Have you ever found yourself trying to pick a Netflix show to watch and an hour later, you’re still scrolling through an endless library, contemplating the implications of your choice on the space-time continuum? In a world filled with so many possibilities, you might think that having endless choices is a luxury. However, as a victim of choice paralysis, for me it’s more like navigating a buffet with a never-ending menu.

Welcome to choice paralysis - where too many options leave us paralyzed, unable to make a decision.

As amusing as the Netflix scenario is, for some, choice paralysis can extend beyond leisurely activities to more essential decisions, such as career paths or major life milestones.

The pressure to make the right choice can be paralyzing, leading to prolonged periods of indecision and anxiety. The paradox of choice, (as coined by psychologist Barry Schwartz) presents the idea that too many options can diminish the satisfaction derived from the final selection. Or as I like to say, it’s not fun anymore!

If any of you have jumped into the heady whirlwind of home building you have seen the answer to this conundrum.

A well timed visit to the showroom has a designer with a limited selection of flooring, countertop and lighting available for you, making the process much easier. Give me three choices and I am happy, I will swoop in and masterfully decide the entire look for my environment in under half an hour. Having recently gone through the agonizing process of remodeling without help, I can say that it was much harder to make confident decisions by myself, and at times my brain felt like candy floss.

In hindsight, once I broke through the idea that the wrong decision would be a disaster, making choices was much easier.

So I challenge you to pick up that remote control, point it at the TV and make a choice.

And if you cant seem to pick, there are endless reruns of Friends and The Big Bang Theory to keep you entertained long into the night.

Strawberry and Nutella Crepes

This recipe for thin and delicate crepes filled with chocolate hazelnut Nutella and fresh strawberries will be the perfect breakfast or dessert for your loved one this Valentine’s Day. The first time making crepes can seem a little intimidating as they can seem to be fussy (in a way that a lot of French pastry can be) or that flipping something so delicate would require great skill. But not at all. These basic French crepes are surprisingly easy to make.

The ingredients are simple and the recipe is straightforward - you can even make it a family event with your kids.

You can make the filling with any ingredients you desire but for this recipe, we’ll focus on strawberries and chocolate spread. Other popular fillings include lemon juice and sugar, berries and cream, bananas and chocolate, or cinnamon apples.

Prep time: 5 mins | Cook time 10 mins | Total time: 15 mins Ingredients (6 servings) 3 eggs 6 tablespoons of flour 1 cup of milk 1 pint of fresh Strawberries (or any berries of your choice) Nutella Steps Wash and slice berries.

In a large bowl mix together milk, flour, and eggs until smooth.

Pour batter onto a lightly greased frying pan. Tilt and rotate the pan in a circular motion until the batter isn’t running anymore.

I find a ¼ cup of batter works best for each crepe in an 8-9 inch frying pan.

Flip over to cook the other side. Remove from pan.

Spread a thin layer of Nutella over one-half of each crepe and top with strawberries. Fold the crepe in half, covering the Nutella and strawberries, and then fold again (into quarters) Garnish with powdered sugar.

We surround ourselves with like-minded watercolor painters who offer encouragement and share ideas. We do not often engage a teacher; we work on our own projects.

We have been a group for over 5 years.

Occasionally, we have a field trip to paint out doors (plein air) or work with a guest teacher to improve our technique.

Furry Friends Canine Club It’s that time of the year again to review our Executive Board Members and invite new Members to apply for Board positions. Not all current members are up for re-election but if we have people interested in certain positions we can always bring them on and provide mentorship.

Board Members: President: General supervision and direction of the affairs of the Club. Serves as “spokesperson” for the club. Assists Social Chair in coordinating events.

Vice President: Assumes the duties of the President in the event of the President’s absence or inability to perform.

Secretary: Shall take, maintain and publish the minutes approved by the Club Executive Board of all Club meetings.

Treasurer: Collects fees and pays vendors/ suppliers funds for all Club events.

At-Large Member: Voting member, assists the Club in all functions as necessary.

Heart Health

Valentine’s Day is a good time to remind ourselves that while heart disease is still prevalent in American men and women, it can be managed and in some cases, prevented altogether.

The traditional risk factors for heart disease – such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity – affect women and men equally.

It’s an equal opportunity condition, which is why annual health check-ups and screenings are so important, according to Tammy Querrey, Director of Clinical Cardiovascular Care for Abrazo Health.

The most common forms of heart disease are coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart valve disease and heart failure, explained Querrey.

• Coronary artery disease is a build-up of plaque that can decrease blood supply to the heart and may lead to a heart attack. The most common symptoms of a heart attack are chest pain/ pressure, or pain that occurs in the shoulders, arms, back, jaw, or it may also mimic indigestion.

