From Me To You... Not everyone is born a hero. For Peter Parker it was a radioactive spider bite, Captain America was injected with Super Soldier Serum, and the Hulk absorbed too many Gamma rays.

However it starts, we all love an origin story. It can inspire us, or make us long for a bump of our own, something to push us into the next thing - a better version of ourselves perhaps. Sometimes the origin story is a search for a better way to do things, or a solution that noone else has come up with for a problem you want solved. Facebook started as a way to connect with others on the internet - that one exploded in a big way. Ferrucio Lamborghini was originally a farmer who made tractors. I guess he just really needed some speed in his life. Other origin stories are more personal, we all love to tell of the day we met our spouse, how we fell in love, or the birth of our children. I guess origin stories are really the tales of rebirth, re-invention. A new beginning. Let me tell you a tale of a new beginning that happened 10 years ago... It was the middle of the recession and noone was doing well. If you had a job you were terrified it was going to get swallowed up in the mass of companies that seemed to want

foreign labor over your own. The economy was folding in on itself, getting smaller and smaller every day. But in the middle of that despair we began to see new growth. People began to create their own jobs, their own companies, their own security. Estrella Publishing began in that time. An idea, the combination of existing talents, a desire to help these small businesses popping up all over the West Valley, and a history in the printing world that goes back a few generations. “Let’s start thinking about it.” I mumbled, terrified to even try. Al went out that day and sold 3 pages of ads to local businesses and we began to get to work! Since then we have grown exponentially and provided low cost advertising to thousands of local small businesses. We find ourselves in uncertain times, yet again. I encourage you to create your own origin story. You could have the idea for the next Facebook, Lamborghini, or if you are really lucky, Estrella Publishing.

Online Grocery Shopping Online grocery shopping is on the rise, and the options are plentiful - from having a shopper deliver goods at your door to curbside pickup and more. But even the most experienced grocery shoppers may find they need to learn some new tricks to achieve online grocery shopping success.

Tip #1: Find the delivery method that best suits your needs Need lots of fresh produce delivered right away? Look for a service that gives your list to a personal shopper to take through a local store and deliver at your doorstep. If you’re looking to stock up on pantry staples, a service that ships from a warehouse is a great way to get what you need without having to step foot inside a store. Many stores are also offering curbside pickup, where you pick out your items online, check out and drive to the store to have your order placed directly into your trunk.

Tip #3: Plan ahead Take advantage of the ability to assemble your grocery cart at home by assessing any long-term needs for staple items, like pasta, broths and beans. If you’re short on food storage space, look for foods packaged in square shapes. Stackable, shelf-stable cartons help make the most of every inch. Many canned goods now come in carton packages too. Tip #4: Give specific instructions to your shopper It’s sad but true: Sometimes your favorite items will be out of stock. If you’re using a personal shopping service, make sure to include notes for preferred replacement items, especially if there’s another brand or flavor you’d like if your first choice is unavailable. You can even note how green you’d like your bananas or how ripe your ideal avocado may be.

Succentrix Business Advisors offers a 10% Law Enforcement Discount

0

Tip #2: Be an eco-friendly online shopper There are plenty of opportunities to keep sustainability in mind while online grocery shopping. Packages that weigh less will translate to reduced carbon emissions during shipping. For example, carton packages are about 60% lighter than cans, and they are made mainly from renewable materials. Even pet food can be found in cartons.

214

VeronicaSas@Succentrix.com

Online grocery shopping might require you to approach shopping a bit differently, but with a little bit of planning and practice you can have the food and other supplies you and your family need delivered directly to your doorstep.

