HOW TO TIDY UP YOUR HOME GARAGE
I
f you're like most people, your garage is probably the messiest place in your home. Tidying up your home garage can seem like an insurmountable task to many. But by following these eight steps, you will easily transform your garage into an organized and functional storage space: Step 1 | Evaluate your space | Take the time to assess the size of your garage and the amount of storage space available. Think about how you use your garage and how you would like to use it in the future. This assessment will help you determine how many items your garage can accommodate. Also, to see things more clearly, take the time to clean and clear the floor of anything that shouldn't be
there by consolidating it in one place or elsewhere in the house. Step 2 | Sort your items | Sort through all the items you store in your garage and decide what can be thrown away, donated, or sold using the three-pile technique. Items that are no longer useful to you can be donated or sold. Items that cannot be donated or sold should be thrown away. And finally, the items you want to keep are the ones you will store in your garage. If you don't know what to do with some items, consider selling them at a garage sale or donating them to a charity.
« YOU'LL BE ASSURED OF A CLEAN, TIDY AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, PRACTICAL HOME GARAGE. » Step 3 | Categorize your items | It's important to group items in the same category together: gardening items, sporting goods, household items, tools, etc. This will make it easier to store them and make your life easier later. Step 4 | Take inventory of your garage's storage space | Now that you've sorted and categorized your items, it's time to assess the storage space you have available in your garage. Take a good look at your walls, ceiling, and floor. Think about how and where you want to organize your items. Do you have enough shelves, cabinets, hooks, storage bins, etc.? Be sure to organize your items so that they are easily accessible so that you can find them easily when the time comes. Step 5 | Clean up your garage | Use this step to clean up your garage and repair any damage. Also take the opportunity to upgrade the lighting, heating, electrical and water outlets. Once you've cleaned up, give the walls and
ceiling a good coat of paint, as it probably needs it, to give your garage a cleaner, brighter look. Step 6 | Install your storage | Now it's time to install your shelves, cabinets, hooks, storage bins, etc. Be sure to follow the assembly instructions for all these items to ensure that they are properly assembled and secured and won't fall off when loaded. The larger and heavier the items, the more adequate storage space you need. Smaller, lighter items can be accommodated with storage bins that stack on top of each other. Use hooks and racks provided to organize your gardening tools, bicycles, and other sporting goods on the wall. Step 7 | Label your items | Once you have all your items neatly stored in your garage, it's handy to label them to help you quickly find what you need and easily store it later. Use labels or permanent markers to identify the contents of each bin or box. Step 8 | Maintain your garage on a regular basis | Once you've finished the storage in your garage, it's important to maintain it on a regular basis to keep your organization up to par. Put back right away the items you just used, get rid of the items you no longer need and keep your garage clean and tidy.

HOME GARAGE STORAGE OPTIONS
T
he garage is an important space in a home. It can easily become cluttered if care is not taken to properly store the items in it. On the other hand, clutter can be avoided. There are several home garage storage options, each with its own advantages, to help you maximize the available space and maintain an organized environment. Here are some of the most popular options: Option 1 | Shelves | Metal, wood or plastic shelves are a popular choice for garage storage. They are economical and easy to install and can store many different light to medium weight items. They can be mounted on the wall or placed
directly on the floor. They are modular, so you can adjust them to fit the items, bins, boxes, tools, etc. you want to store. Option 2 | Cabinets | Melamine, polymer or steel cabinets are a more expensive option than shelving but offer a more aesthetically pleasing solution for storing items in a garage. Doors and drawers hide the items stored inside and adjustable shelves accommodate items of different sizes. Doors and drawers can also be locked for added security.
« YOU WILL MAXIMIZE YOUR SPACE AND MAINTAIN A CLEAN, ORGANIZED ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL THE ITEMS YOU STORE IN YOUR GARAGE. » Option 3 | Overhead Storage Racks | Overhead storage racks, made of steel, are ideal for storing seasonal items such as Christmas decorations or camping equipment, as well as anything that can be contained in plastic storage bins that stack on top of each other and label themselves for easy identification of their contents. They also free up floor space in your garage, making it even easier to park your vehicles. Option 4 | Wall Hanging Panels | PVC notched panels are anchored directly into your wall studs and allow you to use a variety of hooks, brackets, baskets, and shelves to organize your gardening tools, long-handled tools, stepladders, bicycles, and other sporting equipment. This system is fully modular and infinitely interchangeable, allowing you to customize your wall organization endlessly. In conclusion, there are many options for storage in a residential garage. HOW TO GET RID OF UNNEEDED ITEMS
K
eeping a home garage neat and tidy can be a challenge, especially if you have accumulated many unnecessary items over the years. It can be a daunting and even discouraging exercise. Here are some suggested steps to help you sort through and get rid of the unwanted items in your garage: Step 1 | Schedule a full day to clean out your garage | Mark a date on your calendar and make sure you have enough time to do it. Ask family members, or friends, to help if needed. Step 2 | Empty your garage | Take all the items out of your garage and put them in a clear area, such as your driveway.

