Are You a Good Communicator?

By EssentialsMAG motivation contributor SASHA KENNEY Good communication is a base for quality relationships with others at home, at work and with friends. I don’t know about you, but I think there is always room for improvement.

Here are some top tips on how we can communicate better: 1. Listen more than you speak There is a good reason why we have two ears and one mouth – a reminder of what is important! Listening is key to a healthy relationship. Research shows that we only really listen 50% of the time. We are mostly waiting for our chance to speak, wanting to make our point. Listening means to enter into the world of the other person, to intend to understand them, even when we disagree with what they are saying.

2. Try to send a clear message There is a huge difference between just saying something, and saying something with intention. Say words which are meaningful and will drive the point home.

Keep the goal in mind - whether you are in a job interview, business meeting or having a conversation with your partner.

When you know where you’re going with your words, it is much more likely that your message will come across crystal clear.

3. Make use of your body language We communicate with more than just words. Everything that is in our heart and mind is expressed through our body, our facial expressions, body language, eye contact and the tone of our voice.

All your non-verbal gestures are intuitively picked up and understood by others. For effective communication you need to be able to master positive body language.

Food for thought...

Professor Mehrabian combined the statistical results of the two studies and came up with the now famous rule, that communication is only 7% verbal and 93% non-verbal.

The non-verbal component was made up of body language (55%) and tone of voice (38%).

So, go on, and start a meaningful conversation. Use your body language effectively. And most importantly: Listen to understand, not to reply.

Christmas Bookings Being Taken Open Monday - Sunday in December

Ian Lucas MP for Wrexham I would like to begin by saying a big ‘thankyou’ to everyone who attended this year’s Singing Streets choir festival in Wrexham town centre. It was our fourth, and biggest, event yet, with 31 choirs involved.

I’m grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success, from our sponsors, partners and volunteers to the members of the public who turned out in great numbers and, of course, our wonderful choirs.

Singing Streets is part of an impressively long list of cultural events to be staged in Wrexham, which now bills itself – quite rightly – as ‘the festivals town’. The aim is to encourage people to come into the town centre, to present Wrexham in a positive light and celebrate the arts.

It is good that so many people want to come to our festivals in Wrexham and I wish it easier for them to get here on public transport, as I appreciate the fact that our present system is not adequate.

I have been pressing for improved transport links during my time as MP and, rest assured, it remains a priority of mine.

Wrexham rather than further down the line at Chester. A lot of resilience was required but we got there – thanks also to the commitment of Welsh Government Rail Minister, Ken Skates, the advent of Transport for Wales and help from Steve Rotherham, Liverpool City Region Mayor.

Further rail improvements are on their way.

The creation of the Transport for Wales public body, modelled on Transport for London, has been a positive move. It creates a structure within which we can begin to design transport systems which serve people and are not purely driven by the profit motive.

We need to have much more integrated transport in our communities, applying new technologies and ways to travel, with interchangeable tickets for bus, rail and any other form of travel. We also need a plan the development of sustainable transport systems, including cycling and more healthy methods of moving around.

Such improvements a require investment, of course. And through my work in Westminster, particularly with the Labour Towns group, I will continue to make sure towns like ours are not left behind.

Advances have been hard-fought but we are seeing progress. For example, earlier this year saw the reopening of a direct train link from Wrexham to Liverpool – the first direct service since the mid-1970s, made possible by the reopening of the Halton Curve.

America’s Pacific Northwest USA Specialist Howard Davies takes us on a road-trip through America’s Pacific Northwest. After over 190 visits to America, covering some 37 states the question is always “where next?”

In June this year, I toured the Pacific Northwest, revisiting some old favourites and taking in some amazing new sights.

Portland is perhaps one of the most accessible of American cities, and, with easy to use and inexpensive transportation, all the key sights are so easy to take in. Port Townsend was our first driving stopover with a wide choice of wonderful B&B’s.

