It took him 19 minutes to swim one kilometer, through waters that averaged roughly two degrees Celsius. Had the water not been salty, it would have already been frozen. And Pugh, 48, risked dangerous hypothermia during his endeavor. Without training, it’s possible to sustain serious injury or worse by swimming through these waters. This dramatic feat of endurance isn’t just a test of Pugh’s physical strength. As a United Nations Patron of the Oceans, Pugh devotes his life to calling attention to issues facing the world’s oceans. His swim comes as the U.K. government plans to review protections for the 193,000 square miles of water the South Sandwich Islands. Currently,

Resident Spotlight Trotting for a Cause: 5th Annual Turkey Trot supports The Forza Stefano Foundation. For the second year in a row, Pembroke Falls in cooperation with sponsors, The Moscoso Real Estate Group and Orange Fitness, have had the honor of supporting Forza Stefano at the Pembroke Falls Turkey Trot. “It’s been incredible to be able to support an organization like Forza Stefano at The Turkey Trot,” said Pilar Moscoso. “The event was initially created 5 years ago with the intention of bringing support to a worthy cause. Due to one of our family to do this now, and help bring attention and support to this incredible organization, is the culmination of a long-time desire.” When it comes to walking the walk, Forza Stefano has proven to be a powerhouse. Vito Dioguardi and Tamara Roth, along with their family, created the organization after their teenaged son, Stefano, lost a battle to a rare form of childhood cancer. Forza Stefano supports teens facing severe medical challenges. been like. Andrea Moscoso: Tamara Roth: Amazing! It has been a year of learning and working hard to see our mission become a reality. But it has big donation that we gave was a Christmas wish list, the recipient was a teen receiving treatment at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Her name was Tamara. Needless to say, that was a very special moment. We felt guided and connected to our beloved Stefano, who is really the one that started this foundation. We are also so thankful to all of those who had
AM: What has been Forza Stefano’s biggest accomplishment and biggest challenge? TR: working and loving attorneys that we are blessed to have as directors of the foundation. The biggest challenge is to AM: This has to be an emotional process for you. How has your experience been so far? TR: Without a doubt it has been emotional but it also has served us to heal. When you help others in need, you heal yourself. Once you are a mother of one child you are the mother of all the children. You feel the same pain and the same love. Our experience has been beautiful seeing how many people loved and remembered Stefano. They are now helping others through him. Very moving experience. AM: What are the goals you have for Forza Stefano for the future? Where do you see the foundation in 5 years from now? TR: We see ourselves to continue to help teens and their families but at a larger scale. Also, we want to create a Forza Stefano Home, where teens and their parents can stay during treatment or while recovering from surgery. This will be a beautiful place full of fun areas and comfortable rooms for those who don’t have a place to stay maybe because they come from out of the country or state. AM: TR: It comes from Stefano and from all those hospitals full of teens and children receiving cancer treatment. It’s a world not known to all, but once you get to know it, you can’t go back to not trying to do something to help, even if it’s just a little bit.
