From Me To You... “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” - Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities Seems somewhat appropriate right now, doesn’t it? I have sat in front of my computer for a few days now, thinking of what to write to you. I have a quote swimming in my brain, “The last 24 hours have been a heck of a year!” And that sums up our lives. Things are developing and moving so rapidly that it is hard to keep up. As I write this our children are at home for the foreseeable future, and most of us are working from home. By the time you read this in a couple of weeks I anticipate the whole country will be on lockdown. The irony of my last article is not lost one me. When I said I welcomed change I did not mean this!
LICENSED, BONDED & INSURED - LOCALLY OWNED FRANCHISE
It is not all doom and gloom though. I see examples of people helping others, sharing resources, putting up their Christmas lights and taping pictures in their windows so that those taking a walk can see them. Posting encouraging words and funny memes for

others to chuckle at.
Then there is the news. Ugh. I try not to pay too much attention to the sad statistics and instead focus on the positive ones. Let me share some with you. As of now there are... 89,918 confirmed survivors of this virus 95% of the confirmed cases are mild 2 drugs already in existence have been successful in treating patients 3 vaccines are in human trials in the US with other countries around the world conducting their own trials 0 new cases have been reported in Hubei province (the epicenter of Covid19) in 2 days The thing to remember is that this will have an end point and that we should try to calm the crazy hamster wheel running in circles in our brains. “You can’t calm the storm... so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself. The storm will pass.” - Timber Hawkeye As strange as things seem today we will get back to normal, even if it is a new normal. “Home isolation is not my preferred choice ... but it is a necessary one ...This is not a permanent state, this is a moment in time.” Gov. Gavin Newsom People will come out of this stronger, more connected and more grateful for the everyday things - going to a movie, visiting friends, travelling, attending school or college. While we are in this period I encourage you to be kind to each other, be kind to your family, and most importantly be kind to yourself. Until next month,

On Our Cover The ladies on our cover are members of the Trilogy at Vistancia Women’s Club. Their mission is to be... Social - encouraging friendship among the women of Trilogy. Charitable - they support Justa Center, A New Leaf House and provide scholarships to Peoria High School Students. TAVWC supports Justa by providing 100 sack lunches monthly. Twice a year TAVWC organizes community-wide drives to collect clothing, nonperishable food, toiletries, household cleaners and paper goods, and kitchen items to support Justa Center Programs. TAVWC supports Faith House through volunteering monthly to craft and hold a birthday party with the children. We bring supplies and birthday cake to enjoy and all the craft supplies for a project. In January we began scrapbooking with the women at Faith House. Volunteers provide one to one encouragement to the
women to use their creativity and express their feelings for their families by writing or journal entries on their pages. This is therapeutic, especially for those women that may be separated from their families. Recently they began collecting “dress for success” clothing for the Faith House women attending job interviews or court appearances and assisting in the delivery of donated clothing from a consignment shop in Scottsdale. At our annual holiday fundraising event, Mistletoe Magic, we displayed a giving tree for each charity. Each tree has a unique ornament tag listing the charities need, a dollar amount and information on the donor. All money collected from these trees is donated to the charity. & Fun - their fun includes luncheons, outings and entertainment. Future events include a 5K run to raise scholarship funds, a masquerade ball in November, wine and food pairings and the ever popular Christmas Tree Exhibit. Peoria 411 The Importance of the Census
As we progress throughout life, we learn that many things are naturally cyclical. Like summer vacations, things come and go but before you know it, they always seem to come back around again. One item returning to us in 2020 is the Census. I want to take a minute to discuss why this decennial count remains important for the nation, for Arizona, and especially for us right here in Peoria. The Constitution empowers Congress to carry out the Census in Article I, Section 2. The plan was to count every person in the newly formed country, and use that count to determine representation in Congress (apportionment). They accomplished that goal in 1790 and our country has done so again every 10 years since. Apportionment remains the original purpose of the Census and these results are typically the first data sets published after completion. This data is critical to assigning congressional delegation among states, based on population. Federal funds to states, counties and local communities like Peoria are based on population totals. When residents respond to the Census, Peoria is ensured its fair share of the more than $675 billion per year in federal funds. These funds are distributed through state-shared revenues, where allotments are determined based on population counts. Each person counted in Peoria is worth $3,000 in public services. Essential city services, including police and fire protection as well as roads, parks, hospitals, and schools all depend on an accurate Census count. The Census matters for the local economy as well. Businesses use Census data to decide where to build offices and storefronts, creating additional jobs. Peoria, along with regional Estrella Publishing - Mountain View magazine
partners also use the Census for emergency preparedness, revitalization programs, quality of life projects and more. The 2020 Census began on April 1 with data collection occurring throughout the summer. With the introduction of new technology this year, it is now easier than ever to respond. For the first time you are able to self-report online (2020census.gov), by phone or by mail. Individuals can self-report by using the household code that was sent to your mailbox last month. Self-reporting answers will reduce the number of people needed to canvas homes (and reduce government spending) later in the Census process. Please remember that your information is secure and private. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share your answers with others, including the Internal Revenue Service, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, courts, police or the military. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the city. By the way, the final count of the first Census back in 1790 was 3,929,214. . - Bridget Binsbacher, Mesquite