Worthy of a couple of nights especially as nearby Port Angeles has a ferry service to Victoria on Canada’s Vancouver Island.

Those keen on hiking may wish to allow an extra night or two to explore as walking trails are abundant. The unique microclimate in this region is reflected by our accommodation - The Rain Forest Village overlooking Lake Quinault.

Heading south, Cannon Beach was one of the highlights of the Oregon coastline which, whilst spectacular in parts, still plays a significant role in the logging industry so choose your stops wisely. Microbreweries abound, so getting the car parked up for a night or two was a bonus.

Moving inland during the summer brings generally warmer temperatures even though Crater Lake National Park was still partly closed in late June whilst snow was being cleared! Our stay in Grants Pass was at the Weaksu Inn and was amazing! The

drive up the Willamette Valley and a visit to Kings Estate Winery was further enhanced by the tax-free dining and shopping throughout Oregon that is worth around an extra 10 cents to the Pound!

One of the highlights along the Columbia River Gorge is Multnomah Falls and, be warned, it gets extremely busy and parking is limited. Get there early! Throughout the Pacific Northwest the ‘Farm-to-table’ philosophy provided exceptional dining including the unpretentious Sixth Street Bistro & Pub in Hood River, a town that attracts all ages for a host of water based activities in this natural ‘wind-tunnel’ where the gorge narrows.

Walla Walla was a welcome break from our busy schedule with two nights to sample this ‘Foodies town’ in the middle of another great wine area. The restaurant at our sumptuous hotel – The Eritage is amazing.

The town itself feels somewhat upscale yet unpretentious making us feel as if we were returning family and not just passing through. Heading north, The Cascade Loop was a surprisingly quiet drive through one of America’s most unspoilt regions with time to detour via Pybus Public Market in Wanatchee, the quirky ‘Alpine Village’ of Leavenworth, the stunning Methow Valley and an overnight and dinner at the breath-

taking Sun Valley Lodge. This was followed by leisurely drive through North Cascade National Park as we headed for the ferry at Anacortes. The ferry across the Friday Harbor was 90 minutes of beauty and tranquillity broken only by the occasional seaplane overflying to one of the remote passing islands. From Friday Harbor we embarked on a state-of-art vessel with Maya’s Legacy and experienced whale watching in the company of marine naturalists and a handful of other guests – highly recommended!

Rather than spend the final nights in Seattle, we opted for the Cedarbrook Lodge which, although listed as an airport hotel, was amazing and very quiet! Easy access into the city, fantastic on-site dining and convenient for a day trip south to Mount Rainier. Seattle is a very popular port for cruises to Alaska and, with a lot of what we saw could be covered in a scaled down pre, or post, cruise itinerary.

Keep hydrated. Drink lots of water when travelling at higher altitudes (same goes for longhaul flying).

BRHS - Burton Rossett Horticultural Society Celebrates 70th Annual Show On Saturday 24th August the Burton & Rossett Horticultural Society held their annual flower show as part of the Rossett Village Festival. The weather was glorious, and the exhibits were of a very high standard.

There were 412 exhibits for the visitors to admire from 99 exhibitors – both these numbers slightly up on last year. The Junior’s section was particularly strong with 76 exhibits by 40 children covering 8 classes. Also, very strong was one of the classes in the cookery section – the Bara Brith made to a set recipe where there were 18 entries. There were 65 entries in the Flower section, 80 in Vegetables, 69 in Craft and 56 in Cookery.

Mike Jarvis virtually swept the board winning 15 first prizes in the 29 classes in Flowers and Vegetables he entered. He picked up the prestigious Banksian medal - the highest award the Royal Horticultural Society allows a village society to award. Along with this he collected the Nat Maurice Jones Bowl and Special Award for the most meritorious exhibit.

Dave Burrows won the cup for the highest points in the Cookery section and Sally Gosmore won the most meritorious exhibit for her jam. Fiona Morris was awarded first in all of the four Floral Art classes and won both cups in this section. Janice James was awarded the cup for the most meritorious exhibit in the Craft section with Helen Roberts winning the highest points in that section of the show.