Laundry During Covid Good laundry practices in the home are more important than ever. Recommendations from the North American Cleaning and Sanitization Expert Panel offer guidelines to help reduce the spread of infections and illness when it comes to laundry practices in your home. These methods can give you better peace of mind, knowing that you’re doing all you can to help reduce the spread of viruses that cause COVID-19, the flu and colds. Here are some easy-to-follow do’s and don’ts for laundry best practices in your home: DO use a deeper-cleaning, high-quality laundry detergent that removes deeply embedded soils and germs. DO always wash or sanitize hands after handling soiled laundry and transferring wet laundry from washer to dryer, even in healthy households. DO use special precautions if COVID-19, the flu, or a cold is suspected or confirmed. Wear disposable gloves if possible when handling dirty laundry from a person who is sick. Dirty laundry from a person who is sick can be washed with other people’s items. Do not shake dirty laundry. Clean and disinfect clothes hampers, appliance and other surfaces that contact soiled laundry. Remove gloves, and wash or sanitize hands right away. Wash or sanitize hands again after transferring wet laundry from washer to dryer.

DON’T wait to wash soiled clothes or bedding of an ill family member - wash those items as soon as possible to avoid spreading infection in your household. DON’T wash bedding or clothes from a family member who is ill with laundry from other members of the household. Keeping that laundry separate can help prevent viruses or bacteria from spreading to others. Wash in hot water, using a deeper-cleaning laundry detergent plus a registered sanitizer and/or sanitizing cycle on the washing machine. Dry in a dryer on high heat. Wearing disposable gloves when handling soiled laundry from an ill household member can provide an extra layer of protection. Following these laundry practices can help ensure your family will be less likely to spread bacteria or viruses, says Dr. Gerba, helping to reduce the risk of illness for everyone in your home.

DO frequently wash clothing and other items such as bath towels, hand towels and kitchen towels. Bedsheets and especially pillowcases also require frequent laundering. DO use the highest temperature clothes washer setting you can safely use, according to the care instructions for the items being laundered if a respiratory illness such as COVID-19, the flu or a cold is suspected or confirmed. Yum Yum

What turns a recipe into a weeknight favorite? How about something easy and packed with flavor that can be made partly in advance? Add excitement by exploring cuisines like those of North Africa, with flavor contrasts of spicy, sweet and tart. Harissa-spiced Steak with Grapes and Preserved Lemon delivers big flavor in an easy and quick way. Two North African ingredients, spicy harissa paste, a staple in Moroccan cuisine, and preserved lemon, a flavorful condiment with a mildly tart, but intensely lemony flavor, offer a zesty contrast to the refreshing and lightly dressed grape salad. Harissa-spiced Steak with Grape and Preserved Lemon Salad - Yield: Makes 4 servings Ingredients 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided 2 garlic cloves, grated or minced 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon honey, divided

How To Travel Safely According to the CDC, traveling safely during a global pandemic comes down to two basic things: avoiding close contact with strangers and following a few common-sense precautions. With much of the United States slowly easing travel restrictions, research from the U.S. Travel Association reveals that 71% of Americans miss travel and are eager to travel again. So, what should travel-anxious Americans consider as they begin to enjoy the great wide open once more? The first thing is how you’ll get to your destination. The experts at New York Presbyterian Hospital say traveling by car is safest, but if air, train or bus travel are necessary, health experts recommend taking a direct route to your destination.

or any possible cross-contamination. * Go contactless whenever possible. Whether it’s checking in digitally, paying by credit card over the phone or opting for an e-signature, avoid direct contact with others. * Wear a mask when in public. Face coverings are now mandatory in most states and in all indoor public Hilton spaces. * Stock up on hand sanitizer and use it whenever you can’t wash your hands with soap and water. * You’ve no doubt heard it a million times but stay at least six feet away from others. It’s one of the most surefire ways to slow the spread of coronavirus. Research shows that when people take time to rest and recharge, their physical and mental health can improve. People need to unwind in order to be their best selves.