Step 4 | Sort all items by category | For example, group all gardening items together, all sports equipment, and so on. Step 5 | Use the 3-pile technique | Create a pile for items you want to sell or donate, a pile for items you want to throw away, and finally a pile for items you want to keep. HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST FLOORING FOR YOUR HOME GARAGE
C
hoosing the best type of flooring for your home garage depends on several factors such as your intended use, your budget, and your aesthetic preferences. Here are a few of the most popular options to consider (or not): Option 1 | Painted concrete | Although an economical option, painting your garage floor with concrete paint is a bad solution. This type of paint cannot withstand the weight of your vehicles and the heat of the tires in winter and summer and will eventually delaminate and chip the paint. This is the
worst solution if you want to park your vehicles in your garage. Option 2 | Tinted concrete | Tinted concrete consists in adding natural or synthetic pigments directly into the concrete mix. It is the whole concrete that will be tinted, in all its thickness, during the pouring of your floor. Note that the concrete will be tinted in the mass to give a pastel color, light, which will lighten up when drying. It is impossible to obtain an intense coloring with this technique. In addition, large quantities of pigment are often needed when you must dye dozens of cubic meters. Do not use this technique unless you plan it very early in the construction of your concrete slab.
« COATING YOUR GARAGE FLOOR INVOLVES CONSIDERATIONS RELATED TO ITS CONTEXT OF USE AND A MINIMUM OF SAFETY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. » Option 3 | Polished concrete | Polished concrete is an expensive and inappropriate option for a residential garage. Although it offers a smooth, shiny, easy to clean, very durable and stain and scratch resistant surface, polished concrete is extremely slippery in the presence of water and snow making its surface extremely dangerous and accident prone. Do not use it. Option 4 | Porcelain Tile | Porcelain tile is an expensive but certainly an excellent option in a residential garage. Although the choice of tile is more limited, the result is a floor covering that is aesthetically pleasing, stain resistant and easy to clean. However, this option should be considered for double garages at a minimum. The slopes found in a garage
can complicate the installation of these tiles. Always use a professional tile setter for best results. Option 5 | PVC Tile | PVC tile is a modular, affordable, easy to install option available in a variety of colors. Stain resistant and durable, it requires though partial removal for spring cleaning. For the discerning do-it-yourselfer. Option 6 | Vinyl Carpeting | Although affordable, easy to install and stain resistant, vinyl carpeting should not be used in a residential garage. Under no circumstances should you consider gluing them to your concrete floor to prevent them from moving. Their future removal could be very expensive. Do not use it. Option 7 | Epoxy Coating | Epoxy is a two-component chemical coating that is catalyzed on site during installation. Available in a variety of finishes with colored flakes, epoxy is tough and durable and is applied directly to the concrete floor following mechanical preparation and provides a nonslip surface with colored flakes embedded between the base and clear topcoat. However, the clear topcoat does not offer adequate UV resistance and may tend to yellow over time. Always use a professional to install this coating. Option 8 | Polyaspartic coating | Polyaspartic, or polyurea, is a two-component chemical coating that is catalyzed on site during installation. Available in a variety of finishes with colored flakes, polyaspartic is resistant and durable. It is applied directly to concrete following mechanical preparation and provides a non-slip surface with colored flakes embedded between the base coat and the clear topcoat. Its clear topcoat offers excellent UV resistance and will not yellow over time. Always hire a professional to install this coating. In summary, the choice of coating for your residential garage floor must be made with discernment.

THE INSTALLATION OF A POLYASPARTIC GARAGE FLOORING
P
olyaspartic garage flooring is a popular option today for homeowners who are looking to improve the appearance, maintenance, and functionality of their garage floor by eliminating the cement dust associated with this type of flooring. There are many specialized companies offering this service. It is important to do proper research to identify the right supplier considering that there are many players in the market, and many are of questionable reputation. Here are the general steps that a responsible company should use to complete your garage floor coating:
Step 1 | Grinding of the surface | It is important to prepare the surface with a good grinding to ensure the good asperity of the surface. This first step will remove a thin layer of the surface, reveal cracks and other crevices that need to be repaired and ensure proper anchoring of the subfloor to prevent delamination and spalling of the coating. Step 2 | Repairing cracks or crevices | It is very important to repair any visible cracks or crevices before applying the sub-base. The use of a specialized patching mortar for this type of repair ensures that cracks and crevices dry quickly and fuse to the surface.
« DO A PROPER RESEARCH TO IDENTIFY THE RIGHT SUPPLIER CONSIDERING THAT THERE ARE MANY PLAYERS IN THE MARKET. » Step 3 | Sub-base coat | The application of the sub-base coat is the first step in a three-step coating. This thick layer is applied with a squeegee for uniform distribution over the entire surface. Step 4 | Color Flake Saturation | The second step is to sprinkle and saturate the entire surface with color flakes. It is at this stage that the aesthetic aspect of the coating takes shape according to the chosen finish. The applicator uses more flakes than necessary to ensure complete coverage. Excess flakes will be collected before the clear topcoat is applied. Step 5 | Clear Topcoat | Once the base coat is dry and the color flakes well anchored in its surface, the applicator proceeds with the third step and applies the clear topcoat respecting the profile created by the color flakes and
allowing the surface to be non-slip. This layer also seals the coating around the edges. It is important to follow the applicator's instructions and to refrain from walking on the surface for 24 hours after the work is completed. It is also recommended to wait an additional 48 hours before parking your vehicles on the surface to ensure that the sub-base coat is completely dry.
