ARCHITECTURAL EXPLORATION FOR A FUTURISTIC

SOCIO-CULTURAL CENTRE FUSING TRADITION AND MODERNITY

ABOUT THE PROJECT

To build an identity for the sub-city of Dwarka through a Socio-Cultural Centre of national importance that brings together the residents through means of cultural entertainment, arts, music and festivals.

The Socio-Cultural Centre is based on the futuristic idea of immersing the viewer into the art and the psychological well-being associated with it and understanding how these art forms can be therapeutic and healing.

The site chosen is well-engrained with cultural and traditional sensitivity as it hosts several festivals throughout the year. The research drives the project to upkeep the condition of the site to retain its cultural significance as felt by the residents of Dwarka, hence the form of the building encourages the site to retain its embodiment.

The building in this scenario will become the backdrop for the activities, and the highlight will be the public plaza encouraging interaction between the visitors. It promotes a sense of community ownership and belonging by acknowledging the significance of user participation and engagement in influencing the built environment. Temporary nature and impermanence may be included within the design, enabling places to change throughout time in response to shifting demands and preferences. This could entail transient artwork, pop-up buildings, or seasonal programming that captures the essence of the site's and its users' constantly changing character.

The varied and ever-changing activities will determine the form of the site. To enclose these activities, the anti building must have equal flexibility. Thus, the prime motivation of the area is caused by the people and their activities, and the resultant form is continually dependent on them.

The architectural concept highlights the dynamic connection between human activity and architectural form. It implies that the site's architecture must be flexible and sensitive to the wide range of events occurring there. This method puts into question conventional ideas of static architectural forms and suggests an "anti-building" (or the landscape) idea that emphasizes adaptability and responsiveness. The design of the site will include creating spaces that are simple to move or adapt to the needs and activities of the users. This might encompass zoning plans that are flexible and enable spaces to be swiftly adjusted for various uses or occasions (during the festive seasons of Diwali, Dussehra, Navratri etc.), modular constructions, or movable partitions.

urban design.

Jayanagar 4th Block Market Bangalore

Jayanagar 4th Block Market was built in 1962 as a planned neighbourhood market. The neighbourhood originally consisted of a single, diversified community made up of residents who were at the time a part of the working class community, who came from different parts of the country and backgrounds. As a result, the market reflected this very character.

The neighbourhood has witnessed a significant loss of this identity, and the market has had a progressive decline in accessibility and a customer base that appreciates its value. In addition to recognising the economic forces at work in the current scenario, the project aims to restore value to the market.

Ideating a MIXED USE Building concept to equip the New BDA Complex with a combination of Retail + Office. This will bring the building to blend multiple uses into one, and the functions of which are integrated to some degree. Space organisation is a major part that will aid in the building efficacy. The building that was designed for retail will be redeemed, as well as the new MIXED USE concept as a proposal will sit with the surrounding built environment.

intervention.

- To retain the structural system of the complex building, and enhance the skin of it by introducing a facade that’s porous, and allows the building to breath.

- To enhance the consumer experience while shopping.

- To improve the vertical circulation in the building by proposing programs that will encourage the consumers to use the floors above.

- A better underground parking system complying to the norms for the cars today

- The retail of the building remains of high value, hence proposed program of the building is Retail + Commercial

concept.

This enterprise would encourage the women to come together as a community, where they would understand the brimming opportunities for entrepreneurship. It would bring forth a congenial visual experience where the women would feel comfortable working in. The site is in a perpetual mix with the surroundings- the nature, the buildings, the water tank. Incorporating such elements with the built environment would help enhance the spatial and sensorial response from the site.
