From IMAGE We are very pleased to say that we have received another grant from “Keep Wales Tidy” and have used it to plant yet more trees in the village. An additional eight trees have been planted, mostly along Pant Lane, with others near the entrance to Maes Y Pant at the end of Whiteway Drive. We have also been able to replace three trees which either failed or were damaged from the last planting. We really need people in the community to keep an eye on these new trees and tell us if they notice any damage or if any of the trees appear to be struggling due to lack of water, etc. during the coming months. Also, if anyone would be happy to make a commitment to watering a tree near them during the summer, do please contact us.

We had a successful Clean for the Queen Tidy-Up Sunday on 6th March with the Brownies joining forces with us. They collected four big bags of litter from the Marford play area and around Marford Community Centre and seem to have enjoyed the experience! The rest of us tackled the clearing of weeds from the main shopping area in the centre of the village and along part of the main road. A group also tackled weeding and general tidying up around the lake. We collected about fourteen bin-bags of ‘green’ waste in just two hours! Tidy-Up Sundays will continue throughout the year; we meet on the first Sunday of every month at 10.30 outside Serendipity (the Old Post Office). Please come and join us if you have an hour or so to spare. We would be delighted to see you!

Commonwealth Flag The Commonwealth Flag will once again be flown in Wrexham to mark Commonwealth Day on 14 March. It will be one of over 850 Flags to be raised in locations throughout the Commonwealth. The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Barbara Roxburgh, said:

"Commonwealth Day reminds us of the diversity and cooperation that exists between countries. In Wrexham we have a very diverse culture and we are proud to be flying the flag to celebrate the values the Commonwealth upholds and the opportunities offered for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth young and old around the world." This year's theme is an ‘Inclusive Commonwealth’. This offers possibilities for building on work undertaken in 2015 when the theme was ‘A Young Commonwealth.’ The theme encourages understanding and further explorations of commonwealth collaboration in fields of gender equality.

‘An Inclusive Commonwealth’ refers to the values of tolerance, respect and understanding, as well as equity and fairness, set out in the Commonwealth Charter, and the richness of the Commonwealth as a family of nations in which each member state is valued equally and has an equal voice. In uncertain times, the need for the Commonwealth to act as an inclusive network for mutual support and development is as great as ever. Commonwealth Flags will be flown at many locations of special significance including at

six locations on the Island of the Republic of Malta; in Tristan Da Cunha, the most remote of the United Kingdom Overseas Territory; in St. David's in Pembrokeshire, the westernmost city in Wales; in Carlisle in Cumbria, the northernmost city in England; in Lowestoft in Suffolk, the easternmost town in England; in Unst in the Shetland Islands, the most northerly inhabited island in Scotland; at the Rothera Research Station on the Antarctic Peninsula; at the Halley VI Research Station on the Brunt Ice Shelf; and at King Edward Point and on Bird Island in South Georgia. The list of local Flag raising ceremonies and imaginative locations continues to grow. The event is organized in association with The Royal Commonwealth Society.

Text Magic of Aston- Martin The I am very pleased to hear that there is going to be a London Motor Show this year. No, not the bustling 10 day Olympia or Earls Court shows we all loved, but a three day affair from the sixth to the eighth of May. It will be held at the Evolution Centre at Battersea Park, London, and you can test drive cars of your choice and purchase them at the show. I’m proud to say that one of the cars exhibited there will be the hydrogenpowered city car made by Riversimple in mid-Wales. The event will be all ticket so contact: www.thelondonmoorshow.co.uk. Meanwhile, the recent Geneva Motor Show lived up to its usual high standard with the new Bugatti Chiron (named after the famous French racing driver who drove Bugattis in the ‘30s.) even more powerful than the Veyron, having an eight litre quad turbo W16 engine that produces no less than 1479bhp which can rocket the Chiron to 62mph in under 2.5 seconds and on to an amazing 261mph. It will cost £1.9M, and only 500 of them will be made, so get your £200,000 deposit down as soon as possible, as many others have done so already. As you would expect, the new AstonMartin DB11 was also one of the main attractions, but the news that the Company’s new DBX S.U.V. will be built in a new Aston-Martin factory on the old R.A.F. station at St. Athan in South Wales is really good news. There are many who would have loved to have it on a site on the Wrexham Trading Estate instead of

