Main Role for the Project : Central Building

This project is dedicated to creating vibrant and joyful living spaces for seniors, designed to enhance their well-being and foster a sense of community and happiness. Recognizing the importance of a positive living environment for the elderly, the aim is to design a space where seniors can feel rejuvenated, engaged and connected with their peers while embracing their inner childlike spirit. Connecting nature with colour as a strategy to creating a joyful and happy environment that is interconnected. Bringing back the sense of joy, happiness and fun within the living environment is the main strategy within our design.

Ultimately, this project envisions senior living spaces as more than just residences; they are envisioned as dynamic hubs of joy, happiness and interconnectedness while ensuring the childlike experience of life is still here.

As a team, we were able to turn a drab, monochromatic colour scheme into a lively, eye-catching design. We improved the overall ambiance and experience by adding a range of colours, making the area not only more visually appealing but also energetic and welcoming.

Through this initiative, an unused land is transformed into a lively, sensory-rich area. We stimulate the sense of smell by using fragrant flowers and herbs, while water features draw birds and fill the air with calming noises. The landscape’s varied textures offer a tactile, healing experience, and the vibrant flowers accentuate the aesthetic appeal, resulting in a vibrant and welcoming space that fosters wellbeing and a sense of connection to the natural world.

We created a dynamic spatial arrangement in our design by carefully separating the central and north buildings. We included vibrancy and give the people a sense of vitality. In addition to adding visual value, this component promotes a cozier and more

A mid-rise mixed-use building near Queen’s Quay and Merchant’s Wharf, offering lake views. With 10 stories, the first two are made of concrete and the remaining eight are from cross-laminated wood. The ground floor features rentable retail spaces, while the second-floor houses resident amenities.

Esma Cetinkaya - Jim Kwan - Umesh Chauhan

As a team our approach was to design this waterfront condominium blend with its environment while making it visually appeling for its visitors and residents. From balconies to main facade design, everything is a representation of water, life and movement.

The ground floor design focused on maximizing the retail area while providing easy resident access, in accordance with Ontario Building Code (OBC) requirements. The design aimed to optimize retail space utilization, ensure convenient pathways, and comply with safety regulations. In the interior we also kept wave pattern that we used for the main facade,on the walls and ceilings.

Our design approach for the assisted living unit was prioritized accessibility and convenience for the residents who require assistance. By locating the units in close proximity to the elevator, we ensured that people with mobility challenges could easily access their apartments without any obstacles. This consideration reflects our commitment to providing a professional and efficient living environment that serves to the unique needs of the residents, improving their overall quality of life.

PORCHE AUTOMATIVE DEALERSHIP

Porche Automative Dealership - Commercial Design Project Academic - 2023

Esma Cetinkaya - Umesh Chauhan

The design of this building not only focuses on integrating with the natural surroundings but also prioritizes sustainability. Recycled materials were incorporated into the construction, reducing the environmental impact and promoting responsible building practices.

The use of recycled materials, along with the organic and flowing design of the curving roof, creates a seamless and harmonious connection between the structure and the environment.

Incorporating recycled materials into our charging station design not only aligns with our sustainability goals but also creates a sleek and modern look. The use of glass and metal provides a visually appealing element that enhances the overall aesthetic of the space.

The project’s dedication to inclusive design is further reinforced with an outside ramp that guarantees accessibility for all users. This innovation blends in perfectly with the overall architectural design while improving use and mobility. Alao triple-glazed windows increase energy efficiency and reduce heat loss by improving insulating performance. They also help to improve acoustic performance, which reduces outside noise interference and makes the interior more comfortable.

U-FARM

City Harvest - Sustainable/Environmental Project Design Charrette Outcome - 2024

U-Farm is an innovative edible urban landscape that reimagines urban spaces by transforming underutilized city spaces into local food-growing hubs in the St. Lawrence Neighborhood. This initiative aims to provide local and affordable food access while reshaping the dynamic between people, food, and urban living.

Through the strategic deployment of networked high-tech food production modules, U-Farm will optimize the utilization of urban spaces for cultivating and providing access to fresh, locally grown produce to local communities while promoting a deeper understanding of sustainable food systems. By focusing on two distinct public areas—the extensive open patio as an Oasis and the street-level corridors designated as Sensory Gardens, U-Farm aims to create vibrant social hubs intertwined with food production.

THE OASIS SENSORY GARDEN

Our goal was to develop a holistic local urban food system that integrates environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles to enhance food security, community wellbeing, and economic empowerment within the St. Lawrence neighborhood.

The Pavilion Project aims to exhibit humanity’s most remarkable accomplishments to extraterrestrial beings, seeking to build mutual understanding and collaboration by showcasing our collective achievements

Humanity’s most significant achievement throughout history lies in the remarkable progress made in the field of communication and our civilizations have benefited from its growth over time. We have developed languages, exchanged ideas, and preserved important information through communicating successfully. The progress in the way we connect, and share has been crucial in creating our common human experience and helping us develop and understand each other. Through thoughtful design and architecture, the pavilion will showcase the progressed and advanced communication in Earth to introduce it to extraterrestrial beings.

The Amazon Rainforest, often referred to as the “lungs of the Earth,” is the world’s largest tropical rainforest. I chose this location for my project because I wanted somewhere mostly flat with dense forests and without people so I can represent my building without any distractions and my pavilion can be the only information source for the extraterrestrial beings.