And then there’s the question of where you’ll stay. * Will you have a private kitchen and dining area, or will you need to eat out at restaurants each day? * Can you do laundry easily and safely, if needed? * Do your accommodations provide complimentary face coverings, sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer? Lastly, carefully consider your activities. The safest options are ones you can do outdoors like bike rides, hikes and visits to open-air attractions like botanical gardens. If you opt for indoor activities, check to make sure the establishment limits crowds, enforces mask-wearing and cleans often. Also consider: * Travel during weekdays and avoid holiday travel. Off-peak times mean less crowded rest stops and airports. * Pack snacks and drinks. Having snacks on hand will help you avoid standing in line with strangers Estrella Publishing

Business 411 When A Recession Comes, Don’t Stop Advertising.

There have been a number of studies going back nearly one century that point out the advantages of maintaining or even increasing ad budgets during a weaker economy. Those advertisers that maintained or grew their ad spending increased sales and market share during the recession and afterwards. As a popular adage says, “When times are good you should advertise. When times are bad you must advertise.” There are several reasons to advertise during a slowdown. • The “noise level” in a brand’s product category can drop when competitors cut back on their ad spend.

• Brands can project to consumers the image of corporate stability during challenging times. • Studies have shown that direct mail advertising such as community magazines, can provide greater short-term sales growth, increases during a recession. • When marketers cut back on their ad spending, the brand loses its “share of mind” with consumers, with the potential of losing current and future sales. An increase in “share of voice” typically leads to in an increase in “share of market.” An increase in market share results, with an increase in profits. Another strategy used by marketers is using short-term price incentives to match the economic climate with consumers who are seeking a good deal. Another creative strategy is pointing out the value the brand provides. Although the natural inclination for advertisers is to cut back on advertising during a recession, those brands that maintain their ad budget and/ or change their messaging can get a long-lasting boost in sales and market share. Perhaps the best quote about advertising in a recession came from Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart. When asked, “What do you think about a recession?” he responded, “I thought about it and decided not to participate.” -----------------------------We at Estrella Publishing are open for business and here working overtime to support our clients and potential future clients with their marketing strategy. Holiday Shopping

This year more than ever, we’re all ready to kick back and enjoy a relaxing holiday season. Shopping online is a great way to get your shopping done safely and conveniently this year - in fact, the majority of holiday shoppers plan to shift more of their shopping online compared with last year, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual consumer holiday survey. Whether you love the thrill of holiday shopping or are usually more of a gifting procrastinator, here are a few simple strategies you can apply to your online shopping that will have you checking holiday errands off your list in no time, leaving you more time to celebrate with family and friends this year.

1. Make a list (and check it twice) First, make a list of those people in your life that you want to delight with a special gift this year. Next, create a workable budget for your gift shopping as a whole, then break down that budget per person, deciding who you might want to splurge a little more on this year, versus those that might be just as happy with something

simpler. That way you’ll know what you can afford before your list gets away from you.

2. Start early No need to wait until Black Friday this year to score incredible deals on everything you need this season. Beat the holiday rush by taking advantage of early savings and deals, so you can stress less and get on to enjoying the season. Amazon is kicking off the holiday shopping season earlier than ever with its Holiday Dash deals event, bringing Black Friday deals and discounts to all customers earlier than ever. 3. Let gift guides do the work for you Need gifting inspiration? If you’ve got your list and budget together but are stuck on a few ideas, gift guides are the perfect place to start. Amazon’s holiday gift guides are easily sorted by things like price, age and areas of interest, so you can find something for everyone on your list, no matter the budget - just go to amazon. com/gifts. Still stumped? Let Alexa do the work for you by asking things like “Alexa, give me gift ideas under $50,” for more gifting inspiration within your budget. 4. Get more for your dollar For many, budgets are tighter than ever this year making it more important than ever to get more for your holiday dollar. Check out some of Amazon’s lesser known options, like Amazon’s Renewed Deals, where you can discover professionally inspected preowned, refurbished and open-box products. Follow these tips and you’ll feel more prepared than ever going into the holiday season!