the new prison! The new TVR factory at Ebbw Vale is also good news.There is something simply magic about the Aston-Martin name. I’m sure many of you used to see the green Aston-Martin DB2/4 with registration number JW 7 driven for many years around the area. It was the proud possession of Mr. Jack Wilkinson who owned a motorcycle garage in Brook Street, Wrexham, which is still run by his son, Paul. Jack ‘Wilkie’ was a brilliant motorcycle rider who was unbeatable in the grass track events in North Wales, but he also loved cars, and competed in the Monte Carlo Rally. His wife drove the Aston for many years after his death. The other Aston I remember was the controversial wedge shaped Aston designed by William Towns in the mid -’70s. It had a troubled beginning, refusing to start at the British Press launch at nearby Woburn Abbey, due to its hi-tech (for the times) electronics. It didn’t put off Henrietta Tiarks, Duchess of Bedford, however, who bought the first one, or Mr. Jimmie McAlpine of Gerwyn Hall either, it would appear, because he bought the second one.

Views Sought on Proposed Changes

Dog Control in Public Spaces Significant changes to dog control across Wrexham, including keeping dogs on their leads while walking on pavements, are currently being considered in a Council consultation. Wrexham Council are considering introducing a Public Space Protection Order with regards to dog control across the County Borough. Currently the Council has three existing ‘dog control orders’ which are in place across the County Borough and specific areas – such as sports pitches and children’s play area. These orders are: • The Fouling of Land by Dogs • A Dogs Exclusion • A Dogs on Lead by Direction

However Wrexham Council plans to change its three existing dog control orders – covering regulation on fouling, exclusion and dogs under control by direction – with a single ‘Public Spaces Protection Order’ which will cover the entire County Borough.

The proposal would be to continue with exclusion zones for dogs on bowling greens, marked sports pitches and play areas (apart from owners with assisted dogs). A more ‘controversial’ proposal is also included in the consultation, which would cover dog control in the parks and dogs on leads along the highway. However the main areas which are focused on in the consultation are

parks, sports pitches, play areas and public highways/footways.

Given the nature of the proposed changes, Wrexham Council wants to hear from residents, visitors and dog owners alike to find out their views on the proposed changes. The six question consultation is quick to fill out and asks participants about dog exclusion zones and when dog owners should keep their pets on their leads. There is also the chance to comment on if you think dogs should be excluded from more or less places in Wrexham.

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport, said: “We know that the vast majority of owners and dog walkers are sensible and know when it is safe to let their pets off a lead, however, a minority of pet owners cannot be relied upon to keep their animals under control and this does cause some concern to other users of the public open space. We want to hear the public’s views on how dogs may be controlled in the parks and on the highway, in particular.” The consultation will run until 26th June, giving you a good few months to respond and voice your opinions about the plans. Never mind the weather! It’s time to shake off the winter blues and get out in the fresh air. We’d be pleased to see you at Maes y Pant, the woodlands on your doorstep.

We have some activities to encourage you out. On Saturday 9th April, we have some horse logging from 9am and continuing all day. A number of pines by the pond are being taken down and we have hired Ecological Land Management (ELM) to use two working horses to pull the fallen trunks from there to an area near the main entrance. ELM is a conservation and wildlife protection company based in Llay who did a great job for us when they built our pond. It will be fantastic to see these working horses in action. Please come and see them! We have some indoor events comping up: A reminder that we have our 3rd annual Friends’ meeting on Monday 11 April, to be held at Church House, Gresford at 7.30pm. This is an opportunity to join the Friends and hear about future plans as well as giving us your ideas about what you think we should be doing which will benefit the community. We also have our 3rd annual coffee morning and plant sale on Saturday 21 May, again to be held at Church House, Gresford but at 10am running through to 12.30pm. This last is our main fund-raising event of the year.