As already mentioned, the competition in the Junior section was strong and Sophie and Ellen Montgomery shared the honours for the highest points while Alice Keeble, age 5, was awarded the cup for the best exhibit with her painting of a cockerel.

Maes y Pant Latest News

The first thing to say is we're having an event in Maes y Pant, on Saturday 9th November and calling it: ‘Trees for Kids’. The funding is coming from all of you who supported our cause, and who spent money at the Marford Co-op during 2018. We hope to make this a sociable and enjoyable day running from 10am to 3pm.

It's primarily aimed at families and children, who will be able to plant saplings. We are raising awareness of the importance of woodlands and taking care of the environment. There will be a story teller during the day (I think a Gruffalo was mentioned), HACK Horse Sanctuary will be bringing along a pony, various stalls, a face painter and much more.

The winners of our photographic competition for our 2020 calendar will also be announced, and if all goes well, copies will be available.

We now have an entrance sign on Pant Lane, so we're no longer anonymous. We’ve also finished the changes to the footpaths as a result of a review earlier in the year. Basically we’ve tried to make the all abilities path easier to use by wheelchairs and pushchairs from the main entrance. The slope into the quarry is steep so we’ve introduced an additional ‘V’ shaped length to make it easier. Beyond the play area, the footpath had a significant camber, so that has been addressed. We’ve also flattened out the slope a little leading to the arboretum and put in a respite stop on one of the sloping lengths of path leading to the wizard. The colour of the new parts is strikingly different but I’m told will change to match the rest of the path. We’re also trying to improve the drainage to prevent water running down the steep path into the quarry, which is part of the all abilities route.

If it works, we can look at bringing that stretch of path back up to scratch.

Some of the wooden risers on the steps are failing. I think we've replaced about six so far.

We’re inspecting the steps every month. A missing riser isn't a hazard in itself but it does mean the step itself will deteriorate and this will be a problem. We think the best way for dealing with this problem is to replace them as they fail, so if you spot any missing in the future then please let us know.

We were glad to meet some of you at our stand at the Concert in the Park. It was a lovely day all round. Hope to see you at our event on 9th November.

Marford and Gresford Scarecrow Trail 2019 Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this such a great event this year. Especially to Gresford Spar, Marford Co-Op and Gresford Newsagents for selling entry forms, to Delmar for printing the entry forms for us, and a special thanks to all the scarecrow-makers, without whom there would have been no event, and to all those people who joined in so enthusiastically – we hope you all enjoyed it!

We sold 490 entry forms this year – which brought in approximately £950 (after minimal expenses) all of which will go towards environmental improvements in the village. The winner of the People’s Choice Award this year was Postman Pat (№ 19), with Sponge Bob Square Pants and Mr Spoon of Button Moon coming close second and third. We are thinking about a theme for next year, so if you’ve got any good ideas please put them on our facebook page @imagegresfordandmarford and we’ll consider them all.

Support of the Gresford community Dear neighbours, I would like to thank all of my neighbours and the community for gathering around and supporting us over the criminal damage caused to our front garden in the early hours of 7th September. One very kind couple gave us Garden Centre Vouchers for the replacement of the destroyed flower beds and garden equipment. This act of kindness was so very touching and restores our faith and belief that the greater community enjoys the flowers and our gardening efforts. Thankyou very, very much, greatly appreciated!

Local CCTV showed three young men roaming the Pant Olwen/ Pant Lane area at 3.05am, returning 40 minutes later to finish off their destruction. The Police are investigating and looking for information and other CCTV footage, so if you can help then please talk to them. The pride in our village and our neighbourhood is restored by the support and kindness shown by you all. Thankyou Gresford village. We will restock and re-plant for the Autumn/ Winter Season.