Virtual Celebrations For most people, 2020 is a year of change. Remote work, social distancing and more have challenged people to find new ways to connect with each other. Fortunately, humans are resilient and their spirit for finding innovative ways to connect is alive and well. Even as the country reopens, many are still finding the ease of virtual connections to be appealing. In fact, there are many unique ways to connect with friends and family virtually. Here are some simple ways people are elevating every day and prioritizing relationships even from afar:

1) Recognize simple moments and celebrate little things Shift your mindset to focus on the little things that brighten the day. You can elevate every day by taking time to recognize the simple moments and special events that make life so wonderful. There’s no need to wait for a big occasion to celebrate! Send your friend a text with your favorite memory of you two together. Write ecards to family just because. Decorate the house with streamers to celebrate TGIF and then send digital pictures to friends to inspire them to do the same. Be creative and find ways to make yourself and others smile. 2) Think outside the box with video gatherings Your bond with friends and family can grow even stronger when you set up video meetings to celebrate and connect. Fortunately, there are many high-quality video apps to choose from. Maybe you want to set up a Skype date to play a board game together even in different locations? Propose a movie night and set up a Zoom meeting to watch the same movie at the same time. Many people use WhatsApp for international connection, so you can set up a family conference call from different sides of the world. Take the first step and research the plethora of free video chat options.

3) Host a virtual wine tasting party Cheers to any occasion or just everyday delights with a virtual wine tasting party with friends. This is a fun way to sample different varieties and connect in a meaningful way. For a tasting party, select a variety of options, such as a fresh, crisp Sauvignon Blanc and tropical Chardonnay for whites. For reds, consider a rich Red Blend, and a Cabernet Sauvignon satisfies the craving for a full-bodied wine. Don’t forget a ripe RosÊ, a perfect wine for fall pairings. 4) Explore different video backgrounds Get creative with your setting for virtual gatherings. Yes, there are times when your living room or deck will do, but other times you may want to jazz things up a bit. For example, set up tropical decorations and pretend you are taking a trip to the islands, or explore digital backgrounds that can be added to the technology of your choice. For example, visit https://www.pinterest.com/flattopwines/flat-tophills-virtual-zoom-backgrounds/ to download a virtual Zoom background that features the stunning setting of vineyards in California. 5) Utilize social media platforms Social media has been a way to connect with friends and family for years now, but recently with quarantines and social distancing, even more people are using it to connect to others. Share images and captions of whatever is meaningful to you and tag with related hashtags. Some popular options are #love, #family and #friends. November 2020

Are You Stressed? Face it, this is a stressful time. Everyone is coping with a lot - from anxiety about the pandemic and financial worries to stress around work and family schedules, and so much more. According to a CDC survey this June, over 30% of the respondents reported symptoms of an anxiety or depressive disorder. With so much stress and anxiety this year, many people find themselves sick to their stomachs - literally.

If anxiety is making you or a family member feel nauseated, you may have looked for overthe-counter remedies, which can make people feel drowsy or that you may worry about giving to children. If you’re looking for safer, natural ways to help relieve your anxiety-related nausea without adverse side effects, there are options that can help make you or your loved one feel better soon. Try these tips to help relieve nausea due to anxiety. 1. Enjoy some hot herbal tea Sipping particular beverages slowly has been shown to help reduce feelings of nausea. Whether you prefer hot or cold beverages, it’s generally considered most effective to stick to one or the other. All three varieties of herbal tea have been shown to help reduce symptoms of nausea: * Ginger * Chamomile * Peppermint

termed the P6 (or Nei Guan in Chinese medicine), can help relieve nausea and upset stomach when pressure is applied. 4. Enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy Patients at the Mayo Clinic who suffered from nausea were offered cotton balls with a few drops of ginger or spearmint to breathe in, which helped them cope with feelings of queasiness. A recent study published by the National Institutes of Health concluded that controlled breathing exercises and peppermint aromatherapy can be helpful, with over half (57%) of the participants discovering that the peppermint helped them feel less nauseated, and 62% finding relief with the breathing exercises. Others have found that inhaling citrus scents, like that of a freshly cut lemon, can help. 5. Inhale fresh air Breathing exercises do help many who suffer from anxiety-related nausea, as does simple exposure to fresh air. Walking outside, meditating or doing deep breathing exercises are all worth a try for relieving not just the nausea, but some of the underlying stress or anxiety as well.

