THE FUTURE OF HEALTH CARE IS NOT ABOUT HELPING MORE SICK PEOPLE GET BETTER. IT IS ABOUT HAVING FEWER PEOPLE GETTING SICK. Right here, in our midst, many of our underserved neighbors continue to suffer at globally disproportionate rates. In Indianapolis alone, so many of our community members are facing a wide variety of health challenges, including disability, mental health issues, medical concerns and substance use disorder, resulting in reduced quality of life and dramatically decreasing life expectancy. Eskenazi Health is ready to move the needle on what drives our community’s health—not in a few years, but right now. Beyond Barriers is a $60 million philanthropic campaign, demonstrating Eskenazi Health’s commitment to generational change. Through breaking down the barriers to health care, Eskenazi Health is steadfast to improving life expectancy equity for all of Indianapolis. Success begins with the establishment of three initial Health Equity Zones. Health Equity Zones are defined areas where Eskenazi Health and community partners will work together to focus on building healthy neighborhoods by addressing long-term social determinants of health, with the goal of increasing the life expectancy of area residents.
