TECH STUFF HERE’S WHAT THE MICE AND KEYBOARDS OF THE FUTURE SHOULD BE SCARED OF!

The Kosmos is a desktop controller. Designed for designed for 3D artists, industrial designers, engineers, video producers, and architects, it unleashes what the mouse is capable of. For years we’ve seen software upgrades to make life easier… the Kosmos is a hardware design upgrade. It puts everything you need right under your hand, featuring a joystick-esque controller with a scroll wheel. It even packs a touchscreen on the top for intuitive control, giving you precision and power-usage in just one half of the mouse, because the other half is all about productivity. The left-half of the Kosmos is a dynamic display, divided into four quadrants. These quadrants are almost like a dashboard in their own right, giving you tools and shortcuts you need right under your fingertips… and the touchscreen display itself feels intuitive, and allows you to work without even looking at your monitor. All the control and information you need lies right under your hand, be it a shape-shifting keyboard/display, or a joystick/mouse that gives you incredible precision over cursor movements, making work a breeze.

A SMART TRACKER! If you’re even half as unorganized as me, you

too will relate to the heart-stopping moment of realization when you can’t find an item of your belongings on your person; whilst the majority of the time they will be in a hidden pocket you didn’t know about, or even more frustratingly, in the exact place you left them… there are other times when we need a little bit of assistance. This quirky smart tracker is here to lend a hand in the location of lost our lost items; the blocky and characterful device has been designed to work with an array of products, from your keys to your back-pack, so you can have all areas covered! It uses mobile and bluetooth connectivity to locate the lost items and reunite them with their forgetful owner!

The E-Pad packs a pretty remarkable

Ultra-HD e-ink display, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage that collectively should blow your Kindle out of the water. With its stylus, sketching on the E-Pad is remarkably similar to doodling on paper, and the absence of perceivable pixels gives you crisp strokes of your pencil, as well as of text, when you’re reading a book, newspaper, or magazine. Finally, conquering the final frontier of tablet design, the E-Pad packs a SIM card slot, giving it 4G connectivity, making it better than A. the Kindle, B. the run-of-the-mill Android Tablet, and C. pen and paper. The EPad delivers on the promise of making the tablet useful in the way it intended to be. The tablet promised to be a device for productivity and just ended up becoming a larger version of your phone that didn’t see much use apart from gaming and mediaviewing. The E-Pad, on the other hand, does what tablets (or at least some of them) should have done a long time ago.

Tennis Anyone? Tennis Social Club is Happening!

Celebrating the tennis families of Pembroke Falls!

To increase participation a Pembroke Falls Tennis Social Club is being formed. Willy and Evis Cartegena are coordinating it. Look for recurring meetings once a month in the Rec Center board room in the next Newsletter. We need people to take on whatever they are interested in to create a calendar promoting on and off-court activities. People responding so far: Jumel Pluviose and Roberto Garcia Annual Charity Tournament. Miguel Salvia and Girts Kacens Sunday Morning Doubles Round Robin, Kevin and Betsy Fernandez Weeknight Mixed Doubles , Willy Cartegena Fast Four Doubles, Evis Cartegena Women’s Events and Leagues and Lamont Pittman Weekday Morning Group

Annual Club Singles Championships Expanded

Previously we ran a one-day Club Singles Championship and not everyone could make it. This year we are going to a more inclusive round-robin format using Flexible scheduling so more people can play. You will be able to play matches weeknights or weekends. We will again have two levels: below 4.0 and 4.0 and above, and players can self-select which level they want to enter. Sign ups will be through September with matches beginning October. If we can get at least 5 entries we can have separate Women’s and Juniors Events as well. Tournament results will update Coach Pat’s online Gamefinder list so you can contact other players to hit with at the same levels. https://www.customsports.biz/customsports_tennis_gamefinder.html The new password to the list is “ SliceServe”. You can register with Coach Pat or Anita in person, by text or email.

Pembroke Falls’ Wimbledon Connection

Congratulations to our neighbor and resident Tennis Fitness Trainer Jeff Drock, of Cascades Classics! Jeff is the fitness trainer to teen sensation Coco Gauff who won 3 matches in the Wimbledon qualifying tournament to win a spot in the main draw. She took victories over Venus Williams (one of her idols) as well as 2 seasoned pros. Only eventual winner Simona Halep stopped this 14 year old’s dream Wimbledon in the Round of 16. Kudos to Jeff for building the foundation of Coco’s amazing success at Wimbledon!

Children’s Recreational Tennis Programs

It is amazing to be a part of the growth and development of the young people. When Pembroke Falls children participate in tennis, they learn racquet skills, develop physically and mentally, and learn to work and make an effort. They learn the rules of the game and how to behave with respect to others. It is a joy to see friendships, teamwork, cooperation & self-discipline gradually evolve. Tennis, the game of a lifetime, takes root early and makes young athletes take ownership of their actions, accept victory and defeat graciously, and work individually or as part of a team. Great lessons for life!

Congrats to mini season participants Jimena, Eliana & Kate!

DID YOU KNOW SURPRISING ORIGINS OF POPULAR SAYINGS

"Let the cat out of the bag." Meaning to reveal a secret, "letting the cat out of the bag" finds its roots in 18th-century street fraud. Suckling pigs were often sold in bags and a popular scheme was to replace the pig with a cat and sell it to an unwitting victim.

"Rule of thumb." The "rule of thumb" as a form of rough measurement probably comes from carpenters approximating inches with their thumbs. Another theory is that farmers used the length of a thumb to estimate how deep to plant seeds.

"Once in a blue moon." A blue moon is the second full moon in a single calendar month, and it's rare. The phrase "once in a blue moon" is used colloquially to mean something that doesn't happen very often.

"Don't count your chickens before they're hatched."

"White Elephant." Albino elephants were highly regarded in Southeast Asia, and they were cared for lavishly. The term "white elephant" eventually evolved to mean any valuable but burdensome possession of which its owner cannot dispose and whose cost of upkeep is out of proportion to its usefulness or worth.

Aesop said it. He wrote of a young milkmaid balancing a pail on her head. The girl thought, The milk in this pail will provide me with cream, which I will make into butter, which I will sell in the market, and buy a dozen eggs, which will hatch into chickens, which will lay more eggs, and soon I shall have a large poultry yard. I'll sell some of the fowls, buy myself a handsome new gown, and go to the fair, and when the young fellows try to make love to me, I'll toss my head and pass them by. At that moment, the girl tossed her head and lost the pail of milk. Her mother admonished, "Do not count your chickens before they are hatched."