Building Plot on Corner of High Street Many residents have asked me for help in getting the eye-sore sight on the corner of the High Street sorted out. Over a year ago I discussed with Councillors about the Planning Enforcement powers that Wrexham County Borough Council has at its disposable and encouraged them to pursue this route. I'm glad that this has happened and I've had meetings with the Council Leader to discuss this and I'm meeting with their Planning Enforcement Officers along with the Leader next week to address this and make sure that all necessary action will continue to be taken. Steps are being taken by the Council to address this after a notice was served and they have other routes that can be considered including a compulsory purchase order if necessary, the site is currently being cleared but the situation is far from resolved and I will continue to pursue this and work with all interested parties to sort this out. Spring Coffee Morning Lavister Friends of Nightingale House Hospice held a Spring Coffee Morning in Pulford Village Hall on Saturday 19th March. A grand total of ÂŁ1,000 was raised by a loyal group of supporters. We would like to thank all who came on that morning. We hope to hold another event in the Autumn... From Gresford Sailing Club

As the wintering geese fly north, the old wooden hut on the far side of The Flash near the Pant yr Ochain has started to come to life. Gresford Sailing Club is gearing up for the 2016 sailing season.

Over the winter, a team of five GSC Junior sailors has been training as part of the RYA Cymru’s North Wales RS Feva Squad. They have been gaining experience sailing and racing on the Menai Straits, Pwlhelli Bay, Lyn Brenig and Balla in conditions from sublime to awful. Club racing has started again on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons, with social sailing on Tuesday evenings. The Model Boat section is active on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons RYA Push the Boat Out week and the Reg Gibbs Open Day Sunday 15th May

Throughout RYA Push the Boat Out Week 9-15 May, we welcome new friends coming to try sailing. Watch this space or our website for more details. The week culminates in the Reg Gibbs Open Day. Reg Gibbs was a founder

member who helped Arthur Jones set up our club 56 years ago. He was passionate about encouraging people to sail. Our unique tribute to Reg is an Open Meeting which aims to encourage junior Feva sailors, and new adult sailors to enjoy their first Open meeting. Sharing family Wealth in your Lifetime It is becoming increasingly clear that there is a generational wealth gap in the UK. Members of the so-called baby boom generation, born in the two decades after the Second World War, have benefited greatly, quite unlike those who came before and after them. They enjoyed the rapid growth which followed the war, with good, pensionable career opportunities; affordable (and later soaring) house prices and rising financial markets.

Earlier generations did not enjoy these advantages on the same scale. Yet as they live longer, they face the prospect of costly long-term care. Those now aged roughly between 20 and 35 also face a very different economic reality, characterised by stagnant economic and income growth, student debt, youth unemployment and spiralling house prices. The consequences of these demographic shifts are being experienced in families across the UK, as the elderly and the young require financial help in the present, not the future. As a result, the approach to financial planning may also need to adapt. There are many reasons why you would want to support your children, a deposit on a house being the obvious one. But this might require you to sell assets, perhaps creating a tax liability or at a difficult period

in the market. One solution could be a mortgage against the security of your investments rather than your property. This is an option that a number of our clients have been able to use recently which allows them to access capital without having to sell investments. Many of us worry about our own parents, who may not have great wealth, but may increasingly need to be cared for. This raises a host of issues. Should they move in with you? How could residential care be funded? Can they avoid selling their home to pay for care? They may, on the other hand, have a substantial estate. In that case, have they minimised their Inheritance Tax liability and, if not, how do you help them to do so? Intergenerational Wealth Management will be a growing concept going forward as it is unlikely that the pressure on the younger and the older generation will get any easier. Local Birds & Wildlife The well travelled 12 year old Mediterranean Gull last seen locally on Gresford Flash in December has recently been rediscovered at Blakemere in Cheshire.

The bird's identity is certain as it was fitted with a white leg ring numbered 32J9 in Brussels when it was in its third year. Since then it has been sighted around Europe in locations as far apart as Portugal, France, Holland and Spain as well as here in the United Kingdom. Last summer it spent some time in Shropshire's Wood Lane nature reserve and, prior to being relocated in Gresford, it paid a brief visit to Liverpool. As it is not the only Mediterranean Gull present at Blakemere there is a possibility it might find a mate and breed. Over the years Gresford Flash has produced a number of unusual gulls. The first Caspian Gull ever to be recorded in Wales was found there in December 2014. Another first for the Flash, a Kittiwake, was identified recently by Kevin Smith. Unfortunately the bird only dropped in for a quick wash and then moved on so I missed it but some consolation was provided by a pair of photogenic Grest Crested Grebes performing their elegant courtship ritual.