Smoked Mackerel Dauphinoise INGREDIENTS

SERVES 4

750 ml double cream 750 ml milk 8 large peeled potatoes (King Edwards/Maris Piper) 3-4 crushed garlic cloves Approximately 4 smoked pepper Mackerel fillets (skinoff) 100g Gruyère cheese (or cheddar) Salad or vegetable of your choice For extra mustard sauce Reserve 400-500ml of the cream mix (see below) 3 tbsps of whole grain mustard 1-2 tsp honey (optional - but it brings out the mustard flavour)

METHOD 1.

Preheat oven to 160ºc. Slice the potatoes thinly, approximately 3-4mm.

Keep potatoes in water to prevent oxidation (browning).

2. Cook the potatoes in lightly salted water for five to ten minutes until a knife goes in easily, then drain.

3. Heat both the milk and cream together in a large pan with the crushed garlic and season (but under season - the mackerel will be salted or peppered already!) bring to the boil then simmer for a few mins. Remove from the heat.

4. Line a roasting tray with grease proof paper allowing an overlap on the sides.

5. Add a layer of potatoes to fill the base, (similar to a lasagne). Flake the smoked mackerel fillets over the sliced potatoes allowing for two layers of the mackerel mix, repeat with another middle and top layer of the potatoes.

6. Pour just under half the garlic cream mix over the potatoes allowing enough to cover the potatoes. We cover with greaseproof on the top followed by tin foil. Oven bake for 30 minutes. To brown for a final ten minutes, turn the oven up to 190ºc.

Prepare your choice of salad or vegetables.

For the last five minutes remove the foil and grease proof paper and sprinkle with cheese, return to the oven to caramelise.

9. To make the mustard sauce - add the mustard to the remaining garlic cream, add honey (if using). If the mixture is too thick thin with a tablespoon of water or wine. To thicken the sauce just reduce for two minutes more.

You are looking for a sauce that coats a spoon.

10. Spoon over a served portion of dauphinoise allowing your guests to see the caramelised cheese. Extra sauce can be served at the table.

11. Serve with vegetable or salad of choice and glass of dry white wine.

12. Any left-over sauce and mackerel fillets can be made into a chowder with cooked vegetables/potatoes, warmed up with some stock and sweetcorn.

By Jenny Dutton The sun shone on our Celebration Event on 7th September and there was some great and varied music, thanks to local talent which included groups; The Dinosaurs, Little Big band and world-renowned Jazz trio Esmond Selwyn, Liam Byrne and Greg Robely. Local duos were Jess and Maddy, Emma and Tanya and father and son as Take Two. Not least, Catherine Nicholls who performed solo. It’s extraordinary how much talent we have in the village!

The Mayor, Rob Walsh opened the event and Ian Lucas MP with his wife Norah, also visited. Ian said of our milestone 70th birthday, “I hope everyone is very proud of all that has been achieved. It was certainly my privilege to have helped in a small way to keep the Trust going in the late ‘80s.” He was the secretary back then!

Gresford playgroup celebrated its 50th anniversary. Activities for children included the Pant Yr Ochain miniature railway, Punch and Judy and Alpha 55 target practice.

Local groups raised funds through a variety of stalls and we had superb catering provision and bar. Delmar World provided first prize for the raffle of a week’s accommodation in its Florida villa. We are grateful for generous sponsorship and the

The Trust had some issues with damage to perimeter fences and with dog excrement on marked pitches but are most appreciative of the support from recreational users of the grounds in monitoring problems. As I write this, not only are the days closing in, but also the temperature is dropping more than I would like. However, don’t let that stop you getting out. Just be prepared by following some simple steps: • Buddy Up - Making the time to meet up with a friend once a week to exercise is a great way to boost your motivation.

Getting out and getting active, whether it’s a run, bike ride or a walk with a friend or a group will give you the extra determination to make you turn up and count that one off the list.