Pet Of The Month
This little girl is the puppy that wasn’t supposed to be. When my devoted companion “Abby” died, my heart died right along with her. No smarter, loyal, and braver dog could ever be. The tears, brokenness, and deep sorrow hung on for a year. “No more dogs, now we are free to travel,” we told ourselves. But no vacation spot or travel brochure replaced the unwelcome quiet that was our new normal. I missed Abby. Deeply. One year ago, my daughter began searching for Miniature Schnauzer puppies and sending me pictures. It finally occurred to me that when we lose someone we have loved, whether it’s people or pets, we don’t stop loving or living. The truth is, the more we loved, the happier our memories, which makes us want to love again. It is because of the joy and love we shared that we CAN love again, in their memory. Amazing Grace (Gracie) is a gift I didn’t know I needed. My heart is happy, I smile again, the house is full of puppy toys, and we take long walks together. Life is just better when shared with a fur friend! Ronda Strubhar

Spiritual Thoughts “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” (Matthew 25:40)
We have an innate desire for our lives to have meaning; for something or someone to be better because of us. The truth is, we have the potential to accomplish great good in this world but sometimes we aren’t sure where to begin. Spirit Song church in Vistancia has participated in the World Vision global 6K Walk for Water for three years and we are gearing up for May 16, 2020. These last three years, we’ve successfully raised funds for three deep water wells in villages of about 300 people each in developing countries! Three villages! That is over 900 people whose lives are transformed, not to mention neighboring villages with whom they share water.
change! A generous donor is matching $1000 in coins and giving a bonus of $250 for every additional $1000 in coins. Bring your coins to the event or contact Larry. Why does Spirit Song do this? We believe we are called by God to love as Jesus does. And we believe that serving the less fortunate is the same as serving Jesus. We want to share God’s amazing love by helping. Come take part in positive change. Easter is a great time to celebrate God’s love in the gift of Christ. Go to church Easter Sunday! If you don’t have a church home, we invite you to worship at Spirit Song church, April 12, meeting at Vistancia School, 30009 N. Sunrise Pt., Peoria, for a great celebration of God’s grace and love! See our ad in this magazine. Submitted by Valerie Fairchild, pastor of Spirit Song church in Vistancia
6K (3.7 miles) is the average distance women and children walk carrying heavy containers to gather water. At the same time, they miss opportunities to go to school or work. Think of all the ways you use water daily! Sadly, the water they collect is often contaminated. Water related diseases cause 3.4 million deaths a year. Having access to reliable clean water is a tremendous gift. Join us in making a difference. Join us May 16, 8:00 AM at the event lawn in Vistancia, 29701 N. Sunrise Pt., Peoria by joining the “West Side Water Walkers” at: www.teamworldvision.org/ team/13017 or make a donation. Registration is $50 for adults. Children register for $25 which is matched by a major donor. You might also form a ‘team’ within the “West Side Water Walkers” from a neighborhood group, club, business, or church. For details and with other questions, contact team captain Larry at larrybur123@gmail. com. Save your coins. Even your change can make Estrella Publishing - Mountain View magazine

Home School Help With our children at home you may be wondering how you can manage to keep them on track and be a teacher on top of all the other roles you currently have. As a parent who has homeschooled in the past I wanted to let you know what worked for me. Get up! I am not suggesting a 5am wake-up call, but they should get up and get going so that you are not nagging them to finish their work at dinnertime. Set a schedule. This will help all of you. Your children are used to routine at school and having that at home will create a new sense of normal. It will reassure them that even as their world has changed, this piece of it can be relied on.
Provide regular breaks. Playtime is very important especially for young children. Mental breaks are just as important for the teenagers. Send them into the backyard to run around, give them some screen time. Yes I said it, let them watch a movie or play a game during school time. Just put a time limit on it so they get back to what they need to do. Don’t forget exercise. This is one you should do as a family. Go for a walk, play relay races in your backyard, crank up the tunes and have a dance party. It will release tension and maybe even work off some of those extra pounds we are sure to gain during our time spent at home. Socialize with their friends. Skype, Facetime, texting, multiplayer online games. These are just some of the ways your children can interact with others and this is important. It will give them a break from the isolation and reassure them that they are not the only ones going through this. The most important thing to remember is that even though your kids will have work from their teachers, they are learning constantly. Whether it is building with leogs or playing with their siblings they are still learning. Go easy on them if they have a meltdown or don’t stay on track, this is not easy for them either. When A Recession Comes, Don’t Stop Advertising.
There have been a number of studies going back nearly one century that point out the advantages of maintaining or even increasing ad budgets during a weaker economy. Those advertisers that maintained or grew their ad spending increased sales and market share during the recession and afterwards. As a popular adage says, “When times are good you should advertise. When times are bad you must advertise.” There are several reasons to advertise during a slowdown. •
The “noise level” in a brand’s product category can drop when competitors cut back on their ad spend. It also allows for advertisers to re-position a brand or introduce a new product. • Brands can project to consumers the image of corporate stability during challenging times.
•
Studies have shown that direct mail advertising such as community magazines, which can provide greater short-term sales growth, increases during a recession. • When marketers cut back on their ad spending, the brand loses its “share of mind” with consumers, with the potential of losing current – and possibly future – sales. An increase in “share of voice” typically leads to in an increase in “share of market.” An increase in market share results, with an increase in profits. Another strategy used by marketers is changing the ad message and using short-term price incentives to match the economic climate with consumers who are seeking a good deal. Some advertisers will offer interest-free loans, coupons or special promotions to boost sales and market share. When the economy bounces back, regular pricing can return. For some advertisers that don’t give cost incentives, they can change the ad message to being expensive but worth it. Another creative strategy is pointing out the value the brand provides. Although the natural inclination for advertisers is to cut back on advertising during a recession, those brands that maintain their ad budget and/ or change their messaging can get a long-lasting boost in sales and market share. Perhaps the best quote about advertising in a recession came from Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart. When asked, “What do you think about a recession?” he responded, “I thought about it and decided not to participate.” -----------------------------We at Estrella Publishing are open for business and here working overtime to support our clients and potential future clients with their marketing strategy.