2. Sip a fizzy cold beverage If you prefer cold beverages, try: * Ginger ale * Any clear carbonated soda Whichever beverage you try, sip slowly to give your stomach time to settle down. 3. Harness the power of acupressure One acupressure point in the wrist, Estrella Publishing

Budget Friendly Holiday According to a recent Coinstar Holiday Survey, the majority of Americans said COVID-19 will influence how they celebrate the holidays. Fortunately, by thinking outside the box and keeping a positive attitude, you can stay healthy, stretch funds and create merry moments. Let these tips inspire you to celebrate the holiday season safely and on budget: Maintain traditions in new, safe ways Traditions bring comfort and hope, so rather than forgoing beloved activities due to coronavirus concerns, get creative instead. Plan a car caravan to look at holiday lights and have everyone keep a scorecard of favorite houses. Set up a video chat and bake favorite holiday treats in real time from afar. Relatives can virtually tuck kids into bed by reading classic holiday books through a free digital video platform. These activities are safer to enjoy and will create meaningful memories to make the season special. Make gifts to save money A budget-friendly option is to make it a

homemade holiday this year. Face masks and hand sanitizer are great stocking stuffers that you can make. Patterns are readily available to make face masks and you can find recipes online for creating custom hand sanitizer. Plan a virtual gift exchange To enjoy the holidays safely, consider a virtual gift exchange with friends or family. Drop off or mail gifts and plan a time for everyone to video chat and open presents together. Get dressed in your favorite holiday attire to make the event feel special, whether that’s festive formal wear or ugly sweaters and sweats. Then, take turns opening gifts and feel the joy. Give gifts with meaning Rather than a traditional present, consider alternative gifts that show you care. Do you have a talent that would benefit others, such as tutoring a friend’s child who is studying remotely? Could you drop off a meal for a senior who’s homebound? Lastly, instead of a present, you could make a donation in the recipient’s name to a charity close to that Come see us at our new store! person’s heart.

Delay holiday celebrations If you still long to celebrate in person, consider planning a gathering for later in 2021. According the survey, about half said they would consider “Christmas in July” in 2021 for inperson celebrations. So, whether it’s a summer Christmas event, an early Friendsgiving or another winter holiday, it’s something to look forward to once it’s safe again. Send out “save the date” invitations and put your creative juices to work for a summer gettogether. November 2020

Medicine In Your Home Did you know that 70,980 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2019? And unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has only increased the dangers posed by misuse or abuse of drugs in the home. Beyond the fact that the pandemic has temporarily closed resources such as drug drop-box sites and take-back day events, opioid and other drug misuse risks have also increased due to financial and emotional stressors such as isolation and unemployment. How can you help prevent drug misuse? Here are tips to keep your home safer for everyone.

1. Store medicines securely While many store medications in a medicine cabinet, humidity levels in a bathroom can actually break down medications, making them less effective. In addition, storing meds in a medicine cabinet makes them susceptible to theft by anyone entering your home looking for drugs. This is especially true if you have children living in or frequently visiting your home, it’s best to keep all medications - including vitamins - in a high cabinet and secured out of harm’s way.

2.Discard medications safely Go through prescription and over-the-counter medications regularly to identify leftover or expired medicines. 3.Post the contact information for Poison Control where everyone can see it, like on your refrigerator door. Access Poison Control online at www.poison.org or by calling 1-800-222-1222. 4. Don’t call medications “candy” If someone in your family takes medicine or vitamins, never refer to it as “candy” to convince the child to take it or to explain why you’re taking it. This could make the child more likely to try taking pills that they find. 5. Don’t share prescriptions You may think you’re doing a friend or relative a favor by sharing pills from a leftover pain prescription but that medication was prescribed to you by a healthcare provider for a specific purpose, with knowledge of your health condition and other medications you take. You may not be aware of potentially harmful drug interactions or side effects your friend could experience by taking your medication. Stay safe by disposing of unused medications as soon as you no longer need to take them.