• Warm Up Inside - Before you head out of the door, move around inside to get the blood flowing and gradually raise your heart rate. This will help your body to feel ready for exercise and make working out easier. Run on the spot or walk up and down your stairs to warm-up your muscles. Just a small amount of time can have a big impact on reducing the chance of injury.

• Get Out of Those Wet Clothes! - Damp clothing increases heat loss. Immediately after your workout, remove sweaty clothes and get into a hot shower or, if you’re not ready for a shower yet, at least put on some dry clothes to get the heat back in your body. This can be easy enough to forget as you may already feel warm.

• Don't Forget to Drink - Even when it’s cold, you still lose water through sweating, so it’s important to stay hydrated throughout the colder months.

Keep your fluids up by always having

water to hand when you exercise, as we can all easily forget this one vital point and become dehydrated.

One crucial area to pay attention to is visibility when you are outside (especially after dark). If you are out running or walking then it is important to make yourself as visible as possible. I myself have been running without any form of visibility or lights in the past and, luckily, I had no issues, but once I did have a close call. Since then, I have always had the essentials of reflective clothing and bright lights when I’m out running or on my bike.

For anyone interested, I will be running Marford Hill every Wednesday at 6.00pm, you can join me at your own pace, be that running, walking or crawling! My plan is to do it three times or more on the day, so feel free to come and tackle the hill with me.

Local Birds & Wildlife

By Rev. Hugh Linn On 5th September instead of being woken by the cheerful twittering of House Martins in their nest under our eaves we were greeted by an eerie silence. The lodgers had left - an early sign that Autumn has arrived. The previous day there were four adults feeding the nestlings. House Martins (like Long-tailed Tits) are gregarious little birds which often socialise in extended family units. By joining together in groups they benefit from the company of others as they face the hazards of their long migration to Africa.

At this time of year as birds prepare to cope with winter many species benefit from forming flocks.

Large numbers of Starlings can be seen assembling in Gresford village's trees where they will soon be joined by migrants from Europe.

In Burton Rooks and Jackdaws have been collecting in noisy flocks prior to settling down for the night in a communal roost.

Lapwing

On September 6th there were more than 150 Lapwings in Borras Quarry along with an even larger flock of Greylag and Canada Geese. The following day the Lapwings had moved on but the resident geese were still present with the unusual Cormorant addition of a small white Ross's Goose. This bird is almost certainly an escapee from a wildfowl collection rather than a genuine migrant from Canada which has been recorded at various sites around North Wales, including Gresford Flash, during the last ten years.

As summer visitors move out they are replaced by migrants from further North. Redwings and Fieldfares from Scandinavia can be found feeding on hawthorn and rowan berries and there is always the possibility that they may be joined by Waxwings. Last year was a good Waxwing year. Large numbers were recorded in and around North Wales with many birds turning up in supermarket car parks. One of the largest Waxwing flocks in recent years was found in the Wrexham Maelor Hospital car park.

The River Alyn's resident Grey Wagtails, Dippers and Kingfishers were joined on 9th September by a Cormorant. It will be interesting to see whether it will stay or move on elsewhere.

Plastic Pollution

By EssentialsMAG environment contributor ROB RENOUF Plastic is a lightweight, versatile material that can be put to many good uses, but plastic pollution has become a huge issue.

From an environmental perspective, the primary problems with plastic are the sheer amounts being produced and the inappropriate ways in which we’re using it.

• Almost all plastic has been produced since 1950, but the rate of production has increased massively, with over half produced since 2004.

• Only 9% of the plastic ever made has been recycled.

• Over 40% of plastic produced is packaging.

• We generate about 300 million tonnes of plastic waste each year – almost the weight of the planet’s entire human population!

Single-use plastics such as packaging are a particular concern, as they have an extremely short useful life, yet can remain in the environment for hundreds of years.

Recycling has an important role to play, and I wouldn’t want to discourage anyone from doing it. However, putting our plastic in the recycling bin doesn’t guarantee that it will be recycled. Reducing the amount of plastic we buy and throw away is the most surefire way of minimising plastic pollution.