Grey Wagtails and Dippers are displaying by Rossett weir. They may not be great singers but April, as Chaucer noted long ago, is the time when “smale foweles maken melodye.” This month the dawn chorus is at its best and in most rural areas there is still a fair chance of hearing up to 20 different species in song. Blackbirds, Robins and Thrushes may be the most familiar although the Song Thrush is now much in decline. Sadly two once distinctive rural songsters, Yellowhammers and Skylarks, can no longer be guaranteed. Twenty years ago a walk around Rossett's lanes would almost certainly have been accompanied by Skylarks singing overhead and from the hedgerows bursts of Yellowhammer song traditionally put into words as “a little-bit-of-bread-and-nocheese” but now, like the unmistakeable call of the Cuckoo, for most of us these are but cherished memories.

Funding for Arts Hub The Arts Council of Wales has approved £2.3 million of funding to develop an Arts Hub in Wrexham town centre's People's Market. Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: "This is excellent news and I am delighted that the Arts Council of Wales has recognised the potential of, and its support for, this project. The investment of £1.5m by Wrexham Council in the future of the Arts Hub and Peoples Market has attracted a further £3m in funding.” “We will now work together with our partners in art and culture, together with market traders, to develop an Arts Hub and integral Market that will serve to attract visitors to Wrexham and across the region." Cllr Neil Rogers, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: "I am very pleased that this grant has been awarded which will signal the start of over £4.5 million of investment in the market and the town centre itself. It is an innovative scheme and one which see the regeneration of the People's Market for use as a dual purpose facility for the benefit of the traders and the arts in Wrexham. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Arts Council for their generous support and all the staff who have worked tirelessly to reach this stage of the process."

Kath Davies, Director of Investment and Funding Services with Arts Council of Wales, said: “This project provides an exciting opportunity to create an innovative hub for creative activity that will inspire and nurture the ambition of communities across Wrexham and the wider area. This is an unique opportunity for the arts community and market traders to work alongside each other to develop a vibrant space which will play a key part in the regeneration of the town centre.” Council Leader, Cllr Mark Pritchard, said: “I am delighted we have been granted this money and hope this is one of many partnership opportunities to regenerate Wrexham town centre.” Once completed, which is expected to be in early 2018, the new facility will be two tiers. Works are expected to start on site in January 2017 following the production of final designs and a tender process to appoint a building contractor. Whilst works are ongoing the People's Market will be open for business as usual.

The total cost of the redevelopment of the People's market building is in the region of £.5 million. In addition to the Arts Council of Wales Grant £700,000 funding has been made available from the Welsh Government's Vibrant and Viable Places Programme and £1.5 million from Wrexham Council.

Gresford Trust Recreational Newsdesk with Phil Jones BBC Radio 4 recently held a live broadcast from our very own Gresford Methodist Church. The Church has recently been refurbished and was an excellent venue for this live event. It took place during the period of Lent and also included hymns sung by one of the most successful Welsh choirs, 'The Sirenian Singers.’ The service itself was led by the Reverend Richard Sharples and Dr. Stephen Wigley. There were also readings by church members Alex Roberts, Beryl Blackmore and Karen Rose. This was a fantastic occasion congratulations to all of those involved! Students of Ady Jones Tae Kwon-Do Schools who operate out of the Gresford Trust Hall have gained over 50 medals from tournaments during the first quarter of 2016. Representatives have competed in the Welsh closed Championships, The North Wales Interclub Championships and The English Open Championships, with many students claiming multiple medals at each event. Chief instructor Ady Jones said “I’m hugely proud of our students achievements. Hugh Jones Local Development Plan 2 It was good to see a packed Village Hall for the public meeting to discuss the draft LDP 2. There appeared to be unanimous opposition to any development on the former Golf Course site and on the land between Harwoods Lane and Rossett Road. A well argued rebuff to these proposals is being submitted to the Planning Officers. In addition, I have challenged the validity of the consultation on the former Golf Course as the land was designated brownfield, when, in truth, it is SSSI and Green Barrier agricultural land. I will continue to oppose these proposals and keep you updated.

I have received many complaints regarding the condition this road surface is being left in by agricultural vehicles. We all appreciate the important role farmers play, however leaving the road surface in a dangerous condition is not good neighbourliness and I have asked our streetscene supervisor to make contact with those responsible.

The Community Council are asking Wrexham CBC to look at creating a 20mph speed limit on the narrow section of the lane, this follows the recent traffic survey. Additionally there is a request from some residents for additional lighting which is being explored by the Community Council.

