I am excited that you have joined us for our 2021 Debutante Ball! Our members are dedicated to serving the needs of the residents in St. Clair and Madison counties in Illinois as the first Greek-letter organization in the Metro East area.

For 52 years, the East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter has continued to embrace, train, and celebrate our young ladies as part of our Youth Development programming. We consider it a privilege to pour into these young ladies and be one of the first to celebrate them and wish them a successful future. We are also delighted to present this debutante court to society as they embark on their journey to dream big and explore life’s opportunities. In closing, with the deepest gratitude and appreciation, I acknowledge the phenomenal work of Adriann Adams-Gulley, Chairperson for our 2021 Debutante Ball, along with co-chairs, Dahlia Phillips and Twyla Winters-Jenkins and the entire 2021 Debutante Ball Committee. They answered the challenge to and this year’s debutante court and virtual platform are a testament to their dedication and success. I also thank you, parents for entrusting us with your most prized possession. Family, friends and Sorors, I thank you for supporting our efforts and the efforts of these extraordinary young ladies. Thank you for joining us as we celebrate the Rise of the Phoenix: Renewal, Hope, and Beauty.

Family members, friends, guests and sorors of East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, it is with tremendous pleasure that we welcome you to the first ever Virtual Debutante Ball:

Our Annual Debutante Ball, as presented by the members of East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter, is a magical rite of passage designed to showcase the great accomplishments of exceptional young women from the East St. Louis Metropolitan area. This year is exceptionally special as we rise from the ashes of 2020 and launch our first ever Virtual Debutante Ball. Over the years, we have spotlighted young women for their academic success and civic efforts, while offering the debutantes the opportunity to enhance their educational and social skills in order to prepare them for their next phases in life. As Enthusiastic, Strong, Loving and Ambitious women of Character, the members of ESLAC embrace and empower our Debutantes to believe they can achieve success and make their dreams become reality. Continuing our legacy, we have the distinct honor of presenting three beautiful, diverse and intelligent young women from various communities of the Metropolitan East St. Louis area. Together, we are humbled by your presence and appreciate your support. We extend a most earnest expression of gratitude to the 2021 Debutante Ball Court, their parents and the presenters for allowing us to witness and contribute to this momentous occasion in their lives. We sincerely thank our Chapter President, Pamela M. Weston for the opportunity to serve. Lastly, our heartfelt appreciation to the 2021 Debutante Ball Committee; their steadfast efforts, devotion, energy, creativity and support have been unmatched. Debutante Nariah Izola Parks CONGRATULATIONS AND LOVING WISHES DEBUTANTE NARIAH IZOLA PARKS Nariah is outstanding in all the categories outlined in Delta’s measurement of excellence. However, we will highlight only three areas. Academics Nariah is an outstanding student academically. Her GPA is 3.96 on a 4.0 scale –ranking as number 2 out of 66. She earned 54 A’s out of 56 semester grades and she is a member of the National H.S. Honor Society. Athletics Nariah earned an All-American Status at the AAU Jr. Olympics as part of the Relay Teams. She served as Team Captain for Cross County, Basketball and Track and Field Athlete at Althoff to win the first State Championship in twenty-seven years. Awards and Activities Nariah has received awards from the NAACP; East St. Louis Charles Lawson Scrapbook 2020-1st Place; Racial Harmony Award representing Belleville Althoff for 2021; just to name a few. Nariah served as a Big Sister in Big Brothers Big Sisters Program as a sophomore and as an elected member of the Student Council. She served as the elected Chief Executive Officer of the Belleville CEO Program (the First African American Female to hold this position) and has volunteered at JJK Center, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Program, Links Scholarship Program and is an active member of the Delta GEMS. Nariah is a part of the Usher’s Ministry at her church, Southern Mission M.B. Church.

It’s no coincidence that Ernice Kelly Thrash was born on the 4th of July. She entered this world with a force that shifted the cosmos! Ernice is an intelligent, caring, independent, creative and beautiful soul. She manages to be the light in a dim room no matter how bad the circumstances may be. We love to see her in action because she is a doer and a cheerful giver. It’s amazing to watch her as she enthusiastically helps her mother with caring for her grandmother and great aunt.