The pain may get worse with activity and

decrease at rest.

• Arrhythmias, also known as atrial fibrillation (Afib) or irregular heartbeat, are abnormal heart rhythms that occur when the electrical impulses in the heart are not working correctly. Common symptoms may include fluttering in the chest, sweating, fatigue and dizziness.

• Heart valve disease is when one of the valves is not working correctly. Symptoms can include shortness of breath with activity, fatigue, swelling in the legs/feet, dizziness, or chest pain, and a heart murmur is typically heard.

• Heart Failure is when the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the needs of the body.

People may experience shortness of breath with activity, swelling in the legs, rapid weight gain, and increased fatigue, these are often dismissed as being age related or out of shape.

Don’t hesitate to call 911 if you’re experiencing symptoms described above.

The good news is that there are many treatment options for heart disease that not only allow patients to live longer, but also improve their quality of life. Being proactive about your health can help you enjoy time with your Valentine year after year.

CB Gamers The Heritage of Games Board games have been a part of human culture for thousands of years. For example, versions of dice (usually the ankle bone of hooved animals) have been found as early as the 4th Millenium BCE. The earliest incontrovertible evidence of a board game (dating from the middle of the Third Millenium BCE) comes from the ancient city of Ur in Mesopotamia. Between 1922 and 1934 Sir Leonard Woolley excavated the Royal Cemetery of Ur, during which time he discovered a board game that has subsequently been revived and is now known as “The Royal Game of Ur”. Since that excavation, examples of this game have been found at sites throughout the Middle East, including a cuneiform tablet describing the rules of the game.

Also, similar games have been discovered in the regions of the world often referred to as the “Cradles of Civilization” (the Indus Valley, China, and the Nile Valley). These games, referred to as a “race” games, survive today in the form of such classics as Pachisi (originating in India) and Backgammon (which originated in Persia).

Strategy games like chess are a later development, with the exception of the Asian game called I-Go (the Japanese name), although it originated in China, where it was called Wei-Qi. This game dates to at least the Second Millenium BCE. It has gained prominence in the west, and there is now an American Go Association.

In recognition of the importance of games in human cultures and history, there is a new group (now six months old) formed in Corte Bella, called the “Corte Bella Gamers”.

We welcome all skill levels and all games. For example, we have played Cribbage, Pinochle, Rummikub, Sequence, Chinese Checkers, Backgammon, and Hand and Foot, just to mention a few. We hope to make this a great environment for learning and/or teaching, and of course playing, the favorite games of the members.

The group meets every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 8:00 PM in the Social Hall. Everyone is welcome, but if you’d like more information, feel free to contact the coordinator of the group, Max Fogleman, at mtfogleman@gmail.com. Adventure Group

Corte Bella Adventure Group

Looking for fun exercise, great fellowship, and a casual lunch out? Consider joining the Corte Bella Adventure Group. The club is organized and led by Steve and Beth Downing. Steve and others lead scheduled hikes and bike rides in county parks, conservation areas, and national forests to enjoy the beautiful wilderness areas of Arizona. The group also has occasional outdoor activities such as kayaking, and photography hikes, among others. Become acquainted with various desert plants, flowers, lakes, streams and gorgeous mountains.

Hikes are usually on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. The hikes are within a 40 minute drive with a few exceptions. We usually meet at the Bella Vista (formerly Anacapa) parking lot from 7 - 9 AM depending on the weather. We then carpool to the hiking location. Most hikes vary in length from about 3 miles at a leisurely pace to 6 miles at a faster pace. These are at the same location so people can choose which hike to

take and still meet for lunch with everyone at a nearby restaurant. For those looking for a harder workout other hikes are more than 9 miles at a fairly fast pace.

Some examples of past hikes include: Yavapi and Pipeline Trails at Lake Pleasant ( 3 miles and 5 miles) Mesquite Canyon Trail in the White Tanks ( 4 miles and 9.5 miles) Hot Shots Trail in Granite Mountain (3 miles and 6 miles) Munds Wagon to Cow Pie to Hangover Loop in Sedona (8.2 miles) Go John Trail in Cave Creek Regional Park (6 miles) Thunderbird Conservation Park (3 miles) Bike rides are on Wednesday and Sunday mornings, meeting at the Rec Center parking lot. Biking majorly on the quiet roads in Sun City West, these rides are usually 20 - 25 miles long, with a coffee break midway. Occasionally the group does longer rides.

In addition to the exercise opportunities the club provides, enjoy meeting a lot of nice people. I personally have made many new friends from these groups.