Youth Sports Tips This year when it comes to youth sports, seasons have shifted, practices may look different and competitions may be postponed, all of which have been difficult for kids who simply want to enjoy their time on and off the field, court, mat or pool deck. As parents navigate this new normal for their kids in sports, it’s more important than ever to support their kids’ athletic pursuits while also keeping safety in mind.

“In addition to performance, right now safety in youth sports is so important,” says author and sports nutrition expert Leslie Bonci, nutrition consultant for the Kansas City Chiefs. “Parents want their children to thrive in athletics - whatever that might look like this year - but also want to keep their health and safety in mind, so it’s important to take some proactive steps.”

To help guide parents, Bonci shares her top tips for maintaining a safe and healthy lifestyle for your child no matter their athletic interest:

Prioritize safety steps at home and away In sports settings, discourage sharing bottles, clean and sanitize them daily with water and liquid household chlorine bleach and eliminate any bulk food or beverages during practice and games, using individually packaged items instead. When they get home from practice, get them in the habit of washing hands again before settling in. Stay hydrated to fuel the body and focus the mind Proper hydration is important both on and off the field of play. Rethink their drink and increase electrolyte intake with drinks such as Gatorade. Create balanced plates and customized meals A well-balanced diet is essential for growing athletes to maintain proper growth and optimize performance in athletic endeavors. An ideal diet comprises 45% to 65% carbohydrates, 10% to 30% protein and 25% to 35% fat. For example, brown rice topped with baked chicken breast and a side of roasted carrots would be a wholesome meal. A good dessert could be a vanilla yogurt parfait with berries and granola. Promote smart snack and drink choices Stock your fridge and pantry with wholesome choices for growing bodies so kids make smart choices even when you’re not around. Cheese sticks and nut butters are excellent protein sources. Whole-grain crackers can provide a highquality carbohydrate. Nuts and trail mixes are easy on-the-go options that satisfy hungry bellies. “Things are certainly different now in youth sports, but that doesn’t mean kids can’t continue to do the things they love in mindful ways,” says Bonci. “A few smart steps to support wellness can help your young athlete be the best no matter the environment.”

Support Your Teachers Whether your community’s schools are in person, online or a mix of both, it’s the teachers who have the hard work of making school a positive experience. This year in particular, it’s critical to support teachers to position them for success so students can thrive. Consider these steps in supporting teachers and showing you care.

student’s world, it helps you be a more engaged partner in their education. Teachers appreciate parents and caregivers who stay up to date by reading grade newsletters promptly, checking emails from the school often and visiting classroom websites or social media pages regularly.

Add extra supplies: Go beyond the supplies list and buy extras for the teacher. This might be adding extra glue sticks and pencils, or, making a teacher’s care basket with personal items like hand lotion, sanitizing wipes, tea and coffee. What’s more, remember that supplies are needed all school year long. A mid-year supply drop-off is sure to be appreciated. You might even consider running a supply drive to help teachers in need throughout the year.

Practice patience and understanding: The 2020-21 school year contains a lot of unknowns. Whether it’s in-person, virtual or hybrid, remember to practice patience and understanding with educators as they navigate these new waters. Everyone is in this together and teachers are doing their best. Remember, the attitude you project about school is what your children will reflect, so make sure to stay positive and make the best of any situation as the year unfolds.

Ask about volunteer opportunities: In-person volunteer opportunities may be unavailable right now, so be proactive and ask teachers about virtual or distance volunteering options. You might be able to lead a virtual story time, help by checking digital papers, dropping off items at students’ homes and much more. Simply reach out to your teacher to show your willingness to help and you can discuss volunteer opportunities. Stay up to date: Being informed not only helps you understand what’s happening in your
