DID YOU KNOW In 1878, the first telephone book made contained only 50 names. It was nothing but a sheet of cardboard with the names of both private people and businesses who had a telephone.

The first train in America was the “ATLANTIC” locomotive, which was built at York, Pennsylvania, in 1832, by Phineas Davis. Ox teams were used to convey the engine to Baltimore. It made a successful first trip between Baltimore and Ellicott’s Mills (Maryland), a distance of thirteen miles. The “Atlantic” was in service for sixty years, and is still capable of running under its own steam.

The first James Bond movie was called 'Dr. No'. Here are all the actors who played James Bond in the movies.

Sean Connery was the first actor to play the MI6 agent on the big screen. He first appeared in Dr No, which became an instant success and led to more Ian Fleming novels from the series being adapted. He went on to star in From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball and You Only Live Twice, before a brief break. Sean returned to star in Diamonds Are Forever in 1971 and then again for Never Say Never Again in 1983. George Lazenby only played Bond once. George played Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Paper money was first used in China. The first known banknote was first developed in China during the Tang and Song dynasties, starting in the 7th century. Its roots were in merchant receipts of deposit during the Tang dynasty (618– 907), as merchants and wholesalers desired to avoid the heavy bulk of copper coinage in large commercial transactions.

Roger Moore is the longest running James Bond, having spent 12 years making seven films in the famous franchise. He took over from Sean Connery in 1972 and made his debut in Live And Let Die and retired from the role in 1985. He starred in Moonraker, A View to a Kill, The Man With The Golden Gun, Octopussy, For Your Eyes Only and The Spy Who Loved me. Timothy Dalton took over from Roger Moore. The actor appeared in The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill.

Pierce Brosnan appeared in Golden Eye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. Daniel Craig became the sixth actor to win the role of James Bond in 2005. The actor's debut was in Casino Royale. He has appeared in Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.

So what do you enjoy the most about performing? The ability to influence people, change their moods, change how they are feeling, make them feel better, more positive. You have so much professional singing experience already: do you have any advice for younger people just starting out? Well, I still have a lot to learn myself—but-what I would tell them is to do it for yourself. You have to put your heart and soul into making music. But if you do what is in your heart, it will register, people will find it.

We were happy to hear Camie Liz achieved another milestone in winning the National LiveMe / I Heart Radio / Music House Original Song live-stream contest with an original song titled "Maybe". (It is available for download on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play Music.) Her winning song and renditions of many other great songs can be enjoyed on YouTube. Interview with Camie Liz (CL) and contributing editor Patrick Mason (PM) PM CL

You have worked to make your voice a really powerful instrument. What were some of your early influences? I am an old heart. Growing up I loved listening to Prince, Carole King and Michael Jackson.

PM CL

How would you describe your own style? You could say it is kind of a cross, a blend between Amy Winehouse and Demi Lovato.

PM

You have done really well getting your music online and a great library on YouTube. Do you have a lot of followers on social media?

TECH STUFF THIS FLEXIBLE “POINT-ANYWHERE” WEBCAM ALLOWS YOU TO HAVE MORE DYNAMIC ZOOM VIDEO CALLS

Want to video call in landscape mode? How about portrait mode? Maybe you want to have your camera face something beside you, or in front of you? How about turning your camera off when you don’t need it? With a laptop webcam, you’re sort of limited to just a handful of options… but plug the Kano Webcam in and you’ve suddenly got yourself a camera that’s as versatile as your needs. Mounted on a flexible gooseneck, this camera can be pointed or faced anywhere you want. The bendable neck allows you to position it at angles for fun video-takes, or even focus it on yourself and then on a whiteboard for interactive online Zoom-classes… but here’s where the Kano Webcam gets even more interesting. Mounted right above the camera sensor is a slider that allows you to switch between standard camera mode, and a Macro-camera mode that’s perfect for taking close-up shots of objects. Moreover, the slider can even be positioned mid-way to completely obscure the camera’s vision, acting as a privacy slider. Pretty neat huh? Oh, there’s also a flash built into the Kano Webcam to help you either give you better face-lighting or to take well-lit macro shots. Designed primarily for use in interactive classrooms, or as a learning tool for children, the Kano Webcam even comes with its own software studio that allows kids to learn more about photography, lighting, lenses, colors, and much more! -Designer: Kano

THIS MOBILE SOFT-LIGHT GIVES A PROFESSIONAL UPGRADE TO YOUR SMARTPHONE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS

Charlie Payne and Tyran Lechner)

You don’t need a huge ring light with a stand or an expensive studio lighting set up to get the perfect shot. Designed by Australian film professionals, BIGSOFTI provides high-quality lighting anywhere, on any device. It is a mobile, high quality, bi-colour LED soft panel that delivers stunning diffused lighting for better photos, videos, and video calls across all your devices. It fits devices both with or without cases thanks to the bowed flex of the universal clip and the over-molded rubber edges that give additional grip without any scratches. The accessories are easy to swap in and out with a simple sliding mechanism, no screws or tools involved. BIGSOFTI (like the name suggests) is a soft light that mimics the one used by cinematographers for professional shots. Soft light is preferred when shooting beauty shots of people because it evens out skin tone and diffuses any hard shadows, making bumps and creases disappear. - Designers: Al Morrow & VERT Design (Andrew Simpson, All information above is from yankodesign.com

THIS & THAT TENNIS EVENTS & INTERNATIONAL DINNER ALTERNATIVES The Falls Club Championships and other events are on hold until it is safe to play as normal. The International Dinner and Dance Committee, a non-tennis event for the whole community, decided (via zoom) that although the Dinner had to be cancelled, it was important to do something to benefit the community. After brainstorming, it was decided that this year the committee’s goals would be: 1) Creating a recipe book of all the home-country dishes, with a photo collage of families enjoying their traditional meal at home, and 2) Building a free resident, business-to-business register, with emphasis on restaurants, catering and chefs being hurt by the pandemic. (This will be on a password-protected webpage to prevent abuse.) If you would like to be involved, contribute a recipe or have your business listed, please email us at: customsportsservices@gmail.com The deadline to get your information in is November 15th.
