DAILY / WEEKLY SCHEDULE • • • • •
Arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your lesson (8:45 or 12:30) Be in class ready to teach at the start of the lesson (9:00 or 12:45) Each class has a 15-minute break around the half-way mark, depending on lesson flow Students arriving more than 15 minutes late should be asked to join the class after the break The first 15 minutes should not be seen as a soft-start, this is valuable learning time for students and can be used to personalise and engage students with emergent vocabulary using the students as a resource. After 15 minutes – the lesson should be well under way.

First part of lesson should allow for new students to join. Prepare an engaging communicative activity to make a welcoming introduction to students starting.
All new students should now be in class.
First week interviews – someone from the office will talk to new students to check how their first week is going. Please allow the students to pop out during this time.
If you have any tutorials pending, please complete them by Thursday.
Tests are taken in the first half of the lesson.
Start the course book lesson after the break.
Be vigilant – new students may find it difficult to adjust.
Attendance taken after the break (all other days within 15 minutes of class start)
Pay attention to levels and alert Academic Team of any students who may be at the wrong level.
Teachers meeting during test at 9:30.
After the break, the lesson should be off course book and focus on using London or the UK as a resource. Remind new students to complete First Week Impressions on Student Portal.

ACADEMIC ETHOS Challenge
Learner focus
Know your Impact
Learning that is too easy results in boredom, learning that is too hard leads to anxiety – by focussing on achievable learning gaps and providing scaffolding and guided assistance students can be challenged and achieve the small steps that lead to greater learning.
We understand that all students are unique, not only in their language skills, but they come to class with their own motivations, cultural backgrounds, and previous learning experiences. Learning at ES should be a positive experience and we provide the students with a safe environment to make mistakes and practise the language with their classmates.
A teacher is a change agent. At the end of any class, a teacher and student should be able to have seen evidence of learning – a testament to the teacher’s impact.
We believe all students are capable of more.
Our role is to help them get from where they are now, to where they need to be.
“My role, as teacher, is to evaluate the effect I have on my students.” Hatti.J (2012)
JUNIOR STUDENTS Students aged 16-17 can join our adult classes.
In the UK, any student under 18 is legally a child and they are under our Duty of Care. All teachers need English UK - Basic Safeguarding Training Any U18 student who is not in class after 15 minutes needs to be flagged to the office in the Whatsapp group.
