday Blues Do you sometimes find yourself feeling less than optimistic as your weekend draws to a close each Sunday? If so, you’re far from alone. Stats recently published on Inc.com indicate 81% of workers have experienced the “Sunday scaries” in anticipation of the work week ahead. Still, it’s important to fend off those encroaching feelings and preserve the quality of your Sunday afternoon, since weekends are generally intended to help people relax, rejuvenate and enjoy time with family and friends.

In that spirit, here are five suggestions to help energize your Sunday.

• Be intentional about weekend plans. Plan ahead so you spend your weekend time doing what you really need or want to do instead of simply waiting for things to unfold. Fulfilling your plan can help you feel more in control, ward off procrastination, provide a sense of accomplishment and eliminate any sense of having “wasted” your weekend.

• Maintain a cheerful environment. Make sure your physical living area is neat, clean, well-lit and boosts your energy. A little scent therapy in the form of a candle, room spray or plug-in oil can be the mood boost.

• Consider disconnecting from your phone and computer. Keep thoughts of work from encroaching on your weekend psyche by unplugging from your screens until Monday morning. Protect your mental and emotional space from the stress of the working world and focus on self-care instead.

• Prioritize sleep and eating habits. Disregarding your normal patterns on the weekends - perhaps by skipping meals, overindulging in junk food, failing to stay hydrated or staying up until the wee hours - can easily backfire by Sunday night.

Following healthy habits can enhance your general sense of well-being and set you up well for the start of your work week.

Sundays are a key part of every weekend, so don’t waste them thinking about Mondays. Strive for a healthy work-life balance by claiming each Sunday for yourself, your own pursuits and your own self-care.

• Incorporate activities you love. Spend part of your weekend doing something you enjoy. It’s all too easy to get caught up in activities you feel you have to do that you never have time for the things that give you pleasure.