Darland High School

I have regularly raised this issue and there will be a campaign aimed at stopping this practice. I appreciate that many people park on pavements with the good intention of keeping the highway clear, however, if a pedestrian cannot get through then an offence is being committed.

I have had a very fruitful meeting with Peter Agnew the Head of Darland High School in which we discussed a number of issues of concern to residents. This includes pupil behaviour on buses and at bus stops, littering and involvement of the school in the local community. Following the meeting we will hopefully see a number of initiatives to tackle these issues.

Owing to an excellent award of almost £1m from the current Welsh Government, Wrexham CBC are replacing the lights on our main arterial routes with LED lights. Following my talks with the engineer, this now includes the B5445 through Gresford. They will use the present columns to maximise the number of lights and work is planned for later this year. They are more efficient in terms of lighting, economical to run and reduce our carbon footprint.

Dog news

As an ex-dog owner and occasional dog walker, I welcome the compulsory chipping brought in by the Welsh Government and urge all owners to contact their vet by April 6th if they haven’t already done so. This leads to more effective identification of stray or lost dogs and should hopefully reduce cruelty and abandonment. I will also be monitoring the effect of the new council regime of enforcement through the company Kingdom to see if offences reduce and the real culprits are prosecuted.

Thank goodness it’s April, and we can finally get back out into our gardens!

I find I feel so much better when I can spend some time communing with nature while working outside. April is a busy month for growing, and a good time to sow or turf new lawns. Over the years we have reduced the size of our lawns considerably, but they are curved, and need quite a lot of attention to keep them tidy. Yesterday my edging shears finally gave up the ghost ,in spite of valiant efforts from my son, so next week I will have to invest in a new pair. On reflection I have had them for quite some time and probably should have sorted that last year.

I shall be venturing into the greenhouse too, now is the time to sow hardy annuals and herbs, I do use a lot of fresh herbs in my cooking and last years plants have finished. It is a good time for pruning as well, and by the time you read this I will have been to our Pruning talk, and had some useful instructions on how to do this correctly. Our April talk will be about Composting, this will help to make use of all the material left over from the pruning! Our secretary Bob Bates has surpassed himself with the planning of these subjects, so well done to him. I am going to plant some more strawberry plants in the next few days, I grow these in large containers against the garage wall, this shelters them very well. On warm days the wall retains the warmth of the sun which really helps with the growth. We are very fond of soft fruit and have our raspberry canes grown this way as well. The Budget 2016 The Chancellor has now delivered his much anticipated budget, only the second by an all conservative government in two decades. This was the third budget within 12 months and threatened to be the most difficult because of the constraints imposed by the June EU referendum and disappointing economic numbers. Nevertheless the Chancellor managed to produce several surprises, including net tax cuts in 2017/18 and 2018/19 before reaching his goal of a budget surplus in 2019/20.

The most interesting announcement was the introduction of a new Lifetime ISA for the under 40’s, starting in April 2017/18 which we will discuss nearer the time, and an increase in the main ISA limit to £20,000 at the same time. The Lifetime ISA sounds very similar to a pension ISA which has been discussed previously and may be the start of a more significant change to all pensions in the future. In the meantime the most significant changes are highlighted below, some of which were previously announced:

• The income tax personal allowance increases to £11,000, with the starting rate for 40% and 45% taxpayers staying the same as the current levels. • A new savings allowance of £1,000 for basic rate taxpayers and £500 for higher rate tax payers. This will mean that interest up to this amount will be tax free and with interest rates at current levels will allow about £75,000 to £80,000 being

tax free. In addition from April interest will be paid interest with no tax deducted. Many people may think that this will not affect them but anyone with a good final salary pension scheme, such as teachers, NHS workers and civil servants may well be affected. There is a window to protect your higher allowance starting on the 5th April but the timeframe is short and if you are affected by this change you should contact us for advice.

St. Peter’s Primary School, Rossett

Children in Reception Class have enjoyed the book ‘The Crocodile under the Bed’ by Judith Kerr and lots of their colourful work is on display in their classroom.

On March 1st we celebrated St David’s Day with our annual School Eisteddfod. This year’s theme for our art and writing was ‘Belonging’. Jessica Hulbert was the Foundation Phase ‘creative writing’ winner who was ‘chaired’ in a traditional ceremony whilst the KS2 winner was Zara Mc Donald.