If like me you’re concerned about plastic packaging, one of the easiest things you can do is tell the shops. You can do this in person or online, and

some supermarkets even offer incentives for providing online feedback.

Plastic Free Wrexham is a group set up to try and tackle the issue of plastic pollution locally. They’re currently seeking the support of local people and businesses in working towards plastic free accreditation for Wrexham. A similar campaign by Plastic Free Llangollen resulted in their town being awarded Plastic Free Community status by Surfers Against Sewage in 2018.

Plastic Free Wrexham are hoping to hold a mass unwrap at a local supermarket in the coming months. These events are done with the agreement of the store and anyone can take part. Customers who wish to participate simply remove any plastic packaging they consider unnecessary from their shopping as they leave the shop. The packaging is collected up by volunteers and returned to the store at the end of the day to be recycled where possible. Mass unwraps are a way of highlighting the issue of excess packaging and showing the stores that many customers don’t actually want it.

How many times have you recently heard the word ‘uncertainty’ I wonder? Apparently we are ‘living in uncertain times’ and ‘all the uncertainty out there’ is the big problem.

Well for sure the last few months have been extraordinary for the country as a whole (and there’s still more to come) and Brexit as a topic appears far from finished - but my question is; don’t we always live with uncertainty?

Of course the answer is - yes. None of us can predict the future, so we are in the truest sense of the word ‘uncertain’. The real issue is how you cope with uncertainty. Are you tolerant of it, do you really embrace it and seek advantage, or does it make you a nervous wreck and stressed?

It’s fair to say that my day job does not involve me buying products from overseas nor do I have to sell widgets abroad either. That is tough right now we know. My day job focuses on helping our clients perhaps ‘see through’ some of the myth, some of the uncertainty if you like - and keep right on track with their plans.

A longstanding client of mine a few weeks ago corrected me when I commented that the country and the Investment markets in particular have had over three years to get used to the idea of the UK leaving the EU. My belief was that three years is normally enough time to think about most things - and perhaps remove some of the uncertainty. My client simply pointed out that it’s over four years this topic has been around now - given that

whilst the vote was in June 2016 the start of the process was a year earlier. I thought it was time to have a look at just what’s happened in that time.

Interestingly a look back over the last few years (and we can do that with ‘certainty’) shows that 2016 was an exceptionally strong year for investors. If you ‘missed’ that one it was costly. The calendar year of 2017 was strong, whilst 2018 was doing well until the autumn when US/China trade issues in part caused most markets to show a loss over the year.

Coming right up to date, if you had only just tracked the FTSE100 or FTSE Allshare indexes this year - you would have seen gains since the beginning of January of over +9%. Of course markets will rise and fall but those who have stayed invested have once again been well rewarded.

Lastly I can’t help recall and contrast the uncertainty leading up to New Year 2000 (was that really almost 20 years ago?) and the much feared ‘Millennium Bug’ and where we are today with Brexit. The clocks were going to stop, your computer was going to implode, planes were going to be grounded - I could go on. What happened? Not a thing.

I will continue to make my calls and develop my plans based on facts. You are welcome to come and talk to us if you wish to as well.

Douglas the Dog - Out of Retirement!

Hi Folks, yes, it is really me! I have come out of retirement for one last grand tour of the literary elite, it is in celebration of my 16th birthday on October 3rd. Himself was showing me a chart that indicated that a doggy 16 equalled 80 in human years for small dogs, well small in stature at least.

When I asked him why the chart stopped at 16 there was silence, well enough of that.

Regular readers from a few years ago have asked me, from time to time, when I might be putting paw to keyboard again, it would be impolite to refuse them. Clearly space does not allow me to recall all my most recent activities, but as you will gather trips

to the caravan feature quite often. I was of course due to make a guest appearance at the Rossett Show but unfortunately the very warm weather proved too much for me. My veterinary consultant has advised me to avoid extreme heat and as a consequence of my age supplies me with a couple of daily pills.

Needless to say, I hear Himself bemoaning, ‘yet another 70 quid’ but of course, He deducts it from my pension.

Of late, there have been applications for large scale housing developments on parks and green spaces throughout Wrexham such as Llay, Gresford, Rhosnesni, Maesydre (9 Acre Field) and Rossett. Although the developments in Llay are well underway with the usual delays and ‘unforeseen circumstances’ causing major disruptions for residents; the Vicarage Lane Action Group successfully influenced the decision to refuse planning permission to a development in Gresford.

Unfortunately, if a planning refusal is overturned by the Inspectorate in Cardiff, only huge amounts of money and escalated legal action can make any impact at this stage. This course of action is out of reach for most community groups. Some community councils oversaw the production of Community Place Plans, which enabled communities to identify the future development they would like to see for their neighbourhoods. Place Plans were

then submitted to the local authority for consideration in their LDPs. By doing this, the wishes and needs of the community could be reflected.

The popularity of communities mobilising themselves into protest groups is growing.

I recently met with a group of residents who will soon form the Dean Road 'Playing Field' Action Group, which aims to stop the development on their playing field. The effectiveness of residents and community councils working in unison is more likely to make Wrexham County Borough Council listen and act upon the voice of local people. Whilst the majority of people welcome development in our town, it should not be at the expense of local residents and for the capital gain of developers. A balance needs to be struck.

There are many associations, such as 'Planning Aid Wales' or 'Fields in Trust', able to help residents take control over how their neighbourhoods evolve, and I am always happy to lend my support to local groups. He won’t even consider counselling and is adamant that he wants a divorce. I am devastated. I just don’t know what will happen. He is a Director of several of his own very successful companies. We live in a house worth over £1,000,000. All of the savings are in his name, as are all of the bank accounts. I’ve never had anything in my name. How will I cope with three young children to care for?

ANSWER: This is one of the worst situations to find yourself in and whilst the emotions are high, unfortunately you are going to have to address the issue of your finances first. You should contact a Specialist Family Law Solicitor immediately.

Time is of the essence here, in order to protect your financial situation. Your husband has had six months to plan on moving away, in which case, I would be a little suspicious as to why. There could be several reasons, and I apologise if this alarms you, but the first could be that his businesses are in trouble and he is facing liquidation of his companies and maybe even his own personal bankruptcy. The second reason may be that he has salted money away to reduce your claim towards him. He could have created other subsidiary companies that you are unaware of. He may have put money into other people’s names. This is why you need a Specialist Solicitor.

The first thing that a Solicitor would do, is to write to him or his Solicitors, asking for disclosure of his income and assets along with any liabilities. He would be expected to produce bank statements for the last 12 months of his business, together with personal ones and some may be in the name of a nominee or jointly with another.

In addition, his Company Accounts will be inspected to ascertain if there is a movement of monies into different accounts that might not even be linked to the business. If there are, then an explanation and undertaking not to dispose of the same, would be required from him and if he failed to give such, then an application to the Court to restrain him would be taken.

If it seems his businesses are failing, and if they are Limited Companies, it could mean liquidation. However, as he is an employee of the company, it doesn’t automatically make him bankrupt unless he has given personal guarantees to the bank and cannot meet such. Then the house would be at risk.

All avenues need exploring because you are in a very difficult situation and you stand to lose unless action is taken immediately. I’m only too sorry to hear of your predicament and hopefully given time, matters will improve.

Gresford Village Bowling Club News Gresford Village Bowling Club, wearing polo shirts kindly sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care Gresford, have had a most successful 2019 season.

The Saturday ‘A’ Team are currently a creditable 4th in the Premier Division of the Wrexham and District RBF Bowling League, and the ‘B’ Team are similarly placed in Division 2.

The ‘B’ Team Pairs side finished runners-up in the Wrexham Pairs League, and the team in the Malpas League ended their season in 4th place.

In addition, all three teams in the Wrexham Veterans League reached the Divisional Knockout Finals which was played off in the rain in August.

Whilst the ‘A’ Team were defeated, both the ‘B’ and ‘C’ Teams won.

In the Veterans League, the ‘A’ Team with one game to play have already secured top spot and promotion into Division 2. The ‘B’ Team was narrowly beaten into 3rd place in Division 4 and the ‘C’ Team finished as Champions in Division 5.

Darland Community Theatre Cheshire Cats

Rehearsals are in full swing for our Autumn production ‘Cheshire Cats’ by local author Gail Young. Gail lives locally and this acclaimed comedy was premiered close to her Cheshire home, by Guilden Sutton Players in 2005.

Hugh Jones Councillor for Rossett Community support Last month I praised the work of the Festival and Horticultural Society members who delivered a stunning show for us.

These events do not happen without a huge amount of work.

It is vital, if the festival is to continue to be a success, that more volunteers from the community come forward to help. The same applies to the Village Hall which has been improved beyond all recognition and is about to have a new heating system, again run by a small group of dedicated volunteers who urgently need new members.

If you can help in any way, either by joining a committee or volunteering time this would be appreciated and enable these vital elements of village life to continue.

Chester Marathon The. Marathon takes place on October 9th, I have met with the organisers and expressed a number of concerns about access and marshalling and have been given re-assurance. I hope this is a successful event and that residents will be able to enjoy the spectacle through the village with the minimum of inconvenience.

Andrew Atkinson Councillor for Gresford LDP The Local Development Plan is currently at the examination in public stage with the inspector which means local representations can be made on individual sites. There was nothing included in the plan for Gresford at the point that it progressed to this stage.

Developers are seeking to try and get sites like Vicarage Lane included and this is being challenged. I’m grateful to two local residents for their assistance on this.

Gresford Mining Disaster Memorial Service The recent service commemorating the miners was particularly important this year as it marked 85 years since the terrible incident. All Saints School children performed a powerful and poignant play at the service at the wheel and did the community proud.

Plough Traffic Lights There have been problems with the lights lately that I’ve been asking the council to fix but it’s taking too long at the time of writing.

The good news is they are all being refurbished and I’ve had confirmation that the sequencing issues will be addressed and the crossing I’ve been working to get in place for some time will also be installed.

Gresford Road, Llay Residents are rightly furious about the constant delays and extensions to works on the Gresford Road. It’s severely impacting Gresford residents and extending daily journeys.

I’ve met with the Council leader, highways officers and Llay Councillors to see what pressure can be put on the developers to quicken this up. There will inevitability still be delays but I’m hoping it won’t be as bad as it could have been. I will continue to monitor the situation and do all I can.

As temperatures drop and it gets dark earlier, The RSPCA receive many calls about the welfare of pets and wildlife.

Check out their top tips to keeping animals safe and warm in autumn.

Keeping safe in the dark Always wear reflective clothing to make yourself visible when walking near roads in the dark. And don't forget your pets!

Fit your dog and cat with a reflective collar - but make sure only a quick release collar is used for a cat.

Watch out! Animals on the roads The RSPCA see more injured wild animals coming into their care, who have been involved in road traffic accidents, as the nights grow longer.

Road traffic accidents involving deer are especially common during the rut, which can occur from mid-July to December (depending on the species).

Take note of warning signs, drive with extreme caution (especially early morning and evening) and report collisions with deer to the police.

Fireworks and bonfires during the festive season Build bonfires as close to time of lighting as possible, and check them thoroughly for animals before lighting, this can help save the lives of hedgehogs and other small animals. Loud fireworks can be terrifying for animals.

Bat alert!

Bats look for suitable hibernation sites around October. Pipistrelles are the most likely to roost in buildings during winter.

Bats and their roosts are protected by law in the UK - so you must not disturb or harm them in any way.
