We’re halfway there...

As we reach the halfway point of 2024, it’s hard to believe that only six months remain until 2025 (Christmas party planning pending!).

The first half of this year has been a whirlwind of activity, accomplishments, and heartfelt moments for us here at Espace.

In May we launched our very own podcast. ‘The Supply Chain Sessions : The Espace Global Freight Podcast’ is a step on from ‘Espace TV’ and allows us to dive deep into the intricacies of our field with Industry guests, by sharing insights and stories that matter to you.

Our digital transformation also took a big leap forward with the launch of our brand-new website. In line with this we’re now deep into configuring and training for our new Transport Management System (TMS) which is set to go live in September. This new system will bring us operational efficiencies, improved customerservice, and enhanced connectivity to benefit you, our valued customer.

Our team has grown too! With a bigger sales team now focusing on key strategic areas we’re now better positioned than ever to meet your needs and move forward together.

Despite the huge hike in container rates, the ongoing challenges in the red sea and a slower than usual global marketplace for the first part of this year, we are now noticing signs of increased activity and confidence amongst exporters / importers.

Yet amid these positive strides, we have experienced a profound loss. In May, we lost our charismatic Worldwide Development Manager Peter Allen. His absence is deeply felt across the company and our industry. Peter’s legacy and the impact he had on all of us will never be forgotten.

As we move forward, we carry Peter’s memory with us, drawing inspiration from his dedication and passion. In Pete’s words ‘It’s all there to be done’.

“My freight is safe in their hands I have used many hauliers / freight forwarders since 2003 and I would have to say that they are definitely my favourite freight company to deal with

Embracing a Summer of Sport at Espace HQ

As the summer sun shines bright (albeit for a few scattered days!), Espace HQ is buzzing with the excitement of sports and camaraderie. This year, our annual EO Day took on a vibrant twist with the Espace EO Olympics! Our team of co-owners came together for a day of friendly competition, engaging in fun team games that celebrated our spirit of unity and teamwork. From obstacle relay races to balloon blowing contests and end of year presentations, the day was filled with laughter, cheers, and the joy of coming together as one big employee-owned family.

As we revel in the memories of our EO Day, we can’t help but look forward to the upcoming global Olympics and we are excited to introduce our special promotion starting in July. Meet Erik the Espace Bear, our new, adorable recruit at Espace HQ! If you book five or more freight jobs per month with Espace, you will receive your very own Erik bear.

Erik has been on an extraordinary journey over the past few months, travelling the world with his fellow co-owners and exploring new places and continents. You can follow his travels on Instagram at @Erik_The_Espace_Bear. In line with our sustainability efforts we will be offsetting his carbon footprint at the end of the year. Don’t miss out on his adventures and see where he goes to next - maybe one of his little brothers or sisters will be travelling with you on your holiday this summer.

Here’s to a fantastic summer of sport and supply chain shenanigans!

As always, we’re here to help!

Connected

“I’m gonna get myself connected sang the Stereo MC’s on their 1992 hit.

We’ve been working over the last 18 months researching, costing, planning, integrating and configuring a new Transport Management System (TMS) aimed at streamlining our internal processes and improving the ways we connect with our loyal client and supplier base too.

You see, freight forwarding is essentially a people industry. Albeit (if I say so myself) people with an extraordinary amount of knowledge and skill which make the movement of goods all around the world look remarkably simple.

Remember the olden days when you started a relationship by meeting someone face to face first?

Technology has changed the world we live in almost unrecognisably over the 25 years of my career. The movement of data from fax (I never did experience tickertape) to email to transfer has happened so rapidly. And nowadays even a desk phone seems out of date as we organise virtual meetings with clients, carriers and suppliers half the world away via a free app on our mobiles.

And so we arrive at our ultimate conundrum - how do we introduce a TMS written for 2024 and beyond and yet keep our people and relationships at the centre of our business? The answer we feel, is to give our clients the choice to interact with us how they want. Soon you will be able to book freight and customs with us by email or via a portal - where you’ll also be able to follow the movement of your goods across the world, collect documents and download custom (and customs) reports. We still have paper in the fax machine too and check our post box daily if you wanted another couple of ways to connect with us.

(ContinuedonPage8)

Of course, we’ll still organise client visits and you’ll still be able to phone us and speak to one of our expert co-owners who will have more time to devote to the delivery of your Espace experience and the delivery of your precious cargo.

We’re going live with our TMS in September and will continue to develop our knowledge of it and our key relationships forever onwards.

Look out for more information in your inbox over the coming months. We’re looking forward to getting closer to you!