The Value of Exercise Competition time

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner. This means we can finally enjoy some favourable weather and exercise outdoors. So to encourage you to get active outdoors I am running a competition to win 4 personal trainer sessions with me. Just email me at pchris696@gmail.com with your reasons for applying, if you'd like to send in a photo or film of you following the current exercise too. I hope you all had a go with last month's exercise routine. For April you can follow my routine below or make your own up. Try and encourage your family and friends to do it with you. This is a great all-body workout whether you are beginner, intimidate or advanced trainer.

Warm up

A warm up should be built up gradually over the course of about 10 minutes. However, if you need more than this then take longer. Aim to have a slight sweat-on and heart rate raise up to 40% of your heart rate max by the time you reach your warm up target of 10 minutes. This is a guide as everybody is different when it comes to warming up the heart, joints, muscles. Example of warm up include walking on the spot, high knee raises, shoulder circles, air boxing, skipping, jogging on the spot, star jumps, half way squats, and half way lunges, forwards and backwards.

Main session

all body circuit • Press ups or half press up (on knees). Alternative - standing arm push outs or wall, bench press (arms level with chest) • Plank (leaning on forearms, or in press up position). Alternative - standing abdominal squeeze. • Squats. Alternative -

slight knee bend. • High knee jumps (forwards). Alternative - standing high knee raises. • Squat thrusts. Alternative - standing up forward jumps or toe taps. • Walking forward lunges alternate leg. Alternative step forward and back. • Shoulder circles forwards to shoulder height. • Sprints - up to 8 feet. Alternative - fast walk. • Tricep dip arms as close to sides as possible. Bent knees for beginner (using chair or bench). Alternative - close grip push against a stationary object. • Skipping with rope. Alternative air skipping (without rope) or star jumps.

Cool down

when performing exercise it is important to always warm up and always cool down. Try and cool down until your body has come down from a high to low intensity. This should be gradual about 5-10 minutes, more if needed. Perform 15 repetitions for all 10 exercises and perform them for a total time of 30 minutes. Record how many exercises you complete. If you complete the circuit then repeat the sequence again until 30 minutes are up. Rest periods should be kept to a minimum but beware of your own limitation. Recording your score will enable you to challenge yourself to perform more exercises next time. If the exercises are too easy then add weights to increase resistance. Weights can be weighted plates, resistance bands, bottles of water. If the exercises are too hard then use the alternative exercises provided. The total workout will take you about 45 minutes. Wrexham News

Freedom Leisure Wrexham Council has signed an agreement with Freedom Leisure to take over the management of four Leisure and Activity Centres and five dual use sports facilities across Wrexham. The agreement will be in place for ten years and Wrexham Council will retain some managerial powers over pricing and price rises.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: "I am delighted that, whilst other local authorities are closing leisure facilities, we in Wrexham have planned and successfully transferred leisure services to a not for profit company which has ensured their sustainability for the future. I would like to thank everyone involved in the process for all their hard work in achieving this outcome." Jeremy Rowe, Head of Operations, Wales and West, said: "We are delighted to have secured this contract in Wrexham and feel all the sites have great potential as they each have a loyal and active customer base with whom we will enjoy working. As with all our new contracts, we will have an initial period of consultation with our new colleagues and members and will encourage comment and feedback from them to ensure our plans can be tailored to suit the needs of the local communities in Wrexham. We will bring in additional staff to support those already in place to help them implement any changes and manage a smooth transition for all concerned."

Freedom Leisure will ensure the activity timetable including the Welsh Government Free Swim Initiative for over 60’s and Under16’s, the Armed forces veterans scheme, the National Exercise Referral Scheme, Lifestyle programmes and Cardiac Rehabilitation remain in place.

The Centres at Waterworld, Chirk, Gwyn Evans and Queensway will benefit from £3 million of refurbishment. Visitors to Waterworld will see improved reception and café area, a larger gym and refurbished toilets and changing areas. Chirk Leisure and Activity Centre will benefit from a new larger gym whilst the existing gym is converted into a studio. There will also be investment in energy saving measures to reduce the carbon footprint of all the buildings.

It will be business as usual at all the centres and the only change that will be noticeable to visitors is that of signage and branding. The Facilities that will be managed by Freedom are:
