EssentialsMAG May 2026 – South Wrexham Magazine

Page 1

Welcome to our May issue!

May always brings with it a sense of renewal - longer days, and that unmistakable feeling that summer is just around the corner. It’s also a month with two bank holidays, giving many of us a well-earned chance to recharge. With the Early May Bank Holiday (4 May) and the Spring Bank Holiday (25 May), there are two long weekends to look forward to - perfect for getting out and about, or simply putting your feet up.

This month is also an important one here in Wales, with the Senedd election taking place (7 May), giving people across Wales the opportunity to have their say and help shape the future of our nation.

There are also plenty of local events happening throughout the month. Take a look at pages 12-13 for a round-up of what’s on in and around Wrexham.

It’s always lovely to see so much continued support for our local businesses, organisations, and groups. Every coffee bought, event attended, and local service used really does make a difference and helps keep everything thriving.

Have a great month!

All the best, Vicky Heathfield

Call for More Blood Donors in North Wales

Only 3% of people in Wales donate blood, with over 75% of donors based in South Wales - highlighting a clear need for more donors in the north. In Wrexham, more than 373 appointments are currently available at local venues including St Margaret’s Church in Garden Village, Hafod Colliery Centre in Rhos, and the Parish Church in Chirk.

Each donation can save up to three lives, or help as many as six babies, making every appointment vital. Welsh Blood Service say simply sharing information can also encourage new donors to come forward. Donating blood is a simple way to support your community and help maintain essential supplies for hospitals across Wales. Book or share here: https://wbs.wales/EssentialsMAGWrexham

£22m Business Gateway for Wrexham

Wrexham University is set to deliver the largest capital project in its history, with plans progressing for the £22 million Wrexham Business Gateway. Backed by funding from Ambition North Wales and a £4 million contribution from the North Wales Investment Zone, the development will create a major new hub at the heart of the university’s campus. The Gateway is designed to bring together students, businesses, and the wider community, offering space for collaboration, innovation, and skills development. It will also become the new home of Wrexham Business School, strengthening the university’s role in supporting enterprise and professional growth.

Developed in partnership with organisations including Wrexham AFC, the project aims to position Wrexham as a key destination for investment and opportunity.

University leaders say the Gateway will play a vital role in job creation, business growth, and attracting private investment, while supporting the wider regeneration of the area. Once complete, it will stand as a flagship part of the university’s Campus 2030 vision and a major boost for the North Wales economy.

Deadline for June issue is 12 May. Email your local story to: vicky@essentialsmag.co.uk

Erddig Nordic Walkers (ENW)

We’re kicking off our renowned ‘Away Day’ series with our first outing - the ‘Pier to Pier’ walk from Colwyn Bay to Llandudno along the Wales Coastal Path. This is a very moderate walk, suitable for all abilities. Other ‘Away Days’ this quarter include the famous Mawddach Trail, along with an exciting new addition in June - our Anglesey Adventure. These outings are always very popular and fill up quickly, and are open to members only.

Our next New Member Training Day will take place at Erddig on Saturday 12 May - visit our website, erddignordicwalkers.co.uk, for details on how to join.

Membership continues to grow, with a regular turnout of around 150 walkers each week across our three programmed walks. This is fantastic news, not only highlighting the benefits of Nordic walking, but also reflecting the group’s positive contribution to health and fitness in the Wrexham area.

We are proud to be ambassadors for the Wrexham UK City of Culture Bid 2029, and to enjoy the rich history and culture of the area through our weekly walks. We also value our contribution to the local economy, with a sociable cuppa and chat in a local café, pub or eatery after every walk.

This spring, we are also pleased to be part of the launch of the new Wrexham Nature Prescription booklet, promoting mental health, wellbeing, and the importance of reducing social isolation - alongside the physical benefits of Nordic walking. Being part of the group brings a real sense of belonging and shared enjoyment.

Our motto - Exercise, Enjoy, Energiseremains at the heart of everything we do. If you’d like to be part of it and, above all, have fun, come along to one of our free New Member Training sessions.

Sing with Us Wrexham A Choir That Connects

Sing with Us Wrexham Choir, run by Tenovus Cancer Care, is a welcoming and uplifting group open to anyone whose life has been affected by cancer. Whether you are living with cancer, in recovery, supporting a loved one, or have experienced bereavement, our choir offers a space where people can come together through the simple joy of singing.

More than just singing

More than just a weekly get-together, the Sing with Us Wrexham Choir, provides a sense of connection and community. Everyone’s experience with cancer is unique, but being part of a group where others understand that connection can be incredibly supportive.

The benefits of singing

Research has shown that singing can have real benefits for wellbeing. While it can’t cure cancer, it can help lift mood, reduce stress, and has even been linked to boosting the immune system. For many members, it’s a chance to switch off, have fun, and feel part of something positive.

No experience needed

There are no auditions, and you don’t need to be able to read music to join. Songs are taught by ear, supported by lyric sheets and members can also access music online to practise at home. The repertoire is wideranging, with songs from the 1960s through to the present day, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Led by an experienced choir leader

The choir is led by Ioan O’Neill, an experienced choir leader who brings enthusiasm and encouragement to every session. His approachable style helps create a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable joining in.

Join us!

Sessions take place every Monday at St Margaret's Church on Chester Road, Garden Village (LL11 2SH). Members gather from 6.30pm for tea and biscuits, with rehearsals running from 7.00pm to 8.00pm. (Although the choir meets in a church, it is not religiously affiliated.)

There is no charge to attend, although voluntary donations to support the work of Tenovus Cancer Care are always appreciated.

If you’d like to give it a try, you’ll receive a warm welcome. Simply come along on a Monday evening and introduce yourself at the reception desk, or find out more online. You may just discover that singing together is exactly what you need.

Business Spotlight

Nightingale House Hospice

Nightingale House Hospice is a warm, locally rooted charity providing specialist palliative care completely free of charge to patients and their families across Wrexham, Flintshire, East Denbighshire, and beyond. From in-patient care and rehabilitation to family support, wellbeing programmes, and guidance for professionals, the hospice team supports people during some of life’s most challenging moments.

A wider reach

To help raise awareness of its important campaigns, Nightingale House partnered with EssentialsMAG for leaflet distributions across the magazine’s 15,500-home circulation, covering Wrexham and nearby Cheshire villages.

One leaflet focused on the Nightingale House Lottery, a weekly prize draw that gives supporters the chance to win up to £2,500 for just £1 a week. Another highlighted the ‘Leaves of Love’ campaign, where supporters can dedicate a tree in memory of a loved one in the Nightingale Woodland at Lodge Valley Park.

“Working with Vicky and EssentialsMAG made everything so much easier for us,”

Want to make your business a local household name and reach more potential customers? Call Vicky at EssentialsMAG to find out how an effective advertising/leaflet campaign can boost your business profile: 01978 855459.

says Sarah Povey, Corporate and Donor Relationship Manager at Nightingale House Hospice. “We designed and printed the leaflets, and Vicky took care of collection and distribution. For an organisation with limited resources, finances and time, it removed all the stress, and we knew our message would reach beyond our usual audience.”

Sarah added that the leaflet campaigns had an immediate impact. “We saw a noticeable uplift in Lottery sign-ups and interest in ‘Leaves of Love’ following the distribution. It was exactly the push we needed to reach potential new supporters.”

Sarah plans to continue using EssentialsMAG for targeted campaigns to raise awareness of initiatives that might otherwise go unnoticed. “For any local business or charity looking to reach the right people efficiently and effectively, I can’t recommend EssentialsMAG enough. It’s a trusted local magazine with a strong support base. I’d highly recommend it to any organisation.”

Discovering The Douro

Discovering the Douro: Portugal’s Most Scenic River Journey

I am no stranger to river cruising, having explored most of Europe’s iconic waterways - but my recent journey along the Douro in northern Portugal is, without doubt, my favourite.

Perhaps it was the constantly unfolding scenery - rows upon rows of ingeniously planted vines sweeping across rolling hills. Or maybe it was the warmth of the people, and the pride they take in their culture and history. The discovery of Portuguese wine varieties certainly helped, as did the delicious farm (and sea) to table cuisine. In truth, it was likely the perfect blend of all these elements that made this experience so special.

an overnight stay before taking the train to Porto, where I boarded the São Gabriel, one of Uniworld’s ‘Super Ships’ - and it certainly lived up to its name.

The seven-night cruise included all meals, drinks, gratuities, and a wonderful range of excursions, from guided walks through Porto to scenic bike rides along the riverside. My personal highlight was a memorable dinner at Quinta da Pacheca, a renowned vineyard near Régua, where we enjoyed exceptional local wines and their world-famous Port.

After the cruise, we spent a couple of additional nights in both Porto and Lisbon before our short flight home - the perfect way to round off an unforgettable journey.

Douro River cruises begin in the beautiful city of Porto - a destination rich in history, architecture, and vibrant food markets where you can sample traditional Portuguese fare. I flew into Lisbon from Manchester, enjoying

Wrexham Tourism News

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and is starting to enjoy those longer, brighter days - there’s definitely a sense that the season is shifting, and with it comes a real buzz across Wrexham’s tourism scene.

One of the biggest pieces of news recently is that Wrexham’s bid for Wrecsam 2029 has been longlisted - an exciting milestone and a real testament to the ambition, creativity and community spirit across the county borough. It’s been brilliant to see so many partners, organisations and individuals pulling together behind this, and whatever happens next, it’s already shining a positive spotlight on Wrexham.

Collaboration continues to be a key theme this year, and I’m particularly pleased to see the fantastic work of our "This is Wrexham" Attractions Group. Together, they’ve developed a brand-new countywide trail, launching this spring, designed to encourage visitors (and locals!) to explore more of what Wrexham has to offer. It’s a great example of how working together can create something bigger, helping people discover hidden gems while supporting local businesses along the way.

Talking of trails… dust off those walking boots, as the Wrexham Walking Festival returns from 6th–14th June. The festival offers a fantastic programme of

guided walks showcasing everything from our rich industrial heritage to beautiful countryside and lesser-known corners of the county. Whether you’re a seasoned walker or just fancy a gentle stroll with good company, there’s something for everyone.

It’s a busy start to June as Chirk Carnival also takes place on 6th June - a much-loved community event that brings together residents and visitors alike for a day of colour, fun and celebration. It’s always a highlight in the local calendar and a great way to kick off the summer.

This year also marks a very special milestone for one of our most iconic landmarks - Chirk Aqueduct celebrates its 225th anniversary. As part of the wider Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site, this remarkable structure has stood the test of time and continues to inspire visitors from near and far. A series of events and activities are being planned throughout the year to celebrate its history, engineering significance and its place in our local story - so keep an eye out for ways to get involved.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a fantastic season for Wrexham County, with plenty to see, do and be proud of. As always, thank you to everyone - businesses, volunteers and community groups - who play a part in making our destination so special.

Gardening Tips and Advice

May - Summer’s on its Way!

As bulbs fade and herbaceous borders grow, it is now clear that summer is approaching. Sowing and planting out bedding can begin, depending on regional weather variations, and you can take softwood cuttings. It's also time to get back into the lawn mowing regime, as the lawn will be loving the warmer temperatures this month brings.

TOP 10 JOBS TO DO IN THE GARDEN THIS MONTH

1. Watch out for late frosts and protect tender plants.

2. Earth up potatoes, and promptly plant any still remaining.

3. Plant out summer bedding at the end of the month (except in cold areas).

4. Water early and late, recycle water when possible.

5. Regularly hoe off weeds.

6. Open greenhouse vents and doors on warm days.

7. Mow lawns weekly.

8. Check for nesting birds before clipping hedges.

9. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of daffodils and spring-flowering bulbs.

10. Watch out for viburnum beetle and lily beetle grubs.

Classic Lemon Tart

A bright, silky lemon filling paired with a crisp, sweet shortcrust - this tart is a timeless showstopper, perfect for afternoon tea or a refreshing dessert. Serve on its own or with seasonal summer berries.

CHEF’S TIPS:

A ready made tart case will also deliver great results. Try sprinkling with icing sugar and caramelising with a blow torch for an impressive finish!

INGREDIENTS:

SHORTCRUST PASTRY

125g unsalted butter

80g icing sugar, sieved

1 egg

200g plain flour

Pinch of salt

LEMON FILLING

4 large eggs

160g caster sugar

Zest and juice of 3 lemons

120ml double cream

COOK: 45 minutes

SHORTCRUST PASTRY METHOD:

1. Combine sugar, butter, flour, and salt to form a crumb.

2. Add egg and mix until a smooth paste forms.

3. Shape dough into a disc, wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.

4. Roll out, dock with a fork, line with parchment paper and baking beans, and bake at 180°C for 8–10 minutes.

5. Remove beans and bake 4–5 minutes more until golden.

LEMON FILLING METHOD:

1. Whisk eggs until smooth, avoiding incorporating too much air.

2. Add sugar, lemon zest and juice, stirring gently.

3. Stir in the cream.

4. Pour mixture into a blind-baked tart shell while it sits in the oven.

5. Bake at 120°C (fan) to 140°C for 30–35 minutes until set with a slight wobble.

6. Cool completely before slicing or chill for a firmer finish. Serve on its own with your favourite seasonal berries.

Seasonal Treats in May

Let’s celebrate balmy spring days with four of the best British savoury spring ingredients.

Spring lamb

Succulent spring lamb is a Great British classic. Keep it simple to make the most of its tender, mild flavour and pair with earthy seasonal ingredients like boiled Jersey Royals or roasted aubergines or asparagus. While leg is the default family roast joint, fattier shoulder is often tastier and definitely cheaper.

Radishes

Traditionally, we like our radishes small and peppery in Britain. Use them simply sliced or chopped in salads, or try them cut in half and dipped in a little salt or salted butter, which compliments their nutty taste. You can also eat the leaves, which are slightly pungent, like rocket. Radishes are quick to grow, so if you’d like a home-grown supply, get planting now and you’ll be enjoying your own crop by the time our June issue pops through your letterbox!

Herring

The Atlantic herring, with a beautiful silvery skin and cream-coloured flesh, has been prized right across Europe for centuries, with records of salting recipes (think rollmops) dating back over a thousand years. It’s often

sold smoked, as kippers or bloaters. If you’re buying fresh, look out for red rather than brown gills and bright eyes, and eat within 48 hours, as this is a fish that doesn’t keep well.

Wild things: Fennel

Growing profusely in fields and hedgerows, wild fennel is a common sight in the English countryside, although it’s not actually a native species but was brought here by the Romans as a culinary herb. Not to be confused with poisonous species like hemlock, its delicate green fronds have a distinct fennel smell. Finely chop and use in casseroles, in stock for gravy or fresh as a herbal tea, where it will impart a sweet aniseed flavour. The pretty yellow edible flowers, which appear in July, are wonderful in salads or as a garnish, while the dried, crushed flower heads give chicken, pork or fish an aromatic kick when used as a seasoning.

May Shopping List

Help Give Wildlife a Second Chance

UK Wildlife Transporters, we are urgently seeking more volunteer drivers to help transport injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife to emergency care. Until recently, there was no national infrastructure to support the safe collection and transport of wildlife casualties. This gap often led to unnecessary suffering - and in many cases, avoidable deaths. UK Wildlife Transporters (UKWT) was founded in 2020 to help change that. Although still a small organisation, our impact has grown significantly year on year.

This year, we are expecting to be especially busy in and around Wrexham, working closely with RSPCA Stapeley Grange - the largest wildlife hospital in the area - to transport animals from local vet practices and members of the public.

Why this service matters

The reality is stark. It’s estimated that up to three in ten wildlife casualties, or orphaned animals in the UK, may die simply because they cannot be transported to a rescue centre or veterinary practice quickly enough - or at all. At the same time, veterinary practices, particularly during the busy spring and summer months, can become overwhelmed. Members of the public often bring in injured wildlife, but once immediate treatment has been provided, vets may not have the facilities to care for them long term.

Without a way to transfer animals to specialist wildlife rescues, this can sometimes lead to euthanasia.

Making a real difference

UKWT exists to bridge that gap. So far, we have helped over 1,400 wild animals reach the urgent care they need, and demand for our service continues to grow. In 2026 alone, we expect to assist with a further 1,500 animals.

We support wildlife rescue centres by ensuring there are enough volunteer drivers available to collect animals from members of the public - particularly those who are unable to drive or access transport themselves. We also work closely with veterinary practices, providing them with a network of local, trained volunteer drivers who can safely transfer wildlife to rescue centres for rehabilitation and eventual release.

Could you help?

UKWT’s goal this year is to build a strong enough network of volunteer drivers to respond to every call for help. By giving just a little of your time, you could play a vital role in giving injured and vulnerable wildlife a second chance.

If you’d like to get involved and become a volunteer driver, you can help make a real, life-saving difference. Please contact me on the details below for more information.

Real understanding

A Helping Hand With Marketing

For many local business owners, marketing isn’t the problem - finding the time and knowing where to start is.

Running a business already means juggling multiple roles. Adding marketing on top can feel overwhelming, especially when the options seem endless: social media, websites, advertising, PR. Where should you start? It is no surprise that many businesses either put it off or try a bit of everything without a clear plan – and then the ‘overwhelm’ sets in and everything stops.

This is where having the right support can make a real difference.

Some marketing providers, like Time for Marketing, take a more practical and personal approach. Rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions, the focus is on understanding each business - what it does, who it serves, and what it is trying to achieve. From there, a clear and realistic plan can be built.

Often, the most valuable support isn’t about doing more marketing, but concentrating on the right kind. The first step is always to identify your target audience. Then we come onto clarifying your message, choosing the channels that really do reach that audience, or simply creating a consistent plan that’s manageable alongside day-to-day work.

For some businesses, that support comes in the form of guidance - helping them build confidence and skills, particularly in areas like social media or content. For others, it’s about taking certain tasks off their plate altogether, freeing up time to focus on running the business.

What makes this approach effective is its focus on relationships. Taking the time to understand a business properly often leads to better decisions, more relevant marketing, and stronger long-term results.

Marketing doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. With the right support, it can become a structured, manageable part of your business - one that works steadily in the background to build awareness, trust, and growth.

And sometimes, all it takes is a helping hand to get started.

The Rise of Girls’ Rugby

Girls’ and women’s rugby is currently experiencing rapid, unprecedented growth, with global participation increasing by a whopping 28% since 2018. Nearly two million women and girls now play globally, with females making up 25% of the total rugby population.

In England alone, female player numbers surged by 60% between 2017 and 2023, while World Cup viewership smashed all records, with nearly half a million tickets sold and 5.8 million people tuning in to watch the Red Roses lift the ultimate prize.

World Rugby’s aim is to get 3.4 million women and girls participating globally by 2029, and with the huge increase in investment currently going into the game, doubtless this will be achieved.

Valkyries Rugby

And the good news is that you can be part of this exciting ambition! Valkyries are a girls’ rugby hub based at Wrexham Rugby Club, covering all age groups from Under 8s through to Under 18s.

We train on Friday evenings from 6.007.30pm, with matches usually taking place on Sunday afternoons, and we welcome all abilities - from girls who’ve never held a rugby ball before through to experienced players. It’s a fun, vibrant, and highly inclusive community, run by volunteers who are passionate about girls’ and women’s rugby and are determined to play their part in helping the game succeed.

It’s about more than just the game of rugby itself, though, and we pride ourselves at Valkyries on helping to instil confidence and self-belief in girls and young women through the rugby values of working hard and enjoying ourselves, both on and off the pitch.

Strength-to-strength

From what began as just a handful of girls back in 2018 to an over-100-strong community now, Valkyries Rugby is going places. If you, or any girls you know, think they might like to make new friends, improve fitness levels, and have a whole lot of fun, then please get in touch - we’d love to welcome you to our community.

Alyn Family Doctors Latest News

Regular health reviews are a key part of managing long-term conditions and helping patients stay as well as possible. At Alyn Family Doctors, we strongly encourage patients to attend their routine condition reviews, as these appointments play an important role in preventing complications and identifying any concerns early.

Condition-specific reviews are designed to monitor how well your condition is controlled and whether any changes are needed to your care.

For example, asthma reviews check symptoms, inhaler technique, and overall control to reduce the risk of flare-ups.

Diabetes reviews focus on blood sugar levels, kidney health, and lifestyle factors, helping to prevent longer-term complications.

Patients taking anticoagulants, such as DOACs, also require regular reviews to ensure their treatment remains safe and effective.

These reviews are not only about monitoring results but also about giving patients personalised advice to support their health and wellbeing.

To enhance the way we deliver care, the surgery is introducing MEDlink.

MEDlink is a digital system that helps us to better track and manage patient reviews and prepare more effectively for appointments.

Patients will receive a secure link via text message or email, inviting them to complete a short set of questions about their health prior to their review. This approach allows us to better understand your needs before your appointment and, in some cases, may reduce the need for multiple visits to the surgery. It also helps ensure that any face-to-face or telephone consultations are more focused, efficient, and tailored to you.

For patients who are unable to use digital technology, appointments can still be arranged in the usual way, ensuring everyone continues to have access to care.

As part of this improvement, health checks will now be organised by patients’ birth months. Patients will be invited for their reviews during their birth month, which may mean some are scheduled slightly earlier or later than usual to align with this new system.

We appreciate your support and encourage you to attend when invited, as regular reviews are essential in helping you stay healthy.

Five Ways to Reduce Your Inheritance Tax Bill

Inheritance Tax (IHT) can significantly impact the wealth you leave behind for your loved ones. The current standard rate is 40% on the value of your estate above the tax-free threshold of £325,000 (known as the nil-rate band). Fortunately, there are several strategies to reduce your IHT liability and maximise the amount that will reach those you love.

1. Make use of your Nil-Rate Bands

The nil-rate band allows you to pass on up to £325,000 without incurring IHT. Additionally, the current residence nil-rate band (RNRB) provides an extra £175,000 allowance if you leave your home to your direct descendants, such as children or grandchildren. This means that a married couple could pass on a maximum £1 million tax-free. It is essential to review how your estate is structured to maximise these allowances.

2. Consider making lifetime gifts

Gifting assets during your lifetime is a common and effective way to reduce the value of your estate. You can currently make gifts of up to £3,000 per year without attracting IHT, which is known as the annual exemption. You can also give away up to £250 to as many people as you like each tax year. Additionally, any gifts made more than seven years before your death are considered “Potentially Exempt Transfers” and may not be subject to IHT. However, if you die within seven years of making the gift, a sliding scale of tax known as "taper relief" may apply.

3. Establish Trusts

Trusts are a sophisticated tool for estate planning and can be used to manage how and when your assets are distributed. By placing assets into a trust, you can reduce the taxable value of your estate while retaining

some control of them. Trusts can also help protect assets from potential future disputes among your beneficiaries. However, the rules around trusts are complex, so it’s sensible to gain advice to determine the best strategy for your situation.

4. Consider charitable donations

Donating to charity can lower your IHT bill. If you leave at least 10% of your estate to a registered charity, the rate of IHT on the remaining estate reduces from 40% to 36%. This not only supports a cause you care about but also provides a tangible tax benefit.

5. Take out life insurance

Life insurance can be a practical way to cover any IHT liability. By taking out a policy written in trust, the payout will not form part of your estate and can be used to settle any IHT due, ensuring your loved ones receive their full inheritance.

If you would like us to help you to understand and utilise the reliefs and exemptions available to you so you can reduce your IHT bill and ensure your wealth is passed to your loved ones, please feel free to contact us today.

Advice relating to Trusts necessitate the referral to a service that is separate and distinct to those offered by St. James’s Place. Trusts are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

The levels and bases of taxation, and reliefs from taxation, can change at any time and are generally dependent on individual circumstances.

We Don’t Buy Crime Team

The chances are, if you live or work in North Wales, you may have seen signage on farms or in town centres with the “We Don’t Buy Crime” Logo and typical handprint on it, but have you ever wondered what is this about?

We Don’t Buy Crime is a Crime Prevention initiative launched in North Wales by the Police in June 2023. It is the biggest crime prevention activity we have undertaken in North Wales, supported by a team of 14 officers, 10 PCSOs across the force, a covert officer, an administrator, analyst and led by a dedicated sergeant.

The initiative addresses several strands of crime prevention work. The team do lots of talks at events and in community groups, aiming to raise awareness of crime prevention techniques, but they also work with victims of crime providing crime prevention packs with forensic liquid (smart water), and UV pens.

Businesses and farms are included in the campaign, and officers give advice on how they can protect their livelihoods against burglaries and cyber-crime, as well as engaging with second hand retailers promoting responsible retailing. As North Wales is a tourist destination, they

also give advice to businesses such as hotels on how to recognise the signs of exploitation.

At various times of the year, the team will do “pop up” style crime prevention activities linked to seasonal crime types, or as a direct response to a crime series such as a bike or tool marking event. So if you see our friendly team on a stall please say hello!

We will hopefully be publishing a few more articles on crime prevention in future editions of EssentialsMAG, but for today’s top tip I would suggest visiting our website for lots of advice on protecting your home and car from crime: www.crimepreventionnorthwales.co.uk

Hopefully, the next time you see a “We Don’t Buy Crime” sign you will now know a little bit more about the handprint and how we are keeping our communities safe - perhaps you can play a game to see who can spot the most handprints!

If anyone wishes a member of the team to attend a group to give a talk, please email: wedontbuycrime@northwales.police.uk
